Your submission at Articles for creation: Alfred Siegfried (August 14)

[edit]
Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Epsilon.Prota was:
This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.
The comment the reviewer left was:
I'm sorry, but right now there aren't quite enough reliable sources for this to be a Wikipedia article. Also, as a heads-up unrelated to notability, the final quotation in Criticism and crime against humanity appears to be interrupted. I notice you've created a great number of articles - thank you very much for your work here!
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved.

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Qcne was:
This submission does not appear to be written in the formal tone expected of an encyclopedia article. Entries should be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources. Please rewrite your submission in a more encyclopedic format. Please make sure to avoid peacock terms that promote the subject.
The comment the reviewer left was:
Weirdly casual in tone?

Translating

[edit]

Hi,

You're probably aware of this already, but I'll say it anyway: when translating articles from other language versions of Wikipedia, you need to check that the sources are enough to satisfy the requirements of the English Wikipedia, which are stricter than in the other language versions (at least the ones that I'm familiar with).

You also need to check that the sources actually work. It happens often that an article was created, perhaps many years ago, citing sources which were fine at the time, but which have now expired. Sometimes it's just a case of finding the new location and updating the URL, but sometimes the content is no longer available, which obviously creates a problem in what comes to translating the section of the article that relies on that particular source. In the Draft:Hans Wilsdorf Foundation which I just declined, sources 1, 2, 4 and 5 didn't work.

Great work

[edit]

Just sent you a thanks for your great work translating the Scroll on the Comparative Merits of Sake and Rice page. It was really nicely done, and great to see Japanese articles translated which are not the normal pop culture topics, so thanks. If you would like to do more of them, or edit already existing pages, feel free to join WikiProject Japan - we always need more writers - especially since your prose was so clear.

BTW, you do know that as a reasonably experienced editor, you don’t need to go through the Articles For Creation process right? You can just create them directly, especially since the quality of your articles seems high.

This is an excellent and amazingly written article… however… there is a problem because pretty much all of the sources given are primary rather than secondary sources. That would be perfect for a researched academic article, but unfortunately Wikipedia articles require citations to independent secondary sources. News articles, or academic papers discussing the system would be perfect, if it’s possible to find some? Keep up the great work, and good luck 👍

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reasons left by Lijil were:
This submission does not appear to be written in the formal tone expected of an encyclopedia article. Please make sure to avoid peacock terms that promote the subject.
This submission is not adequately supported by reliable sources. Reliable sources are required so that information can be verified. If you need help with referencing, please see Referencing for beginners and Citing sources.
The comment the reviewer left was:
I see this is translated from French wikipedia (https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Développement_urbain_de_Lille). It doesn't really work well in the English Wikipedia because 1) It is very poorly sourced 2) It is not connected to existing English language articles 3) It is written more like an essay than a wikipedia article - for instance, English wikipedia requires that the first words in the article be the title of the article, so this article should start "Urban development in Lille is....". I can see there is a lot of material here though that might be useful. Can you add some of this to the article about Lille first? Then potentially agree with other editors of that article how to separate it into its own article if this makes the Lille article too long?
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved.

Your submission at Articles for creation: Pallavicini Collection (October 24)

[edit]
Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by ChrysGalley was:
Wikipedia is not a directory, and here there is a huge list, taken from Italian Wikipedia. See WP:NOTDIRECTORY. The article is notable, but it needs to have an encyclopedic tone and style.

It may be best to either delete that section altogether, or alternatively highlight some selected exhibits, particularly if that leads on to a standalone article on that specific exhibit.

Some work is also needed on the sourcing, since one reference is repeated about 10 times.
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved.

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by ChrysGalley was:
This submission provides insufficient context for those unfamiliar with the subject matter. Please see the guide to writing better articles for information on how to better format your submission.
The comment the reviewer left was:
Along with the previous reviewer, I have concern about the Criticism and crimes against humanity section. This is sourced and and is well worded, however it is a duplicate of material that exists already in the main article Kinder der Landstrasse. By putting a big section on this in the subject's biography there is now a linkage. It's not an unreasonable linkage but between the subject and "crimes against humanity" that specific linkage would need to be sourced - someone needs to directly accuse the subject of that crime. As far as I can tell this has not been done via a reliable source.

My suggestion is to leave the starting two paragraphs, where the linkage is modest / conservative; and for the last section reduce that to the first sentence and the last two sentences, with a "Further information" link to the main article on Landstrasse.

By all means let me know what you think about this.
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved.

The comment the reviewer left was:
Realistically it's not encyclopedic in the current format. Apart from all the red links which are unlikely to be fulfilled in English wiki, it's also very detailed, almost a directory, which will be difficult to keep up to date. All but one source are primary, mostly quotes from the legislative code, though given coverage in the regional French press it would not be difficult to come up with more independent sources. There are some substantial paragraphs with no sources. There is an article to be had here, but it needs some more editing. Perhaps to something much shorter and using more independent sources.

Just because you specify |some_param=some_variable does not always mean that variable will display. The |some_param= must be defined in the template. You can look at the documentation for the template you are using but it is also helpful to use the preview button before you save your edit; this helps you find any errors you have made and ensure that the values you have added are displaying correctly.
