WikiJournal article
[edit]Did you hear from the WikiJournal of Science chief editor? Apologies again, but if it's not too late, we have a plan for moving forward. Aoholcombe (talk) 21:50, 27 March 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Aoholcombe, he said an editor would be assigned to the preprint within the next few weeks or so, so it should be on track now. Thanks for following up! I am curious because I would like to help, is there any part of the process I can volunteer for as a regular wiki editor? Fritzmann (message me) 13:05, 28 March 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for asking, because we need editors, that indeed is the main bottleneck! Here is general info, and information about applying is under Applying here. There it says if you agree with our policies, then apply here with some (brief) information about your background, specifically STEM education and experience, Wikipedia or related project experience, and Publishing or editorial experience. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know! Aoholcombe (talk) 23:58, 28 March 2025 (UTC)
- Aoholcombe, I don't really think I have the experience or background required after looking at the other editors on the board. I'm just an undergrad about to be a naval officer who likes writing Wikipedia articles. Is there a wiki side of the process that I can help with, even in an unofficial manner, that would require less expertise? Fritzmann (message me) 12:23, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you very much @Fritzmann2002, I just had a call with the journal board and we would love it if you could help with something on the wiki side. One example is migrating accepted articles (which are on the WikiJournal of Science page, on the Wikiversity platform) to replace the corresponding Wikipedia article. We have a procedure for that and I am wondering if you'd be up for a videocall to discuss this? Alternatively, I am happy to continue just discussing here, or over email. Aoholcombe (talk) 22:12, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
- Aoholcombe I could definitely do a video call sometime next week. We can set it up on Discord or over email, whichever you prefer. Fritzmann (message me) 12:22, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- Great, thanks, my email is aoholcombe@gmail.com; please email me and let me know what timezone you are in. Aoholcombe (talk) 19:56, 6 April 2025 (UTC)

Good article review
[edit]Hi, Fritzmann. I've nominated a second article for GA review at Order of Nova Scotia, and just thought I'd reach out in case it interests you at all. Hoping that I can get it reviewed relatively soon whereas they're currently accepting nominations until April 18th and I expect a spike in pageviews when they announce the recipients. No worries if you don't want to take this one on, might ask some other folks later if it sits for a while. MediaKyle (talk) 15:07, 28 March 2025 (UTC)
- I think I should be able to take a look at it this week! Thanks for letting me know. Fritzmann (message me) 15:51, 30 March 2025 (UTC)

Question from Molly100731 on Bohemian Forest (04:25, 1 April 2025)
[edit]Hello please how do I create a citation --Molly100731 (talk) 04:25, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Molly100731, and welcome to Wikipedia! The guide Help:Referencing for beginners gives a good overview of how to make a citation. If you are using the visual editor, just click the "Cite" button along the top of the functions bar and follow the instructions in the toolbox! Let me know if you are having trouble with any part of the process. Fritzmann (message me) 12:25, 2 April 2025 (UTC)

I'm curious as to why I cannot move the artilce to the main page? I don't see the tool options in my sandbook.
Thanks in advance --Bishops highlander (talk) 10:49, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Bishops highlander, the article is currently submitted for review, which can take a while. After it has been reviewed, it will either be accepted or rejected. If accepted, it will be automatically moved to mainspace. If rejected, I am happy to help you work on any issues the reviewer points out! Just let me know here and I can guide you through the process. Fritzmann (message me) 12:27, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
Question from DAZA Mah jongg (21:54, 2 April 2025)
[edit]My other account was blocked because evidently they perceived all I was doing was trying to advertise this time around. I want to be able to acknowledge to the world of American Mahjonng by giving an example of existing modern American Mahjong tiles that combine the original Chinese characters with original avant-garde Type graphics so far all the articles I read show the traditional tiles only, but as an avid player since 2017, I can tell you many thousands of us use the traditional tiles along with very new addition sets such as the DA Mahjonng, Art Deco, Tile set, which is very popular How can I introduce this topic to the existing American mah-jongg articles without being blocked for advertising it seems that all over Wikipedia they do mention different companies and their contributions to fields in science, literature, inventions, etc. so I need to know how to write this out and how to post a picture so that I won’t get blocked. I think it’s only fair to add this knowledge to the knowledge base. This is what I would like to say in the history section of American Mahjonng and also in the section that just says Mahjonng tiles, but please help me to write it correctly and I would also like to include a picture subtitle That Mahjonng’s art deco tile set is an alternative modern set two traditional tiles I will not include a link to my website where I sell the product I will not include my phone number or my email, but I think people have the right to see the information worldwide to add to the knowledge base so could I put something like this along with the picture Modern American Mahjonng tiles utilize traditional Chinese symbols while adding a unique flare, such as as a Mahjong Art Deco, American Mahjong tiles created in 2021 --DAZA Mah jongg (talk) 21:54, 2 April 2025 (UTC)

Hello, on the page that shows the Jefferson Starship song "With Your Love", the wrong Vic Smith is given writer's credit. I am the correct Vic Smith (Victor G. Smith, born in 1946 in New York) I have collaborated with Marty Balin since the late 1960's, he was the producer on the Grootna album, and I was the band leader and guitarist on this and on the Bodacious album, on which Marty was the lead singer. How do I correct this misinformation? thanks for your help Turovax --Turovax (talk) 16:27, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Turovax, I can't find any info on a Victor G. Smith online, do you have a reference that can verify that information? I'm happy to make the correction I just can't find a citation to go with it. Fritzmann (message me) 14:32, 7 April 2025 (UTC)

DYK for Hive city
[edit]On 7 April 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Hive city, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that urbanists have used hive cities from the science-fiction universe of Warhammer 40,000 as an example of how vertical cities could become dystopian? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Hive city. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Hive city), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

[edit]Hi! How do i make a new page? By the way, can I call you mentor, or something else? --RetroGenesis (talk) 13:34, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hello RetroGenesis, welcome to Wikipedia! I like your username a lot, by the way! To start working on a new page, see Help:Your first page. It will walk you through the process, but if you run into problems feel free to drop me another message and I can work through it with you. Fritzmann (message me) 14:37, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- First, thanks! Second, thanks for the help, but i also want to know how to save the edits and to find the edits i made. RetroGenesis (talk) 16:26, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hi RetroGenesis, to save your edits you have to hit the "save changes" button, which will publish the changes. If you need to make test edits, use your userpage or sandbox. To find your edits, look in the very top right of the webpage where it says "contributions". That will list all of your edits. Let me know if I can help with anything else! Fritzmann (message me) 18:22, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- It wont let me edit some pages. What do i do? RetroGenesis (talk) 18:28, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- Some pages are protected from new editors because of high rates of vandalism. To edit those articles, you will need to spend more time on the wiki and make positive, productive edits. Alternatively, you can leave a message on the talk page with your suggested edit, and someone will review and implement it if appropriate. Fritzmann (message me) 18:34, 7 April 2025 (UTC)

Notability
[edit]Hey, I was wondering why there is a notability requirement for articles. Isn't Wikipedia supposed to be a source for all information, no matter how insignificant it may be? Vestrix (talk) 02:08, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Vestrix, that's a tough question to answer. I would point you to the article Aguaxima and Diderot's (originator of l'encyclopedie) comments about notability. An encyclopedia is meant to be a compendium of useful knowledge, compiled from secondary sources. If no secondary sources exist, we can't create useful knowledge out of nothing; that's a job for scholars and academia. Fritzmann (message me) 12:33, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
- Ok, thank you! Vestrix (talk) 13:06, 8 April 2025 (UTC)

[edit]I created a post and it was deleted.. What can i do? --Olumide King (talk) 17:26, 13 April 2025 (UTC)
- Olumide King, as Patrick explained on your talk page, the article that you created is not appropriate for wikipedia. It does not appear to meet notability criteria, does not have reliable references, and is written in a highly promotional tone. Fritzmann (message me) 01:08, 14 April 2025 (UTC)

Yo wassup
[edit]Whats good Fritzmann. I was wondering if there was a place where I could get articles peer-reviewed. Vestrix (talk) 19:43, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hey Vestrix, there are a couple of places you can ask, but a lot of them are very slow. For some reason, most peer-review forums have large backlogs. Wikipedia:Peer Review gives the highest quality general reviews, while the Guild of Copyeditors does reviews specifically of grammar and style. WikiProjects are another good place to ask, but are also varying in activity. Asking individual editors is always my go-to; you can look at a page's history or similar articles to see if any names pop up a lot, and then ask them to give your article a look. As always, I'm also happy to help and can provide input if you'd like. Fritzmann (message me) 22:56, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
- If you can and if you have time, it would be nice if you could. The article is 2003 Gibraltar general election Vestrix (talk) 23:01, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
- Vestrix, I made some general changes including: adding a section for the references and fixing bare URLs, changing the text sections to flow better, and fixing typos & grammar issues. I removed the maintenance banner because you added plenty of inline citations which is great! The thing at this point that would improve the article the most would be if you can find any news reporting on the election; that would likely be the best source of additional info. Otherwise, it is pretty well-rounded and covers the basics of the topic! Fritzmann (message me) 23:15, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
- Alright, thank you! Vestrix (talk) 23:28, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
- If I may ask, what is included in other election articles that is not in this one? I'm just trying to set my focus on smt so I can crack down on it. Vestrix (talk) 23:36, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
- Vestrix, I'd recommend looking at election Good Articles. Similar ones include the 2014 South African general election, which includes pretty much everything an article on a general election could. Fritzmann (message me) 00:23, 15 April 2025 (UTC)

Hi there! I am pretty new to Wikipedia and was asked by the organization I work for to maintain our organizations page. The organization is called International Solar Energy Society, it has it's own page here on Wikipedia. Unfortunately, whenever I try to provide info about our organization, my edits get taken down. I understand that this is due to my closeness to the organization which I fully understand but I am wondering, how can we help update our organizations entry if I can not edit it? Your help is much appreciated! --B.Lieh (talk) 09:25, 25 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hello B.Lieh, thanks for trying to take the more challenging but correct approach of following Wikipedia's somewhat byzantine policies and procedures. We are particularly sensitive to paid editors or those with a conflict of interest because we strive to maintain neutrality in all of our articles. I am happy to help you however I can (while keeping in mind I'm a volunteer that is not always active) in improving the article without adding promotional content.
- As someone who is paid to edit, I highly recommend becoming familiar with how to edit before jumping in. For content to be added to a Wikipedia article, it needs to be accompanied by a high-quality, reliable, and verifiable source. Because Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, we cannot generate any information here, even if you have an expert understanding of the topic.
- My recommendation for you is to find references that discuss the International Solar Energy Society, and then add them to the talk page, accompanied by the content from them you would suggest adding. Your first move should be to ask an editor to review the sources and add the content for you; if none respond in a timely manner, you can do so yourself. As long as you approach editing and volunteers in good faith, people should be willing to work with you. Volunteers may be a bit suspicious of your work, just because Wikipedia can be legitimately damaged by non-neutral or promotional content done maliciously, but it is absolutely possible to build a good relationship that benefits the encyclopedia.
- Please feel free to ask me any questions you have or for input on potential edits. If I'm not available, the teahouse is a great spot to ask for direction.
- Very Respectfully, Fritzmann (message me) 14:17, 25 April 2025 (UTC)

- Hi JohnMizuki, and thanks for what looks to be a great article so far! I'll take a more detailed look in a bit, but one thing I noticed is that parts of the article are unreferenced, which would raise some flags at GA. It is definitely close, but would probably need some polishing before it is nominated. I can give more detailed feedback on the article's talk page, if you'd like. To reiterate what we said in the previous newsletter, we are no longer disqualifying contestants based on how many points (now known as round points) they received. Instead, the contestants with the highest round-point totals now receive tournament points at the end of each round. These tournament points are carried over between rounds, and can only be earned if a competitor is among the top 16 round-point scorers at the end of each round. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far. Everyone who competed in round 2 will advance to round 3 unless they have withdrawn or been banned.
Round 2 was quite competitive. Four contestants scored more than 1,000 round points, and eight scored more than 500 points (including one who has withdrawn). The following competitors scored at least 800 points:
BeanieFan11 (submissions) with 1,233 round points from 24 good articles, 28 Did you know articles, and one In the news nomination, mainly about athletes and politicians
Thebiguglyalien (submissions) with 1,127 round points, almost entirely from two high-multiplier featured articles on Black Widow (Natasha Romanova) and Grace Coolidge, in addition to two GAs and two reviews
History6042 (submissions) with 1,088 round points from four featured lists about Michelin-starred restaurants, nine good articles and a good topic mostly on Olympic-related subjects, seven ITN articles, and dozens of reviews
Gog the Mild (submissions) with 1,085 round points from three FAs, one GA, and four DYKs on military history, as well as 18 reviews
Arconning (submissions) with 887 round points, mostly from four FLs, six GAs, and seven DYKs on Olympic topics, along with more than two dozen reviews
In addition, we would like to recognize Generalissima (submissions) for her efforts; she scored 801 round points but withdrew before the end of the round.
The full scores for round 2 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 13 featured articles, 20 featured lists, 4 featured-topic articles, 138 good articles, 7 good-topic articles, and more than 100 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 19 In the News articles, and they have conducted nearly 300 reviews.
Remember that any content promoted after 28 April but before the start of Round 3 can be claimed in Round 3. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Question from ShaikhHahassanMahmud (02:33, 29 April 2025)
[edit]Why I am not auto user till now --ShaikhHahassanMahmud (talk) 02:33, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
- ShaikhHahassanMahmud, autoconfirmed status requires your account to be 4 days old and have ten edits. Since you have met those requirements, you were automatically granted the user status. Fritzmann (message me) 11:49, 29 April 2025 (UTC)

Question from CrimsonWraith (11:57, 7 May 2025)
[edit]How do you make sure the sources you use for a Wikipedia article are reliable and meet Wikipedia’s standards? --CrimsonWraith (talk) 11:57, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
- CrimsonWraith, the guide at WP:Reliable sources gives an in-depth breakdown, but there is also a perennial sources table where you can search for popular sources to see if they are considered reliable. For more niche sources, you can search or ask at the noticeboard, or you are free to ask me if you are uncertain about a particular source and I can weigh in.
