Wikipedia talk:Developing Countries WikiContest

resources

[edit]

We have access to ProQuest and newspapers.com. Where can I get past information about developing countries, since newspapers in some countries like India and Nigeria are known for promotion.

For specific countries, Latin America particularly is what i’m curious about.

I mean, scholarly sources are generally ideal. Google Scholar is useful for finding open-access scholarly papers. You can also see if you qualify for Wikipedia Library. Google Books is good for getting leads on books, though I'd generally recommend seeking some way to get the full book if you intend to use it, maybe through a library of some kind. There are some resources that are specific to certain countries as well. For example, I know INEHRM publishes a lot of high-quality (Spanish-language) scholarly resources on Mexican history and that they're frequently available to the public as easily-accessibly PDFs. You could check with the relevant country's Wikiproject to see if they are aware of similarly useful sources specific to the region you're working on. Finally, if you're curious about the veracity of a specific source, you can look it up on the reliable sources noticeboard or ask about it yourself. Hope this is helpful! WP:NPPSG has an incomplete but useful list of sources and their reliability organized by location! ... sawyer * any/all * talk 04:29, 19 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Wonderful contest--can we associate wikiprojects?

[edit]

This is great, as we at WP:ELIT are actively working to develop articles about electronic literature in developing countries. Could we participate as a project to list articles? Our regular editathon in July is going to focus on Indian electronic literature... @ME(hu)lit Thank youLoveElectronicLiterature (talk) 13:37, 19 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hey LoveElectronicLiterature, we would love to have the WikiProject participate! Thanks for bringing my attention to a medium I didn't previously know existed. I've gone ahead and left an invite message on the WikiProject talk page. What kind of contributions does your July editathon cover? All improvements to the encyclopedia are worthwhile, but the DCWC awards points only for things like DYK hooks and GA promotions (similar to the WikiCup) — the scoring page has more information. Thank you for the information. I think our project would be better for a contest for the most improved stubs or start class articles. Our main article for electronic literature has been nominated for a GA, but the rest of our materials are not there yet. Our July editathon is identifying articles in the Hindi, Gujarti wikipedias that should be translated into English, and to translate our main article into those languages. LoveElectronicLiterature you can submit translated articles to WP:DYK if the sources have all been checked and no unsourced material is being translated over. CMD (talk) 16:08, 20 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
