WP:ELIT Editathon Edit Tasks
[edit]The WP:ELIT project and the Wikipedia:WikiProject Women writers/Women electronic literature writers hold monthly editathons as well as editathons at Electronic Literature Organization, New Media Writing Prize, and other conferences. We are always encouraging new editors to help curate and provide information about electronic literature and the associated lists and categories. So here is a list of easy edit tasks that would be very useful. You can always contact me on my website deenalarsen dot net for more information.
Our WP:ELIT editathons are every Third Thursday at Three PM UTC. This is an easy list of things to do. You can also look at my sandbox for articles I am creating.
- Sign up for announcements at WP:ELIT
- Add descriptions, authors to List of electronic literature works - Wikipedia
- Ensure each category and list that mention electronic literature has an introduction to our field: Electronic literature is a literary genre defined as “born digital” works that use computational media to create artistic literary effects with an expanded repertoire that goes well beyond words.[1] Please note that this category has a corresponding Wikipedia Project WP:ELIT. Also make sure that each sub list links back to the main Electronic literature list
- Check that every article about electronic literature is marked in the appropriate category and is on the right list page. We are using a hierarchical category system, so drill down to the most specific category. for example, there are only 2 works in 2020s electronic literature work category as of 6/27/2025!. Check each link on VizQuery - Hay's tools
- Add "See also: List of electronic literature works" to categories for electronic literature works
- Use notable references (see Electronic literature publishers, journals, and collections) to add citations to existing articles. See
- Collaboration and authority in electronic literature | Published in TEXT
- Go to Seed (electronic literature) - Wikipedia and add in references from the talk page
- Go to Archivio di Nuova Scrittura - Wikipedia and look up all of these artists--are any of them electronic literature writers?
- Connect visual poetry to electronic literature? Find citations where electronic literature pieces are cited as visual poetry, provide these examples in the article, and link
- Find citations for Hypermedia - Wikipedia
- add infoboxes
- Add more descriptions for collections from The NEXT Museum - Wikipedia .
- Connect articles to Wikidata. Go to the Wikidata item & find the Wikipedia block (either to the right or at the bottom). Click on
edit, then add the language & the article name and save. - Daft missing articles in your sandbox:
- Note obsolete works in Lost Works? Maybe have a category for these?
- A bit more advanced--but use Help:Archiving a source - Wikipedia and locate obsolete materials?
- List electronic literature criticism books with Category:Books of literary criticism - Wikipedia
Who I am
[edit]I am Deena Larsen and I have loved electronic literature ever since the early 1990s. The field has grown from a bare dozen writers to thousands in the past three decades--and has spanned several complete revolutions. I have been involved in electronic literature. I have gone to practically every conference. I know people in the field. I probably watched them give their presentations, read their essays, read their works, and talked to them. I want to help wikipedians access the full spectrum of the genre. I now have a bit of time to do that because I retired July 30, 2022.
I worked for over 30 years as a technical writer in water management, so I do have a passion for clearly explaining complex environmental and water issues as well.
I am not being paid to update anything. I have not received any compensation nor am I seeking compensation for any edit. This is purely a volunteer effort as I love this field and I want wikipedia readers to know about this field. I have used citations and references for all updates.
So, yes, I am one of those myriad old fogey volunteers pursuing their passions! Please help me as I am a newbie here at wikipedia and an oldie at elit! I greatly appreciate all your help!
