Question from Hawthornele (17:15, 31 March 2025)
[edit]Hi Rosiestep,
Where can I find instructions on adding a section (Bibliography specifically) and updating the Box-out information? In general, I'm not sure how to search Wiki specifically for editing support - I appreciate your guidance. Thanks! --Hawthornele (talk) 17:15, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
- found the info as soon as I asked! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hawthornele (talk • contribs) 10:53, March 31, 2025 (UTC)
- No worries, Hawthornele. They were good questions! Adding this info here in case it's helpful for a pagestalker. --Rosiestep (talk) 21:22, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
Hello
[edit]Hi Rosiestep, I hope you’re doing well! I just wanted to take a moment to say that your work has truly been an inspiration for me. I come from a small, often-overlooked corner of India—Northeast India—and I had joined Wikipedia to share the stories, culture, and history of our region and its people. Your contributions to wikipedia had motivated me to help bring greater awareness to where I come from, and for that, I’m really grateful. It all started after I binge watched a Youtube Video about you.
Thank you for being such a positive influence. I just wanted to say hi and let you know that your work matters. Here are some of the articles I had worked on: Hannah Lalhlanpuii, Kaitho Sukhai, Shania Yan, Theyiechüthie Sakhrie.
Best regards, Flyingphoenixchips (talk) 02:17, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
- Nice to hear form you, Flyingphoenixchips, and thanks for the kind words. Also, thanks for what you do around here! --Rosiestep (talk) 21:47, 1 April 2025 (UTC)

My story today is about an opera singer born OTD in 1870. I have problems to say something as informative about Mirella Freni, as the DYK nom shows. -Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:07, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
Nevermind, the hook was improved. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:14, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- I certainly enjoyed reading about both of them, particularly Fausta Labia. Ipigott, regarding FL, I'm curious as to why the Italian cities and the opera composers weren't wikilinked. I ask as I would have wikilinked them, but maybe I'm missing the reason why not to do so. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:24, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- Without looking: to avoid too much blue. Rome should never be linked; when an opera house is linked there's no need to link its city also (people who want to read about Venice will find it in La Fenice), and when an opera is linked whoever wants the composer's life can turn to the opera. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:37, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for the ping, Rosie. I regard Gerda as something of an expert on Wikipedia's coverage of opera (and other forms of classical and choral music). She has provided me with enormous help in improving my biographies of numerous insufficiently recognized opera singers I'm glad to see you enjoyed reading Labia's biography.--Ipigott (talk) 16:03, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you, both. Bottom line (for pagestalking newbies):

- Oui, tout. Et... enjoyed reading the one beneath it, the monk and musician, Notker. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:24, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- today: a woman in red, - Notker was last year's sorry. I don't come every day, but a click on story gives you a new one each day ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:40, 10 April 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, last year's; I noticed the date and read it nonetheless. :) --Rosiestep (talk) 12:46, 12 April 2025 (UTC)
- I missed it: WT:DYK#Good Friday. After I heard Bach's St John Passion yesterday (see music), it occurred to me that I missed the work in prep, by a great woman inspired by it. - A cat in the pics. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:01, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
- We all get busy sometimes. I hope you enjoy the celebrations over the long weekend. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:46, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
- Check out my talk: for a great woman's Johannes-Passion (listen!), our sung music in detail, and three people who recently died and are on the main page (where she isn't). My call for collaboration has the first "no", and the second - for the Easter Oratorio - seems inevitable. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:38, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
- Read all 3 articles associated with An die Hoffnung (Max Reger, Friedrich Hölderlin, Anna Erler-Schnaudt). Happy Easter! --Rosiestep (talk) 16:19, 19 April 2025 (UTC)
- Great that you became interested! - What a beauty, your Easter cat! - Happy Easter as well, - my story is about music that Bach and Picander gave the world 300 years (and 19 days) ago, - listen (on the conductor's birthday) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:02, 20 April 2025 (UTC)
- I wrote my story today and then found it's the person's funeral day. - I hated to see DYK for Johannes-Passion (Gubaidulina) today instead of Good Friday, but it seems also right in the context. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:54, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
- I finally managed to upload the pics I meant for Easter, see places (no cat but an animal). - Also finally, I managed a FAC, Easter Oratorio. I wanted that on the main page for Easter Sunday, but no, twice. You are invited to join a discussion about what "On this day" means, day or date. - The Bogotá cat is wonderful! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:49, 25 April 2025 (UTC)

Backdated maintenance tags
[edit]I'm wondering why you're adding so many backdated "one source" tags - for example, {{one source|date=August 2020}} - to Max Ehinger and many others? Is this a copy/paste oversight? Ingratis (talk) 10:43, 9 April 2025 (UTC)
- To clarify, it's the backdating that puzzles me rather than the placing of the tags as such. Ingratis (talk) 15:34, 9 April 2025 (UTC)
(watching:) I fail anyway to understand why more than one ref would be even expected for one sentence, with a tag occupying more space than the sentence + ref. Most readers will be able to count that at a glance, and it seems not even a problem. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:19, 9 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Ingratis and Gerda Arendt:, thanks for noticing my gnomish work as part of my participation in the European Destubathon. It's a habit of mine to backdate to the article creation month if what's missing can factually be traced to that date, e.g., it's not something I do automatically or as an oversight. In addition to "one source", you'll see that I follow the same process for "no footnotes", "unref", etc. As for "one source" template for a 1 sentence article: IMO, it's a slippery slope to make allowance for 1 ref for 1 sentence. By adding the tag, some editor who wouldn't otherwise view the article will view it and, hopefully, not just add another ref, but also add more content. Of course, editors are welcome to revert or edit my edits as they please. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:26, 9 April 2025 (UTC)
- I'd just prefer cat work to you wasting time on saying "1 is 1 ...". A stub tag should do the same trick, no? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:29, 9 April 2025 (UTC)
- That would make sense, but alas, a stub tag doesn't necessarily accomplish the same thing. See Category:Swiss writer stubs where, last night, I tagged many articles that were created more than a dozen years ago. Also, destubbed the ones that weren't a stub anymore. Also, made gnomish improvement edits to some of the stubs. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:37, 9 April 2025 (UTC)
- I've moved on to reviewing European sociologist stubs where I just encountered Yngvar Løchen; multiple sentences, 1 source, created in 2008 by an editor who now has 131K+ edits. If it were tagged with "one source" and "April 2024", it might be many years before someone reviewed it, vs. "October 2008". Alternatively, not tag it. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:54, 9 April 2025 (UTC)

- Thanks for the explanation of the backdating, which is what I was asking about - I see your reasoning, although I don't know, to be honest, whether I agree with it. My main concern was to check if it was accidental or not, and since it's not, I'll mind my own business! Ingratis (talk) 18:22, 9 April 2025 (UTC)
- Ingratis I'm not opposed to using the nifty template tagger, which does the job more quickly/easily, and I'm willing to learn from other points of view. Ergo, curious as to your thoughts on backdating. Care to share? --Rosiestep (talk) 13:34, 10 April 2025 (UTC)
- My reservation, apart from a general unhappiness about adding false information, for whatever reason, is that if you backdate the maintenance templates the affected articles will indeed, as you anticipate, generally come to be reviewed sooner, but they will not have had the length of exposure they should have had. If you backdate something to 2010, for example, it will not have had the 15 intervening years for someone to improve it before being reviewed and probably PRODded or AfDed. (You may or may not find that convincing!) Best wishes, Ingratis (talk) 12:40, 11 April 2025 (UTC)
- Ingratis, I'm glad I asked the question. It never occurred to me to consider these points. Thanks for sharing. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:42, 11 April 2025 (UTC)

Question from DeadMeat778 (19:30, 11 April 2025)
[edit]Hey, I want to create an article, i wanted to ask if these sources are good to use for article creation? Or they do not count as a reliable source? https://moneygenius.ca/insurance/home-insurance/square-one-home-insurance https://loanscanada.ca/insurance/square-one-insurance-review/ --DeadMeat778 (talk) 19:30, 11 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hi DeadMeat778 and thanks for stopping by. These are good questions. Both of the examples (moneygenius.ca; loanscanada.ca) are primary sources. So the answer is 'no', they would not count as a reliable source. Here are some links which provide explanations on self-published works; primary sources; and the differences between primary, secondary, and tertiary sources. I'll leave some additional links for newcomers on your talkpage. Thanks for joining Wikipedia and happy editing! --Rosiestep (talk) 12:46, 12 April 2025 (UTC)

- Thanks! Yes, a Happy Easter to you! The year is flying! I'll try to find some time to expand a few more Spanish stubs in the last 10 days of the contest. So much content still missing on buildings from Spanish Wikipedia. Perhaps I should run a global article creation contest next, that would greatly help WIR too. Is there a general missing articles list by country on here like you have at WIR? It would take a long time to build a decent one for a contest manually.♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:53, 20 April 2025 (UTC)
- Good idea, but I bet it's a lot of work! WiR, by country, here: Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Redlist index#Countries. Now I need to get some sleep... --Rosiestep (talk) 08:22, 20 April 2025 (UTC)

Question from Yehudaninyo (15:29, 19 April 2025)
[edit]Hi, I’d like to create a new article on Wikipedia about an Israeli artist and scientist whose work in contemporary art has gained international recognition. I believe she has made a meaningful contribution to both culture and science. I’ve already drafted a page about her — can you please guide me on how to properly submit it as a new article? Thanks in advance! --Yehudaninyo (talk) 15:29, 19 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Yehudaninyo and thanks for stopping by. Here's a page with instructions regarding your first article and here's a video on the topic. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:34, 19 April 2025 (UTC)

Question from Kritzerdagoat (00:56, 22 April 2025)
[edit]can you find some small and easy articles for me to edit so i can start editing better? thanks, from yk who,-Kritzerdagoat --Kritzerdagoat (talk) 00:56, 22 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Kritzerdagoat and thanks for your question. Small articles on Wikipedia are called "Stubs", maybe you'd like to expand some of them, though I'm not suggesting that adding content is "easy" as you have to include references when you add content. As I noticed your comment on the 2025 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations talkpage, here are links to some football Stub categories: Category:Nigerian sport stubs / Category:South African sport stubs. Regarding "easy" edits, maybe you'd like to add categories to existing articles? Here's an index to articles that need more categories: Category:Articles needing additional categories. If you provide more information about your interests, I'll come up with some other suggestions. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:30, 22 April 2025 (UTC)
Question from Kritzerdagoat (22:10, 22 April 2025)
[edit]Its ya boy, Kritzerdagoat, enough with the jokes for now, i added some minor things to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jay_Jay_Okocha_Stadium, please rate the stuff i added, thank you for your help. From ya boy-Kritzerdagoat --Kritzerdagoat (talk) 22:10, 22 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hi again Kritzerdagoat. I see that you made 1 edit to the Jay Jay Okocha Stadium article, adding 2 sentences but no reference(s) so the next step is to please add the reliable source(s) that support what you added. A video to help you with this: how to add citations. Keep at it! --Rosiestep (talk) 03:04, 23 April 2025 (UTC)

Question from Richcaldicott (15:12, 26 April 2025)
[edit]Hi, Rose.
I just tried to submit a page for Boycat, the Palestinian BDS Partner App. However, my submission was declined. Could you help me out with this?
Best, Richard --Richcaldicott (talk) 15:12, 26 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hello Richcaldicott and thanks for your question. The editor who reviewed your draft article of Boycat (BDS Partner App) mentioned what the issues are with the current state of the article (reliable sources) so my recommendation is to comply with what they said. As the article is about computing technology, you might ask for further assistance at Wikipedia:WikiProject Computing. --Rosiestep (talk) 12:16, 27 April 2025 (UTC)
Question from NewsDoseMania (06:33, 28 April 2025)
[edit]I have similar pages which can support the pages of wikipedia. Can I add those links in the middle of the pages? --NewsDoseMania (talk) 06:33, 28 April 2025 (UTC)
From the bottom of my heart, a kindly request
[edit]¡Hola, Naturista2018!
I saw that you are a versatile wiki user, with multiple skills to make things go better, through your native understanding of Spanish and advanced knowledge of English, French, Romanian, etc. I would like to ask you to help me fix a technical error regarding two footnotes on the page https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dumitru_Găleșanu
I tried a few times to enter the correct necessary change texts, but something prevents me from completing the operation. At the following address - https://es.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usuario_discusi%C3%B3n:HaiciuM#Cerere_de_ajutor_pentru_remediere_erori_la_2_Note_de_subsol
- I asked for the support of the original editor, user:HaiciuM, but he didn't answer me. He is probably no longer active at the moment or is temporarily in charge of other wiki projects. By consulting that address, you will certainly understand what it is about. Otherwise, I will send you the application for help translated from Romanian into English.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart and I remain grateful! Adlingvist Adlingvist (talk) 07:50, 28 April 2025 (UTC)
