Question from Rozalia Luksenburg (13:50, 1 May 2025)
[edit]Hi!! Nice to meet you :-) I'm working on an article I want to create about a gender topic. As I'm involve in academia, I want to ask you if you have any recommendations about how to write something academic but in Wikipedia style. --Rozalia Luksenburg (talk) 13:50, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi there, Rozalia Luksenburg, and welcome to Wikipedia. It's good to see you are interested in creating articles on gender topics. I suggest you start by looking at the links on your talk page which will help you to learn how to edit on Wikipedia. It's important to make sure that each detail you include in an article relies on a reliable source which should be included as a citation. If you feel you have made sufficient progress on a new article, please let me know and I'll try to help you along. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 15:51, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi! Thank you so much for your kind message and warm welcome.
- Yes, I’ve actually been working on a Wikipedia article for about a year now. It’s currently in its final formatting revisions, and I’ve been collaborating with colleagues—both academics and policy experts—to gather their feedback. It’s a really important and fascinating topic, and while teaching at the university, I’ve realized how often students turn to Wikipedia as a reference. So having a well-sourced, clear page on this subject feels genuinely valuable.
- As soon as I have the final draft ready, I’ll definitely send it to you! Thanks again for offering your support.
- Have a good one! Rozalia Luksenburg (talk) 16:33, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi again!
- Just following up on the article I mentioned a while back — Child penalties — it’s now live on Wikipedia.
- As I told you before, this is a topic I care a lot about, and I’ve been working on the article slowly over the past months. Since English isn’t my native language haha (I’m a native speaker of German and Spanish), I was extra careful with the writing — probably more than in anything I’ve written academically. I also tried to follow Wikipedia’s tone and structure closely, and all the content is based on peer-reviewed research in labor economics and gender studies.
- A few PhD colleagues in econ and the social sciences have told me they found the page helpful already, which is encouraging! But I’d really value your feedback :-) (especially on the style, tone, or anything else you think might need improvement from a Wikipedia point of view).
- I also had two quick questions:
- - When other pages (like Gender pay gap) link to the article, the preview still says “Page not found.” Does that eventually fix itself?
- - When people search “child penalties Wikipedia” on Google, the article doesn’t show up. Is there something I could do to help with that?
- Thanks again for your support earlier on — it really gave me the push to get this across the finish line.
- Best,
- Roza Rozalia Luksenburg (talk) 21:36, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
Question from Sam Jenkins Arthur (08:05, 5 May 2025)
[edit]How do I move a sandbox into the main page?t --Sam Jenkins Arthur (talk) 08:05, 5 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi there, Sam Jenkins Arthur, and welcome to Wikipedia. I have looked at your work on a biography of Ebenezer Jazial Nesakumar in your sandbox but I'm afraid it is not suitable for Wikipedia. In accordance with Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons, biographies need to be based on substantial coverage in least three secondary sources such as reliable newspapers or appropriate journals or in connection with the receipt of notable awards. Citations based on sites closely related to the individual are not acceptable for demonstrating notability. That said, you appear to have a good grasp of Wikipedia editing and I would encourage you to work on topics based on acceptable sources. Please let me know if I can help you further. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 08:37, 5 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks. So I wouldn't be able to move it to the main page? Sam Jenkins Arthur (talk) 10:26, 5 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Sam Jenkins Arthur: If you moved it, it would soon be deleted as it does not meet basic notability requirements. If you are keen to write biographies, I suggest you start with people who have achieved widely reported success. It's usually easier to cover people who are no longer living. It might be useful if you could create your user page giving us an idea of your background and interests and why you are keen to edit on Wikipedia. We may them be able to help you further. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 12:41, 5 May 2025 (UTC)

- @CoolDino1: In connection with Wooly Willy, there appear to have been copyright problems. If you want to reinstate any of the deleted content, you should make sure it is re-expressed in your own words. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 11:46, 7 May 2025 (UTC)

Question from Peraltyssyma (18:30, 7 May 2025)
[edit]hey man i want to make myself a wiki page, what do I do sir? --Peraltyssyma (talk) 18:30, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi there, Peraltyssyma, and welcome to Wikipedia. -Please use the links in my welcome message on your talk page to learn how to edit on Wikipedia. You can use your user page to provide basic information on your background and why you are interested in contributing to Wikipedia but you should not attempt to write your own biography. Wikipedia strongly discourages autobiographies or biographies of those with whom you have close connections. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 06:52, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
Hey dear editor
[edit]Hey editor I have been looking through your edits recently and I love it all you are just a perfect Wikipedia editor model for me, I am planning on creating 20 new articles about women cause I think women deserve to be more on Wikipedia and am going to join wikiproject women in red, please can you keep out for me cause I would be creating a lot of articles about women but can you do me a favor and review this article I created, I wish you the best you are the best Wikipedia editor if you don’t know, keep up your hard work. Making it now (talk) 01:27, 10 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi there, Making it now, and welcome to Wikipedia. In my opinion, your biography of Juest is something of a borderline case as I am not sure whether the sources you quote are widely recognized as reliable. At this stage, he has only a couple of recording to his name. It would be good if you could look for sources in more widely read newspapers or journals. Happy editing!-Ipigott (talk) 14:57, 11 May 2025 (UTC)

- @Making it now: For establishing notability, we need sources which cover the individual in some detail, not simply a name in a listing. But let's see what other reviewers think about this.--Ipigott (talk) 11:11, 15 May 2025 (UTC)
- Please note the article has been for over a month without being patrolled can you please mark it as patrolled to take it out the new pages feed, thank you so much and I would be working on more articles about women. Making it now (talk) 10:51, 28 May 2025 (UTC)

Hello. I will like to get my artist bio on Wikipedia. How do I go about it --Noxobiux (talk) 11:18, 15 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi there, Noxobiux, and welcome to Wikipedia. You can use the links in my welcome message on your talk page to see how to edit on Wikipedia. I'm afraid Wikipedia is strongly opposed to biographies by individuals about themselves or their close associates. You are however welcome to write biographies of other artists who are covered in some detail in reliable independent sources such as newspapers, specialized journals or in connection with the awards they have received. You can nevertheless use your user page to give summary details of your background and interests and why you hope to contribute to Wikipedia, Please let me know if I can help you further or if you run into any difficulties. Question from Lighthousefire (18:00, 18 May 2025)
[edit]Hey, wanted to edit the trade union UNISON's page - the President, Steve North, has been suspended from his post, Julie Mwaluke and Lynn Marie O’Hara as Vice Presidents are continuing his duties until a new President is elected next month, how would be the best way to convey this in the infobox and article? I don't know how much info can be put in the key poeple section, and I haven't made any new heading before about anything so I'm slightly wary. Thanks! --Lighthousefire (talk) 18:00, 18 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi there< Lighthousefire, and welcome to Wikipedia. You can use the links in my welcome message on your talk page to find out how to edit. As for the changes you propose, each new item needs to be backed by a citation from a reliable source. If you find difficulty in making the edits yourself, you can draw attention to the changes on the article's talk page. Please let me know if you need further assistance. [edit]Hi, how's it going? I'm from Campo Grande, a city in Brazil, and just realized that a huge aquarium we have since 2022 in my city is not on wikipedia in english, and the portuguese article is very incomplete (https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aqu%C3%A1rio_do_Pantanal). I was wondering if you can help me translate it and get more information about it on the website. Thank you

- Hi there, Arnaldocma, and welcome to Wikipedia. The article on the aquarium certainly deserves to be translated and I look forward to your further development of the draft article. Rowena Hill
[edit]Dear Ipigott, I hope you are doing well. I haven't done much recently as there is illness in our house. But I have tried to make a draft start article for Rowena Hill. The draft procedure seems to have changed somehow but anyway...it seems to be at: Draft:Rowena Hill Do you think it is acceptable? If you do, then I will find categories for it and move it to main space. I do have a problem with two of the NZ govt references though which have bits missing and I don't know how to find them. I wonder if you could figure out what I need to do? Sorry to trouble you with this. Balance person (talk) 13:02, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
- Balance person: It would be good if you could find reviews of her works or related awards. I see there is also another Rowana Hill who was awarded an MBE. But feel free to go ahead with categories, etc.--Ipigott (talk) 14:57, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks very much. I have added a quote from a review, a listing for translation, added a couple of categories, moved it to main space and made sure that it is not an orphan. If you happen to see it as a newly moved article,....I'd be grateful? Thanks as ever for your speed and care. Balance person (talk) 19:22, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
- Have also added her photo from Wiki Commons Balance person (talk) 19:33, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
- Ah! And there is also a strange message on the talk page for Rowena Hill that indicates that somebody must have tried to make a page for her before. I have no idea what to do about that! If you have time at some point, could you possibly take a look? Not today of course! Balance person (talk) 20:45, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) @Balance person The message is about a previous article which was moved to draft in 2019 and then deleted after 6 months in 2020 as it had been "abandoned". I've created a new talk page.
- But I'm a bit confused by the contradiction between lead sentence and categories: is she English/Welsh (whatever that is - British?) or Venezuelan? You say "based in Venezuela for more than forty years" but that's not really the same as "Venezuelan". Perhaps add English/Welsh/British categories as well as the Venezuelan ones? And you need one or more categories which indicate "woman" or "female". Thanks. PamD 21:14, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
- I've tweaked the refs a bit - the first two had red error messages complaining that they had no titles, and I dug around a bit to expand on "Translator's note"! PamD 21:34, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
- And added a couple of categories, and DEFAULTSORT, and added this article to her WikiData entry so that the 3 other language articles are now displayed. And made a redirect from her long name Rowena Mary Hill, and added her to Hill (surname). Do we know which university she graduated from? If known and sourced, and added, then an "alumni" category would be appropriate too.
- Just various bits of infrastructure which make the article easier to find, etc.
- On "DEFAULTSORT", let me introduce you to a useful shortcut, {{L}}: (boilerplate text now follows):
- There is a very easy way to add the DEFAULTSORT (so the article files by surname in lists), and Category:Living people where appropriate, and any birth or death date category:
{{subst:L|1882|1984|Brown, Annie}}
would create {{DEFAULTSORT:Brown, Annie}}, Category:1882 births and Category:1984 deaths, while{{subst:L|||Smith, Jane}}
would create {{DEFAULTSORT:Smith, Jane}}, Category:Living people and Category:Date of birth missing (living people). Lack of death date implies "living" (or you can add "unknown" or "missing" as the death date to suppress this). You get a lot done for a few keystrokes: I think it's a great little template. Happy Editing.

- Dear PamD Gosh, thanks for all the wonderful help. I will now go and look at the page and see what I need to do! I don't know her university unfortunately. And I can find no citation to prove she was born in Cardiff but I suppose it is true. No obits so I think she is still alive. I use visual editor as I am pretty basic techno-wise. SO I will try to find out how to do the Default sort thing in visual editor next time. More when I have had a look. Thanks again! Balance person (talk) 07:28, 25 May 2025 (UTC)
- Amazing what you have done. Thank you! I have added some British categories as you suggested. Also Living people and Women Balance person (talk) 07:43, 25 May 2025 (UTC)
- If you don't have a source for Cardiff (or anything else), then you should remove it. I notice that WikiData says her birthplace (Cardiff) is sourced to Spanish Wikipedia, but we don't take Wikipedia as a reliable source. Even if you're translating an article, you're responsible for not adding unsourced content (especially about a living person). I notice that the biog you see if you click on "About the author" in this ref says she was born in England. That may be someone outside the UK thinking Wales=Britain =England, but we should assume it to be true (probably contributed by "the author", ie Hill.)
- Looking further, her archived personal website says she was born in England, and doesn't mention Wales. Where did the "Welsh" come from?
- The Spanish Wikipedia article was started in April 2013, with the birthplace stated but not apparently sourced (unless it was in the now-unavailable "laletra") so it would be great to find a source for her birthplace which predates that, as otherwise we can't be sure that some enthusiastic editor invented it for sp.wiki and it was then picked up and spread around.
- I got interested in her and made the various upgrades I do when I feel inclined to support a new article. By looking at the changes and the other things I mentioned, you can see how to improve your own future editing - it all helps get the article more easily found/read/etc. Happy Editing! - Dear Ipigott,
- I have had loads of help from PamD with Rowena Hill who is as far as I think I can get her for now. I think the page is yet to be reviewed and classified. I don't know if you would spot it as a new page perhaps? Hope you have a good weekend Balance person (talk) 10:39, 25 May 2025 (UTC)

Hi! I have a question about one page. I've been doing some little edits on the page for Gertrude Caton Thompson and, when I was looking at the citations, I realised some were referencing her works as 'Thompson, Gertrude Caton', and others as 'Caton-Thompson, Gertrude'. I looked at her books and she pretty consistently refers to herself as Gertrude Caton-Thompson, which is also used on the British Academy website and the British Museum website (e.g. https://www.thebritishacademy.ac.uk/about/12-decades-of-the-british-academy/the-1930s/the-first-women-in-the-british-academy/ ; https://www.thebritishacademy.ac.uk/blog/reclaiming-great-zimbabwes-past-to-learn-lessons-for-the-future/ ; https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/term/BIOG133741). I changed the references so they all used the hyphenated version, for the sake of continuity, but I was wondering whether that should be something that I should change for the spelling of her name throughout the article?
Thanks in advance! --Nmaybury4 (talk) 14:35, 25 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi there, Nmaybury4, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your edits appear to be sensible. In names of authors in citations should be presented as they appear in the publication. It is not unusual for a given author to use various names or pseudonyms. You may find it useful to use the links in my welcome message on your talk page to learn more about how to develop Wikipedia. [edit]Hi, you marked Marie Bohlen as reviewed, but it was extremely closely paraphrased from its first source[1]. Furthermore, none of the sources were independent (3 times Greenpeace, which she cofounded, and one time an organisation honouring the people who left them money in their will). [edit]Just a short note to let you know my editing time is now pretty limited as a result of increasing family responsibilities. I will try to continue responding to mentors and to any other specific requests but will probably have little time for anything else. Thank you all for showing interest in my contributions and helping me along over the years. Contributing to Wikipedia has been a rewarding experience which I highly recommend to aspiring editors.--Ipigott (talk) 11:34, 9 June 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for letting us know. I'd noticed you'd been less active for a while, and not producing a lot of content like you used to. Hope you're well personally too. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:03, 9 June 2025 (UTC)
- I actually haven't had time to work on new articles for almost a year now. I'm in very good health myself but my wife who turned 80 last year needs a lot of care and attention. We intend to spend the summer here in Denmark. I hope you, Dr. Blofeld, are also enjoying life and are progressing well with you interests in music and languages. I always remember the time about 25 years ago when you let me know my articles about places in Luxembourg were progressing so well. That triggered my interest in going further. It's been great enjoying a relationship with you over the years and I hope it will continue.--Ipigott (talk) 13:29, 9 June 2025 (UTC)
- Dear Ipigott,
- Just a little note to wish you strength as you support your wife...and to wish you an enjoyable summer in Denmark. Your first welcome message when I joined Wikipedia and your ongoing support and help since then has been absolutely fundamental to my doing anything on Wikipedia...as I now support my husband who is not well! Thanks for everything and hope things go well and gently for you and your family. Balance person (talk) 08:20, 11 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Balance person: Thank you for your concern. And all the best to you and your husband. I you are both able to enjoy the summer too.--Ipigott (talk) 08:53, 11 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Ipigott Hallo Ian, I'd been meaning to reply ever since reading your message above. Best wishes to you and your wife. You're one of Wikipedia's valuable editors, so I hope you'll find the time and energy for a few edits from time to time. PamD 20:35, 23 June 2025 (UTC)

Question from PepsiSardines (02:21, 15 June 2025)
[edit]Hi! I saw that you were my assigned mentor. My goal is to write an article of my own soon. I started by making minor edits, and then I made a major edit to the Banco Nacional de Costa Rica page by writing the history section. I was wondering if I can receive some feedback on that page? I greatly appreciate it.
I am bilingual Costa Rican-American with interest in Aviation and Business. Nice to meet you. --PepsiSardines (talk) 02:21, 15 June 2025 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) @PepsiSardines A couple of formatting points: references go after punctuation; use straight quotes/apostrophes, not curly or slanted ones; section headings use "sentence case", ie only capitalise first letter of heading and any proper nouns. I haven't read your edit thoroughly enough to comment on the content, but it looks good. Thanks for improving the encyclopedia. PamD 04:27, 15 June 2025 (UTC)
- Also, no space between refs. I've fixed one instance of each problem, and I leave the rest to you to fix. Thanks. PamD 04:32, 15 June 2025 (UTC)

Important Luxembourg topic
[edit]Ipigott, me old salt. Long time no speaky. Glad to find you still editing.
I have created a new page, History of Luxembourg (1984—present), part of what I plan to be a series (including "Interwar Luxembourg" and "Postwar Luxembourg (1945-1984)", to fill what I see as a terrible gap in WP content on Luxembourg history.
As you are interested in Luxembourg topics and have made insightful suggestions in the past, I'd be much obliged for any suggestions / edits to improve it, if you have the time. (Working on an article for a while, one loses sight of the trees for the forest)
Happy editing! Dr Gangrene (talk) 16:54, 25 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Dr Gangrene: It's good to see you are developing articles on Luxembourg's history. Although I've lived in Luxembourg since 1973, I'm no expert in that particular field. Allyson Williams
[edit]Dear Ipigott,
I see you are doing a bit of work today! I hope all is going well in Denmark under sunny skies. PamD has been helping me with a draft page at User: Balance person/Allyson Williams (midwife) I wonder if you might take a look too and see what you think? We are waiting to see if we can get another reference for the honoraroy MBE but I wonder if the autobiography citation is enough? Anyway, if you think it is okay as it is, I will move it and do the categories etc. Only if you have the time of course! Balance person (talk) 09:05, 27 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Balance person: I've had a quick look at the article. As it is well sourced, I suggest you move it to mainspace where you can continue to make improvements. I find the long string of her activities in the first line of the lead rather overwhelming. I suggest your shorten the list to key positions and include the others in the body of the article. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 09:23, 27 June 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for your suggestion which I have followed. I am not quite sure why but I seem not to be able to see 'move' in the options for the draft article. I only have 'submit for review'. This is different from usual! So, I will do that and hope that you might catch it somewhere if you see it? Thanks as ever for your help. Balance person (talk) 10:16, 27 June 2025 (UTC)
- Oh! Found it! I have moved it now to main space! Balance person (talk) 10:20, 27 June 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks very much for reviewing it! Balance person (talk) 10:43, 27 June 2025 (UTC)

Stege Town Hall
[edit]Hi Ipigott. Back in October 2023, you uploaded a photo of Stege Town Hall as it stands after the renovation. I noticed that it had disappeared from the infobox and wanted to reinsert it but it seems to have disappeared from Wikipedia Commons. From the edit history of the Stege Town Hall page, I can see that it was removed from the infobox by Filedelinkerbot in November 2023. Do you know what this is all about and if the file can be found or recreated?Ramblersen2 (talk) 09:25, 28 June 2025 (UTC)
- Ramblersen2: I am sorry to see the file has disappeared. Thnks for letting me know.I do not know anything about it. As I am on Møn at the moment, I can no doubt provide a new photo within a day or two. The town gate, Møllerporten, has also been restored. Perhaps it also deserves more coverage with a photo.--Ipigott (talk) 12:06, 28 June 2025 (UTC)
- I have now started a Mølleporten article. Any help with improving the article or getting up-to-date photos will of course be greatly appreciated (otherwise it will just have to do with the one from before the renovation for now).Ramblersen2 (talk) 09:24, 29 June 2025 (UTC)

Kafka's birthday again, 12 years after the one with the Google doodle. I admire the flowers for blooming although it looks dry. It took a week to get the composer of Mission: Impossible to the main page. The concert I listened to was remarkable, pic added to the performer. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:58, 3 July 2025 (UTC)
Check out my talk, - if you have little time, listen to Gilda Cruz-Romo in the final scene of Aida, If you have more read her article, and if you have still more check out my music, some sung with me in choir, some played by friends, all heard with friends. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:56, 8 July 2025 (UTC)

- Today is Bastille Day, commemorated by a DYK as my "story" and a visit to the Bastille Opera in "music". I like the interview coming with the story, on the day before the big event, but for pomp and circumstance, the affair with 600 singing children and orchestra, and the singer dressed in the national flag, was also captured on videos, much slower. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:56, 14 July 2025 (UTC)
- Check out places for a great smile, - he had just stepped in to play Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 2, successfully! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:18, 18 July 2025 (UTC)

- Three of "my" recent deaths bios are on the main page right now, one my story today, Gary Karr, and I loved to find his breakthrough concert in 1962 as a video. In my music today I match it with 9 other double bassists, 7 conducted by a person who's birthday is today - coincidence ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:06, 23 July 2025 (UTC)

Ageing Without Children
[edit]Hell Ipigott. Me again. I hope you are doing well. I have drafted and then had help with User: Balance person/Ageing Without Children (AWOC) (although I am advised that the initialism should not be part of the title.) Although it is not strictly speaking a 'women in red' article, it is very pertinent as many women are carers without having carers in later life themselves. If you had time to look at it ...and no hurry at all...., I would enjoy your suggestions. If you thought it good enough, I would then move it, add categories, and make sure it was not an orphan.... But if you are busy, please just say. Thanks! Balance person (talk) 16:24, 6 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Balance person: Looks to me as if it is ready for mainspace. Make sure you include redirects from the former name and the two sets of initials. "Webinar" should probably be wikilinked.--Ipigott (talk) 10:36, 7 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Ipigott Thank you very much for taking a look. We are due power cuts today and I have never done a redirect before so I will learn about it tomorrow /Tuesday and give it a try. I will message you when I have, if that is okay, just in case I make a mess! Balance person (talk) 12:02, 7 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Balance person Redirects are a really helpful part of Wikipedia, and I encourage you to create them whenever you create an article for someone/something which can be known by another name. They help the reader find what they want, and they also help avoid another editor accidentally creating an article at a different version of the name. Looking at a few of your contributions, I notice I created Sally Stackhouse, but Fran Buss is missing, and Rita Williams needed a bit more fiddling around which I've just done (if the title you plan to redirect is already in use, you need to create a hatnote or a dab page, depending: AWOC should probably be a dab page.)
- The info at Help:Redirect looks useful and it shows how to create a redirect using various different editing interfaces. Good luck in your learning journey! PamD 13:05, 7 July 2025 (UTC)
- @PamD Hello again. I have read the redirect help page for Visual Editing so that I can do a redirect from Fran Buss to Fran Leeper Buss as you suggested. But I don't understand. Fran Buss is not a page so how can I redirect it to Fran Leeper Buss? Redirect instructions only seem to be from a page that does exist to another one that does exist. Thus I also cannot see how I can do a redirect from AWWOC to AWOC (neither of which exist as pages yet). Sorry to be thick. I am trying to understand!
- Anyway, I will go ahead and work on moving the Ageing without Children page this morning. Thanks so much for trying to help me! Balance person (talk) 08:21, 8 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Balance person I'll reply on your talk page, to save Ian's from clutter! PamD 13:02, 8 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Ipigott I have gone ahead and moved Ageing Without Children to main space while still trying to understand the business of redirects which PamD is helping me with! I am a slow coach! But if you happen to spot the new page, I would be grateful to you in the meantime in case there are other things I've done wrong. Thanks. Balance person (talk) 08:39, 8 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Ipigott Thanks so much for your speed and acceptance! Balance person (talk) 09:48, 8 July 2025 (UTC)

Dear, @Ipigott! I created the article Shevanti Mangeshkar but a user has marked it for speedy deletion. I would like to clarify that the subject is notable.
Shevanti Mangeshkar (d. 1995) was the mother of Indian playback singer Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle one of the most celebrated artists in the history of Indian music. 🌟 𝒯𝐻𝐸 𝐵𝒪𝒮𝒮! 07:52, 7 August 2025 (UTC)

- Hi there, The BO77!. The problem seems to be that she is not notable for any achievements of her own.--Ipigott (talk) 10:01, 7 August 2025 (UTC)
- @The BO77! The correct way to object to the speedy deletion is to click on the big blue button and then explain on the talk page why you think the article should not be deleted. As you haven't done this, and are a relatively inexperienced editor, I have done this for you to stop the article from disappearing in the next few hours. But you now need to address the concern, by finding more to say about her. I notice that she is mentioned by name, but with no further information about her, in both Mangeshkar family and Deenanath Mangeshkar, suggesting that past editors have not found much to say about her. Good luck. But another time, click on the blue button yourself if you want to contest a nomination for Speedy Deletion. Thanks. PamD 08:44, 7 August 2025 (UTC)
- @The BO77! You might also make life easier for other editors if you used a signature which shows the spelling of your user name. I see that Ian has accidentally pinged a quite different editor in his reply, and this is likely to happen repeatedly. Yes, the rules "allow" your signature to differ from your username, and some very well-respected and long-established editors do have signatures like that, but it complicates life for the rest of us and may mean that you miss out on communications intended for you. PamD 08:47, 7 August 2025 (UTC)
- Sir, @PamD! Thanks for the suggestion i understand how a clearer signature can help avoid confusion.🌟 𝒯𝐻𝐸 𝐵𝒪𝒮𝒮! 03:30, 8 August 2025 (UTC)

Thank you for the article! - The last three stories were Bach's Mass in B minor (because I heard it), and two women, including the above! I found an interesting dissertation. I wonder if we should add more from it to the article? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:28, 9 August 2025 (UTC)
Today a great singer, pictured on my talk twice. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:22, 17 August 2025 (UTC)
Today's story - short version: ten years ago we had a DYK about a soprano who sang in concerts with me in the choir, - longer: I found today a youtube of an aria she sang with us then, recorded the same year, - if you still have time: our performances were the weekend before the Iraq war ultimatum, and we sang Dona nobis pacem (and the drummer drummed!) as if they could hear us in Washington. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:08, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
Check out my talk for an Independence day, or: the pic of Oksana Lyniv was taken on 24 August. There's listening and reading in today's story, and I like both. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:06, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
On top of my talk: birthday of a great violinist and Requiem for a great friend. We sang Paradisi gloria from the Stabat Mater in the end. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:03, 31 August 2025 (UTC)

Brenda Emmanus
[edit]Dear Ipigott, I hope your summer is being okay. I have worked on a page User: Balance person/Brenda Emmanus. I was surprised that she did not have a page already as many of the people she works with already do....anyway...! I wondered if you would kindly have a look to see if you think the page is up to snuff or not. If you think so, I could then move it and add categories etc. She would not be an orphan as she is mentioned on other wiki pages and I have red linked her on them. No hurry at all of course. Thanks if you can! Balance person (talk) 11:21, 13 August 2025 (UTC)
- Balance person: Looks good to me. Well researched with lots of sources. Please move to mainspace.--Ipigott (talk) 12:57, 13 August 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks very much! I have moved it and added some categories now. Balance person (talk) 13:25, 13 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hello again Ipigott, Seems like people have helpfully made lots of links to the new Brenda Emmanus page. I notice that it is not yet rated. Do you usually do that? Does it matter if it is not yet rated? Maybe that is something that happens later on? Please excuse my ignorance! Balance person (talk) 09:06, 14 August 2025 (UTC)
- Dear Ipigott,
- Thanks very much for reviewing the Emmanus page! I just wondered if it matters that it has not been classified/assessed yet i.e no C or B or Start attached to it. Maybe that doesn't matter? Have a nice Sunday. Balance person (talk) 08:05, 17 August 2025 (UTC)
- OOOPS! I see it now has a letter attached to it! Sorry I bothered you! Balance person (talk) 08:07, 17 August 2025 (UTC)
Draft:Lindsay Levin
[edit]Hi @Ipigott! I found you on the Wikiproject Women page and I was hoping you could assist me in reviewing a page of a businesswoman, Lindsay Levin. I believe she is notable (and have the sources to prove it). I would so appreciate it if you could weigh in on the discussion on the draft's talk page. I'd really appreciate your opinion, and I think this case illustrates why women are so underrepresented on Wikipedia. All best, Viljowf (talk) 09:40, 15 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi there, Viljowf, and thanks for getting in touch. You seem to be making good progress on Leven but as several reviewers have suggested improvements, I think it would be useful if you followed their advice. In particular, the article is still rather promotional and I therefore suggest you should tone it down further. You should also avoid including references closely associated with the subject, for example those on TED. I was also rather surprised to see there was no article on TED Countdown although there is a brief mention under TED (conference). You'll find further tips in the Women in Red essay on Ten Simple Rules. Please try to improve the article further and let me know when I should take a new look. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 12:39, 18 August 2025 (UTC)

- @Ipigott Sir, Thanks for considering it.🌟 𝒯𝐻𝐸 𝐵𝒪𝒮𝒮! 20:05, 22 August 2025 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) @The BO77! I looked at your most recent creation Robert Houston Curry, and moved it back to draft as it does not give any information about him except that he was born, was a farmer , moved, and died: nothing of encyclopedic interest. Googling suggests he may have been a politician: without that, I would have proposed it at AfD. PamD 08:24, 20 August 2025 (UTC)

- I am confident that I can improve and expend this article. 🌟 𝒯𝐻𝐸 𝐵𝒪𝒮𝒮! 08:26, 20 August 2025 (UTC)
- So please improve it in draft space, instead of moving it to mainspace in its current state. I checked that you had made later edits to other articles so were not still actively working on this one. You simply have not said why he should be in an encyclopedia: yes, there are two sources, but to genealogical sites which include information on many people who are only interesting as someone's ancestor, not to readers of a general international encylopedia. Question from TheAnonAmos (08:06, 24 August 2025)
[edit]Hello, I want to write an article about by church HACFO (www.hacfo.org) how do I do it? --TheAnonAmos (talk) 08:06, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi TheAnonAmos! It looks like Ipigott is active, but I've responded to many users who were asking about the very same activity, so I thought it might be helpful to respond with the information that I typically give to users who are trying to do the same thing as you are now.
- I advise and highly recommend that you review and understand Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines, as well as Wikipedia's neutral point of view and no original research policy pages before you continue doing anything.
- In short, creating or contributing to articles about subjects that you have a personal conflict of interest with are highly discouraged activities on Wikipedia, and I don't recommend that you spend any of your time time doing these things at all. This is in part due to the fact that writing content that you have a conflict of interest with and in a manner that reflects a neutral point of view is nearly impossible, and "citing yourself" as the source with any content you write isn't allowed on Wikipedia. Users and patrollers will see the page you create and will quickly notice the issues regarding Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines. To put this situation into a perspective for you: Of of the 100 articles I've seen users create about subjects that they have conflicts of interest with, I'll easily say that all of them usually end up being deleted. I just don't want you to be left feeling disheartened nor let you spend hours of time for all of it to go completely wasted when the article is eventually deleted. Instead, I recommend that you focus your time and effort toward improving existing articles in topics or subject areas that interest you.
- To answer your question: If you become interested in creating a new article about a subject that doesn't involve yourself or a subject that you have a personal conflict of interested with, I recommend that you use the articles for creation process and follow the instructions and directions that are provided for you there. This page will help you with creating a draft article that you can use. Creating a new article in as a draft will be helpful and useful to you, because article drafts allow you all of the time that you'll need to construct the article, write content and add references to reliable sources, and make changes and improvements as you continue researching the subject. When you're ready publish your draft, you'll be able to submit it for review, and (assuming no issues are found) a reviewer will publish the article by moving it to the article mainspace for you.
- Also, since you're brand new to Wikipedia, I highly recommend that you go through Wikipedia's getting started page and that you complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial before you make any edits or take on any major tasks around here. Those tutorial pages will provide you with many important walkthroughs, guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will familiarize you with our policies and guidelines, how Wikipedia works, how to navigate around the site, and how to find important locations and pages. Most users who take this advice, read through those pages, and complete the new user tutorial usually tell me later that they were significantly helpful to them, and saved them hours of time and frustration they would've experienced otherwise.
- If you have any questions or need additional assistance, please let me know and I'll be more than happy to help. ;-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:13, 24 August 2025 (UTC)

Aalborg
[edit]Hi, can we wrap this up sometime and answer on the talk page. Do we need to further update the politics section? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:56, 9 September 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for alerting me, Dr. Blofeld. I appreciate the efforts you have made to update the Aalborg article. Unfortunately I am no longer able to spend the time necessary on articles such as this but if you can let me know on the talk page what critical aspects still need attention, I'll see what I can do. You may be aware that there are communal elections in Denmark in a few weeks. Changes in Aalborg, e.g. as regards the mayor, will no doubt need attention. There may be useful indications on the DA wiki. As far as I can see, there is no longer any mad rush to progress on this. I now spend most of my editing time trying to encourage new Wikipedians, especially those interested in covering women. Hope you are managing to lead an interesting and rewarding life. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 15:40, 9 September 2025 (UTC)

Have submitted my first article
[edit]Hi! I just completed my first article and have submitted it for review. Fingers crossed!
It was a lot of fun to research and write. If you have the time, I would appreciate some feedback on how it might improve. My main issue is that I was not certain if photos of my subject were still in copyright, so I did not insert any.
Thank you!
Mozitor (talk) 21:17, 16 September 2025 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) @Mozitor I had a look out of curiosity. Thanks for creating this draft article, but I can see a few ways to improve it:
- Use bold for the first mention of the topic in the text of the article, in what's called the lead paragraph.
- punctuation goes before references, not after
- there seems a discrepancy between text and infobox about his birthplace
- his university seems to be the blue linked St. Lawrence University, not the red linked version you've got
- and his cemetery can be linked as Lincoln Cemetery (Cook County)
- you've got a group of URLs listed in the "references" secbut no {{reflist}}. The first "bare URL" I checked appears as ref 24. You don't need to show those bare URLs.
- Don't use "big" and "bold" on section headings: just stick with the hierarchy of formatting provided by the different levels of headings. And remember that only the first word, or proper nouns, in a section heading is capitalised, so "Public Reaction and Legacy" should be "Public reaction and legacy".
- I haven't read the main body of the article, but just noticed these various formatting and linking issues which could be improved. There's a lot to learn about editing Wikipedia, but it's an interesting journey. Bon voyage! PamD 22:49, 16 September 2025 (UTC)
- Oh, one more point: when you post about a specific article, as you did here, it's a courtesy to other readers to link to the article so they don't need to go and look at your contributions list to find it! This one is Draft:Octavius C. Granady, for the benefit of Ian and other editors! PamD 22:51, 16 September 2025 (UTC)
- I'm also seeing red error messages for some of your refs because the date formats are invalid: see MOS:DATE for full detail, but basically dates should have the month spelled out ("September") rather than abbreviated ("Sept"), and the only acceptable all-numerical format is 2025-09-16. PamD 22:56, 16 September 2025 (UTC)
- On the university: there are redirects from Saint Lawrence University and St Lawrence University (ie UK spelling of "St" without full stop): where you went wrong was to include "The" in your link. It's rarely included except in titles of books, films etc: only in cases where "The" is almost always capitalised when the organisation is written about. Here "The" does not seem to be part of the name of the uni. PamD 23:02, 16 September 2025 (UTC)

PamD 22:56, 16 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hi PamD, I have made the suggested revisions. Also, another question: I wrote the article on the fly... is it possible to delete my history of revisions before the article is published, or is it too late?
- Thank you. Mozitor (talk) 14:09, 19 September 2025 (UTC)

Women in Green's 9th Edit-a-thon
[edit]
Hello Ipigott:
WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Editathon event in October 2025!
Running from October 1 to 31, 2025, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) editathon event with the theme What Women Do! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 different occupations or professions (or broader roles in society) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.
We hope to see you there!

Question from MynameisnotDwight (17:27, 23 September 2025)
[edit]Hello,
While going through recent changes I noticed an unreferenced date of death was added by an IP editor to the article Richard Moe. Instead of removing it immediately I wanted to see if there was a source I could add for the claim. I could only find this Substack post: https://www.politicswarroom.com/p/dick-moe-a-model-public-citizen. It seems to confirm at least the approximate date of death, but since it's technically a self-published blog post I'm not sure what to do. It's published by notable journalist Al Hunt who seems to know the subject personally. I'm a bit confused since under any other circumstance I feel it'd be accepted but BLP policy specifically states: "Never use self-published sources—including but not limited to books, zines, websites, blogs, podcasts, and social network posts—as sources of material about a living person, unless written or published by the person themselves. 'Self-published blogs' in this context refers to personal and group blogs."
Is the source still not acceptable, even if it's a blog self-published by a notable expert with thousands of subscribers? I'm new to finding sources so I'd also appreciate tips on finding a better source if it isn't acceptable. Thanks, MynameisnotDwight (talk) 17:27, 23 September 2025 (UTC)
- Evidently the IP editor did not format their edit correctly so it's not showing up on the infobox, but my question remains. Thanks. MynameisnotDwight (talk) 20:11, 23 September 2025 (UTC)
- MynameisnotDwight: Generally speaking, blogs are not considered to be acceptable sources. A better source would be an obituary published in a recognized newspaper or journal.--Ipigott (talk) 08:21, 27 September 2025 (UTC)
