Number Articles

[edit]

Some editors have high standards of notability for numbers in the 200s. I have a lower standard and am willing to accept reasonably well-sourced drafts with interesting information. If anyone tags any of the articles that I have accepted, please let me know. Robert McClenon (talk) 06:23, 15 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Robert McClenon was:
It says: "267 is the number for several highways ..." Is this still correct after the number is changed to 294? It probably doesn't matter here, but Mexican area codes are within the country code of 52 for Mexico, while US and Canadian area codes are within the country code of 1 for North America.
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved.

Make sure you add references that meet these criteria before resubmitting. Learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue. If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.
The comment the reviewer left was:
Based on WP:NUMBER#Integers, I don't think that 279 is notable enough for its own article. The Waring conjecture property is interesting, but you'll need three to meet the criteria. The digital sum/product relationship might count as interesting. There are many odd composites of two primes, so that's not interesting.
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved.

The comment the reviewer left was:
This draft, as written, does not appear to indicate that the appropriate notability criterion is satisfied. In particular, this draft does not appear to indicate that WP:NNUMBER is satisfied. If one of the criteria is satisfied, please revise this draft appropriately, with a reliable source, if necessary stating on the talk page or in AFC comments which criterion is met, and resubmit. It is the responsibility of the submitter to show that a subject satisfies a notability criterion.

You may ask for advice about the notability criteria at the Teahouse.

In particular, see and refer to WP:NNUMBER for notability, which is the guideline that the subject should be evaluated against.

In my opinion, being an even composite number is not significant, because being a composite number is not significant. The 11115 is not significant because you could always diddle around with any number to get something like that. So that leaves two interesting properties.
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved.

In my opinion, only two of the mathematical properties are interesting, because every non-prime number is composite, and every sphenic number is composite, and having three prime factors isn't unusual in the hundreds range.

See comments of User:Johannes Maximilian and User:Tagishsimon. I concur that there appears to be synthesis amounting to original research. I am changing the rejection to a decline. This draft will only be accepted if you can find reliable sources that have other comments about this base, but I don't like to reject good-faith submissions.
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved.

Hello, I'm Materialscientist. I noticed that in this edit to 290 (number), you removed content without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Materialscientist (talk) 22:10, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Consistency

[edit]

Please be consistent when requesting number articles for creation. You named some of these with a capital 'N' (e.g. 287, 285, 265 (Number)), which causes someone down the line to create that page plus the page with the lower case 'n' and a redirect from the first page to the second. And now we have some random number pages with that have a similar named page with a capital N, and just contain a redirect, while the vast majority don't. Of course that don't break anything, it just takes space for no reason. Thanks. I dont understand why this article keeps getting rejected. Like a grand majority of the number articles before it, the significance of the number is not the most important part. It is the significance of the types of numbers that it is. The bench mark for this is shown on the significane of numbers page where it mentions "Have authors wrote books or sections of books on this type of number?" And "Do websites like Marhworld have articles about this type of number?" It is the type of number that is significant and the conbination of these types of numbers is what makes this number special. I have several sources about these types of numbers and it is unrealistic to find the significance of the primeness of 307. ReyP02 (talk) 02:06, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Significa liberdade was:
This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.
The comment the reviewer left was:
For a Wikipedia article about a person to be published, that person must be notable according to Wikipedia's guidelines. A person is notable if there is significant coverage about that person in several independent, reliable sources.
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved.

According to Wikipedia's notability guidelines for numbers, a number may be notable if there are "at least three unrelated interesting mathematical properties of this integer".

Source 2 ( "Sequence A002378") indicates it's an oblong number, and Source 4 ( "Sequence A005114") indicates it's an untouchable number.

Sources 5 ("Sequence A115981") and 6 ("Bipartite graphs") cite 303 as having a unique property. Sources 1 ( "Facts about the integer"), 2 (Harminc & Sotak), 3 ("Sequence A001358"), 4 ("Properties of Semi-Primes"), and 7 (Salvatore) do not specifically mention the number 303.

Make sure your draft meets one of the criteria above before resubmitting. Learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue. If the subject does not meet any of the criteria, it is not suitable for Wikipedia.
The comment the reviewer left was:
Well done on creating the draft, and it may potentially meet the relevant requirements (including WP:GNG, WP:ANYBIO, WP:NPROF) but presently it is not clear that it does. As other reviewers have noted, Wikipedia's basic requirement for entry is that the subject is notable. Essentially subjects are presumed notable if they have received significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject. To properly create such a draft page, please see the articles ‘Your First Article’, ‘Referencing for Beginners’ and ‘Easier Referencing for Beginners’. Also, if you have any connection to the subject, including being paid, you have a conflict of interest that you must declare on your Talk page (to see instructions on how to do this please click the link). Please familiarise yourself with these pages before amending the draft. If you feel you can meet these requirements, then please make the necessary amendments before resubmitting the page. It would help our volunteer reviewers by identifying, on the draft's talk page, the WP:THREE best sources that establish notability of the subject. You may also wish to leave a note for me on my talk page and I would be happy to reassess. As I said, I do think this draft has potential so please do persevere!
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved.

Your recent article submission has been rejected. If you have further questions, you can ask at the Articles for creation help desk or use Wikipedia's real-time chat help. The reason left by Rusalkii was: This topic is not sufficiently notable for inclusion in Wikipedia. The comment the reviewer left was: I am not seeing any improvment regarding notability in your recent edits. Please do not resubmit without addressing the stated issues - we can't have a page on every single number, so this is the line drawn.

The Other Fields trivia refer to Highway 301. Please verify that the highways really are 305. I am almost ready to accept this draft and to allow the question of notability to be thrashed out at AFD, but we can't allow typos to confuse things.

I have no idea what the fourth bullet point means. What are compositions of 10, and what is meant by viewing them in a stack? Please provide links to explain what is meant. Your submission at Articles for creation: Septenary numeral system (December 14)

[edit]
Your recent article submission has been rejected. If you have further questions, you can ask at the Articles for creation help desk or use Wikipedia's real-time chat help. The reason left by DoubleGrazing was: This topic is not sufficiently notable for inclusion in Wikipedia. The comment the reviewer left was: Echoing the earlier reviewers, I'm sorry but I'm just not convinced that this is a 'thing'. The fact that there are seven days in a week, and seven natural notes in an octave, and someone has found 'strange affinity' with seven in the Bible, does not a numeral system make. It is the very definition of WP:SYNTH that one takes unconnected bits from different sources, and comes up with something that none of the sources actually support.

I'm happy to reconsider if the author can produce three solid sources squarely meeting the WP:GNG standard, which each, in and of its own, explicitly discuss the concept of 'septenary numeral system' in significant extent and detail. (And then, rewrites this draft to only summarise what those sources say, without added conjecture.) Until then, I am rejecting this.
