The Life of a Showgirl

[edit]

Hi, sorry for coming again. How about rephrasing your original hook, and adding that the YouTube premiere crashed? Also, that you have not used the name, how about linking the actual page like [[New Heights|sports podcast]]? Thank you! M. Billoo 12:36, 15 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I quite purposefully haven't linked the podcast because those interested can click the bold link and follow it to the podcast. I like to keep my hooks short, so perhaps the crashed thing can be a new hook? Also, I only replied at the nom last time because I was about to archive, and recommend that you comment further there.--Launchballer 13:17, 15 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Simon Tisdall redirect

[edit]

Hello. I only just noticed that 6 months ago you redirected the content at Simon Tisdall to the newspaper he works for (though he may have retired now, I believe he is 'just' a commentator rather than an editor). The article just before you redirected it (with the tags you added) is here. I agree with you that the article relied too much on The Guardian for its sourcing, but it feels wrong that Tisdall's article has been redirected compared to many of the other articles in Category:The Guardian journalists (over 400 of them). I have looked for independent sourcing and it is difficult to find as most search hits bring up his extensive portfolio of opinion pieces. I do not have the time to work on this further, but suspect that those who might have time to work on this are not aware that the article has been redirected (seeing a blue link, many people will assume the article is still there). Could I suggest that the article is restored to its tagged version so people can attempt to fix it, and that in lieu of me having the time to work on it that it be flagged at a suitable content noticeboard for attention? IMO, Tisdall is a prominent enough commentator that people will turn to Wikipedia to find out more about him. More widely, there may be a more systematic problem with Wikipedia articles on news journalists relying overly heavily on profiles from the organisations they have worked for. But in cases where someone has spent pretty much their entire career at the same newspaper, this may be an unavoidable issue. Can you think of a way to handle this that will get more eyes on this? I fear the redirect has obscured this, rather than solved it. Restoring the tagged version of the article would at least mean someone might work on this. Carcharoth (talk) 09:50, 28 September 2025 (UTC) Adding that I left a comment on the unredirected talk page here. Thanks. Carcharoth (talk) 10:16, 28 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, while dealing with prep 6, I kicked back Lynch Fragments as I'm still deciding what to do with it given Talk:Lynch Fragments/GA1. Hi there, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia! I wanted to remind you that when you draftify an article (e.g., Draft:2025 hunger crisis in Afghanistan), you should inform the article creator (and major contributing editors) about the draftification (per WP:DRAFTIFY). Failing to inform an editor that their work has been draftified can be very bitey and discourage new editors. If you typically notify through a script, you may want to double-check your work, especially regarding G15s. If you use a script other than MPGuy2824's MoveToDraft, I highly recommend switching as it is the most up-to-date. If you have any questions, comments, and/or concerns regarding this matter, please let me know. Take care, Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 18:47, 28 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Just in case you were curious about AV Club and Tilly Norwood

[edit]

An anon claimed in the edit logs for the Tyler Cowen page at https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Tyler_Cowen&diff=prev&oldid=1315206884 that the A.V. Club article was not a permissible source; as far as I can tell, the anon seemingly judged it solely by the article's title ("Can tech make an "AI actress" so fake that male columnists won't nut while writing about it?"). Despite the title being generally correct, I was unsure if that anon knew something that I didn't. If you think the source (https://www.avclub.com/ai-actress-tilly-norwood-columnists-drooling) is valid for the Tilly Norwood page, I could've reinstated that source on short notice. Dandelion Sprout (talk) 16:28, 5 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Dandelion Sprout: WP:AVCLUB is reliable at WP:RSP.--Launchballer 16:42, 5 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
My concern with the use of the source was primarily in the context of material being DUE for a BLP. I don't think it's a good idea to be using it in Tilly Norwood though ~ the piece seems to be written provocatively, and it's unclear to what extent humour is being deployed and how much the author is being sincere. I would like to see some earnest analysis of what he is saying, not a salacious, opinionated piece from an author who didn't read past the paywall bar, and who is pumping out a piece literally every hour on culture war adjacent pop culture topics. If we are writing conservatively about the views of BLPs, I do not accept that as good enough. 2405:6E00:280C:4EA7:7B59:E7B2:E41:DC5C (talk) 08:20, 6 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I just wanted to thank you for the idea to nominate Dianna Cowern for DYK. I proposed the name of the asteroid to the IAU, so I am not going to comment on the DYK nomination (I have a clear WP:COI in this case), but I'd be happy if the nomination passes! Page swap

[edit]

Hello! After your suggestion I download the script to move drafts without requesting speedy deletions, I did so and tried it on Draft:Full Nelson (Peacemaker). However, I've made an error and am unsure how to fix it. Safe to say I won't be trying that again. Are you able to help me out in fixing it? – Meena22:31, 13 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies. I may have done it right and jumped the gun. Are you still able to take a look and confirm either way? – Meena22:33, 13 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good. What the script doesn't do is retarget the redirect, but I did that.--Launchballer 03:53, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

DYK

[edit]

Hi, I've never used DYK before so I have no idea how it works, to comment etc. I received a notification today to say that you have suggested Did you know that Laura Kenny (pictured) is the most successful British female athlete in the history of the Olympic games? . I suggest adding with five Olympic gold medals because both Kenny and Charlotte Dujardin have six Olympic medals but Kenny has five golds and Dujardin has three, so Kenny is regarded the most successful because of this. Thanks. Canary757 (talk) 06:15, 15 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Canary757: To comment, you should be able to click 'comment' and edit the nomination that way. I have added your suggestion as an ALT.--Launchballer 12:25, 15 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Quick check

[edit]

I've rewritten an article from scratch (Hypnosis in fiction). How does that squre with DYK eligibility rules - not good? :( It's not 5x, more like 0.5x, b/c the old article was full of fancruft junk that needed to be removed (and then nothing was left... :P). Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 12:39, 16 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Piotrus: Oh, that's a 5x expansion alright; content in lists don't count towards the total per WP:DYKPROSE.--Launchballer 13:07, 16 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yay, tnx :) Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 13:16, 16 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Can I trouble you to take a look at similar case at Template:Did you know nominations/Mind control in popular culture where another editor disagrees it's 5x? (I malformatted a ping there, sorry) Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 05:02, 26 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for consideration of no personal medical condition on the main page. Having looked closer: I have my (known) problems with that (type of) hook, saying nothing about the person in question than that she sings and is from Indonesia. I haven't looked closer at the nom and the authors, and don't want to nag all the time, - just like to see more interesting things really about the subject. Many were born prematurely and still did something great, but what did she do? Sing. I quote "the only real nation is humanity" on my user page. - Compare Elsa Reger, a 2016 hook, which was sort of easy because she wrote an autobiography with a title that said it all ;) -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:52, 25 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
