Need help
[edit]Hello.
I tried to ask someone else, but they wouldn't respond. It's my first time ever nominating something for DYK so I actually don't know how to edit it. I'm also unsure as to how to address the "the meat of it doesn't check out" part and assumed this meant that my entry would be rejected. May I please have some guidance? Thank you. Bloomagiliw (talk) 17:56, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Bloomagiliw: Are you referring to your nomination at Template:Did you know nominations/Maharani (song)? If you click on that blue text, it will open the nomination where anyone can edit it. If you want to propose a new hook, just add "ALT1" followed by the new proposed hook. I suggest proposing multiple hooks (ALT2, ALT3, etc.) so that reviewers can pick the best one. Z1720 (talk) 21:33, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
- Okay, I can edit it now. But I'm struggling to understand this: "...the meat of it doesn't check out; the hook puts the claim in wikivoice while the article attributes."
- The hook is from a report about Billboard Philippines' charts, made by Billboard Philippines themselves. May I please know how to address the "the meat of it doesn't check out" bit? Bloomagiliw (talk) 21:53, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Bloomagiliw: I don't know the answer because I didn't write that comment. I would post that question in the nomination. Z1720 (talk) 01:32, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
Upcomgin GAR
[edit]Before you take down old GAs, what is the upcoming of GAs in mathematics? I am putting effort into some articles for improvement, but the randomness of your choice is unknown to me. Would you like to provide some, please? Also, I won't mind if you put the citation needed tags on the unsourced sections before GAR, as long as someone may have paid attention and can easily help to provide some.
Many thanks. Dedhert.Jr (talk) 08:20, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Dedhert.Jr: Thank you for nominating and improving mathematics articles. The GAR process exists to ensure that articles with the GA designation still adhere to the GA criteria. I nominate articles for GAR when concerned that the article does not meet the criteria. If you are interested in finding articles that might need some improvements, I suggest clicking on Wikipedia:Good article reassessment/Sweeps 2023, which lists older GAs with lots of uncited passages. I only add citation needed templates when asked because it is time-consuming and some editors view them as "disruptive". Let me know if there are articles that you would like me to review and add the citation needed templates to (if necessary). You can also install this script: User:Phlsph7/HighlightUnreferencedPassages.js, which is what I use to help find uncited passages in an article. Happy editing! Z1720 (talk) 15:35, 3 May 2025 (UTC)

Request for admin assistance
[edit]Hi. I am asking you just because your name was at the top of the "Recently Active Admin" tool, hope that's okay with you. I noticed this very suspicious user – DCAllStar – they are a brand new user, apparently created just to close an article move discussion, they know about tools like MovePlus – seems very likely a WP:SPA/sockpuppet. SomethingForDeletion (talk) 02:42, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
- @SomethingForDeletion: Unless you have an idea of who you think they are socking as, I don't think there's much that can be done here. If you think you know which editor is the sock master, I would file an WP:SPI. Z1720 (talk) 02:49, 13 May 2025 (UTC)

[edit]Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries/July 1: I wonder why you removed the centenary of Satie's death. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:27, 27 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: Erik Satie was featured on OTD on May 17, 2025. OTD tries not to have the same article featured multiple times in a year. Z1720 (talk) 18:15, 27 June 2025 (UTC)

- I also prefer birthdays, and its no big deal. This will allow Rhoda Delaval to shine even brighter. Z1720 (talk) 22:26, 27 June 2025 (UTC)
- I asked on classical music if we could make Satie a GA, short answer "no", and planned to make a composition GA, but the one who made the best step forward was blocked ... - in a way it matches Satie, sadly. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:45, 27 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: It might be too late to get it to GA status, for his birthday, but there is nothing stopping you from making improvements. I think Tim's reluctance about it is other editors adding POV cruft: if you make a good faith effort to add your own improvements, maybe you and Tim can work together to get it promoted. - I wish that was possible (and don't want to go into details of why I don't see it coming again). All I wanted to explain is: I went for mentioning him on his centenary day on DYK, but it didn't work, on two levels. Only then, frustrated already, did I place him on OTD. - I don't know if you followed that the same thing happening for Easter: GA and DYK nom Easter Oratorio for the 300th anniversary of the music, not successful in time (took seven more weeks), OTD nom, not successful because there's a rule (that it has to be the calendar date, not "Easter"). - I should stick with RD, right now Gertrud Leutenegger on the Main page, and there were only few days without highlighting a great person, for a sad reason but better than not at all. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 05:57, 28 June 2025 (UTC)
- While you are of course invited to check out my recommendations any day, today offers unusually a great writer of novels, music with light and a place with exquisite food. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:44, 28 June 2025 (UTC)

Hi Admin,
[edit]Hi,I’d like to raise some concerns regarding the articles Patu Keswani and Lemon Tree Hotels. The Patu Keswani article appears promotional in tone, lacks strong independent reliable sources, and fails to establish clear notability per Wikipedia guidelines. The page was originally created by User:Vivekkhanna123456, who appears to be a likely sockpuppet, raising red flags about possible conflict of interest or undisclosed paid editing. The associated article Lemon Tree Hotels, a company owned by Patu Keswani, also reads like a paid piece, with similar promotional language and sparse independent sourcing. I recommend a review for both articles regarding neutrality, notability, and sourcing, and to investigate the editing history for potential sockpuppetry or undisclosed affiliations. These may be suitable for tagging, cleanup, or even AfD (Articles for Deletion), depending on further review. Thanks for your time! AliveNull (talk) 18:47, 29 June 2025 (UTC)
- @AliveNull: Thanks for bringing up your concerns. I suggest that you bring these concerns to the appropriate noticeboards, as you will be able to explain the situation better than me. If you think this editor is a sockpuppet that is abusing our Sockpuppet policy, please report them to WP:SPI. If the concerns are COI related, please post on WP:COIN. Also, feel free to WP:BEBOLD and fix the promotional language you see in the article. If there's an article that would not pass Wikipedia's general notability guidelines, please WP:PROD them or send them to WP:AfD. Let me know if you have any questions and happy editing. If it does, and you still think this person doesn't meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines, please nominate it for AfD. Good Article Reassessments
[edit]Hi there. So, I noticed that of the ice hockey articles you put for reassessment, you place a notice on the talk page with your concerns. The article's watchers are retired, so if there are other articles in ice hockey that need an update, please let me or the project know. Conyo14 (talk) 02:39, 11 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Conyo14: Thanks for reaching out. I am reviewing all good articles and posting talk page messages to the ones that are furthest from the GA criteria. It is quite difficult to remember who to ping for each category, and some Wikiprojects don't like notices on their talk pages. Pinging and posting on Wikiproject talk pages takes time, and I don't want to do extra work if it will amount to nothing.
- If interested in fixing up ice hockey articles (or any group of articles) I recommend installing User:Phlsph7/ListUnreferencedParagraphs.js, then in the list paste the list of hockey GAs. This script will quickly review the articles for uncited text and other banners. Then, User:Phlsph7/HighlightUnreferencedPassages.js will highlight uncited text in an individual article. You can also watchlist articles that you are interested in so that your watchlist will alert you if someone posts on the article's talk page. I hope this helps articles improve. Question from ApokolipsNow1971 (16:41, 5 August 2025)
[edit]Hey there! I'm curious, what's your approach to finding articles to edit? What does most of your editing consist of? --ApokolipsNow1971 (talk) 16:41, 5 August 2025 (UTC)
- @ApokolipsNow1971: Hi, I usually edit articles where I have an interest, and keep editing an article until it doesn't interest me. I find articles by finding sources and books that might have information to add to the article. The articles I am most proud of are William Lyon Mackenzie, Types Riot and Flight Pattern. I also edit articles that have a good article designation but might not meet the GA criteria anymore. Z1720 (talk) 19:33, 5 August 2025 (UTC)

- Following a request for comment, a new speedy deletion criterion, G15, has been enacted. It applies to pages generated by a large language model (LLM) without human review.
- Following a request for comment, there is a new policy outlining the granting of permissions to view the IP addresses of temporary accounts. Temporary account deployment on the English Wikipedia is currently scheduled for September 2025, and editors can request access to the permission ahead of time. Admins are encouraged to keep an eye on the request page; there will likely be a flood of editors requesting the permission when they realize they can no longer see IP addresses.

A goat for you!

Came across WT:Good article nominations#Flawed process through today's inaugural Good Article Gazette and really dismayed by the attacks on your work. While a clear majority have come to your defense, I just want to send some appreciation for your GAR noms. I have never found your nominations to be lacking, and more importantly, you have always been receptive to the possibility that the nominated articles may require less changing than initially expected. With WP:Village pump (proposals)#RFC: Adding featured and good content status to the tagline showing significant community contempt for GAs as ignoring article deterioration, your work is all the more important to making the GA topicon worth something.
ViridianPenguin🐧 (💬) 16:22, 10 August 2025 (UTC)
- @ViridianPenguin: Love the goat! I think I am following community consensus on how GAR should be run, and I hope I am receptive to community feedback (that isn't a personal attack). I would love for others to comment on how the GAR can be improved (but I might disagree with their comments, and explain why!) and hope others will nominate and maintain GAs more frequently than before (though we are all volunteers). I read through the village pump proposal several days or weeks after it opened, and will take a read through it again soon: hopefully it will generate some ideas on how to improve the process even more. Z1720 (talk) 16:54, 10 August 2025 (UTC)
- Personally, I find the listing at WP:GAR, subject-sorted listing at WP:GAN, pre-nomination talk page thread, nomination talk page thread, and notifications to relevant WikiProjects sufficient to find GARs within my interest/knowledge, but there's always the possibility for improvement! ViridianPenguin🐧 (💬) 16:58, 10 August 2025 (UTC)
- @ViridianPenguin: I like the topic listing for GARs at GAN, too. I'm less thrilled with GAR sorting chronologically, but find it useful to determine which articles are nearing the one-month mark to be delisted. I wish there was a better culture on Wikipedia to maintain status articles: I think there is a sense of "done" editors experience when an article achieves a status, which prevents editors from returning to these articles to maintain them (which I also experience) and avoids GARs. I do not have ideas on how to prevent this "done" mentality. Z1720 (talk) 17:09, 10 August 2025 (UTC)
- I think that WP:WikiCup scoring communicates what the community values, and the fact that we award nothing to participation in GAR/FAR contributes to that "done" mentality. Wikipedia talk:WikiCup/Scoring#Good Article reassessments had Airship and Epicgenius attribute the current scoring to the difficulty of quantifying participation in GAR and the frequency of delisting, but I dispute that editors cannot be trusted to only self-award points when deserved for significant improvement that keeps the article's status. After all, Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring#Featured article candidate reviews & Featured list candidate reviews notes that points are only awarded in that category when the FAC/FLC review is high-quality.
- I think that awarding 20 points to significant GAR/FAR work makes sense because that's a little over half the points of a new GA and one tenth of a new FA. The community could workshop an appropriate value through further discussion though, perhaps giving distinct values to GAR and FAR work. However, as my work at legal history of cannabis in the United States is only my second GAR, I am not yet ready to propose that, but I would happily offer my support for such a change if you want to kick that off. - @ViridianPenguin: Not sure if a proposal like that would be well received coming from me: I probably benefit the most from that addition! One aspect to consider is the quality of the GAR/FAR. If I nominate an article with the reason cited as "uncited statements" and no one else comments, I do not think I deserve 20 points. I do not think I comment enough on most GARs to deserve 20 points, as I usually only check a few of the GA criteria before making my declaration. If GAR/FAR was added, the amount of comments in the review or edits to the article required to quality for points would need to be defined. Z1720 (talk) 17:39, 10 August 2025 (UTC)
- In my mind, the 20pts would only go to those doing significant editing of the article, rather than those giving guidance in the GAR nomination, but I recognize that this is imperfect, so I will work on some more GARs/FARs before I am ready to propose it. For example, WP:Featured article review/Bæddel and bædling/archive1 currently has Generalissima subjecting her article writing to a second round of FA review to make further improvements in the same year that it was promoted to FA. Should she get another 20pts if her second round of editing has it kept? Perhaps these edge cases should merely be dealt with as they arise as perfect is the enemy of good. - @ViridianPenguin: I like giving points to editors who make significant improvements to an article while it is at FAR/GAR. Z1720 (talk) 18:05, 10 August 2025 (UTC)

- @ViridianPenguin: I like the topic listing for GARs at GAN, too. Regarding 1998–99 Manchester United F.C. season
[edit]Hello! A while back you opened a GAR on that article, which was later delisted, citing 'uncited statements, including entire paragraphs'. I spent some time to (try) to improve the article with some various sources and added some missing content. I'm curious if it would bring it back to GA standard, so I'm asking for what you think. Thanks! (Article at 1998–99 Manchester United F.C. season) Alpha Beta Delta Lambda (talk) 21:22, 10 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Alpha Beta Delta Lambda: I added a citation needed tag to the article. I think some of the one-or-two sentence paragraphs in "Formation of Shareholders United" can be better formatted or merged together. Once these are resolved, I think this is ready for a GAN. Z1720 (talk) 21:30, 10 August 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks! I think I've fixed those problems now; I'll nominate it a bit later. Alpha Beta Delta Lambda (talk) 22:04, 10 August 2025 (UTC)
Energy Capital Partners, request
[edit]Hello Z1720. Encoded suggested I reach out for assistance from editors willing to review COI requests. I see you've worked on many Wikipedia articles; I would appreciate your assistance reinstating several portions of the Energy Capital Partners Acquisitions section. This material is all supported by reliable sources; Encoded, who originally added that content, isn't available to help at this time, but did indicate that it was worth a discussion. Thank you for your time and help, Californiabri19 (talk) 18:38, 12 August 2025 (UTC)
Hey. I have been reviewing and enhancing diving cylinder that you nominated for good article reassessment. I believe that with the restructuring and revisions in the last month, the article is again good for GA. I closed the reassessment. Cheers. Fred Hsu (talk) 03:26, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
