Question from Shamra12 (23:33, 21 September 2025)

[edit]

Hello! Wikipedia assigned you as my mentor. I'm new to editing and I have a quick question for you. I was updating the Xiamen International Center English language page but I needed to cite the same source in two different parts of the article and it made that source show up twice in the references section. Is there a way to cite the same source twice without duplicating it in References? Thank you so much for your help! --Shamra12 (talk) 23:33, 21 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, welcome to Wikipedia! Yes, using the cite tool there is a 'reuse' button that will allow you to select an item that you have already got in your article. This page has a full set of instructions and pictures. Hope this helps, Encoded  Talk 💬 18:37, 22 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Following up

[edit]

Hello, Encoded. A friendly heads up that I replied to the discussion on the Nick Szabo Talk page about cleaning up sourcing for the Education section. (And if you are interested in reviewing other biography articles, my colleague WWB Too has a request on the Garry Tan Talk page.) Thanks. Danilo Two (talk) 17:36, 23 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks for the message. I've just implemented the changes. I'll take a look at your colleague's request now. Thanks, Encoded  Talk 💬 21:14, 24 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Education Article in Draft Form

[edit]

hi @Encoded, you've helped with a few of our articles previously so I'm hoping you can assist here too. I submitted a Wiki for review on August 8th and there's been still no word on it coming out of draft form. Can you take a look whenever you have a moment? We'd greatly appreciate!

Draft:BASIS Independent Schools

NR12141988 (talk) 20:36, 23 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hey thanks for the message, and sorry for the delay. There's such a huge backlog in the AfC queue at the moment it's taking quite a while to get drafts reviewed.
I'm not going to accept or decline the draft because I'm on the fence on wording. Whilst I think the article is generally good certain aspects of it (for example BASIS Independent students participate in international service and cultural exchange initiatives as part of their broader educational experience and which emphasizes science and is intended to prepare students for global academic and professional competitiveness) come across as sounding slightly promotional. However, I also understand that they are facts.
They just sound to me like they're coming more from a prospectus rather than an encyclopaedia. I haven't gone through sourcing but from a glance looks fine. I'd also maybe move the standardised testing section into the history just so it's not being given undue weight, but the content of it is also fine. History & Academic competitions sections also fine from a wording standpoint.
If you wanted to get a second opinion feel free to leave it as it is, but if you wanted to reword them sections I'd be happy to continue with the review and accept providing the sourcing is good! Thanks, Encoded  Talk 💬 21:27, 24 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Encoded thank you! I updated the tone of those sections and moved Standardized Testing up to history. We would really appreciate if you could review and accept, or let us know what else is holding you back from accepting. Thank you! 108.16.231.139 (talk) 15:17, 25 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for letting me know, I should be able to review in an hour or two. Thanks, Encoded  Talk 💬 15:45, 25 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hey sorry I haven't had chance today and it's gotten quite late, I'll try and take a look tomorrow or over the weekend. Sorry for the delay! Encoded  Talk 💬 22:09, 25 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Afrahiqbal (22:11, 25 September 2025)

[edit]

Hi Encoded, thanks for reaching out and offering help! 😊 I’ve only been on Wikipedia for a few days, so I’m still learning the basics. Could you guide me on how to make small edits properly, and also how to add reference links with an edit? Another thing I’m curious about is how to check whether a source is valid and reliable enough for Wikipedia. --Afrahiqbal (talk) 22:11, 25 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Afrahiqbal, welcome to Wikipedia! I've popped a welcome message on your talk page with a whole host of information (don't worry about learning it all right away - there's a lot!). To make small edits properly the best advice I could give it to be bold, anything that's wrong can always be undone and it's the best way to learn. As long as you edit with good faith you'll be given advice not punishment!
Making good edits can be anything from fixing incorrect statements, to adding new facts. As long as it's reliably sourced and fits well in the article, it's good to go! Sometimes there might be disputes which should be talked about on that article's talk page.
You can also practice editing in your sandbox (click to create), which is a page where you can do whatever you want temporarily to try stuff out and learn how to use new tools. The rules that apply to the rest of the website (mostly) don't apply there.
For referencing, here's some useful tutorials:
- How to add references using VisualEditor
- How to edit existing references
- How to use references more than once
For valid and reliable sources, generally, reliable sources are those with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy. News organisations such as Reuters and the BBC are some good examples, whereas blogs and social media websites are considered unreliable. This page should help you out there. You can find more information at our reliable sources policy.
Hope this helps, and if you have any other questions please feel free to reach out - I'm here to help! Thanks, Encoded  Talk 💬 22:25, 25 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Edelman (firm), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Black Friday.

(Opt-out instructions.) --DPL bot (talk) 20:05, 27 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like the page has exceeded the post-expand include size. That'd be why new templates and pings are not working. Melted BrieASU (onward to victory · t · c) 21:04, 27 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up! If there's no more activity in a week or so I'll archive that discussion so there's no further issues. Thanks, Encoded  Talk 💬 17:30, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Education Article in Draft Form

[edit]

Hi @Encoded. Thank you for your help with our Basis Independent Wiki page. Can you help with our Chesterbrook Academy page? We've resubmitted our draft for review, but it's been sitting as well. We really appreciate your help. NR12141988 (talk) 01:58, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Appropriateness RE the See Also Section

[edit]

Hiya!

I've written one article, M. Laura Feltri, the late former director of the university department where I work (this is conflict of interest has been disclosed). Our department a "legacy page" for her (found here) which lists her awards, grants, a professional summary in her own words, etc. This page has not been cited in the article, but may be of interest for curious readers. Would this be appropriate to list in a See Also section? Additionally, it's my understanding that it's frowned upon to cite sources published by her department or university - is this the case?

Thank you! RileyRobbins (talk) 14:34, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @RileyRobbins, I'd recommend putting it in a new 'External Links' section below the references. That's typically for any links leaving Wikipedia, as See also is for other wiki pages.
It is frowned upon to cite sources published by a primary source, but not completely barred. You can use a primary source if it is reputably published, used to cite simple facts, and not "analyzed, evaluated, interpreted, or synthesized". Extra caution should be taken to check that everything that's being verified is actually explicitly said in the source and secondary sources should still make up the large majority of sources. If you have any further Qs or specific examples please let me know!
Hope this helps, Encoded  Talk 💬 17:29, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Robinhood Markets

[edit]

Hi Encoded. I'm hoping you could please have a look at an edit request I recently posted here: Talk:Robinhood Markets#Edits to History section. If you can review and implement , that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, BlueScope25 (talk) 15:42, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @BlueScope25, since the COI queue is so long at the moment with requests dating back to July, I'm currently working through it in date order in the interest of fairness to all. I should be down to yours by the end of the week if no other editors get there in the mean time. Apologies, Encoded  Talk 💬 17:24, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Edit Request Revisons

[edit]

Hi @Encoded, thank you for reviewing my COI edit request on Talk:Matthew Hoffman (TV host). Unfortunately it was declined, though I'd like to resubmit it based on the feedback provided. To resubmit this request, would it be best for me to submit a new request entirely, edit the existing one, or provide the edited information in a reply to the original request?

Thank you, MapleTrail92 (talk) 16:10, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @MapleTrail92, the easiest will probably be to edit the existing request. To re-add the request to the queue remove the parameters from the edit coi template. Thanks, Encoded  Talk 💬 16:33, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good, thank you MapleTrail92 (talk) 19:44, 2 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Sergeevich92 (14:30, 2 October 2025)

[edit]

Hello. I work for the company that develops drug buntanetap. I wanted to modify the information on Wiki because the current page is outdated and has wrong facts. I wrote a new article and provided links. It was reverted back to old version now. Why? --Sergeevich92 (talk) 14:30, 2 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Sergeevich92, welcome to Wikipedia. The edit in question was reverted due to Most of your references do not satisfy MEDRS and also fail verification. Discuss on article talk page before making edits again. Since you work for the company that develops the drug, you'll need to request the edits on the talk page. To do so, visit the edit request wizard. Hope this helps, Encoded  Talk 💬 16:19, 2 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
