Re: Western Motel

[edit]

Apologies for not addressing your comments directly, I was trying to do too many things. I would like to work on Western Motel and add your photos or videos. I suspect that some of them might meet freedom of panorama. I'll let you know where I am on this in a bit. Thanks for sharing the info. Viriditas (talk) 21:08, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Viriditas: Here are two video clips and two photos I took. (The video links will work for 48 hrs) I also have additional photos of other Hopper paintings from that exhibit. APK hi :-) (talk) 08:31, 27 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Got it. Very impressive. Viriditas (talk) 18:39, 27 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Among the numerous sources I saw in a quick Google search is this book. Not sure if it’s available at a library near you, but I thought it’s worth mentioning. APK hi :-) (talk) 08:35, 27 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I checked, but couldn't find it anywhere. Viriditas (talk) 19:18, 27 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know how committed you are, or what your time is like, but if you access to the book, feel free to contribute. Ideally, I want to see a frame from your image/video of the "hotel" room at the exhibition on commons, as I think it does meet FOP. I'm trying to work on counterarguments as to why it doesn't to contain the objections. Viriditas (talk) 19:27, 27 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I asked at the Commons help desk and awaiting a response. APK hi :-) (talk) 09:31, 28 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Frida Kahlo painting

[edit]

Hi APK! Had a quick question about a fair use image you uploaded a while back. I was just reading an article in Hyperallergic about works entering the public domain this year, and their reporter thinks that works by Kahlo ceased to be copyrighted this year. The licensing details on your photo of Kahlo's Self-Portrait Dedicated to Leon Trotsky has a public domain date for the United States of 2033. I was just wondering how you came to the 2033 date, and what the discrepancy might be - is that just an error, or is the Hyperallergic article missing something?

Thanks, and hope you're having a good new year! 19h00s (talk) 00:15, 2 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@19h00s: Happy New Year to you as well. The 2033 date was added by @DogeGamer2015MZT:. I'm not sure about the reasoning, but I'm not great at copyright laws when it comes to art. I just always err on the side of caution and quite a few photos I've uploaded as fair use have been changed to PD. If her works are now PD, I can reupload a higher resolution photo I took. APK hi :-) (talk) 04:49, 2 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The painting was published in 1937 so it remains copyrighted in the US until 2033, 96 years after publication, it is copyrighted in Mexico until 2055, 101 years after Kahlo's death. DogeGamer2015MZT (talk) 05:07, 2 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Ahhh that makes sense. Thank you both for the help! 19h00s (talk) 12:18, 2 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:They call me Redbone, but I'd rather be Strawberry Shortcake.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:They call me Redbone, but I'd rather be Strawberry Shortcake.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Adeletron 3030 (talkedits) 03:26, 12 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Linking an NRHP nom form

[edit]

Hello again. A while back you pointed me to DC Preservation League's Historic Sites website as a resource for finding newer NRHP nomination forms that aren't available digitally elsewhere. Well, I'm currently working on National Geographic Society Headquarters, and where other forms I've found on that site have been hosted on that site, this one is hosted on Dropbox. As regards linking to it from our article, that seems less than ideal for a number of reasons. Have you encountered this sort of thing before, and do you have any advice for how to handle it? Should I link to the DC Historic Sites page for the listing where the form is found? Link directly to the Dropbox file? Leave it unlinked as it is currently? Or some other solution I'm not considering? No rush at all, but I'd appreciate any suggestions you can give. Thanks! DrOrinScrivello (talk) 15:54, 3 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, that’s been an annoying bug I’ve dealt with on several articles. If you look at Titanic Memorial (Washington, D.C.), you’ll see how I’ve formatted the link by adding a note. On other articles it’s been mentioned some users found it confusing, but that’s the only solution I can come up with. APK hi :-) (talk) 01:08, 4 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply and the suggestion. Your workaround isn't perfect but it's also not the most inelegant thing I've seen, and it's better than leaving it unlinked. Works for me. Thanks again. DrOrinScrivello (talk) 16:06, 4 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know whether this is something you care about or not, but your photograph will be on the main page tonight and tomorrow, I thought I'd let you know. Thanks for your assistance and for taking a good pic! (As a postscript, this is how the GA reviewer for the article suggested I format the citation discussed above. They found it to be clearer this way, and they're probably right). DrOrinScrivello (talk) 16:15, 9 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
