Redirection of "Law enforcement in Ukraine"
[edit]Hello. Ten years ago you have erased the content of the article Law enforcement in Ukraine and redirected it to the article Ministry of Internal Affairs (Ukraine): diff. What was the reason to do so? Tohaomg (talk) 12:10, 6 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Tohaomg: Apologies for the delay in my reply. As you are aware, at that time, 'law enforcement in Ukraine' was being completely reorganised. The militia abolished, the National Police established...and our articles on the subject were in a right old state. Prior to my reorganisation, there was no independent article for the Ukrainian militsiya. The content was spread across law enforcement in Ukraine and Ministry of Internal Affairs (Ukraine). In order to make way for new content relating to the reorganised law enforcement scheme, I created Militsiya (Ukraine), and moved all content related to the former militia there. The article on the ministry was refocused on the its new role as a pure government department, and content related to the new police service was placed at National Police of Ukraine. At the time, there was no existing content for a seperate 'law enforcement of Ukraine' article, and so it was merged, as you saw. I can say that you have done a great job on the new article using that title. Thanks very much for improving our articles related to Ukraine! RGloucester — ☎ 11:47, 12 September 2025 (UTC)

Hello, I'm Zackmann08. Thank you for your recent contributions to Mitsui High-tec. When you were adding content to the page, you added duplicate arguments to a template which can cause issues with how the template is rendered. Bolding
[edit]It's minor, but the bolded text was based on Invasion of Poland, which was what I was working off of here. I think it's important to say "was" here, to be clear that we are talking about the events of 2022. FOARP (talk) 09:25, 25 September 2025 (UTC)
- @FOARP: Thank you for your message. Yes, I saw that in your edit summary, but it is not clear to me why the 'invasion of Poland' article should be treated as any kind of model. I think MOS:AVOIDBOLD is pretty clear on this point. It should be our goal to avoid redundant and clumsy wording; I reckon that even you may be able to admit that the text was a tad unwieldy. Think of the reader! RGloucester — ☎ 09:48, 25 September 2025 (UTC)
- One thing I'm starting to think you might have been right about: it might have been better to just write an article about the invasion de novo rather than use the draft. Whilst the draft already existed and was basically OK, making it a better article runs up against the very large amount of primary sourcing used to write it. FOARP (talk) 12:36, 26 September 2025 (UTC)
- @FOARP: At this point, there are more than enough good, academic sources with a military history focus chronicling the invasion. The ideal approach would be to use these, and abandon news sourcing altogether. This is what I would have suggested, had there have been a discussion on the matter. In days of yore, I would have been happy to contribute to such an article, but my access to good sources on Ukraine is somewhat diminished by my present locale. Never mind that I have no interest in getting involved in a 'contentious' folderol, which is what I know editing any such article will end up being. Don't think that I don't appreciate your efforts; I simply think of the reader, and the mess he will have to wade through to get to any information of relevance. Hello, RGloucester,
Please when you use your Page Mover tool, ALWAYS leave a redirect behind. By not doing so for this page move, you created dozens and dozens of broken redirects (it was 61 broken redirects to be specific). I do not know why page movers don't like to leave redirects behind when they move an article but it really messes things up. If you don't want to leave a redirect, then please check "What links here" and manualy correct all of the pages that are linked to the article you want to move. That would be a project that can keep you occupied for a few hours. Liz Read! Talk! 23:18, 26 September 2025 (UTC)
- @Liz: Good morning, and my most sincere apologies for having created more of a mess than had already been created. In my haste to resolve the debacle that had been imposed by one wayward editor, I failed to note that the 'Leave a Redirect' box was unchecked. Again, my deepest apologies, and thank you for your swift action on this manner. RGloucester — ☎ 00:19, 27 September 2025 (UTC)

Political status of Crimea
[edit]Hello RGloucester! I’ve noticed that you’ve made many edits to articles related to Ukraine and the events surrounding it. I wanted to ask you about the topic of the article Political status of Crimea. I’ve read it several times, and to me, it seems to focus mainly on Russian–Ukrainian relations concerning the Crimean Peninsula. Yet, the title suggests it should deal specifically with the political status of Crimea. The article is almost entirely composed of a historical section, while, as far as I know, there is an ongoing discussion within Ukrainian society — with the participation of Crimean Tatar activists — about Crimea’s constitutional status after its eventual liberation. The Crimean Tatar perspective on Crimea’s status also appears to be rather underrepresented in the current version of the article. Hassan697 (talk) 20:34, 20 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Hassan697: Good morning, and thank you for your message. My understanding is that political status of Crimea is focused on the geopolitical dispute between Russia and Ukraine; this is what 'political status' would usually mean. Admittedly, I find the title of that article unsatisfactory. In reality, it deals more narrowly with what is called the 'Crimean problem' or 'Crimean question' in academic sources.
- As I am sure you are aware, Crimean Tatars would inevitably form a minority in any Crimean polity, regardless of whether it were to be independent, or subject to the Russian or Ukrainian state. Mind you, I am well-apprised of the reason why they would form a minority. I do not think there is much room for giving WP:UNDUE influence to any Tatar perspective that may exist in an article that deals primarily with an international dispute, when, as far as I am aware, there is no prominent movement for an independent Tatar state. Any conjecture about what might happen if Crimea were to return to Ukrainian rule seems to be of trivial importance unless it were to be deemed notable in reliable sources. Yours, &c. About your edit in the article 2025 China–Japan diplomatic crisis
[edit]Regarding your edit in the article 2025 China–Japan diplomatic crisis, my intent was to provide a historical basis of Japan's 'self defense' and its relation concerning the Bashi Channel in Taiwan. The very first spark that started the current crisis was the reply Sanae Takaichi gave to a question presented by Katsuya Okada of the Constitutional Democratic Party. Below is a translation of his question (source):
"You're saying that if a naval blockade were imposed, it might constitute a situation that threatens Japan's survival. For example, if the Bashi Channel between Taiwan and the Philippines were blockaded, it might take a few extra days to reroute ships, but fundamentally it wouldn't mean that Japan's supply of energy or food would be cut off, right? I would like to ask under what circumstances such a situation would actually qualify as one that threatens Japan’s survival. What do you think?"
Takaichi then gave her reply, saying that an attack by China on Taiwan could be a 'existential crisis' to Japan.
What I added in my edit is the historical basis of when Japan started to say that a crisis in Taiwan (Bashi Channel) could directly affect Japan. As the specific term 'Bashi Channel' is used in the current diplomatic crisis, I believe the infomation I added is sufficiently connected to the topic. (Examples of Japanese media linking the Bashi Channel to the current crisis [1][2][3])
In terms of a obvious connection to the topic, I would say Shinzo Abe's 2021 remark also given in the same section lacks a direct connection, as he no longer had a position in the Japanese government at the time, and it all happened before Sanae Takaichi and Xue Jian's remarks this month. Kind regards, Hms1103 (talk) 06:28, 21 November 2025 (UTC)

Temporary account IP viewer granted
[edit]
Hello, RGloucester. Per your request, your account has been granted temporary-account-viewer rights. You are now able to reveal the IP addresses of individuals using temporary accounts that are not visible to the general public. This is very sensitive information that is only to be used to aid in anti-abuse workflows. Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer for more information on this user right. It is important to remember:
- You must not share IP address data with someone who does not have the same access permissions unless disclosure is permissible as per guidelines listed at Foundation:Policy:Wikimedia Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy.
- Access must not be used for political control, to apply pressure on editors, or as a threat against another editor in a content dispute. There must be a valid reason to investigate a temporary user. Note that using multiple temporary accounts is not forbidden, so long as they are not used in violation of policies (for example, block or ban evasion).
It is also important to note that the following actions are logged for others to see:
- When a user accepts the preference that enables or disables IP reveal for their account.
- Revealing an IP address of a temporary account.
- Listing the temporary accounts that are associated with one or more IP addresses (using the CIDR notation format).
Remember, even if a user is violating policy, avoid revealing personal information if possible. Use temporary account usernames rather than disclosing IP addresses directly, or give information such as same network/not same network or similar. If you do not want the user right anymore then please ask me or another administrator and it will be removed for you. You may also voluntarily give up access at any time by visiting Special:Preferences. Happy editing! Sohom (talk) 03:07, 23 November 2025 (UTC)

Japan Self-Defense Forces
[edit]I've been editing the lead of the Japan Self-Defense Forces and wanted to include more information about its unique legal status/limitations and its history, but I have fears about potentially introducing incorrect information. I see that you're pretty knowledgeable in Japan-related topics. If it wouldn't be too much of a bother for you, could you help me? Thanks. The Account 2 (talk) 12:13, 27 November 2025 (UTC)
- @The Account 2: I'm juggling a few different things at once, but I will help to the degree I am able. I really would appreciate it if you would be more careful with your editing, however. The way that Legislation for Peace and Security was written made it seem like 'collective self-defence' was something Abe contrived. Now, I don't blame you for this. The problem is that you are relying too heavily on news sources that don't really have a good grasp of what is going on. I've created collective self-defence to help resolve this problem, i.e. make clear that this is a right ascribed to all states in international law. In future, I would ask that, when dealing with complex matters of international and Japanese law, please try to avoid using news sources. To the degree that you are able, try to find academic sources, using Google Books or perhaps the Wikipedia Library. News sources may work for current events, but are very insufficient for topics with as much depth as the JSDF, &c. Relying on news sources can very often introduce over-simplifications into articles, causing misunderstandings. Yours, &c. RGloucester — ☎ 04:16, 28 November 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot! I understand exactly what you mean. I'm more focused on China-related issues and I also regularly see news sources jumbling up a lot of facts (I've honestly felt for a long time that English news coverage of China and Japan is... lacking to say the least). I got myself acquiesced enough with academic work regarding China, but I don't know as much as Japan. Regarding Japan, what kind of academic sources would you recommend me? The Account 2 (talk) 09:01, 28 November 2025 (UTC)
- @The Account 2: I cannot necessarily recommend any particular sources, but if you are affilitated with a university, you might take advantage of its library. Or, as I said above, use the Wikipedia Library, which gives one access to a great variety of texts that would otherwise require a subscription. Google Scholar and Books are also quite helpful. I personally suggest using these resources first. If no good academic sources are available, then news sources may be useful. Yours, &c. RGloucester — ☎ 23:55, 28 November 2025 (UTC)
