DYK for Tokyo Expressway

[edit]

On 23 January 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Tokyo Expressway, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Japan's oldest expressway is intended to be transformed into a park? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Tokyo Expressway. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Tokyo Expressway), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. By the way, anything I can contribute to the Shōroku Shintō Yamatoyama article?

[edit]

I discovered that this organization ran a hospital in South Korea. (news article in Korean) In addition to that, South Korea's MBC News introduced Japan's new religious movements in 1989, including the high school student followers of this religion at the latter part of the video. (news article in Korean, see 3:00-4:00)

So should I put them in this article by using your way of citing news? I believe you take care of this Wikipedia article better than me and I want your approval first. Komitsuki (talk) 05:13, 28 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Komitsuki: Hi there, thanks for reaching out. I don't have any understanding of the Korean language. Did the organization run the hospital or just provide funding for expanding it? It's hard to say based off of the machine translation to English. From the translation of the MBC video it seems the organization is breifly mentioned. I'm not sure that really can add anything to the article, but whatever they did for the hospital may or may not. Go ahead an add to the article and I can look if there's anything else that should be done. ❯❯❯ Mccunicano☕️ 00:07, 29 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Mccunicano: Thank you for your opinion. I need to apologize to you that I misunderstood the Korean forum post describing the first article. I was busy in real life during this long Chinese New Year vacation. It turns out that a South Korean entity ran the hospital and Shōroku Shintō Yamatoyama only provided the funding for the hospital facilities.
I also found out that Yasusaburo Tazawa initially proposed the idea of Donate a Meal campaign among some Japanese religious organizations according to this English language book, Invisible Eyelashes: Seeing What is Closest to Us, page 55.
Maybe this is worthy for citation.
My opinion is that there should be a separate section called Charity activities (please suggest a better name) in that Wikipedia article on Shōroku Shintō Yamatoyama between the Theology section and the Further reading section. Tell me what you think because it's better to plan this carefully. Komitsuki (talk) 04:29, 29 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Mccunicano: I added the information (thankfully, the Korean article in question has an English explanation) in English. I hope I did my best to your standard. Komitsuki (talk) 12:40, 2 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for 1947 Columbus mid-air collision

[edit]

On 28 February 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article 1947 Columbus mid-air collision, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that eight Delta Air Lines executives were killed in the 1947 Columbus mid-air collision, including the airline's vice president of operations? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/1947 Columbus mid-air collision. Happy First Edit Day!

[edit]

Hello. You are invited to participate in The World Destubathon. We're aiming to destub a lot of articles and also improve longer stale articles. It's currently planned for June 16-July 13. There is currently $3338 going into it, with $500 the top prize. As 250 countries and entities is too much to patrol, entries will be by user, but there is $500 going into prizes for editors covering the most countries. Sign up if interested! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:15, 30 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding this edit, could you point out the specific time in the video Zentner mentions his birth date? If you're going to cite an hour long video for key information, a timestamp should be provided. Also, I have restored the {{ubl}} templates to the infobox since it is preferred for accessibility reasons per MOS:NOBR. The {{plainlist}} template also works if you don't like {{ubl}} for whatever reason. Zeibgeist (talk) 05:06, 10 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Zeibgeist: Looking back at my own edits I see only his birth year and place was mentioned in that video. If I recall he's talking about a trip he had in youth to Washington from Wisconsin. Anyways, I looked at the edit history to see where the date was added, and in 2022 an IP user added it following Zentner uploading a video in which he states it is his 60th birthday. That video has now been included as a reference. ❯❯❯ Mccunicano☕️ 06:16, 10 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for providing the additional video. I've clearly specified the timestamp in the citation since the timestamped URL doesn't work for me. It would really be better to have a source that clearly specifies his date and place of birth rather than piecing it together from multiple YouTube videos, but it's good enough if there are no other sources. Zeibgeist (talk) 06:41, 10 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Also, does he specifically mention that he was born in Fort Atkinson or just Wisconsin? Skimming briefly through the video again I can't find mention of the city. Zeibgeist (talk) 06:48, 10 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Aomori Prefecture

[edit]

Hi. On ref 3, the NHK ref for proper pronunciation, do you have a page number for that book? Or an quality online source? I can't find one. Specifically the [a.oꜜ.mo.ɾʲi, a.o.mo.ɾʲiꜜ.keɴ] part. Thanks. MisawaSakura (talk) 15:10, 11 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@MisawaSakura: I don't recall adding that NHK book reference, it might have been from a physical book from a library in Japan that I had help with in translating, or maybe there was something helpful at that url that has since been moved. It's hard to pin down when things were done with some of the access dates having been changed to reflect a more recent addition to the article rather than when they were actually added. I'll talk to my Japanese-speaking friend to see if they can come up with a solution to this, it may take some time with how busy they are. ❯❯❯ Mccunicano☕️ 09:02, 12 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Ty. Let me know. We might get by without it at GA but at FA they'll want a page number or an online source for it. MisawaSakura (talk) 19:35, 12 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
this edit first added the IPA on March 31, 2025, by NaharaF
this edit tweaked it with a different IPA and added the NHK ref on May 14, 2025 by Mazamadao
Mazamadao, we are trying to get this to GA then FA and for that the reviewers at FAC (possibly GAC too) will want a page number. Since you added the NHK ref, can you find the page numbers for it or provide an online ref that will pass FA standards for the IPA for Aomori-ken? We'd really appreciate it. Thanks! MisawaSakura (talk) 03:41, 13 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
found a Bewick's Swan for you MisawaSakura (talk) 00:00, 16 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I had seen that one, I was hoping to find a photo actually taken in Aomori Pref., but it'll suffice. ❯❯❯ Mccunicano☕️ 01:35, 16 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Nice tweaks. FYI, Dekimasu removed the Aomorian denonym, not me. MisawaSakura (talk) 11:26, 16 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I did notice that, I had just been going through looking at all of the recent changes and that one stood out. I understood their skepticism (I was skeptical myself of the validity of the term when I first came across it), but found that it had been in use at least around a decade at the time with the growth of English speaking communities in the area and rise in foreign tourism. ❯❯❯ Mccunicano☕️ 20:40, 16 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I see only 18 hits on all of Google. The real demonym for someone from Aomori would unsurprisingly be in Japanese rather than English, and there are many more hits for "Aomori-kenmin" in English than for "Aomorian". There are even more hits for "Aomori-jin" than for "Aomorian". Neologisms are fine when they are actually in use, but MOS:NEO says "Neologisms are expressions coined recently or in isolated circumstances to which they have remained restricted. In most cases, they do not appear in general-interest dictionaries, though they may be used routinely within certain communities or professions. They should generally be avoided because their definitions tend to be unstable and many do not last." My guess is that any recent uses of "Aomorian" are actually due to citogenesis. Dekimasuよ! 04:58, 22 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Despite evidence to the contrary, you are being rather dismissive based on mere Google searches. The term was only added here within the past half decade or so. Your Google searches will show the term predates that addition. An academic search will provide plenty more. ❯❯❯ Mccunicano☕️ 07:04, 22 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm perfectly happy to be wrong, but I'm not sure what you mean by an academic search. There are a small number of examples of the term from 1930s American newspapers in a particular set of articles on the purported tomb of Jesus, then nothing for decades. Zero results in the National Diet Library of Japan. Google Scholar yields two hits, one of which is a false positive. That leaves only this article: [1]. I don't see any evidence that it is a widely accepted term. Dekimasuよ! 06:09, 23 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think this discussion is going anywhere. I can keep pointing out other sources that haven't been mentioned here, but I don't think that will sway the discussion. You have your opinion and I have mine. I don't think it is wrong to include that Japanese may refer to the people of Aomori as "Aomori-kenmin", but there is undeniable evidence beyond the several blogs and social media posts that the term "Aomorian" has been around for sometime and its use has grown (on a limited scale) as the English-speaking community grows there- much like the term "Tokyoite" has been adapted. My proposals are to either add mention of the Japanese "Aomori-kenmin" alongside "Aomorian" with a brief explanation of both, or to take the matter to an WP:RFC. ❯❯❯ Mccunicano☕️ 22:23, 23 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
"do you have a page number for that book?" Unfortunately no. I only have a digital copy. Find it on app stores if you will. Mazamadao (talk) 18:54, 18 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Duckabush River

[edit]

On 21 September 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Duckabush River, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that pillow lava can be found along the upper reaches of the Duckabush River (pictured), even though those structures can only form underwater? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Duckabush River. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Duckabush River), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to nominate it.

Hi. Will you still be able to copyedit those 5 paragraphs from SCat's review of Aomori Prefecture? Ty. MisawaSakura (talk) 23:18, 23 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'm working on it bit by bit as time allows. ❯❯❯ Mccunicano☕️ 19:52, 24 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That's fine, thank you, much appreciated. MisawaSakura (talk) 21:11, 24 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Love the WWII rewrite, nice job! MisawaSakura (talk) 21:13, 24 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi. Much appreciate your help on this article! I was much perplexed by the one-line on the North Korean defectors for some days. Then today I found some good sources to expand that to its own paragraph. I was also perplexed by the gap in recent history from 2011 til now. I kept thinking something significant must have happened in the prefecture since then and is findable with a good source in the internet age. I found a few things but they are more appropriate to another section, such as transport. Then about an hour ago I found out about the disaster snowfall in Jan of this year. It was so large and damaging, especially to the apple crop, that I very much feel it belongs in history section. Feel free to look all this over and tweak as needed. (FYI SC here). When SchroCat finshes his review (no hurry SC), which he is doing at FA-level, I'm thinking of going to FA and skipping GA. FYI both of you, I'm probably submitting Hachikō, the famous loyal dog, to GA in a few days. I found excellent sources for it and have expanded it 3-fold. I actually saw his statue in Shibuya Station once but at the time I had no idea why it was there. Darn! haha. THANKS TO BOTH OF YOU VERY MUCH!!!. MisawaSakura (talk) 00:07, 25 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again for picking up where I left off on the article back in 2020. I was looking at that same bit about the defectors and nearly removed it. As far as recent developments go, did you look into the links posted on the prefecture's talk page by Editorq35? When I lived in Aomori, there was always some kind of talk about what was going to happen with the nuclear reprocessing plant after the events of 2011. We even got paid for living within a certain distance of it once a year. Other than that most new developments are covered elsewhere in the article (population decline, transportation developments, sports teams/events). Maybe coverage of Tropical_Storm_Lupit_(2021)#Japan could be included as well. There were a couple hundred people ordered to be evacuated and it isolated hundreds more when it destroyed a bridge on Japan National Route 279 (an article I got to GA several years back). ❯❯❯ Mccunicano☕️ 04:11, 25 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
1) As for the nuclear stuff, there's this in the economy section: "The peninsula is also home to the inactive Rokkasho Reprocessing Plant that is owned by Japan Nuclear Fuel Limited, a company headquartered in the village of Rokkasho that is involved in the production of nuclear fuel, as well as the reprocessing, storage, and disposal of nuclear waste.[129] In July 2024, the governor of Aomori announced the approval of a nuclear waste storage facility in town of Mutsu.[130] The city of Hachinohe is home to the Pacific Metals Company, a manufacturer of ferronickel products.[83]"....is the stuff you linked to part of this or is it totally different?
2) Copied the Lupit stuff over to the 1945 history section. MisawaSakura (talk) 13:37, 25 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That's exactly it. Since that information has been included in the article I went ahead and moved that discussion and older ones to the talk page's archive. ❯❯❯ Mccunicano☕️ 18:12, 25 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hachikō GAC

[edit]

I have submitted Hachikō to GAC. It says anyone that's not a significant contributor can review it, so hopefully someone will pick it up soon as I see several articles have been there almost a year. MisawaSakura (talk) 01:52, 26 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Jōmon period

[edit]

I know you're busy, and that's fine. I very much appreciate your help when you are able. I think we make a good team. I'm retired, so I have lots of time. My top priority is to get Aomori Prefecture to GA then FA and Hachiko to GA, maybe FA. Now, while waiting for people to pick up their GA nominations, I'm going to work on Jōmon period, which looks very interesting. I'll start with the refs, as they are inconsistent, though high quality sources. I'm glad to continue working together if you have the time and inclination. MisawaSakura (talk) 14:09, 27 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I just put Jōmon period at GAN. The content was mostly there. Mainly I just had to put things in a standard format, find refs, and do some restructuring. So that's 3 at GAN now. MisawaSakura (talk) 00:29, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Sectioning dispute at Morava Airport

[edit]

Hello!

You seem to know your airports. It would be great if you could offer a third opinion in a dispute over Morava Airport, if that's your sort of thing. If it is, most of the discussion is over at User talk:Klačko, but perhaps it would be better if you weighed in at Talk:Morava Airport. No pressure either way, but if you do decide to go for it, the article is a GA nominee, so in this case there might be a deadline.

Thanks in advance! JustARandomSquid (talk) 12:38, 30 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Kei Okami

[edit]

I'd like to get Kei Okami to GA but I can't find enough quality source material to do that. MisawaSakura (talk)` MisawaSakura (talk) 21:50, 30 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Yes Received I'll reply again if I can find anything to help. Also, if Aomori Prefecture passes would you mind sharing credit with me on its promotion? I would like that since I wasn't too far off the first go it had there. ❯❯❯ Mccunicano☕️ 22:58, 30 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. I've always planned to share credit on it if it makes GA and/or FA. MisawaSakura (talk) 23:28, 30 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Sannai-Maruyama Site

[edit]

Just FYI, I've put Sannai-Maruyama Site at GAN. We now have 4 waiting for reviews. MisawaSakura (talk) 14:42, 2 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

There are lots of academic journal article on this site. MisawaSakura (talk) 15:51, 2 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Now I'm working on Shirakami-Sanchi, but this one will take more work, but it's ok, it's in Aomori and interesting. If there's anything other than Aomori Prefecture you'd like to share credit on, just let me know. MisawaSakura (talk) 22:48, 3 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
