Retirement
[edit]Hi everyone! With 2025 rolling in, I've made the decision to generally retire from editing. I've got a lot going on, and I'm ready to step back and work on other things. I will almost certainly still make some edits here and there as I read various articles and spot typos and what not, but in general I will no longer be patrolling, checking watchlist (it's been wiped!) or participating in most WikiProject pages. I might not be quick to see any pings or new talk page messages. I had intended to do this with the New Year but I might not be online the next couple days so here we go. Thanks to everyone I've edited with over the last... counts... 17 years! -- ferret (talk) 17:49, 30 December 2024 (UTC)
- I hope you have a great time and great luck with everything you move on to. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 18:00, 30 December 2024 (UTC)
- I'm sorry to hear that, but I understand. Let me know if you ever need me to help with anything while unavailable to do it yourself. (I'll continue to be a talk page stalker too.) Sergecross73 msg me 18:12, 30 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for all your work for the encyclopedia and the community. -- asilvering (talk) 18:37, 30 December 2024 (UTC)

- Well, 2025 sucks already. I've removed the bit per your BN message, but I apologise I've been a little quick on the draw, so if you want it back, let me know.
- Thank you for a ridiculous 17 years. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 19:22, 30 December 2024 (UTC)
- I'll miss you, good luck IRL! Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 19:39, 30 December 2024 (UTC)
- ferret, thank you. Thank you for WP:Discord, thank you for your service as an admin and CU, thank you for everything. If, someday, you find your way back to WP, we eagerly await your return. - I know we've gotten off the wrong foot when we first crossed paths, but you've been pushing me and many others in the Wikipedia community in the right direction for nearly two decades. Hope you have a great time away, and thanks for everything. :) TWOrantulaTM (enter the web) 05:44, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
- Just joining the others in saying that your work on Wikipedia and in managing the Discord server has been greatly appreciated. May whatever you focus on next be as improved. SnowFire (talk) 21:37, 4 January 2025 (UTC)

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare cooperation
[edit]Thanks for help with combining my and WikiBenboy's input for "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare", and giving hints for further improvement (too much text dedicated solely to EGM): https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Call_of_Duty:_Infinite_Warfare&diff=prev&oldid=1035246620
which helped in creating this version: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Call_of_Duty:_Infinite_Warfare&diff=next&oldid=1044370108
This was a good coop, I believe.
Damn, forgot to sign, again. MichalZim (talk) 08:00, 31 December 2024 (UTC)
Tragedy Video Games and Tradegy Anime need to be categories
[edit]It’s me, Chcu, You deleted Tragedy Video Games Category and Drama Category from my edits. You undid them. Why?Also why is Tragedy not a category either? I was happy I made an edit on Wikipedia. Oh well, sorry to bother you. Will you please bring it back? If not, that’s ok. Edward Erlic (talk) 18:58, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Ponyo This is Chcu1297, if you could please handle. -- ferret (talk) 20:17, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
Understanding Block
[edit]Apologies if this is does not adhere to guidelines, I created an account to try to contact you regarding a block you issued to my IP, but the email function on your account seems to have been disabled? Anyway, I am trying to understand why I was blocked by you. The text was as follows:
Long-term abuse: extending, see also 72.64.0.0/20
I do not understand. Please clarify. Thank you. Mir1066 (talk) 20:43, 11 August 2025 (UTC)
- @NinjaRobotPirate In my retirement, I'll let you field this one further if you like. Mir1066: These range blocks are intended for a highly disruptive user who has continually had to be blocked and remains active to this day. If you aren't them, then it isn't intended for you. -- ferret (talk) 23:12, 11 August 2025 (UTC)
- I didn't look too closely, but, as far as I can tell, none of the blocks should affect registered users. Once you create an account, you should be fine. On today's internet, "my IP" is often not exactly correct. IP addresses can be shared with several other customers on the same ISP, causing random people to experience occasional problems when they end up on those IP addresses. There isn't really much that can be done. ISPs don't listen to us when we complain about their users, so we generally don't do that any more. We just block their customers' access to our website instead. If ISPs listened to our complaints, this might not be necessary. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 12:14, 12 August 2025 (UTC)
