Development of Grand Theft Auto VI
[edit]Hello. Do not remove categories from redirects. Eurohunter (talk) 11:30, 9 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Eurohunter: There are certain categories which should only be used on articles, not redirects. I believe that Category:Development of specific video games should be among them. If you disagree, we could try getting a consensus at WT:VG. QuicoleJR (talk) 11:51, 9 August 2025 (UTC)
- Where is this written? We categorise redirects, and here is no reason to not do it. Eurohunter (talk) 11:52, 9 August 2025 (UTC)
- It's not formally written anywhere, but a few categories have that consensus. The main issue with using certain categories on redirects is that it clutters the category and makes it difficult to find actual articles, but that's usually only an issue with larger categories. In this specific situation, I believe that this category is most useful for categorizing development articles that have been split out, and that this category's usefulness would be diminished if it was filled with redirects. Bringing a vital article to GA
[edit]Hey! A major goal of the VA project is to bring vital articles to a good quality status, so I was wondering if you wanted to collaborate with me in bringing, perhaps, a video game (since it's an interest of yours) to GA! Looking at Wikipedia:Vital articles/Level/5/Everyday life/Sports, games and recreation, I would say that XBox 360, Mario Kart and Wii Sports caught my attention. Feel free to suggest other articles if you are interested!
Also, thank you for pointing out the error in the archiving! The Blue Rider 17:37, 28 August 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for the offer, but I'm unfortunately very busy right now (and I've been procrastinating my own pet project article for over two years), so I can't start on a massive project like that. I really do appreciate the offer, though, and if I end up finding enough free time to take on a big article like this, I'd probably choose either Mario Kart or Super Smash Bros. I will let you know if the situation changes and I get enough free time to work on this with you. Thanks, QuicoleJR (talk) 17:48, 28 August 2025 (UTC)
WikiCup 2025 September newsletter
[edit]The fourth round of the 2025 WikiCup ended on 29 August. The penultimate round saw three contestants score more than 800 points:
BeanieFan11 (submissions) with 1,175 round points, mainly from sports-related articles, including 17 good articles, 27 did you know articles, and 9 in the news articles
Arconning (submissions) with 1,090 round points, mainly from articles about athletes and politicians, including a featured article on Philippines at the 1924 Summer Olympics, 9 good articles, 28 did you know articles, and a wide assortment of featured and good article reviews
AirshipJungleman29 (submissions) with 854 round points, mostly from a high-scoring featured article on the Indian leader Rani of Jhansi and two good articles, in addition to 13 featured and good article reviews
Everyone who competed in Round 4 will advance to Round 5 unless they have withdrawn. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far, while the full scores for Round 4 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 9 featured articles, 12 featured lists, 98 good articles, 9 good topic articles, more than 150 reviews, nearly 100 did you know articles, and 18 in the news articles.
In advance of the fifth and final round, the judges would like to thank every contestant for their hard work. As a reminder, any content promoted after 29 August but before the start of Round 5 can be claimed in Round 5. In addition, note that Round 5 will end on 31 October at 23:59 UTC. Awards at the end of Round 5 will be distributed based on who has the most tournament points over all five rounds, and special awards will be distributed based on high performance in particular areas of content creation (e.g., most featured articles in a single round).
Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges – Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs), Epicgenius (talk · contribs), Frostly (talk · contribs), Guerillero (talk · contribs) and Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs) – are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck!
If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:48, 30 August 2025 (UTC)

Temporary account IP viewer granted
[edit]
Hello, QuicoleJR. Per your request, your account has been granted temporary-account-viewer rights. You are now able to reveal the IP addresses of individuals using temporary accounts that are not visible to the general public. This is very sensitive information that is only to be used to aid in anti-abuse workflows. Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer for more information on this user right. It is important to remember:
- You must not share IP address data with someone who does not have the same access permissions unless disclosure is permissible as per guidelines listed at Foundation:Policy:Wikimedia Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy.
- Access must not be used for political control, to apply pressure on editors, or as a threat against another editor in a content dispute. There must be a valid reason to investigate a temporary user. Note that using multiple temporary accounts is not forbidden, so long as they are not used in violation of policies (for example, block or ban evasion).
It is also important to note that the following actions are logged for others to see:
- When a user accepts the preference that enables or disables IP reveal for their account.
- Revealing an IP address of a temporary account.
- Listing the temporary accounts that are associated with one or more IP addresses (using the CIDR notation format).
Remember, even if a user is violating policy, avoid revealing personal information if possible. Use temporary account usernames rather than disclosing IP addresses directly, or give information such as same network/not same network or similar. If you do not want the user right anymore then please ask me or another administrator and it will be removed for you. You may also voluntarily give up access at any time by visiting Special:Preferences. Happy editing! —Femke 🐦 (talk) 17:12, 11 September 2025 (UTC)
Redaction
[edit]That was quite the ITN redaction. Is there a discussion somewhere I missed about it - or at least whose material was redacted? Nfitz (talk) 18:39, 11 September 2025 (UTC)
- An IP address posted the name of one of the people who was detained and released by the FBI and who was determined to have had no role in the shooting, calling them "the enemy". This was suppressed by the Oversight team as a severe BLP violation after I brought it to their attention over email. Hope this helps. QuicoleJR (talk) 18:44, 11 September 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks - that makes sense! And really surprising given the reports that those questioned are non-involved. On the other hand, do we know the ethnic background/immigration status of those initially arrested? I'm likely making a prejudiced comment here, but given the state of that nation, I'd expect any premature arrests to be non-white, despite the photos showing the shooter appearing white! Though I guess we don't want to do OR here - and my prejudiced comment isn't relevant to the clearly necessary redaction! Thanks for the oversight!! Nfitz (talk) 19:23, 11 September 2025 (UTC)
- And turns out I'm wrong. But we have major sources for this published after the release of the "occasionally ubiquitous" activist. And I see currently reference 33 of Killing of Charlie Kirk lists his name in the title. So is this a redaction issue - if so, more needs to be done. I guess I need to work hard to avoid my own prejudices. Nfitz (talk) 19:31, 11 September 2025 (UTC)
- It was actually the other wrongly accused suspect who I was talking about, not the one mentioned in that source. The BLP issue was referring to them as "the enemy" without sources, so that source, which puts it in context and specifies that the activist didn't shoot Kirk, is fine. The activist you refer to is also more of a public figure than the other wrongly accused suspect. QuicoleJR (talk) 19:40, 11 September 2025 (UTC)

THANKS SO MUCH! 111.90.230.12 (talk) 02:21, 18 September 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for the message. I am not particularly involved in that page, but was simply reverting an act of vandalism. The page is currently unprotected, so you can improve it yourself using those sources if you want. A guide on how to cite sources in articles can be found by clicking this link. Also, if you plan to continue editing in the future, you may want to make an account. It is free and allows us to more easily communicate with you, as well as providing several privileges, including the ability to create new articles. But again, you don't even need to do that to improve Park Bo-gum's article. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Thanks, QuicoleJR (talk) 02:26, 18 September 2025 (UTC)
Edit request answered?
[edit]Hey I just wanted to check, I hope this is not out of line, but I don’t think the issue of US rescinding sanctions on settlers has actually been resolved?
I still see those sanctions in the table? Slomo666 (talk) 10:56, 19 September 2025 (UTC)
- Sorry about that, Volatile's reply made it look like he handled the request. I have reactivated it for you. QuicoleJR (talk) 11:21, 19 September 2025 (UTC)
- @Slomo666: By the way, you are currently extended confirmed, so you can make the edits yourself now. QuicoleJR (talk) 14:18, 19 September 2025 (UTC)
- Yes! Since a few minutes ago. I had been misled by someone who told me I need 500 edits in the article mainspace. I will try to resolve my own edit requests in the coming week. Slomo666 (talk) 14:31, 19 September 2025 (UTC)
