Santa Paula
[edit]I want to discuss the changes made on Santa Paula, California regarding the images in the montage. The image of Thomas Aquinas College is actually not highly visible in the city. In fact, it borders on unincorporated land. I don't want to publicize my sources, but if you want me to verify the opinions of City Hall I can. I suggest leaving the photo of the Train Depot and keeping the image of the orange groves as it represents the history of citrus and agriculture. Moyir90 (talk) 18:07, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Moyir90: Thank you for the message! To be frank, the opinions of City Hall are inconsequential - that's not how Wikipedia works. Including the train depot because its locally relevant is perfectly valid (I can see it's used extensively in city imagery in different sources), but infobox montages are spaces to showcase the city or in some cases recognizable natural landmarks, but not non-descript agricultural land. Nearly every town in California has an "agricultural history", but you don't see garlic fields for Gilroy (the "Garlic Capital of the World"), Almond trees for Ripon (the "Almond Capital of the World") , or mushroom farms for Morgan Hill (the "Mushroom Capital of the World"), and so on. But the image of the orange groves is worth including in the body of the article, I agree with that; I could see it in the economy or geography section, for example. In regards to the church/college, the landmark is consequential enough to be used in tourist material and its certainly architecturally significant enough to merit inclusion in the montage. That being said, the imagery on Wikicommons for the city is certainly lacking. If you are a local and want to showcase more of the city, I suggest uploading more images of the landmarks and historic sites of the community, perhaps the Cole Art Center or downtown shops - I think that either of those would definitely merit inclusion in the montage and certainly in the article. Cristiano Tomás (talk) 18:22, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
- Ah yes, sadly I don't have access to a proper camera at the moment or else I would find more landmarks to photograph. I had originally changed the images back in August as the Train Depot is more notable and recognizable than the college. In fact, the Train Depot is highlighted on the Chamber's website. I appreciate the tourism link, but that article was likely written by a bot and/or ai, as "Santa Paula Bakery" doesn't exist nor has it ever. The Faulkner Farm hasn't been open since c 2014. Harding Park has no open spaces for picnics either. There are more mistakes, but I digress.
- The land and agriculture of Morgan Hill is shown on the montage, so I feel like the agriculture could be in a smaller image like the Train Depot is now. At the very least, to compromise, I think that Train Depot should be the larger image featured and Thomas Aquinas College is a "smaller" image, switching places with the Train Depot; at least until I can take more images of local landmarks. Moyir90 (talk) 19:33, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Moyir90: Happy for you to rearrange the montage as you might see fit, including the college photo. Given the proportions, you might have to make use of the croptool or try to find a less vertical image of the college. In regards to morgan hill, you'll notice its a static montage (AKA not customizable template, but its all one image, so not a great example for either of our points to be honest). And don't be afraid to use your phone camera! I have uploaded thousands of images (such as File:Brousseau Hall 4716 (cropped).jpg or File:Pico-Boronda Adobe 4278.jpg), all captured with my iphone and they make due even if theyre not photographer-grade quality! Given your knowledge of the community, I encourage you to give it a try! Best, Cristiano Tomás (talk) 19:49, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
- That would be great if you could rearrange it for me! I'm not that skilled of editor :) I will try taking some photos with my phone as well. Sadly, the college is an hour away from the town square (due to unforeseen landslides), so it'll be some months until I can make my way there. Am I able to use photos from online? Why was Harriet E. Riggs removed as a notable resident in LeDroit Park????
[edit]Doctor Harriet (Hattie) Riggs – A black educator from Calais, Maine, who taught at the M Street High School, lived at this location. Although Dr. Riggs earned her medical degree in 1892 from Howard University, she never practiced medicine. (418 T Street NW) She taught English at M St. High School and Dunbar High School, retiring in 1922. During her service of 40 years, she was head of the departments of English and History and a member of the board of examiners for the colored schools. In 1901 Dr. Riggs was graduated from Howard University Medical School, winning the alumni prize in medicine.
Of the 17 Notable Residents of LeDroit Park, on two are women...both very impressive...one being an heiress, and the other, in collaboration with her Doctor husband, did amazing things. But Harriet (Hattie) E Riggs was an Single, never married, African American woman whom earned a Medical degree in 1892....super impressive. Would she have been worthy of note were she an heiress or married?

- If she doesn't have a wikipedia article already, she cannot be listed in a "notable people" section.Cristiano Tomás (talk) 19:19, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Cristiano. Thank you for your note an explanation--Is that an absolute rule in Wikipedia? And, I was not trying to remove a reference....I was trying to add it back in and apparently failed. I was most certainly not trying to be disruptive. My apologies.
- So, were a Wikipedia article did exist on her, then she could be included?
- It just feels wrong that so many women in general, and African American women specifically, have been overlooked in our society. Certainly there are many more women in the history of LeDroit Park whom deserve recognition...the men could not have done it on there own.
- Thank you.
- Doug 2601:152:881:8010:5AC:6995:FE9F:6DDE (talk) 19:35, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
- Yes it is a guideline for any section listing notable people that the entries have their own article. If you feel like there aren't enough articles on a subjects you're passionate about (that meet the WP:Notability guidelines), then write them, with proper sources (see WP:Verifiability and WP:Citing sources). Wikipedia is what we make of it. Cristiano Tomás (talk) 19:41, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for removing the voter table at Alameda, California. My biggest issue with these tables are that they are inaccurate (the districts listed do not line up evenly with the city boundaries), and most are poorly sited and added by primarily by this sock. If you get pushback, please let me know, as it may need to go to an RFC. Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 14:02, 13 May 2024 (UTC)

West Adams
[edit]FWIW, my own work uniformly refers to West Adams as a neighborhood, not a district. By contrast, the editors here, apart from cited sources, vacillate in variously referencing West Adams as a district versus a neighborhood. That's a semantic inconsistency that I neither allow in my own linguistic endeavors nor do I suffer lightly when I encounter it at Wikipedia. I had hoped an enterprising editor would accordingly remedy the situation but it looks like no one's up to it. Guess the task is up to me. Kent Dominic·(talk) 18:31, 29 August 2024 (UTC)

The last one created on the 3rd of this month, edited today. I am unsure how you would go about requesting this to be fixed - though I did just remove what I believe was the cause of it Special:Diff/1250834580. I just thought I should inform you.
Note: I did not fix this current page, that template is not here anymore, it was archived (somehow) and caused recursive archiving - you are welcome to re-add it, but I don't want to do so myself as that seems a bit like messing with your talk page. The article University House, San Luis Obispo has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Subject of the article is not notable and has not received significant coverage. WP:SUSTAINED - "Brief bursts of news coverage may not sufficiently demonstrate notability." Most sources are also arguably noncompliant with WP:GNG re: independence of sources; one is from the university and two are from the campus newspaper.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Artwhitemaster (talk) 06:01, 18 December 2024 (UTC)

- Hi @Horse Eye's Back:, appreciate you reaching out. I did indeed. He was someone I knew through my social circle in Portugal and stupidly thought during my early college years that making an article on a public figure I knew would be cool. I was never paid - just young, foolish, and even cocky. Once his page began to be edited with the controversial topics, I immediately stopped editing it and never sought to overturn the edits which painted DePaco in bad light; and I have since not had any relation/contact with him for about 10 years. I would like to recuse myself from any discussions on his or related pages and their future. I have been on Wikipedia for nearly 15 years and done thousands of edits on history, architecture, etc. and would hate for this foolish act of my 18 year old self to hinder my ability to continue editing on Wikipedia, but I suppose even the things from 10 years ago can catch up to you. You are purposefully obfuscating reference to the Californian genocide in the lead by simply calling it displacement and depopulation, and quite frankly doing so in multiple places with poor writing. Your "added information" adds no value to these articles and actually hurts them with your poor writing and obfuscation. And this is Wikipedia, not a playground; there is no "come on let me do this", what kind of argument is that? lol. Cristiano Tomás (talk) 14:32, 1 October 2025 (UTC)
- Stop insulting my writing. Everyone makes mistakes. And I try to add detail and want to fix information. I am a skilled historian. I want the page to be as unbiased and fair as possible. You should not hurt other editors by constantly reverting their edits. TheHistorianEditor (talk) 14:44, 1 October 2025 (UTC)

Uruguay Oriental
[edit]I am not flat out wrong as you say. The translation is wrong! It is however accepted in some places. Which is true but silly! Gerard von Hebel (talk) 16:08, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Hebel: You are indeed flat out wrong, the translation "Republic East of the Uruguay" is both ridiculous in its structure and also not used at all - "eastern" would be better than the garble you propose. But the fact is that Oriental means "eastern" and is widely accepted. Case closed. Cristiano Tomás (talk) 16:21, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
