Happy holidays!

[edit]
A golden Wikipedia logo with stars, balloons, and the words "New Year" Happy holidays and a prosperous 2025!
Various color words. The first six words' colors correspond to the word itself; the next six do not.

I was skimming Psychology to find a good picture to put here, and then I got distracted by the illustration of the Stroop effect. Brains are so cool!

Mason, it has been a pleasure to work with you over this past year. Your dedication maintaining the plethora of category header templates, your responsiveness to requests to implement various discussions (regardless of how much work it might take to do them!), and your creativity in coming up with ways to repurpose categories are noticed and appreciated :) Thank you for everything this year, and here's to another productive year improving what could reasonably be called humanity's greatest collection of knowledge – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit. Wishing all the best to you and yours in 2025, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 03:21, 22 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That is so thoughtful of you! Thank you so much for the kind words and appreciation!!!!! SMasonGarrison 03:35, 22 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, Mason :) Best, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 03:47, 22 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations!

Let me be the first to congratulate you on your new mop. Andre🚐 18:52, 31 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

thanks!!!! SMasonGarrison 20:59, 31 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You did it

[edit]
A shirt with the text "I'm an admin and all I get is this crappy T-shirt :)"

Congrats on the mop; you made it through. Enjoy mopping; user:Qwerfjkl/scripts/CFDlister is super helpful for closing discussions. The "list discussions" button posts to WT:CFDW rather than WP:CFDW, so you have to click "edit discussions" and copy/paste them manually into CFD. (It was designed that way because my dear friend Qwerfjkl has yet to turn this link blue.) If you need any help, let me know. You've got this—I am certain you will be fantastic. A baton for you!

[edit]
The admin baton
Per ancient tradition, it is my great pleasure to pass on this baton to you, as Curbon7 did to me. It serves as a reminder that, despite dramas petty and grand, we work together to build an encyclopedia. You, holding this baton, are saluted by all its past holders. Enjoy it and then pass it on to the next AELECT admin as soon as you can! jlwoodwa (talk) 00:10, 3 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The axe of responsibility
Shiny new tools might be used to mete out justice, mercy or a dose of reality. Let us commit to not losing our cool when using them. Our only armor is the entire community's trust. We wear it for each other, each new contributor, and each new generation to come. May you ever be the community's champion.

A. J. Potter

[edit]

I note that you have restored 'Category:British male opera composers' for this subject. Yet you also comment that Potter was from Northern Ireland. That made him a citizen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland but does not mean he was 'British'. This may seem pedantic but it is really a vital distinction. I hope you understand. Jim Bruce (talk) 07:27, 21 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Please review the nesting structure for categorization of people of Northern Ireland. They're parented by British and Irish. SMasonGarrison 11:42, 21 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I see that you've reverted another British parent category. Please @Jim Bruce review the nesting structure for categorization. SMasonGarrison 23:38, 24 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Landowners from the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 02:11, 22 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Bass guitarists from Northern Ireland

[edit]

The template Template:Bass guitarists by nationality and century category header has started populating category redirects like Category:20th-century Northern Ireland musicians by instrument. Are you able to work out what's causing the problem and fix it? Timrollpickering (talk) 10:06, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know! I'll see what's up. SMasonGarrison 12:20, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I've got to head to campus to give a lecture in an hour. I suspect that there is a missing Resolve category redirect somewhere. I'll pick this back up in about three hours. SMasonGarrison 12:28, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed it! https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:Bass_guitarists_by_nationality_and_century_category_header&diff=prev&oldid=1308983226 Thanks for letting me know! SMasonGarrison 14:08, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Categorization of Olga Kurylenko

[edit]

Hi, I know it's kinda late. However, I oppose adding "Category:20th-century Ukrainian actresses" and "Category:21st-century Ukrainian actresses" to Olga Kurylenko cuz 1) she first gained notability as an actress in 2005, not 1995 (when she started modeling) 2) like I said, she no longer held Ukrainian citizenship when she first gained notability as an actress. Thanks. Thedarkknightli (talk) 16:56, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I already explained these issues in my edit summaries. The lead defines her as a "Ukrainian actress", which is how she is regularly described in other media. Moreover, it is how she is described in the lead. SMasonGarrison 00:32, 2 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I've just replaced "Category:20th-century Ukrainian actresses" with "Category:20th-century Ukrainian women". Thedarkknightli (talk) 04:34, 2 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Carl Ray and Morriseau Expo 67

[edit]

The draft for the Earth Mother mural on the exterior of the Indians of Canada pavilion that was created by Morriseau still exists. Once accepted by the selection committee it was turned over to Carl Ray to work with the architectural group to complete the transfer of the design to the exterior wall. 4vanislepaul (talk) 20:01, 13 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not a civil rights activist? I disagree

[edit]

Among your many edits September 18 category edits, you removed Louis E. Burnham from Category:American civil rights activists. He was a civil rights activist, among other things. This removal makes no sense to me. Please explain why I should not revert it. Perhaps the explanation references a naivete on my part, but I would like to know, as I disagree with your implied assessment. Larry Koenigsberg (talk) 05:55, 18 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
