Hi @MCE89. This is the second time, I have been notified for copyright violation while editing this article. I am aware about the policies and the result of violation. I have even done a rephrase to avoid from copyright violation but seems that doesn't work. Fade258 (talk) 12:58, 1 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Fade258. You initially copied in a paragraph that was copied verbatim from the source, and then edited it to rephrase some sentences. You can see the report at Copypatrol here: [1] (click on "iThenticate report" to see the overlap). The original edit was clearly a copyright violation, but even with the rephrasing that you did it was still an example of close paraphrasing. You might find WP:FIXCLOSEPARA helpful for understanding how to rewrite content without close paraphrasing. If any of that is unclear just let me know, happy to explain further if you have questions. MCE89 (talk) 13:04, 1 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@MCE89. Ok. Wait for minutes. I will try to rewrite in my own words and before adding to the article. I will present here to double check. Fade258 (talk) 13:14, 1 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @MCE89:. I have written it in my own words by extracting information from those reference. Can you check it please Most of the members within the class Polychaeta is gonochorism, meaning that they have a separate male and female individuals. The breeding season is crucial because females release pheromones that draws attention of males near to them to release their sperm into the water. The existence of sperm in water then acts as a stimulus, prompting the females to release their eggs. This mass release of gametes by both sexes is known as swarming which resulting in highly synchronized external fertilization. The gametes exit the adult's body through the excretory organs or by rupturing the entire body wall. After the fertilization process, the zygotes then develop into a planktonic trochophore larva. Simulatenously, the larva subsequently undergoes transformation which elongates into a body lengthened juvenile stage, which eventually matures into the adult form.. If still it violates copyright violation then tell me where should I improve to prevent from violating copyright policies. Fade258 (talk) 14:44, 1 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That's much better, although the overall passage still feels slightly too closely paraphrased to me. Your sentences are in the same order and present exactly the same ideas, with much of the same sentence structure as the original. I think trying to summarise the key concepts in your own words without looking at the source text (then checking your summary against the source) may help here, rather than directly rephrasing the source text. If there are any other sources that describe this species' reproduction, combining ideas from multiple sources is also a very useful way to avoid close paraphrasing. MCE89 (talk) 14:52, 1 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@MCE89:. I did slightly change in the above text by extracting some information from the ref 4 which was added in the article which is also an copyrighed. Can you look please Most of the members within the class Polychaeta is gonochorism, meaning that they have a separate male and female individuals. Spawning occurs from late late May to early September in New Hamsphire. The breeding season is crucial because females release pheromones that draws attention of males near to them to release their sperm into the water. The existence of sperm in water then acts as a stimulus, prompting the females to release around 100 eggs for fertilize within the tube where eggs are not regular in shape whose approximately size is 200 µm in diameter, and are not properly enclosed in a pouch but remain loose in the tube. This mass release of gametes by both sexes is known as spawning which resulting in highly synchronized external fertilization. The gametes exit the adult's body through the excretory organs or by rupturing the entire body wall. After the fertilization process, the zygotes then develop into a planktonic trochophore larva where female stays inside the tube until the eggs development. Simulatenously, the larva subsequently undergoes transformation which elongates into a body lengthened juvenile stage, which eventually matures into the adult form. Request you to check again and I think that facts aren't copyrighted even the cites are copyrighted. Fade258 (talk) 15:30, 1 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That looks good to me. MCE89 (talk) 15:45, 1 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@MCE89, Can I add it in the article? Fade258 (talk) 15:47, 1 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, from a copyright perspective that looks okay. MCE89 (talk) 15:53, 1 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@MCE89. Thank you! Can you please clarify me, If any source is marked as CC BY-SA 1.0, CC BY-NC, CC BY-NC-ND, CC BY-ND and CC BY-NC-SA, even copyvio detector tools doesn't detect still it can be a violation of copyright? Fade258 (talk) 15:56, 1 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Copyvio detectors like Earwig will only pick up direct overlap between words, and won't pick up other types of copyright violations like close paraphrasing and translation copyvio. Tools like Earwig also won't work on some types of sources, e.g. offline sources and many journal articles. For Wikipedia's purposes, non-compatible licenses like CC BY-SA 1.0, CC BY-NC, CC BY-NC-ND, CC BY-ND and CC BY-NC-SA are also essentially treated the same as if the text was not released under a CC license at all. MCE89 (talk) 16:12, 1 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the clarification. Fade258 (talk) 16:17, 1 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I have also checked, as requested in your edit summary, and it looks okay to me too. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 17:30, 1 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Diannaa, Just for knowledge. Can facts information available in copyrighted material can be used? Fade258 (talk) 12:32, 10 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You should use your sources as a source of information, and re-write in your own words what you have learned. Cite your sources. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 13:05, 10 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Diannaa, I mean facts information. For example regarding Hobsonia florida: Its weight, shape, volume etc. Can it be used if that information are available in copyrighted cites? Fade258 (talk) 13:53, 10 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The information can be used, but not the same exact wording. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 20:31, 10 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Diannaa, Thank You ! Fade258 (talk) 02:19, 11 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
