I made a few small edits to Marilyn Robert, my spouse (as noted at the end of this capsule autobiography).
I created the article Edward A. Kramer, a computer graphics pioneer and recent acquaintance, to remedy an unfortunate situation in which users were confusing Mr. Kramer with Edward E. Kramer, a convicted child molester.
I worked as an engineer, primarily in the area of embedded industrial software. I wrote articles for various publications, some work-related but mostly book and CD reviews, mainly for All About Jazz. An occasional classical music then jazz DJ on KLCC/Eugene, from 1983 until the COVID-19 pandemic, these days I play some amateur jazz piano. I enjoy hunting mushrooms in the fall and keying wildflowers in the spring.
I am an avid and eclectic reader, primarily of history both by writers ancient and medieval, and also by contemporary academics; and of fiction, poetry and drama, both in English and in translation. I desultorily maintain a blog summarizing my reading at Homer to Mrabet. More actively, I recently joined the biweekly book sorting group of the Friends of the Eugene Public Library.
I have played various musical instruments for almost my entire life. In 1972, I performed a set with my roommate in the Second Annual Willamette Valley Folk Festival as half of the guitar / vocal / harmonica duo Easy Street; one song appeared on an LP of selections from the concert.[1] Currently I am a piano volunteer at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend. When they furloughed all volunteers as the pandemic gathered strength, I made a few piano videos (with the usual fluffs & rushing) as a practice incentive. You can watch me playing piano at https://www.youtube.com/user/larrykoeni.
