You are making a high number of AfD nominations in Wikipedia:WikiProject Turkey
[edit]Hello Chidgk1. I recently started watching Wikipedia:WikiProject Turkey/Article alerts. You seem to be making a high number of AfDs. Most recent AfDs seem to be from you actually.
Given the Eurocentric bias in English-language Wikipedia (also see: Signpost Are Wikipedia articles representative of Western or world knowledge? ), I am concerned that you are contributing to that.
There are very few Turkish speakers on English-language Wikipedia, and you are much more active than most of them. I'd recommend more time to be given for sources to be found. You also don't seem to try to find sources yourself, for example: Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Orduspor_(women's_basketball). If you are very interested in AfDs in Turkey-related topics, but you don't speak Turkish, you can also try google translate? Bogazicili (talk) 12:55, 7 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hello @Bogazicili I am glad you are watching those alerts.
- Most of the articles I nominated had been tagged years ago for having no sources. So I think there has been plenty of time for sources to be found.
- And as I have also created and improved several articles about Turkey I don’t think I have increased any Eurocentric bias. Chidgk1 (talk) 16:08, 7 January 2025 (UTC)
- Oh ok thanks. I just wanted to draw your attention to that signpost issue and Wikipedia:Systemic bias.
- I might be also in a suspicious Wiki mood lately given the large number of socks in a topic area I'm involved in. I hope you don't take this personally :) Bogazicili (talk) 16:19, 7 January 2025 (UTC)
- Not at all. I am very rarely in Istanbul (maybe once or twice a year) but if you live there we could perhaps meet up some time. Or indeed if you are ever in Samsun Chidgk1 (talk) 16:39, 7 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Bogazicili: just a note that your first linked article appears to code Turkey as European (see for example Turkish appearing in the chart of European languages)... So the "euro" in Eurocentric bias includes Turkey. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 16:35, 7 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Horse Eye's Back I was a bit peeved with https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/jan/06/london-is-europes-most-congested-city-with-drivers-sat-in-traffic-an-average-101-hours-last-year when I looked at the survey and they had classified Istanbul as in Asia. @Bogazicili would know better than me but I suspect most of the Istanbul congestion is on the European side or on the bridges. Chidgk1 (talk) 16:45, 7 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Horse Eye's Back: I had just read the "Main findings summary" on page 6. Bogazicili (talk) 16:57, 7 January 2025 (UTC)

High number of AfD for Turkish train articles
[edit]Hi,
Over the past several months I have noticed you consistently nominate many Turkish railway articles for deletion. It seems your rationale is that they are unsourced, therefore I believe it would be more productive if instead you would bring them the attention of the community instead of nominating them for deletion right away. May I ask why you are doing this? Cheers. (Central Data Bank (talk) 18:18, 22 January 2025 (UTC))
- @Central Data Bank Not specifically rail articles but completely unsourced articles at https://bambots.brucemyers.com/cwb/bycat/Turkey.html#Cites%20no%20sources
- Wikiproject Turkey is not very active but I brought them to the attention of Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Trains/Archive: 2024#Turkey
- Reasons:
- 1) A little bit of relaxation after trying to get GA for other articles.
- 2) If the number of completely unsourced articles tagged with the Turkey Wikiproject are reduced then PERHAPS articles in the project generally will be considered more reliable when AI hoovers up info from Wikipedia. So it MIGHT benefit the project as a whole. Chidgk1 (talk) 06:36, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
- @User:Chidgk1 thanks for clarifying. Unfortunately railway articles on Turkey are not high priority for most so only a handful of users (myself included) take time to edit them, which becomes quite difficult with life getting in the way. Looking through the IZBAN articles, I can see that updates are required for them, as they were created over a decade ago. I have been slowly working on improving them over the past few months, but like I said, I can't promise a timeline. Your most recent tags will be the next articles I source and expand upon. Cheers. Hi! I just wanted to respond about your Help desk question, which got archived off the desk. If I'm understanding things correctly from reading over the Phabricator discussions, you can save default alt text for a media file on Commons (which is what you did), but, Mediawiki (the software behind Wikipedia and all its sister projects) doesn't do anything with it currently. The software has yet to be extended to pull alt text from an "external" source such as Commons.
Unfortunately, at present you'll have to copy-and-paste the alt text over onto English Wikipedia. This could be semi-automated with a userscript, though I'm not aware of one existing; you could dig into it or ask at the tech village pump if interested. I hope that helps clarify things. Thank you for contributing to the projects, and if you have any other questions ask away, or feel free to drop by my talk page in the future! --Slowking Man (talk) 22:52, 26 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thank for explaining Chidgk1 (talk) 06:02, 27 January 2025 (UTC)
The ping seems to have failed, I've seen it once I checked whether the discussion was closed. İzmir–Afyon railway is a main line, thus fullfills the third point on WP:RAILOUTCOMES. But there isn't really a well-established guideline about the stations. I personally do consider any stations on the major suburban networks or metro systems as inherently notable, but really hard to get past behind trivial coverage on the Net, especially on a non-English speaking country. There are few written books on such topics as well, so articles have to rely on non-secondary sources such as forums, blogs, wikis. It still fulfills the WP:GNG and avoiding article creep IMHO.
I felt like I'd write all that down because I've seen other noms, and didn't want to bother with answering these too; yet my reply on Egekent 2 was also vague as well, at least when I read it now&then. I have expected others to take part, but well. Maybe taking a third opinion on the subject would be nice. Regards & have a nice day,
Edit: There also might be some non-trivial but hard-to-cite or omitted stuff on the subject. I was reminded of that after looking at Ayrılık Çeşmesi railway station—I know the station gets frequent coverage as people prefer the station for suicide owing to its name. However the news about suicides are often censored, and thus I don't see a way for citing without original research/self-publishing a primary source, which would violate impartiality and unethical as well. ahmetlii ✉ (Please ping me on a reply!) 22:59, 28 January 2025 (UTC)

Thanks for contributing at Talk:Russian invasion of Ukraine#Requested move 24 February 2025
[edit]Hi. Thanks for contributing to this discussion. Since more than one move has been proposed (Russia-Ukraine war and Russo-Ukrainian war among them) it might be helpful to the closer to indicate which name you favour moving to. Additionally, if you also favour moving the existing Russo-Ukrainian war article (written from a POV that the present war began in 2014), for example to Russo-Ukrainian conflict, you may also wish to indicate this.
I hope you don't mind me responding here to avoid making the discussion there overly-long. Thanks again for your contribution. FOARP (talk) 09:38, 4 March 2025 (UTC)

Completed copyedit!
[edit]I've finally completed my copyedit of Kızılırmak Delta. I definitely went beyond the typical definition of "copyedit" in a few places almost everywhere, but I do think the prose is now clear and concise enough that it shouldn't be a serious barrier to the article's promotion to GA. I've added more comments at Talk:Kızılırmak Delta#Post-copyedit comments. PrinceTortoise (he/him • poke) 07:50, 7 April 2025 (UTC)

Copyediting tip
[edit]Morning. I was just looking at our article on net-zero emissions and noticed that you changed to first sentence to be quite complicated [1]. The construction you've used there is called WP:PLUSING, or a noun + ing structure. This can be an ambiguous structure, but here the problem lies in the fact that the relevant verb takes a while to materialise. By the point people read 'being', you may have lost them already. I believe I've seen you do this before, so wanted to make you aware of the copyediting exercises linked in WP:PLUSING :). —Femke 🐦 (talk) 09:44, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- Ah OK thanks I had not realised that - my feeble excuse is that my writing has been corrupted by hearing Turkish where the verb is the last word in the sentence. Chidgk1 (talk) 07:37, 18 May 2025 (UTC)

AfDs for exonym lists
[edit]Hey Chidgk1,
I'm kinda new to AfDs, so I don't say this with any sort of authority on the subject, but with all the exonym articles you are nominating for deletion, it might make more sense to do a group nomination so that they can receive adequate attention from a larger group of editors. It seems like some might be slipping through the cracks and not generating much discussion.
I only say this as someone who spends a lot of time working on lists and articles for surnames, it would be really distressing to have to defend all of them separately, so I image this could be really meaningful to someone who does the same sort of thing for exonyms. Obviously, it is completely your call, but I wanted to make the suggestion.
Sincerely,
Ike Lek (talk) 05:41, 5 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Ike Lek Good idea but someone else already did that and it was rejected because some are worth keeping Chidgk1 (talk) 06:38, 5 July 2025 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Bördübet
[edit]
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Bördübet requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. PROD
[edit]When you add a PROD template, your message should only give your reason and reference notability or deletion policy. Given your areas of interest, the most relevant ones to you are probably WP:ORG and WP:NPOL. Do not ask rhetorical questions or leave snarky comments addressed to nobody or editors at large. Other editors are less likely to back up your proposals if they think you are not doing things seriously. Yue🌙 07:10, 19 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Yue I just do the prod and afd to relax after doing difficult serious stuff like recreating Coal-fired power station. If anyone wanted to start prods and afds seriously I guess they would try and automate them further. Chidgk1 (talk) 07:35, 19 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Chidgk1: You can still relax and do AfDs and PRODs properly. I assumed in good faith that you understand deletion policy and how to do WP:BEFORE, which is why I merely insisted you have a clear, policy-based PROD message. However, your suggestion that someone who would want to do PRODs and AfDs "seriously ... would try and automate them further" leads me to believe you do not understand WP:BEFORE.
- An article lacking sources presently is not immediate grounds for deletion; you are supposed to conduct a search yourself and conclude that no reliable, in-depth coverage exists. However, a lot of the reasons you give in your PRODs and AfDs amounts to asking for someone else out there to prove notability or just stating that there are no sources.
- Here are two examples of your proposed deletions being undone by different editors because you did not give a proper rationale (by Liz and by Kvng). Starting an improper PROD is wasting the time and effort of two editors, albeit very little; starting an improper AfD is wasting a lot of time and effort for everyone. Yue🌙 18:46, 19 July 2025 (UTC)
- Chidgk1, I take your response as an indication that you don't promise to leave a well thought-out policy-based deletion rationale behind for PRODs and AFDs. This is not an appropriate response to a fellow editor's valid concern. If you are tired at the end of the day, you should not be tagging articles for deletion or doing them carelessly. I just saw a PROD you tagged with the comment "I doubt this is notable". That's not a good reason to delete an article because one editor doesn't think, for the 5 seconds they spent on it, that a subject is notable. BEFOREs are not required for PROD'd articles but you should still have a good, policy-based reason for deletion that is based on more than your doubts.
- And the answer here is not to use more automation but for the tagger (YOU) to be more conscientious when you are considering tagging an article for deletion. You can easily receive a topic ban from deletion tagging if the effort is too much to ask of you. If you don't have the time or attention, then don't tag an article or file for deletion, it's as simple as that. Liz Read! Talk! 22:51, 22 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Liz@Yue You may be interested in discussions I have started at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Unreferenced articles#Roughly what proportion of unreferenced articles have no active projects? and Wikipedia_talk:Proposed_deletion#I_suggest_making_this_easier_for_the_proposer Chidgk1 (talk) 07:10, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- I'm going to start de-PRODding articles that don't have a valid, policy-based deletion rationale provided. "Not much is known about it" is not a valid policy-based deletion rationale. Liz Read! Talk! 19:30, 29 July 2025 (UTC)
- Sure - if there is any doubt just deprod and don’t waste time thinking about it Chidgk1 (talk) 04:37, 30 July 2025 (UTC)

Dear Chidgk 1, you'll be aware I'm trying to keep the Wheat from growing even larger. It is already a long article, and people are capable of raising a GA Review on the grounds of excessive length. Continual additions obviously make the risk of this steadily worse. I spent a good deal of time yesterday, not for the first time, working on reducing the article's length, so it is dispiriting to have yet another length increase this morning. "Worth mentioning" is how one talks when one is trying to build up an article; alternately, we could ask "is this really necessary?" when trying to prevent something from getting ever more seriously overweight. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 06:57, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Chiswick Chap Firstly sorry for temporarily making the GA worse, but I could not see any other way of getting rid of the rubbish that was in the peak wheat article as deleting such articles is very difficult. I think that our changes together have now strengthened Wikipedias coverage of wheat as a whole. Chidgk1 (talk) 07:18, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks. Let's hope so. Chiswick Chap (talk) 07:27, 18 August 2025 (UTC)

AfDs
[edit]My point about PRODs about a month ago is even more important for AfDs. PRODs and AfDs are not processes used to cleanup articles lacking citations. The first consideration when coming upon an unsourced article is adding citations yourself and then proposing deletion after you've checked for sources yourself.
You should not be tagging articles with PRODs that merely state "Not notable" or something similar and then escalating to an AfD with the same non-policy-based reason. You have to explain in detail how you determined something is not notable to show you've done WP:BEFORE. PRODs and AfDs aren't something you do half-heartedly, which you kind of implied in the previous discussion. Your response to another editor at your AfD nomination of Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (Manitoba) reminds me of your attitude in our previous discussion, which is quite dismissive, and it seems you didn't really take what I said about the onus being on you, not other editors, to do WP:BEFORE before nominating articles for deletion. You can make mistakes – I've made a few with AfDs – but you can't then turn that on other editors with comments like "If the provincial branch was as famous as you say then it should be quick and easy for you to cite". Yue🌙 04:08, 1 September 2025 (UTC)
- I came here, @Yue because @Chidgk1 is ignoring their own AFD at CCF MB. Possible the most unnecessary AFD I've ever seen. I hadn't realised this was an ongoing problem - but reading a bit, I see that this has been an ongoing issue for months, if not longer. I can understand a mistake, which is then withdrawn quickly. But for not providing a proper nomination reason and not doing any BEFORE, and refusing to listen to those pointing out how extremely poor an AFD, and skipping the discussion? This seems to be a systemic issue. Is it time for a request at ANI for a topic ban from PROD and AFD? Nfitz (talk) 20:04, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
- @Nfitz: Without prejudice to Chidgk1's intentions (i.e. I assume they're not intentionally trying to be disruptive), I think the discussions here and at their failed proposal to turn PRODs into a form of fast-track cleanup by eliminating the requirement of WP:BEFORE, which they were specifically criticised for, should have made it clear to them that the deletion process is not some minor form of article cleanup, and nobody but themself has a desire to change that.
- To be blunt, I don't think lazily flooding the PROD and AfD system with unjustified nominations as a past-time is helpful to the project because they waste the time of other editors, particularly responding administrators. It's also quite audacious to then respond to critiques by others editors by asking them to do the work for you. If Chidgk1 doesn't want to take the deletion process seriously because they just want to engage with it as a form of relaxation as they have said, then they shouldn't be engaging with it at all. Yue🌙 18:37, 3 September 2025 (UTC)
- Interesting. And digging into their history, I'm pleased to see some excellent editing work. I am troubled though that they find pissing off people by ignoring policy and creating work for otherse is a form of relaxation! Hopefully they can think about the bigger picture of their actions. 02:16, 4 September 2025 (UTC) Nfitz (talk) 02:16, 4 September 2025 (UTC)
- What's an appropriate sanction here? Because this ongoing process of "pissing off people by ignoring policy and creating work for others" has gone on long enough. Andy Dingley (talk) 19:21, 13 September 2025 (UTC)
- @Andy Dingley@Nfitz@Yue OK I have removed twinkle from my gadgets. As far as I can remember I have never done a manual AfD and I never intend to go through such a fiddle.
- As for PROD after doing one or two manually I would be fed up with such typing and would stop for the day.
- I don’t know if it is possible to technically block me from using twinkle, but if so you could do so and have me make some kind of formal request to get it back. I think that would be better as now I can just tick a box to get it back. And if you can technically block me from AfD that would be great. Chidgk1 (talk) 09:18, 14 September 2025 (UTC)
- Interesting. I'm not particularly versed in these topic areas. I'm surprised that they are completely unreferenced. But "underseal", really - how is something that is so well known going to pass any BEFORE? But also - why not just fix the articles (and why do these just languish)? The crawl ratio article is certainly an interesting read. Should the nomination for most of these AFDs be to merge, and not to delete? Anyhow, this is appears to be over ... so I guess we just move on. Nfitz (talk) 18:45, 14 September 2025 (UTC)
