[edit] Hello, I'm Skyllfully. I wanted to let you know that your signature ("sig") design might cause problems for some readers. This is because it violates WP:SIGIMAGE. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines and policy on customising signatures. Thank you. —Skyllfully (talk | contribs) 20:58, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
- Yes. I noticed that and changed it. Here is the new signature that is similar to the one I use at Wikia: Ternera (ᵗᵃˡᵏ!) 21:00, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

I made a profile at the Teahouse yesterday, but don't see it now. Did it get removed? Ternera (ᵗᵃˡᵏ!) 21:07, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
- No problem. You can find you profile at the bottom of the list here, or more specifically here, but after awhile, your profile will get kicked out of the list because of the amount of guests we have all the time. —Skyllfully (talk | contribs) 21:12, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

Patrolling and welcoming
[edit]A note that if you see something on a new page that you're unsure about, it's best to leave it unpatrolled and get a second or third opinion. If you're really unsure, you can direct an admin to it and see what they think. On welcoming new users, always be sure to actually look at their contribs, because some people are just out to vandalize. I've caught probably 10 to 15 vandals that way, and reverted their edits. White Arabian mare (Neigh) 01:04, 23 October 2015 (UTC)
- Oh, ok. I will look at their contribs from now on. Thanks for the tip :) Ternera (ᵗᵃˡᵏ!) 01:05, 23 October 2015 (UTC)
Warning other editors
[edit]Hi Ternera, thank you for all the great work you've been doing :)! Just a note, this warning, while completely okay and functional, may be better served using Twinkle's warning templates. Keep up the great work! samtar {t} 14:59, 24 October 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for the note. I since have designed a new template that can be found at User:Ternera/Warning. It is similar to the other ones people have been using. Do you think it looks good? Ternera (ᵗᵃˡᵏ!) 15:01, 24 October 2015 (UTC)
- No worries - as for your warning template I would recommend sticking to the more common, pre-existing templates such as the ones found at Wikipedia:Warnings. samtar {t} 15:10, 24 October 2015 (UTC)
- Wow, thanks! I didn't even know that was there! Ternera (ᵗᵃˡᵏ!) 15:12, 24 October 2015 (UTC)

Adding a photo
[edit]Hi!
Thanks for your help, and for the welcome!
The page I just added is for a band. Do I need to add "(band)" after the name in the title? I noticed some bands have that and some don't!
Also, any recommendations for adding a photo?
Thank you!
SLOgirl14 (talk) 21:32, 24 October 2015 (UTC)
- @SLOgirl14: Well, I am not familiar with bands...just reverting vandalism and welcoming new users.
I don't think You need to change the name now that you have started the article. What you can do is go to the page called Fialta (Band) and add in this: "#REDIRECT [[Fialta]]". This will automatically send people to the page Fialta when they go to Fialta (Band). Photo: I recommend adding a photo to articles. You can add it by putting [[File:EXAMPLE.jpg|TEXT YOU WANT]]. If you do this, your photo will look something like this:
. Thanks for asking me! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask! Ternera (ᵗᵃˡᵏ!) 22:01, 24 October 2015 (UTC)
Your signature
[edit]Hi Ternera. I saw your new signature, and I'm afraid it runs afoul of the signature guidelines, specifically the length guideline. The guideline recommends keeping signatures short in both display and markup, and, well, yours is on 22 lines in the markup. Would you please shorten it? Howicus (Did I mess up?) 22:50, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Howicus: Thanks for the message. I was looking at my sig just a while ago actually. I put my signature into a template and put the template into my signature preference spot. It should just have the template...right? Instead it is a long line of code. I finally just got my signature how I want it and really would not like to change it at the moment...I don't know how to keep it and not have a long line of code. --Ternera
- I'm afraid transcluded templates aren't allowed in signatures, and substituting a template just makes all the code from the template appear on the page (and it says you shouldn't do that to avoid the other guidelines). You may not be able to do exactly what you want. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 22:59, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
- Ok, I'm working on a new one...not sure if this will fit into the preference sig spot, but I will try. Here is the code: <code><kbd class="keyboard-key nowrap" style="border: 1px solid #aaa; border-radius: 0.2em; box-shadow: 0.1em 0.2em 0.2em #ddd; background-color: #f9f9f9; background-image: linear-gradient(to bottom, #eee, #f9f9f9, #eee); padding: 0.1em 0.3em; font-family: inherit; font-size: 0.85em;">TEXT</kbd></code>, and this is what it will look like: TEXT. Do you think the 3-4 lines are too long still? --Ternera
- I'm not sure, though it's certainly better...if it will fit, I think it's good. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 23:32, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

Pasadena Unified - Sources
[edit]@Ternera, I understand you wanted a source. It was included somewhere in there in a 100 page pdf.
If the format is not what you want, it would have been easier to tag it, rather than revert.
Especially given that most of it was just rewording what I previously wrote.
If it justifies reverting and deleting, you should also be more specific on the section you are refering to. JakesBurger (talk) 23:54, 5 December 2023 (UTC)
- Hello, the reason I reverted it was because the information about Temple City leaving the new Pasadena High School District in 1954 was unsourced. It's best to source information from different places whenever possible. Thanks! Ternera (talk) 02:25, 6 December 2023 (UTC)

Rollback
[edit]
Hi Ternera. After reviewing your request, I have enabled rollback on your account. Please keep the following things in mind while using rollback:
- Being granted rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle or Ultraviolet. It just adds a [Rollback] button next to a page's latest live revision - that's all. It does not grant you any additional "status" on Wikipedia, nor does it change how Wikipedia policies apply to you.
- Rollback should be used to revert clear and unambiguous cases of vandalism only. Never use rollback to revert good faith edits.
- Rollback should never be used to edit war, and it should never be used in a content-related dispute to restore the page to your preferred revision. If rollback is abused or used for this purpose or any other inappropriate purpose, the rights will be revoked.
- Use common sense. If you're not sure about something, ask!
If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Fastily 23:53, 17 December 2023 (UTC)

[edit]In reference, to our conversation about Kris Jenkins (American football, born 2001). He is my son, a football player from the University of Michigan. I retrieved this information from the University of Michigan Roster page which is a legitimate source. Do you have any other suggestions on what I can do to have these updates approved? Thank you so much for your assistance in this situation.

- If you can find a source from their website, that may work. However, Youtube and Instagram are not reliable sources and that's why I reverted the edit. Ternera (talk) 14:21, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks Ternera. If you read the bottom the bio portion at the bottom of the University of Michigan page, both his dad and I noted there. Kris asked me to add myself and some sort of link, because there is a woman who is claiming to be his mom. Would the citation from the University of Michigan roster page be sufficient? I can always remove the link to my Instagram. I usually prefer to be anonymous. Please advise.

Change to a source in Colleen McElroy bio
[edit]Hi Ternera, on Colleen McElroy's biography: The source link toward the top of the references for her HistoryLink.org is dead. I work at HiistoryLink.org and added a live (new) HistoryLink.org link to her bio at the bottom of the references. Why would that have been deleted without checking what it led to? Thank you. - Hello,
- Taking a look at this (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Colleen_J._McElroy&diff=prev&oldid=1190773812) edit, I reverted it because it appeared to be promotional. It may be best if you replace the old external link with the new one rather than trying to add the new link as a reference, but some editors may see it as a conflict of interest since you work at HistoryLink. Thank you. Ternera (talk) 20:41, 22 December 2023 (UTC)

Austin St John
[edit]Austin has not acted since 2020 and is retired from acting. Austin retired being an EMT years ago. There are articles about it. He no longer performs Martial Arts either. I have personally worked with him at comic conventions. I don't need to cite anything from my own personal life. His voice was also not used for Once And Always. Hasbro cut ties with Austin. Only his face is seen at the end of the episode in a Flashback of the memory of Thuy and JDF. 98.5.185.143 (talk) 16:11, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hello, it's understandable that you wish to write content based on your personal experiences with the subject of the article, but information (about an actor's retirement, for example) needs to be properly cited from a trusted source. If you know of any articles online that talk about their retirement and other details, it would be best to include those as sources with your edits or to share them at Talk:Austin St. John and ask for others' opinions first. Stanley Walden Wikipedia update was correct
[edit]I apologize for not having cited the reasoning for the deletion of that sentence. I don't edit on Wikipedia often (almost never) and didn't see the spot to clarify the reasoning.
I communicated with Mr. Walden this morning because I was concerned about an outdated sentence remaining on your site in future tense. Mr. Walden informed me that the Berlin event had not taken place.
As he noted: "That concert was called off..so the proper thing to do would be to delete it." So please re-delete the final sentence about the Berlin concert: "A celebration honoring Walden's work will take place in Berlin in April 2023.
The rest of that paragraph is correct: "In 2022, Walden's career was celebrated across two continents in honor of his 90th birthday. Tributes took place in the United States and Germany: Barge Music in New York City (September), Baltimore Lieder Weekend (October) and Leipzig (November)." New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024
[edit]Hello Ternera,

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.
Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.
Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.
It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!
2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!
WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.
Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.
Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

For the sake of my own curiosity...
[edit]I saw your reversion note for the AnonIP that did the edits to Sky (English/Australian band) - they were still on my temporary watchlist. For giggles I looked at the diff and am curious what you didn't find constructive about it? It appears (at least to me) to be substantial and contributory in nature, and also seems to be well-cited & ref'ed. Granted I know nothing regarding that band - so for all I know it could all be fictional information & cites :) Genuinely curious, thanks! --Picard's Facepalm • Made It So Engage! • 20:47, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @Picard's Facepalm, thanks for bringing that up. I saw the last couple of edits from the IP while I was using Huggle earlier and my initial reaction was that it was vandalism. Taking a closer look, the edits make sense when you see them in context with all of the recent edits. I'm going to revert my edit at this time. Appreciate you checking this. Ternera (talk) 21:15, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- No problem, and thanks for the feedback. I was just curious and had the opportunity to see the totality if the change in the diff. I agree the last few edits may have appeared as odd, when taken out of context for the totality of their edits. I figured to bring the question here rather than on the IPs talk page or in the article. I am good either way - I just wanted to check :) Thanks for taking another look. Wanting my own Wikipedia edited
[edit]I have been trying and trying to edit my own Wikipedia page as you wrote to me about you removing my edit as I didn’t have a reliable source of where the information came from. Thank you Ma03032023 (talk) 15:09, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
- Editing your own Wikipedia page is a WP:COI issue and should be avoided. Just because someone claims to be someone does not mean that they may add any information and say they are a source. Any claims that a person makes need to be backed up with a reliable source that agrees with the claims. Ternera (talk) 15:46, 5 June 2024 (UTC)

Mistakes
[edit]Hi. You have made a mistake in reverting a change to Princess Margaret Hospital, Swindon as not citing sources; as per the summary comment for the change, the additional information was taken from the source that had already been cited. Please revert the removal. Thanks! Patch86UK (talk) 19:33, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Patch86UK, thanks for catching that. Looks like you already reverted the edit, so I'll hold off on doing anything for now. Ternera (talk) 19:47, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
I forgot to include my edit summary for the article on "The Shadow Over Innsmouth," but I have redone the edit (slightly differently than last time) because the description of the character of Zadok Allen was inaccurate; they article says that he was kidnapped an sacrificed, which may have happened but is not confirmed by the actual story. Also, this is a dynamical IP address; the other change you complained about (on Strontium carbonate) was posted by someone else—although probably a professional chemist, since they must be in the same building as me. Community Configuration
[edit]The Growth team released Community Configuration at all Wikipedias. You can access it at Special:CommunityConfiguration
.
This new special page replaces Special:EditGrowthConfig
. For now, all Growth features can be configured using Community Configuration. Configuration for AutoModerator (T365046) and other features will be available in the future.
You can help with translations. The interface translation is done at Translatewiki.net. You can also help translate the documentation.
If you attend Wikimania 2024, please join us for the session about Community configuration's future!
Current work
[edit]Newcomer Homepage Community Updates module
We will add a new Community Configurable module to the Newcomer Homepage that will allow communities to highlight specific events, projects, campaigns, and initiatives. We have released a simple version available to beta wikis. We will conduct an A/B test at our pilot wikis using the new Metrics Platform. We still welcome community feedback on initial designs and plans, in any language at our project talk page.
Future work
[edit]Increase constructive activation on mobile
As part of the Growth team 2024/2025 Annual Plan, the Growth team will explore various ways to increase the percentage of newcomers who successfully start editing.
Editing a Wikipedia page requires too much context and patience. It means many trial and error for newcomers to contribute, meaning a steeper learning curve and potential discouraging reverts. To support a new generation of volunteers, we will increase the number and availability of smaller, structured, and more task-specific editing workflows (E.g. Edit Check and Structured Tasks). The Growth team will primarily focus on Structured Tasks, while working closely with the Editing team to ensure our work integrates well with Edit Check.

[edit] Hi, Ternera. Thanks for patrolling new pages. I've declined your deletion request for a page that you tagged for speedy deletion, because the criterion you used or the reason you gave does not cover this kind of page. Please take a moment to read the new tutorial for patrollers, criteria for speedy deletion, and particularly, the section covering non-criteria. Such pages are best tagged with proposed deletion or proposed deletion for biographies of living persons, or sent to the appropriate deletion discussion. Popular History Of The Santa Fe Trail Is Wrong
[edit]Hi Ternera,
I respectfully believe you made a mistake by removing the external link I added to Santa Fe Trail page. The information I provided is most certainly appropriate for an encyclopedia. I became interested in this subject while researching my 4-times Great Grandfather James Baird, an American entrepreneur and pioneer of the Santa Fe Trail.
Information on this Wikipedia page presents an intentionally narrow interpretation of American history. It propagates an incomplete and culturally offensive historical narrative of the Santa Fe Trail. Exaggerating the importance of William Becknell’s role and his relevance to the Santa Fe Trail distorts historical reality and perpetuates cultural beliefs that bolster Manifest Destiny and American exceptionalism.
I respectfully request that you restore my external link
https://medium.com/@Tewksbury/popular-history-of-the-santa-fe-trail-is-wrong-a31ab61e1de4 on page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Fe_Trail
I also welcome and encourage you to read my article on this subject. Please let me know how you intend to proceed. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Russell Baird (“RB”) Tewksbury
RBTewksbury (talk) 19:58, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @RBTewksbury. Thank you for reaching out. Due to the fact that you are the writer of the external link you added, and also because Medium links are not even allowed as sources per WP:MEDIUM, I reverted your edit. If you do add the link to the article a second time, I will not revert it and instead let someone more familiar with the topic make a decision. Have a good day. Ternera (talk) 20:17, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Ternera,
- Thank you for your prompt reply. And thank you for agreeing to “not revert it and instead let someone more familiar with the topic make a decision”. As a descendant of James Baird and a subject-matter expert on this topic, I am hopeful others will consider my external link addition appropriate for inclusion on Wikipedia.
- Cheers,
- RB RBTewksbury (talk) 21:23, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
Administrators' newsletter – October 2024
[edit]News and updates for administrators from the past month (September 2024).

- Administrator elections are a proposed new process for selecting administrators, offering an alternative to requests for adminship (RfA). The first trial election will take place in October 2024, with candidate sign-up from October 8 to 14, a discussion phase from October 22 to 24, and SecurePoll voting from October 25 to 31. For questions or to help out, please visit the talk page at Wikipedia talk:Administrator elections.
- Following a discussion, the speedy deletion reason "File pages without a corresponding file" has been moved from criterion G8 to F2. This does not change what can be speedily deleted.
- A request for comment is open to discuss whether there is a consensus to have an administrator recall process.
- The arbitration case Historical elections has been closed.
- An arbitration case regarding Backlash to diversity and inclusion has been opened.
- Editors are invited to nominate themselves to serve on the 2024 Arbitration Committee Electoral Commission until 23:59 October 8, 2024 (UTC).

Edit Reversion
[edit]Hello, I just edited the page for Jolmaville and you reverted it because I did not cite a source. In my three revisions I: changed the population - which was incorrect - to be in accordance with the source already cited; corrected the name of one of the sources, which had the name of Marengo instead of Jolmaville; and put in the name of the Bad River Reservation, which had been there in a previous revision and seemingly had been mistakenly removed (in fact, there was an open ended sentence because it had been so obviously removed). The page is objectively incorrect without my revisions, what kind of source do you expect to cite that's not already there? Sean30303 (talk) 15:20, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hey there @Sean30303. I just took a look at the source and see that you are correct. I've reverted my edit - thanks for catching my error! Ternera (talk) 15:29, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
- No problem, thank you Sean30303 (talk) 15:36, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
Administrator Elections: Call for Candidates
[edit]Administrator Elections | Call for Candidates
The administrator elections process has officially started! Interested editors are encouraged to self-nominate or arrange to be nominated by reviewing the instructions at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/October 2024/Call for candidates.
Here is the schedule:
- October 8–14 - Candidate sign-up (we are here)
- October 22–24 - Discussion phase
- October 25–31 - SecurePoll voting phase
Please note the following:
- The requirements to run are identical to RFA—a prospective candidate must be extended confirmed.
- Prospective candidates are advised to become familar with the community's expectations of adminstrators, which are much higher than the minimum requirement of having extended confirmed status. This includes reviewing successful and unsuccessful RFAs, reading the essay Wikipedia:Advice for RfA candidates, and possibly requesting an optional poll on their chances of passing.
- The process will have a one week call for candidates phase, a one week pause to set up SecurePoll, a three-day period of public discussion, followed by 7 days of no public discussion and a private vote using SecurePoll.
- The outcomes of this process are identical to making requests for adminship. There is no official difference between an administrator appointed through RFA or administrator elections.
- Administrator elections are also a valid means of regaining adminship for de-sysopped editors.
Ask any questions about the process at the talk page. A separate user talk message will be sent to official candidates with additional information about the process.
To avoid sending too many messages, this will be the last mass message sent about administrator elections. If you are interested in the process, please make sure to watchlist the appropriate pages. A watchlist notice will be added when the discussion phase opens, and again when the voting phase opens.

Administrator Elections: Discussion phase
[edit]The discussion phase of the October 2024 administrator elections is officially open. As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:
- October 22–24 - Discussion phase
- October 25–31 - SecurePoll voting phase
- November 1–? - Scrutineering phase
During October 22–24, we will be in the discussion phase. The candidate subpages will open to questions and comments from everyone, in the same style as a request for adminship. You may discuss the candidates at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/October 2024/Discussion phase.
On October 25, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close again to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote tallies cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's tally during the election. The suffrage requirements are different from those at RFA.
Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for an indeterminate amount of time, perhaps a week or two. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose). As this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").
Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

Current work
[edit]Newcomer Homepage Community Updates module
We will add a new module to the Newcomer Homepage that will allow communities to highlight specific events, projects, campaigns, and initiatives. We have released a simple version on beta wikis and we will soon start an A/B test on our pilot wikis. This module will only display on the Newcomer Homepage if communities decide to utilize it, so learn how to configure the Community Updates module, or share your thoughts on the project's talk page.

Constructive activation experimentation
After showcasing early design ideas at Wikimania, we conducted user testing of design prototypes. We now aim to engage communities in further discussions and plan to run a targeted experiment, presenting a structured task within the reading view to logged-in new account holders with zero edits.
This Community Configuration extension was developed to help communities customize wiki features to meet their unique needs. The Growth team is now helping other Wikimedia Foundation teams make their products configurable:
- The Moderation Tools team now provides Community Configuration for Automoderator. (T365046)
- Certain Babel extension settings will be configurable soon. (T328171)
Future work
[edit]As part of the Growth team annual plan, we will continue to investigate ways to increase constructive activation on mobile, while also working with Data Products to move forward A/B testing functionality via the Metrics Platform.
Community events
[edit]- Growth team members presented Community Configuration: Shaping On-Wiki Functionality Together at Wikimania (slides). The session recording is available to watch on YouTube. This session provided an update on the Community Configuration project and introduced details about the upcoming features that communities will soon be able to configure. Representatives from the Moderator Tools, Editing, Web, and Campaigns teams shared their plans for utilizing Community Configuration in the future. Following these presentations, the WMF Growth team's Benoît Evellin and Martin Urbanec answered audience questions.

Administrators' newsletter – December 2024
[edit]News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2024).

Interface administrator changes
- Following an RFC, the policy on restoration of adminship has been updated. All former administrators may now only regain the tools following a request at the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard within 5 years of their most recent admin action. U5 and drafts
[edit]Hi, Ternera. I see you already talked to Spicy about this, but since I did tell one of the users involved that I'd follow up with you, I'm still going to check in with a note on U5. In short, it has an exemption for "plausible drafts", which is a phrase that lends itself to a pretty broad interpretation. Please see Wikipedia:What U5 is not for an infopage I wrote on the criterion's misuse, and User:Tamzin/Plausible drafts for my personal standards of what I consider not "plausible". I see that you've started moving encyclopedic content off of userpages, and I think that's a much better approach; it's become the de facto practice of a lot of admins who patrol CAT:U5, when it comes to content that is plausible as a draft but shouldn't really be a userpage. If you're interested, a while ago I made the template {{draftified userpage}} to replace a userpage that has been moved, lest new users get confused. There's also {{subst:uw-draftmoved}} for explaining on their talkpage. Hope all of that's helpful; happy editing. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (they|xe|🤷) 21:04, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hey @Tamzin - thanks so much for the explanation of U5! This makes a lot of sense to me. My apologies for rushing into tagging userpages without taking time to familiarize myself with the process first. I'll do my best to assume good faith in the future and will consider moving pages to sandbox or draftspace before placing a speedy deletion tag. Have a nice day! Administrators' newsletter – January 2025
[edit]News and updates for administrators from the past month (December 2024).
- Following an RFC, Wikipedia:Notability (species) was adopted as a subject-specific notability guideline.
- A request for comment is open to discuss whether admins should be advised to warn users rather than issue no-warning blocks to those who have posted promotional content outside of article space.
- The Nuke feature also now provides links to the userpage of the user whose pages were deleted, and to the pages which were not selected for deletion, after page deletions are queued. This enables easier follow-up admin-actions.
- Following the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections, the following editors have been elected to the Arbitration Committee: CaptainEek, Daniel, Elli, KrakatoaKatie, Liz, Primefac, ScottishFinnishRadish, Theleekycauldron, Worm That Turned.
- A New Pages Patrol backlog drive is happening in January 2025 to reduce the number of unreviewed articles and redirects in the new pages feed. Sign up here to participate!

Administrators' newsletter – March 2025
[edit]News and updates for administrators from the past month (February 2025).

- A request for comment is open to discuss whether AI-generated images (meaning those wholly created by generative AI, not human-created images modified with AI tools) should be banned from use in articles.
- A series of 22 mini-RFCs that double-checked consensus on some aspects and improved certain parts of the administrator elections process has been closed (see the summary of the changes).
- A request for comment is open to gain consensus on whether future administrator elections should be held.
- A new filter has been added to the Special:Nuke tool, which allows administrators to filter for pages in a range of page sizes (in bytes). This allows, for example, deleting pages only of a certain size or below. T378488
- Non-administrators can now check which pages are able to be deleted using the Special:Nuke tool. T376378
- The 2025 appointees for the Ombuds commission are だ*ぜ, Arcticocean, Ameisenigel, Emufarmers, Faendalimas, Galahad, Nehaoua, Renvoy, Revi C., RoySmith, Teles and Zafer as members, with Vermont serving as steward-observer.

Growth Newsletter #33
[edit]
A quarterly update from the Growth team on our work to improve the new editor experience.
This year, the Growth team is exploring ways to help more new account holders start editing—and do so constructively, meaning their edits are not reverted. Our latest experiments include:
- Gradual rollout of "Add a Link" at English Wikipedia – We are gradually introducing the "Add a Link" structured task to newcomers at English Wikipedia (T386029). This serves as a natural A/B test to measure its impact on activation, retention, and revert rates (T382603). Previous experiments on pilot wikis showed that "Add a Link" increases newcomer participation, particularly by helping them make constructive (non-reverted) edits.
- Testing in-article suggestions for first-time editors – Many new account holders want to contribute but don’t know where to start. To help, we’re piloting a feature that surfaces structured task suggestions directly in an article’s read view for brand-new editors (T385343). These suggestions will appear for logged-in users with no edits, providing a clear, simple way to begin contributing that is surfaced while they read.
Newcomers often struggle to find their place in Wikipedia’s collaborative environment. While experienced editors easily discover events like edit-a-thons and writing campaigns, newcomers often miss out.
- To bridge this gap, we launched the Community Updates module for the Newcomer Homepage. This module is disabled by default, allowing Community Admins to decide how (or if) to use it.
- If your community hosts events, consider setting up a Community Update to engage and welcome newcomers! Learn more on Diff. To configure, visit Special:CommunityConfiguration.
Community Configuration is now available across all wikis, including non-Wikipedia projects (T383910). Community Configuration allows admins to customize various features like Growth features and Automoderator for their communities, and more recently the Babel extension now allows admins to modify configuration:
- Babel customization – Admins can now configure Babel settings (T374348), including category naming, automatic category creation, and more. See an example on Wikimedia Commons.
- Upcoming configurable features – Projects exploring community configuration options include: Incident Reporting System (T374113) and Cite backlinks (T378807).
Mentors play a key role in guiding new editors. If you’re interested in mentoring, or turning mentorship on at your wiki, check out the Mentorship FAQ
- Starting February 17, 100% of new accounts at English Wikipedia will be assigned a mentor (T384505).
- At Spanish Wikipedia, on 50% of newcomers get a mentor. Experienced contributors are encouraged to join mentorship so that Spanish Wikipedia can provide a mentor to all new users.
Looking Ahead
[edit]In the coming months, we will continue balancing maintenance work—such as deprecating EditGrowth Config (T367574) and migrating Statslib (T359352) — with user-facing improvements that support new editors and foster the next generation of contributors.

Interface administrator changes
- Following an RfC, administrator elections were permanently authorized on a five-month schedule. The next election will be scheduled soon; see Wikipedia talk:Administrator elections for more information. This is an alternate process to the RfA process and does not replace the latter.
- An RfC was closed with consensus to allow editors to opt-out of seeing "sticky decorative elements". Such elements should now be wrapped in {{sticky decoration wrapper}}. Editors who wish to opt out can follow the instructions at WP:STICKYDECO.
- An RfC has resulted in a broad prohibition on the use of AI-generated images in articles. A few common-sense exceptions are recognized.
- A New Pages Patrol backlog drive is happening in May 2025 to reduce the backlog of articles in the new pages feed. Sign up here to participate!

Growth News #34
[edit]
A quarterly update from the Growth team on our work to improve the new editor experience.
Mentoring new editors
[edit]In February, Mentorship was successfully rolled out to 100% of newcomers on English Wikipedia. Following this milestone, we collaborated with Spanish Wikipedia to expand Mentorship coverage to 70% of new accounts, with plans to reach 85% soon unless concerns are raised by mentors. (T394867)
“Add a Link” Task – Iteration and Experimentation
[edit]Our efforts to improve and scale the “Add a Link” structured task continued across multiple fronts:
- Community Feedback & Model Improvements: We’ve responded to community concerns with targeted changes:
- Restricting access to newer accounts (T393688)
- Some links types were removed to align with recommendations written in the English Wikipedia Manual of Style (T390683)
- Allowing communities to limit “Add a Link” to newcomers (T393771)
- The model used to suggest the links was improved to ease its training (T388258)
- English Wikipedia rollout and A/B test: We increased the rollout to 20% of newcomers, with analysis underway. Preliminary data suggests this feature makes new account holders more likely to complete an unreverted edit. (T386029, T382603)
- Surfacing Structured Tasks: An experiment where we show “add a link” suggestions to newly registered users while they are reading an article is running on pilot wikis (French, Persian, Indonesian, Portuguese, Egyptian Arabic). Initial results are under analysis. (T386029)
Newcomer Engagement Features
[edit]- “Get Started” notification: Engineering is in progress for a new notification (Echo/email) to encourage editing among newcomers with zero edits. Early research shows this type of nudge is effective. (T392256)
- Confirmation email: We are exploring ways to simplify and improve the initial account confirmation email newly registered users receive. (T215665)
Community Configuration Enhancements
[edit]Communities can now manage which namespaces are eligible for Event Registration via Community Configuration. (T385341)
Annual Planning
[edit]The Wikimedia Foundation’s 2025–2026 Annual Plan is taking shape. The Growth and Editing teams will focus on the Contributor Experiences (WE1) objective, with a focus on increasing constructive edits by editors with fewer than 100 cumulative contributions.
Get Involved
[edit]We value your insights and ideas! If you would like to participate in a discussion, share feedback, or pilot new features, please reach out on the relevant Phabricator tasks or at our talk page, in any language.

Administrators' newsletter – July 2025
[edit]News and updates for administrators from the past month (June 2025).

Interface administrator changes
- Following a talk page discussion, speedy deletion criterion G13 has been amended to remove "Userspace with no content except the article wizard placeholder text."
- WP:Manual of Style/Superscripts and subscripts was upgraded to a guideline following a RfC discussion.
- The 2025 Developing Countries WikiContest will run from 1 July to 30 September. Sign up now!
- Administrator elections will take place this month. Administrator elections are an alternative to RFA that is a gentler process for candidates due to secret voting and multiple people running together. The call for candidates is July 9–15, the discussion phase is July 18–22, and the voting phase is July 23–29. Get ready to submit your candidacy, or (with their consent) to nominate a talented candidate!
Thanks for the rename!
[edit]I truly appreciate that, but, there was the need to keep my previous user page as a redirect? I think it should be deleted... TankFighter88 (talk) 20:57, 8 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hey @TankFighter88 - it is kept as a redirect in case someone clicks on your username from your signature before the rename. That way it will redirect anyone who clicks on it to your new name. Ternera (talk) 22:03, 8 July 2025 (UTC)
Administrator Elections | Call for Candidates
[edit]The administrator elections process has officially started! Interested editors are encouraged to self-nominate or arrange to be nominated by reviewing the instructions at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/July 2025/Candidates.
Here is the schedule:
- July 9–15 - Call for candidates
- July 18–22 - Discussion phase
- July 23–29 - SecurePoll voting phase
Please note the following:
- The requirements to run are identical to RFA—a prospective candidate must be extended confirmed.
- Prospective candidates are advised to become familiar with the community's expectations of administrators, which are much higher than the minimum requirement of having extended confirmed status. This includes reviewing successful and unsuccessful RFAs, reading the essay Wikipedia:Advice for RfA candidates, and possibly requesting an optional poll on their chances of passing.
- The process will have a seven day call for candidates phase, a two day pause, a five day discussion phase, and a seven day private vote using SecurePoll. Discussion and questions are only allowed on the candidate pages during the discussion phase.
- The outcome of this process is identical to making a request for adminship. There is no official difference between an administrator appointed through RFA versus administrator elections.
- Administrator elections are also a valid means of regaining adminship for de-sysopped editors.
Ask any questions about the process at the talk page. A separate user talk message will be sent to official candidates with additional information about the process.
If you are interested in the process, please make sure to watchlist the appropriate pages. A watchlist notice will be added when the discussion phase opens, and again when the voting phase opens.

- July 23–29 - SecurePoll voting phase
- July 30–c. Aug 3 - Scrutineering phase
We are currently in the discussion phase. The candidate subpages are open to questions and comments from everyone, in the same style as a request for adminship. You may discuss the candidates at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/July 2025/Discussion phase.
On July 23, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close again to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's totals during the election. You must be extended confirmed to vote.
Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last approximately four days, or perhaps a little longer. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (you may want to watchlist this page) and transcluded to the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and must also have received a minimum of 20 support votes. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").
Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

Administrator Elections | Voting phase
[edit]The voting phase of the July 2025 administrator elections has started and continues until July 29 at 23:59 UTC. You can participate in the voting phase at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/July 2025/Voting phase.
As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:
- July 23–29 – Voting phase
- July 30–c. Aug 3 – Scrutineering phase
In the voting phase, the candidate subpages will close to public questions and discussion, and everyone who qualifies to vote will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's vote total during the election. The suffrage requirements are similar to those at RFA.
Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for approximately four days, perhaps longer. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (this is a good page to watchlist), and transcluded to the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and a minimum of 20 support votes. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").
Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

Administrators' newsletter – August 2025
[edit]News and updates for administrators from the past month (July 2025).
- Following a request for comment, a new speedy deletion criterion, G15, has been enacted. It applies to pages generated by a large language model (LLM) without human review.
- Following a request for comment, there is a new policy outlining the granting of permissions to view the IP addresses of temporary accounts. Temporary account deployment on the English Wikipedia is currently scheduled for September 2025, and editors can request access to the permission ahead of time. Admins are encouraged to keep an eye on the request page; there will likely be a flood of editors requesting the permission when they realize they can no longer see IP addresses.
- Administrators can now restrict the "Add a Link" feature to newcomers. The "Add a Link" Structured Task helps new account holders get started with editing. Administrators can configure this setting in the Community Configuration page.
- The arbitration case Indian military history has been closed.
- South Asia (WP:CT/SA) is designated a contentious topic. The topic area is specifically defined as
All pages related to the region of South Asia (India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal), broadly construed, including but not limited to history, politics, ethnicity, and social groups.
- The contentious topic designations for Sri Lanka (SL) and India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan (IPA) are folded into this new contentious topic.
- The community-authorized general sanctions regarding South Asian social groups (GS/CASTE) are rescinded and folded into this new contentious topic.
- South Asia (WP:CT/SA) is designated a contentious topic. The topic area is specifically defined as
- The arbitration case Article titles and capitalisation 2 has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case closed on 31 July.
- The arbitration case Transgender healthcare and people has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case will close on 11 August.
