Email

[edit]

Hello. I have received your email from Wikipedia containing (among others) the message that you noticed I had set some IP ban.

I am not a Wikipedia admin, so I could not ban or block any IP here. If you were speaking about some other project, could you write, which project and which IP you mean? -- Jan Kameníček (talk) 22:03, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

To my knowledge, you banned my IP address for two years, but Wikipedia didn't tell me why. Obviously this is out of character for a man on the other half of the world who only ever tried to help me. If I find the message, I'll fwd it to you. Shushimnotrealstooge (talk) 22:23, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I was the one with the cavalier attitude who wanted to format the rest of Lenin's work to the English Wikisource. Shushimnotrealstooge (talk) 22:25, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the discussion you are probably referring to took place at s:Author talk:Vladimir Ilyich Lenin. As far as I can see, none of the IPs which were communicating there, has been blocked. Recently, I have blocked some different IPs for problems not related to the mentioned discussion. It would be helpful if you could write me, which IP you are trying to contribute from, so that I could consider its unblocking. BTW, your account Shushimnotrealstooge has not been blocked there either. -- Jan Kameníček (talk) 22:47, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Look at the IP address that uploaded "One Step forward, two Steps back". That's one of the addresses that you blocked and I need you to tell me why. Shushimnotrealstooge (talk) 00:24, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sometimes it may happen that an IP is innocently blocked because of a block of some wider IP ranges, so if we find out that it is the case, we can narrow the range so that your IP is not affected. But the page s:One Step Forward, Two Steps Back (The Crisis in Our Party) was created by the IP 2603:7000:d03a:5895:a978:f848:5ad2:920a and this IP has never been blocked and is not within the range of any blocked IPs. Now I have unblocked some recently blocked IP ranges to see if it helps. If it does not, I will need to know exactly the IP address affected by the block. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 10:36, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Thomas Devyr (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is:

  • a disambiguation page with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" which lists only one extant Wikipedia page (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • a disambiguation page that lists zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • a redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" whose target is neither a disambiguation page nor page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. QEnigma (talk) 05:06, 16 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Honestly, I second this. Thomas Ainge Devyr is interesting enough in the context of the Anti-Rent War, but I don't know that he justifies a biography and a large, Wikipedia-style encyclopedia entry. Shushimnotrealstooge (talk) 15:01, 17 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Your submission at Articles for creation: Thomas Ainge Devyr (June 19)

[edit]
Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Rambley was:
This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved.

Hello, I saw this [1], but hardly anyone else will ever see this message. I recommend you ask for help at WT:KO instead. [edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Simonm223 (talk) 18:44, 20 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Other editors at Zohran Mamdani have given you clear, policy derived, justifications for the removal of that text. Edit warring in a WP:BLP is unwise in the extreme. I strongly recommend you go to article talk and discuss rather than making any further reverts. Simonm223 (talk) 18:45, 20 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
On whose behalf did you write to me? I have addressed two editors on their talk pages, and I will respond to both of them when they respond to me. Shushimnotrealstooge (talk) 20:25, 20 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I need help with combative, inflammatory users

[edit]

Hello,

I edited Wikipedia in the past from time to time, but I have only regularly edited under a username for about a week. Bear in mind that no one showed me how to e-mail users privately or to mute them, nor have they given me that grace, so ignorance compelled me to fight these users in the open and to gain even more unwanted attention. Let me restate that this happened over the course of a week.

The user base shows an inability to adapt new users' ideas to Wikipedia's standards. For example, the New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani has promised a rent freeze, which is ambiguous. Does this mean city-wide rent control, which would de-incentivise the building of affordable housing; or does this mean that New York will not allow rent-stabilised housing, which means apartments where the city arbitrates the rent between tenants and landlords, to raise the rent for a few years, exercising the power states have over every other utility? This is a massive difference. The user base could not address this question beyond "no original research" and taking the particular wording of the Mamdani campaign as Scripture. Now this mob has threatened my access to contribute to Wikipedia articles and even the Wiktionary on the grounds that as they have not given me any guidance, I don't know what to do.

Let me point out also that as I edit from a $100 microcomputer and don't know a thing about computers, I can't pursue this further, but when you play 4chan games, you win 4chan prizes. I would hate for Wikipedia to reach a point where bad actors leak names and home addresses and people really start hounding you for answers. --Shushimnotrealstooge (talk) 01:30, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Can you clarify what you're actually looking for administrative help with? Administrators don't rule on content so there isn't much I can do about the central paragraph, though if you link to that discussion I can try to help you understand what's going on. Regarding speaking privately versus publicly, and being able to "mute" other users, I think you may be expecting something more like a social network, but that's not what Wikipedia is. We keep our conversations about content open and public, and there is no way to "mute" anyone else. Everyone is expected to work together to build the encyclopedia. I don't have any idea what you mean by your last two sentences. If someone is threatening to dox you, please link to the comment where they are doing that and I will take care of it. -- asilvering (talk) 02:44, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Asilvering: see for example User talk:Springee#Do you have a history with @Simonm223? for what this user is on about. They're not complaining about doxxing, they're threatening to do the doxxing themselves if they don't get their way.
@Shushimnotrealstooge: several experienced users have given you ample, kind advice, and resources you can read for more information. You have only responded with threats and picking fights. I'm not here to give you more advice, I'm here to warn you that Wikipedia is not a battleground, you are required to treat others with respect, and if you do not start taking some of the friendly advice you have been given then you are on a path to being blocked from editing.
If you feel that your content concerns are not being fairly addressed by editors on a talk page, please refer to the guide at Wikipedia:Dispute resolution for some of your options. If you need help with anything else, please do not be afraid to ask at the village pump or the teahouse, or use the {{helpme}} or {{admin help}} templates on this page. Thank you. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 15:32, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I've received your email threatening to doxx me, and that is all I have the patience for. Harassment is not tolerated on Wikipedia, full stop, and your propensity for immediately resorting to threats whenever anyone has any sort of feedback for you shows that you are not capable of editing a collaborative project. I am done trying to explain things to you; the block notice I am about to put here will have instructions to appeal. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 23:00, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
