Draft:Thomas Ainge Devyr

Thomas Ainge Devyr (1805-1887)[1] was an Irish-American Chartist, author, journalist, and organiser of the Anti-Rent War. In April 1845, he founded The Albany Freeholder, a newspaper printed in the captial of the U.S. state of New York, to justify protests against predatory leases given by large landholders to tenants on poor soil west of the Hudson River.[2] By August 1845, Whig rivals had forced him out of the Freeholder, and he founded The Anti-Renter, an explicitly class-conscious newspaper.
