Cite Unseen September 2025 updates

[edit]

Hello! Thank you for using Cite Unseen. We are excited to share details about a big update we just deployed. With grant support from Wikimedia CH, we've added several new features, including a citation filtering dashboard, settings dialog, support for localization, and the ability to easily suggest domain categorizations. Cite Unseen now also lives on Meta Wiki, as part of our effort to serve all Wikimedia projects. Our source lists are now also on Meta-Wiki, where they can be collaboratively edited by the community.

Please see our newsletter on Meta-Wiki for full details. If you have feature ideas, notice any issues with our new updates, or have any questions, please get in touch via our project talk page. Thank you!

Draft:Jharkhand Day

[edit]

I see you left a comment on the draft: Jharkhand Day.I know a lot of the news citations might look similar and even the headlines can seem familiar, but if you actually read through the articles, they do back up the points I’ve written. Some of them mention the political leaders involved in the state’s creation, while others don’t. That’s why I included most of them, to cover all angles.

Still if you want me to remove any particular one, do point out.

Thanks! Flashthomsom (talk) 09:59, 15 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Flashthomsom Sorry, I was unclear - by “do not work” I meant that the URLs take me to error pages, so I cannot verify the information. -- NotCharizard 🗨 10:46, 15 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Which one exactly? Do let me know so i can fix it Flashthomsom (talk) 11:40, 15 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Got it. I replaced that dead citation with the new one Flashthomsom (talk) 12:05, 15 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello NotCharizard! I would like you to keep my edit to the Lawton, Kansas page, there is a church in the town, itś one of few in the town and i would appreciate you reinstating my edit! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 169.244.83.194 (talk) 12:45, 18 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You added the information to a citation template, which will not show up the article. If you re-add the text to the main body of the article and add a source, it will be all good :) -- NotCharizard 🗨 12:48, 18 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Ok! Thank you for understanding, Im new to this, but i added some thing to the page of Wells, Maine and it was removed, do you have any idea why? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 169.244.83.194 (talk) 13:29, 18 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You didn't add any sources that are reliable. ~~169,244,113.129 169.244.113.129 (talk) 14:34, 18 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

J Fred Scott

[edit]

Hi! You had made an edit to a page where you deleted a lot of the family history due to the fact that when I had edited I did not reference it correctly due to the fact that I have no exact references other than the fact that he is my great grandpa. He was my grandpas (Fred Scott III) dad. You deleted two of my family members, one of which was my great uncle who died in a plane crash which is just simply offensive. This was my first and only page I have ever edited so I did not know how to reference. If you could figure out how to put back my families information and not erase part of my family that would be great. Isabelles.Scott (talk) 02:07, 21 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Isabelles.Scott The information cannot be re-added unless you have a reference. Anyone can say “this person is related to me, so please trust me”. -- NotCharizard 🗨 03:30, 21 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I can quite literally send you photos of this man that I have in my house. I have entire photo albums from him. I have his diary from the Second World War. It is not like I am making this up. I also have my grandpas obituary which references his dad which I can easily send to you. Isabelles.Scott (talk) 03:51, 21 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Isabelles.Scott It is not a matter of personally convincing me about this, I am sorry but I do not even knowing what article you are talking about. Verifiable references are just the community decided guidelines. See Wikipedia:Verifiability for more information. If you have verifiable references, use them - if not, then I can not do anything to help. -- NotCharizard 🗨 08:57, 21 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Guide to temporary accounts

[edit]

Hello, Notcharizard. This message is being sent to remind you of significant upcoming changes regarding logged-out editing.

Starting 4 November, logged-out editors will no longer have their IP address publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account (TA) associated with their edits. Users with some extended rights like administrators and CheckUsers, as well as users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will still be able to reveal temporary users' IP addresses and all contributions made by temporary accounts from a specific IP address or range.

How do temporary accounts work?

Editing from a temporary account
  • When a logged-out user completes an edit or a logged action for the first time, a cookie will be set in this user's browser and a temporary account tied with this cookie will be automatically created for them. This account's name will follow the pattern: ~2025-12345-67 (a tilde, year of creation, a number split into units of 5).
  • All subsequent actions by the temporary account user will be attributed to this username. The cookie will expire 90 days after its creation. As long as it exists, all edits made from this device will be attributed to this temporary account. It will be the same account even if the IP address changes, unless the user clears their cookies or uses a different device or web browser.
  • A record of the IP address used at the time of each edit will be stored for 90 days after the edit. Users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will be able to see the underlying IP addresses.
  • As a measure against vandalism, there are two limitations on the creation of temporary accounts:
    • There has to be a minimum of 10 minutes between subsequent temporary account creations from the same IP (or /64 range in case of IPv6).
    • There can be a maximum of 6 temporary accounts created from an IP (or /64 range) within a period of 24 hours.

How to enable IP Reveal

Impact for administrators

  • It will be possible to block many abusers by just blocking their temporary accounts. A blocked person won't be able to create new temporary accounts quickly if the admin selects the autoblock option.
  • It will still be possible to block an IP address or IP range.
  • Temporary accounts will not be retroactively applied to contributions made before the deployment. On Special:Contributions, you will be able to see existing IP user contributions, but not new contributions made by temporary accounts on that IP address. Instead, you should use Special:IPContributions for this (see a video about IPContributions in a gallery below).

Rules about IP information disclosure

  • Publicizing an IP address gained through TAIV access is generally not allowed (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 previously edited as 192.0.2.1 or ~2025-12345-67's IP address is 192.0.2.1).
  • Publicly linking a TA to another TA is allowed if "reasonably believed to be necessary". (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 and ~2025-12345-68 are likely the same person, so I am counting their reverts together toward 3RR, but not Hey ~2025-12345-68, you did some good editing as ~2025-12345-67)
  • See Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer § What can and can't be said for more detailed guidelines.

Useful tools for patrollers

  • It is possible to view if a user has opted-in to view temporary account IPs via the User Info card, available in Preferences → Appearance → Advanced options → Tick Enable the user info card
    • This feature also makes it possible for anyone to see the approximate count of temporary accounts active on the same IP address range.
  • Special:IPContributions allows viewing all edits and temporary accounts connected to a specific IP address or IP range.
  • Similarly, Special:GlobalContributions supports global search for a given temporary account's activity.
  • The auto-reveal feature (see video below) allows users with the right permissions to automatically reveal all IP addresses for a limited time window.

Articles for Creation backlog drive

[edit]

Hello Notcharizard:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive in December!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than half a month of outstanding reviews from the current 2+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 December 2025 through 31 December 2025.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.
There is a backlog of over 3000 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 06:07, 23 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Warning icon

The page Alin Jose Perera has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done under section R2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it was a redirect from the article namespace to a different namespace except the Category, Template, Wikipedia, Help, or Portal namespaces.

Please do not recreate the material without addressing these concerns, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If you think this page should not have been deleted for this reason, you may contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you may open a discussion at Wikipedia:Deletion review. Thank you! I'm not sure if this is just a poor template, it sounds like it's addressing me as the creator when I'm the person who requested the deletion and drafitied. I suppose it's just for everyone who edited the article in any way. -- NotCharizard 🗨 07:37, 26 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

December 2025

[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Regarding your recent edits to Grey (settlement) when you modified the page, you introduced unknown parameters. Just because you specify |some_param=some_variable does not always mean that variable will display. The |some_param= must be defined in the template. You can look at the documentation for the template you are using but it is also helpful to use the preview button before you save your edit; this helps you find any errors you have made and ensure that the values you have added are displaying correctly. Below the edit box is a Show preview button. Pressing this will show you what the page will look like without actually saving it. It is strongly recommended that you use this before saving. Note I have likely fixed the error by now so check the history of the page to see how it was fixed. If you have any questions, contact the help desk for assistance. Thank you. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 16:11, 4 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Zackmann08 Thanks for the message and letting me know, I totally forgot about that! I think this is a template message, but I understand that adding random parameters to templates will not work, I added “annual rainfall” specifically because the documentation for Template:Infobox settlement lists it as a parameter. I tried to get it to work but after a few attempts I left it for later and then forgot, sorry about that.
Do you know if it’s meant to be in the documentation, or if it got added in on accident somehow? I assume because you deleted it that maybe it’s not a real parameter but that someone could have added it to the documentation without properly adding it to the template?
Thank you again! -- NotCharizard 🗨 01:51, 5 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Wowww. No idea how the heck that ended up in the documentation but that is plain wrong. Fixing it now! Good find! Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 01:56, 5 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
