Lotte Reiniger and sand animation

[edit]

Hello! I noticed you removed a reference to Lotte Reiniger's film Adventures of Prince Achmed as one of the first documented uses of sand in animation. While Reiniger primarily animated silhouette cutouts, Walter Ruttmann created background special effects with sand, clay and wax underneath her cut-outs. This is documented in a studio photograph included in “Experimental Animation” by Cecil Starr and Robert Russett (1976), the image being reprinted in the book "Fluid Frames, Experimental Animation with Sand, Clay, Paint and Pixels (2016) (Full disclosure: I wrote the book Fluid Frames). The image is not widely available on the internet but you can see it as the second image in this post https://www.instagram.com/mosmapdx/p/CmbsdhEL2Lf/?img_index=2

I will be putting this information back in but will clarify the use of sand in background effects only since I can see how it might have been misleading. whiogirl (talk) 17:29, 4 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Cfparks. The text was removed because it was added without any citation to a reliable source and so appeared to be original research. There is no problem if a reliable published source that discusses the information is included. Thanks for your explanation. Cheers. CactusWriter (talk) 00:33, 5 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Sitting Duck

[edit]

Hi, thanks for your speedy of User:Sitting duck. I've just noticed a previous speedy deletion in February 2008, on the same grounds. Could you tell me if a) I was involved in that previous speedy? and b) was there any similarity between the vandalism then and the recent vandalism? There's a very faint bell ringing that makes me wonder if there is a connexion. DuncanHill (talk) 01:50, 5 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of wesean student federation

[edit]

Hey

I wanted to ask for a deletion review of the page Wesean student federation. I feel there has been substantial sources available from the time we first discussed its deletion. So if possible could you help me retrieve the contents of the deletion?

thanks

~~~ Flyingphoenixchips (talk) 01:52, 6 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Flyingphoenixchips, the article has been draftified at Draft:Wesean Student Federation where you can edit and improve it. When it has been improved, do not move it to main space yourself. Submit it for review. Good luck with your editing. CactusWriter (talk) 03:46, 6 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Deletion discussion of Article Wesean Student Federation
[edit]
Greetings, I am reaching out regarding a situation surrounding the article in question. There was a prior disagreement over content additions, and while I eventually chose not to pursue further discussion due to its futility, the article has now been nominated for deletion without a clear or valid reason provided ( WP:AFD for deletion nomination guidelines). Previously, editors had attempted to tamper with the citations, adding unnecessary tags despite the references being verified as reliable and meeting WP:RS and WP:V standards. Additionally, there were efforts to add quality-related tags questioning the article's notability, even though it satisfied the criteria outlined under WP:GNG (General Notability Guideline). Now, in reviewing the deletion discussion, I have observed unusual activity. There appear to be newly created accounts participating in the discussion, potentially skewing the results. This raises concerns about WP:SOCK violations, as it seems plausible these accounts could be sock puppets of the same editors who previously pushed a specific point of view (contrary to WP:NPOV). I kindly request a thorough review of this matter to ensure adherence to Wikipedia's policies and prevent any misuse of the platform. Thank you for your attention.Flyingphoenixchips (talk) 18:28, 15 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I had already tagged the SPA accounts at the AFD. So, yes, I am currently aware that there is questionable activity at both the article and the AFD. CactusWriter (talk) 18:38, 15 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia Page Creation – Invicta Racing (FIA Formula 2)
[edit]
Dear CactusWriter,
I am reaching out because I would like to create a new and separate page for Invicta Racing, which now operates as an independent FIA Formula 2 team following its full acquisition by Invicta Watch Group.
I have attempted to create a page for Invicta Racing in the past, but it was taken down by yourself. I was wondering why it was removed and what steps I need to take to ensure that the Invicta Racing page is not flagged or taken down in the future.
Below are some key details supporting the justification for Invicta Racing to have its own page.
Previously known as Virtuosi Racing, the team has undergone a complete transition, with Invicta Watch Group acquiring 100% ownership and fully integrating the team into its brand portfolio. This acquisition has resulted in a distinct identity, separate leadership, and a new branding strategy. As a result, Virtuosi Racing no longer exists as a team, and Invicta Racing now operates under a new name, structure, and ownership.
To ensure accurate and up-to-date information on Wikipedia, we propose creating a dedicated Invicta Racing page that reflects these significant organizational and structural changes.
The transformation of the team has been well-documented by official press releases and news sources, confirming the ownership change and the new leadership team. Below are some key sources that verify this transition:
Official Press Release - Invicta Watch Group Acquires 100% of Invicta Racing (March 5, 2025)
https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/invicta-watch-group-expands-invicta-racing-reach-with-complete-team-ownership-302393201.html?tc=eml_cleartime
This press release officially confirms the acquisition and outlines the new structure of the team.
Official Team Announcement - New Leadership Structure (March 4, 2025)
https://invictaracing.com/post/invicta-racing-announces-new-senior-leadership-structure-for-2025-season
This article details the new leadership appointments, including James Robinson as CEO & Team Principal and Geoff Spear as Team Manager, further distinguishing Invicta Racing from its previous identity as Virtuosi Racing.
Official Website – Invicta Racing
www.invictaracing.com
The team’s official website provides further details about its current drivers, operations, and branding under Invicta Watch Group.
I am happy to provide additional references and work collaboratively to ensure the Wikipedia page meets the platform’s notability and sourcing guidelines. Please let me know how best to proceed with this request.
Thank you for your time and consideration. Rytannehill17 (talk) 11:55, 11 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Rytannehill17. I assume the article that you previously created was Draft:Invicta Racing. It was tagged and then deleted because it duplicated the topic already present at Virtuosi Racing. I note that this issue was previously discussed with you here in December. A suggestion was made in that discussion that you could propose Wikipedia:Splitting the article through a discussion at Talk:Virtuosi Racing. That is the proper method to resolve content disputes. Why have you not pursued that? CactusWriter (talk) 17:19, 11 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Guideline and policy news
  • Following a request for comment, a new speedy deletion criterion, G15, has been enacted. It applies to pages generated by a large language model (LLM) without human review.
  • Following a request for comment, there is a new policy outlining the granting of permissions to view the IP addresses of temporary accounts. Temporary account deployment on the English Wikipedia is currently scheduled for September 2025, and editors can request access to the permission ahead of time. Admins are encouraged to keep an eye on the request page; there will likely be a flood of editors requesting the permission when they realize they can no longer see IP addresses.
Hey, can you drafity Damián van der Vaart, just made his professional debut and has more coverage now so should pass GNG.--Ortizesp (talk) 02:38, 10 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Ortizesp. Per your request, I've created a draft version at Draft:Damián van der Vaart. I note that the player's article was originally AFD'd because they were a youth club player and it seems that they are still only on a Ajax youth club. But I'm not that familiar with football players so perhaps you might want to check with the original AFD opener Black Kite or other Wikipedia Football AFD participants like GiantSnowman to see if this player now passes NFOOTY. Best CactusWriter (talk) 23:55, 10 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Arbitration
  • After a motion, arbitration enforcement page protections no longer need to be logged in the AELOG. A bot now automatically posts protections at WP:AELOG/P. To facilitate this bot, protection summaries must include a link to the relevant CT page (e.g. [[WP:CT/BLP]]), and you will receive talk page reminders if you forget to specify the contentious topic but otherwise indicate it is an AE action.
Hi, just checking with you. Your edit summary said: decline CSD tag: it's invalid for user talk pages; remove inappropriate draft text on talk page.
Am I interpreting WP:GCSD incorrectly? "These apply to every type of page with exclusions listed for specific criteria, and so apply to articles, drafts, redirects, user pages, talk pages, files, etc."
The user is trying their very best to self promote themself in articles, their user page, talk page, sandbox, etc. Equine-man (talk) 23:53, 15 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Equine-man. User Talk pages are rarely speedy deleted (See WP:DELTALK). This is because the page often contains previous warnings, discussions, etc., that are useful for assessing a user's history. Of course, anything that is seriously inappropriate can be removed or, if necessary, revdel'ed. With new users like the one you refer to, I usually give them some opportunity to self-correct after the warnings and deletion for User Page. If this user continues to use their account only for self-promotion then they will be blocked. And any continuation of using their user talk page for adding "pseudo articles" about themselves can further result in blocking their talk page access. CactusWriter (talk) 19:25, 16 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for taking the time to reply, I will be mindful in future. Equine-man (talk) 20:16, 16 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I see that you deleted Draft:Time delay stability. Did you read the talk page where I dropped in the notice which reads in part:
This is an open-access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY). S Philbrick(Talk) 20:01, 16 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Sphilbrick. Yes, I read what you had said, but noticed that you hadn't removed the CSD tag, and then took a look at the source page. I guess I was a bit confused by it. Although Frontiers state here that they are CC-BY-4.0 licensed. They also placed a "© 2025 Frontiers Media S.A. All rights reserved" statement at the bottom of the online page. So I've taken another look now. I see that the downloadable PDF version of the article was published in Frontier's Journal of Fractal and Network Physiology and is clearly labeled "Open Access." I agree with your assessment. I've restored the page and removed the CSD tag. Although I'm not sure that copying the entire article is suitable for a Wikipedia page, it isn't a copyright violation. Guide to temporary accounts
[edit]
Hello, CactusWriter. This message is being sent to remind you of significant upcoming changes regarding logged-out editing.
Starting 4 November, logged-out editors will no longer have their IP address publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account (TA) associated with their edits. Users with some extended rights like administrators and CheckUsers, as well as users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will still be able to reveal temporary users' IP addresses and all contributions made by temporary accounts from a specific IP address or range.
How do temporary accounts work?
Editing from a temporary account
  • When a logged-out user completes an edit or a logged action for the first time, a cookie will be set in this user's browser and a temporary account tied with this cookie will be automatically created for them. This account's name will follow the pattern: ~2025-12345-67 (a tilde, year of creation, a number split into units of 5).
  • All subsequent actions by the temporary account user will be attributed to this username. The cookie will expire 90 days after its creation. As long as it exists, all edits made from this device will be attributed to this temporary account. It will be the same account even if the IP address changes, unless the user clears their cookies or uses a different device or web browser.
  • A record of the IP address used at the time of each edit will be stored for 90 days after the edit. Users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will be able to see the underlying IP addresses.
  • As a measure against vandalism, there are two limitations on the creation of temporary accounts:
    • There has to be a minimum of 10 minutes between subsequent temporary account creations from the same IP (or /64 range in case of IPv6).
    • There can be a maximum of 6 temporary accounts created from an IP (or /64 range) within a period of 24 hours.
Temporary account IP viewer user right
How to enable IP Reveal
Impact for administrators
  • It will be possible to block many abusers by just blocking their temporary accounts. A blocked person won't be able to create new temporary accounts quickly if the admin selects the autoblock option.
  • It will still be possible to block an IP address or IP range.
  • Temporary accounts will not be retroactively applied to contributions made before the deployment. On Special:Contributions, you will be able to see existing IP user contributions, but not new contributions made by temporary accounts on that IP address. Instead, you should use Special:IPContributions for this (see a video about IPContributions in a gallery below).
Rules about IP information disclosure
  • Publicizing an IP address gained through TAIV access is generally not allowed (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 previously edited as 192.0.2.1 or ~2025-12345-67's IP address is 192.0.2.1).
  • Publicly linking a TA to another TA is allowed if "reasonably believed to be necessary". (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 and ~2025-12345-68 are likely the same person, so I am counting their reverts together toward 3RR, but not Hey ~2025-12345-68, you did some good editing as ~2025-12345-67)
  • See Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer § What can and can't be said for more detailed guidelines.
Useful tools for patrollers
  • It is possible to view if a user has opted-in to view temporary account IPs via the User Info card, available in Preferences → Appearance → Advanced options → Tick Enable the user info card
    • This feature also makes it possible for anyone to see the approximate count of temporary accounts active on the same IP address range.
  • Special:IPContributions allows viewing all edits and temporary accounts connected to a specific IP address or IP range.
  • Similarly, Special:GlobalContributions supports global search for a given temporary account's activity.
  • The auto-reveal feature (see video below) allows users with the right permissions to automatically reveal all IP addresses for a limited time window.
Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Preston Cook
[edit]
First, thank you for the note and opportunity to get my article re-instated. I will do the necessary. That said, I would like to address what seems to be the two issues that drove the article into deletion. 1. Using ChatGPT. I literally started writing this piece last January - on my own, and my first crack at a Wikipedia entry. It's been a slow learning curve. I can imagine that the many, many edits and revisions that have been recommended over the past months have helped homogenize this piece such that it might very well seem AI-generated. With all due respect to the AI-sleuthing tool, from the start it's been my work, my words - informed by comments from reviewers. 2. Broken and 404 references. This is clearly the result of the long process I've been through. My bad for not checking them on my last submission - although this is the first time this has ever been an issue, so clearly after so many months the sources chose to archive those links. I will use the tools available to find them. Thanks for letting me vent, er, explain. Tmcfarlandpr (talk) 22:22, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Tmcfarlandpr. I've undeleted the Draft:Preston Cook so that you can correct any previously noted issues and establish the subject notability through quality referencing. My brief advice is to use only the best independent sources with significant coverage of the subject (e.g. Audubon Magazine, Minnesota Public Radio), and eliminate any that may be considered unreliable, promotional or do not cover the subject (Economic Times of India, Coastal Raptors). Good luck with your editing. CactusWriter (talk) 19:37, 8 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Peter Park
[edit]
Would it be OK if "Peter Park" redirected to Northwestern California University School of Law#Notable alumni? --Jax 0677 (talk) 15:49, 16 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Jax 0677. I don't see a good reason to create a redirect to that page. The subject appears to be non-notable per WP:BLP1E and, as such, is unlikely to ever be the subject of an expanded article. Whereas, other Peter Parks, for example, this Peter Park, appear to be more viable subjects for an expanded articles or redirects. CactusWriter (talk) 20:25, 16 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
FYI, I just created Peter Park (disambiguation). --Jax 0677 (talk) 16:00, 19 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good. CactusWriter (talk) 17:00, 21 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
