Hello, @AllyD:! I noticed your warning about posting my articles on Hutchison China Meditech and Hutchison MediPharma being a COI (Conflict of Interest). Please don't misinterpret my intentions!!! I am not hired or paid by the either companies to post these articles. I am merely a student who has gained an interest in the growing pharmaceutical industry in China. I decided to post articles of Hutchison China Meditech ans well as Hutchison MediPharma purely out of the my own interest. I believe that Hutchison China Meditech may very well be on the rise to being a major player in the Chinese pharmaceutical industry, and I merely wish that others interested in this company for the same or other reasons have access to a wikipedia page containing public information regarding the company. I hope that my wikipedia page will prove to be a more convenient option of learning about Hutchison China Meditech.

Hi. Thanks for your review and suggestions. I also notice that qTrace and qTest eXplorer should be merged but as a new wiki user I'm not too sure how to do it. For the qTest eXplorer page it is a renamed product so I feel it should be mentioned since qTrace no longer exists, yet the secondary sources for qTest eXplorer are not that many. Any suggestions on how can I re-write (or merge) the two articles and remove those tags?

For the proposed deletion of qTest. It's a major product of a company, there are lots of products in same category that have wiki pages, with length at that short, so I don't know why qTest got restricted. I tried to include only historic data and relevant information that someone of interest would want to know about qTest. I also tried to include some secondary sources as possible... Not too sure how to best write article as such since I made no attempt of advertising or so...

It will be much appreciated to let me know. Thank you. Tea Nguyen (talk) 3:30, 13 February 2014 (UTC)

It definitely is notable. It's been mentioned in national press a number of times...

Hi AllyD, I created the page, Onarbor, and would like to fix it such that it will be acceptable to be published on Wikipedia. Onarbor.com is my website and company. Our business model is based off of Kickstarter that is why I used Kickstarter's wiki page as a guide to developing our wiki page. I apologize for cutting and pasting kickstarter's page in order to create Onarbor's page. I took a break from finishing Onarbor's page before removing the blatant copyrighting without realizing that Wikipedia editors would delete it so quickly before I had a chance to finalize it. My sincere apologies, this is the 1st wikipedia page I've ever created. I've re-submitted the Onarbor page to address the copyrighting. I've removed all references that were Kickstarter-specific and changed the sentence-structure and wording to be unique to Onarbor. Hopefully this will be more in line with Wikipedia's policies. Again, I'm truly sorry about this. Thank you,

Interview invitation from a Wikipedia researcher in University of Minnesota

[edit]

Hello AllyD,

I am Bowen Yu, a Ph.D. student from GroupLens Research at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. Currently, we are undertaking a study about turnover (editors leaving and joining) in WikiProjects within Wikipedia. We are trying to understand the effects of member turnovers in the WikiProject group, in terms of the group performance and member interaction, with a purpose of learning how to build successful online communities in future. More details about our project can be found on this meta-wiki page.

I would like to invite you for an interview if you are interested in our study and willing to share your experience with us. The interview will be about 30 - 45 minutes via either Skype or Google Hangout. You will receive a $10 gift card as compensation afterwards.

Please reach me at bowen@cs.umn.edu if you are interested or have any questions.

Thank you,

Bowen

Maintenance template removal

[edit]

Dear AllyD, thank you for the welcoming message. I used to edit and improve Wikipedia pages back in 2013,2014 and 2015. Now, I am back for my favourite hobby. Looking forward to improving more and more pages. I have read what is needed to be done, but unfortunately, cannot see why you put this. Could you be more specific? I have gone through it before deleting the Maintenance template. Checked for grammatical and other mistakes. Thank you for understanding.

New Page Patrol newsletter October 2022

[edit]

Hello AllyD,

Much has happened since the last newsletter over two months ago. The open letter finished with 444 signatures. The letter was sent to several dozen people at the WMF, and we have heard that it is being discussed but there has been no official reply. A related article appears in the current issue of The Signpost. If you haven't seen it, you should, including the readers' comment section.

Awards: Barnstars were given for the past several years (thanks to MPGuy2824), and we are now all caught up. The 2021 cup went to John B123 for leading with 26,525 article reviews during 2021. To encourage moderate activity, a new "Iron" level barnstar is awarded annually for reviewing 360 articles ("one-a-day"), and 100 reviews earns the "Standard" NPP barnstar. About 90 reviewers received barnstars for each of the years 2018 to 2021 (including the new awards that were given retroactively). All awards issued for every year are listed on the Awards page. Check out the new Hall of Fame also.

Software news: Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have connected with WMF developers who can review and approve patches, so they have been able to fix some bugs, and make other improvements to the Page Curation software. You can see everything that has been fixed recently here. The reviewer report has also been improved.

NPP backlog May – October 15, 2022

Suggestions:

  • There is much enthusiasm over the low backlog, but remember that the "quality and depth of patrolling are more important than speed".
  • Reminder: an article should not be tagged for any kind of deletion for a minimum of 15 minutes after creation and it is often appropriate to wait an hour or more. (from the NPP tutorial)
  • Reviewers should focus their effort where it can do the most good, reviewing articles. Other clean-up tasks that don't require advanced permissions can be left to other editors that routinely improve articles in these ways (creating Talk Pages, specifying projects and ratings, adding categories, etc.) Let's rely on others when it makes the most sense. On the other hand, if you enjoy doing these tasks while reviewing and it keeps you engaged with NPP (or are guiding a newcomer), then by all means continue.
  • This user script puts a link to the feed in your top toolbar.

Backlog:

Saving the best for last: From a July low of 8,500, the backlog climbed back to 11,000 in August and then reversed in September dropping to below 6,000 and continued falling with the October backlog drive to under 1,000, a level not seen in over four years. Keep in mind that there are 2,000 new articles every week, so the number of reviews is far higher than the backlog reduction. To keep the backlog under a thousand, we have to keep reviewing at about half the recent rate!

Reminders
  • Newsletter feedback - please take this short poll about the newsletter.
  • If you're interested in instant messaging and chat rooms, please join us on the New Page Patrol Discord, where you can ask for help and live chat with other patrollers.
  • Please add the project discussion page to your watchlist.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be a reviewer, please ask any admin to remove you from the group. If you want the tools back again, just ask at PERM.
  • To opt out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

New Pages Patrol newsletter January 2023

[edit]

Hello AllyD,

New Page Review queue December 2022
Backlog

The October drive reduced the backlog from 9,700 to an amazing 0! Congratulations to WaddlesJP13 who led with 2084 points. See this page for further details. The queue is steadily rising again and is approaching 2,000. It would be great if <2,000 were the “new normal”. Please continue to help out even if it's only for a few or even one patrol a day.

2022 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone!

Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)

New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js

Redirects: Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide, this checklist, and spend some time at WP:RFD.

Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.

Reminders
  • Newsletter feedback - please take this short poll about the newsletter.
  • There is live chat with patrollers on the New Page Patrol Discord.
  • Please add the project discussion page to your watchlist.
  • If you no longer wish to be a reviewer, please ask any admin to remove you from the group. If you want the tools back again, just ask at PERM.

New Pages Patrol newsletter June 2023

[edit]

Hello AllyD,

New Page Review queue April to June 2023

Backlog

Redirect drive: In response to an unusually high redirect backlog, we held a redirect backlog drive in May. The drive completed with 23851 reviews done in total, bringing the redirect backlog to 0 (momentarily). Congratulations to Hey man im josh who led with a staggering 4316 points, followed by Meena and Greyzxq with 2868 and 2546 points respectively. See this page for more details. The redirect queue is steadily rising again and is steadily approaching 4,000. Please continue to help out, even if it's only for a few or even one review a day.

Redirect autopatrol: All administrators without autopatrol have now been added to the redirect autopatrol list. If you see any users who consistently create significant amounts of good quality redirects, consider requesting redirect autopatrol for them here.

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team, consisting of Sam, Jason and Susana, and also some patches from Jon, has been hard at work updating PageTriage. They are focusing their efforts on modernising the extension's code rather than on bug fixes or new features, though some user-facing work will be prioritised. This will help make sure that this extension is not deprecated, and is easier to work on in the future. In the next month or so, we will have an opt-in beta test where new page patrollers can help test the rewrite of Special:NewPagesFeed, to help find bugs. We will post more details at WT:NPPR when we are ready for beta testers.

Articles for Creation (AFC): All new page reviewers are now automatically approved for Articles for Creation draft reviewing (you do not need to apply at WT:AFCP like was required previously). To install the AFC helper script, visit Special:Preferences, visit the Gadgets tab, tick "Yet Another AFC Helper Script", then click "Save". To find drafts to review, visit Special:NewPagesFeed, and at the top left, tick "Articles for Creation". To review a draft, visit a submitted draft, click on the "More" menu, then click "Review (AFCH)". You can also comment on and submit drafts that are unsubmitted using the script.

You can review the AFC workflow at WP:AFCR. It is up to you if you also want to mark your AFC accepts as NPP reviewed (this is allowed but optional, depends if you would like a second set of eyes on your accept). Don't forget that draftspace is optional, so moves of drafts to mainspace (even if they are not ready) should not be reverted, except possibly if there is conflict of interest.

Pro tip: Did you know that visual artists such as painters have their own SNG? The most common part of this "creative professionals" criteria that applies to artists is WP:ARTIST 4b (solo exhibition, not group exhibition, at a major museum) or 4d (being represented within the permanent collections of two museums).

Question from MrGlassWontBreak (06:11, 8 April 2025)

[edit]

Hello, im very new here, but I do live to write, and I’m very confident in my ability to contribute to the topics I’m interested in. Im very excited and have made a few edits, I would really appreciate it if you could go through them and point out my mistakes and how I might be able to fix them. I’d also appreciate a to know if there is any easier way to find reliable sources(preferably related to movies, comic books, tv shows etc), and instructions on how to cite better. Looking forward to your help and Tutilage. --MrGlassWontBreak (talk) 06:11, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

MrGlassWontBreak, what I saw of your first batch of edits looked fine; there was just that one point that I mentioned on your Talk page about preferred date formats here. Finding reliable sources can be a problem, especially in any field of interest where there is a lot of fan and publicity writing. In fields as diverse as business and jazz music, there are sites like Forbes and Allaboutjazz which publish decent bylined critical evaluations but also press releases. So sometimes you end up trying to evaluate a possible source, asking yourself "Who is saying this? And why?"- not easy! More generally, this page and its links can help. Hi Danenriquezor, carrying out any crime does not in itself providing a person with lasting notability here: see WP:PERP. The other consideration would be whether the person had actually been convicted: otherwise it would stand only as an allegation and WP:BLP considerations would be crucial. Hi Anupa Umal, I have restored all these references (I hope!) using the article history. The Mobile Editing experience can, I know from personal experience, be a bit awkward and doesn't always give what was expected. If you find an unwanted outcome, on mobile view you can click the "Last edited..." line at the bottom of the article to see and compare each revision in the history. Sometimes the easiest thing when you don't like your own edit is to hit the rollback command. Anyway, hoping you won't need that on future edits! AllyD (talk) 17:50, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Xanaxwixard on History of stepwells in Gujarat (01:33, 14 April 2025)

[edit]

Hello. I was trying to add a source to the introductory page of this article, just as a test run to see if I could figure it out. Almost immediately it was flagged by a bot. Could you take a look when you have time --Xanaxwixard (talk) 01:33, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Xanaxwixard, the Bot was just flagging that your added reference doesn't provide the title of the source article, which you can deal with by adding title=Rani-ki-Vav (the Queen’s Stepwell) at Patan, Gujarat into the reference. Although the URL is the crucial part of the reference, titles are useful too, as they provide a bit more information to readers. It is also useful because, over time, external URLs often disappear or get moved, so having the title helps anyone trying to rescue the missing reference look for the source elsewhere. AllyD (talk) 07:08, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you :) I understand now. Xanaxwixard (talk) 00:09, 18 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It isn’t super clear to me how to edit my already made source :/ but in future I will certainly know how to title them. When trying to fix this, should I be in “source” editing? When I go to visual editing I can’t edit my reference at all, but I don’t understand the source editing format. Sorry to ask so many questions ! Xanaxwixard (talk) 00:14, 18 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Xanaxwixard, personally I don't use the Visual Editor, but I know its referencing functionality has improved in recent years. Trying it out on my sandbox, if I click on the superscript number of a reference, the reference info appears in a popup box with an Edit button (on desktop) or at the bottom of the screen with a Pen icon (on mobile); these allow the Title etc. to be amended. (Myself, I use the source editor, for which gadgets such as WP:REFTOOLS can lighten the load of inputting the right parameters.) AllyD (talk) 08:08, 18 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from BrodyMK64 (02:52, 14 April 2025)

[edit]

Hi there, I was told in my success email for the first ever article I wrote that I no longer had to go through the draft approval system and I could create articles myself. How do I actually go about doing that? Thanks! --BrodyMK64 (talk) 02:52, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi BrodyMK64, the most basic way to create an article is just to Search on the title and then use the instructions at The page "Blahblah" does not exist. You can click on "Blahblah" to create the page... and publish a basic article. But I wouldn't really recommend that approach! The New Page Reviewers expect a published page to meet standards already, so it is better to draft it in your sandbox, then copy-paste once you are happy with the full draft article and references. You can still use the WP:AFC process, of course, as you did with the Pittsburgh article. This article is pretty good at describing your options. AllyD (talk) 07:54, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi. When do I get to create an article? --MagicIain1 (talk) 20:55, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

MagicIain1, see this document for help with creating an article. It is best to use the WP:AFC process for getting a first draft article reviewed. And absolutely essential to have evidence of notability. AllyD (talk) 21:28, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from MrGlassWontBreak (00:03, 17 April 2025)

[edit]

Hi again, I need help regarding a page I created about a comic book series: Rogue Sun. It got flagged as an article written from a fans POV instead of a neutral one. Does this mean my article will be deleted soon, Also what aspects of the article could have lead to this, and how can I correct them? --MrGlassWontBreak (talk) 00:03, 17 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

MrGlassWontBreak, firstly as Wikipedia is a collective endeavour, maintenance tags are used to indicate issues which should be addressed. It is not well-regarded to remove a maintenance tag without addressing the issue. It would be best to reinstate the fanpov tag that another user - probably doing the important New Page Patrol task - had placed on the article.
Secondly, from a quick read of the article, I would say the issues are the Characters and Powers and Abilities sections. These look like Original Research recounting details, with minimal 3rd party references. AllyD (talk) 06:54, 17 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, Thanks for the notice, I’ll revert the change now MrGlassWontBreak (talk) 10:04, 17 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Honestly, I still don’t fully understand the whole fan/neutral perspective thing but I’m made some changes to the article, making it simple and concise.
I’ve also noticed that most articles are linked to a wiki data item, is that necessary and should I go ahead and create one for mine.
MrGlassWontBreak (talk) 14:22, 21 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi MrGlassWontBreak, people's enthusiasms are often their major motivation for editing here. That is fine, but maybe it is best to imagine a reader who doesn't share that particular enthusiasm but is seeking information, so keeping to the general topic and its reception and omitting the excessive character detail. On the other hand, while I know next-to-zero about comic books, if there is significant "sharing" across in-universe titles, I could see some sense in including sufficient detail to allow these elements to be hooked together. (If that makes any sense!)
On Wikidata, there are Bots that pick up new articles, probably once they are fully indexed, so that a matching item can be created. In this case, there is a Rogue Sun item for a video game firm, but that is not linked to the present article and wouldn't cause problems. AllyD (talk) 20:36, 22 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It does make a lot of sense, thank you for clarifying, appreciate it. MrGlassWontBreak (talk) 20:52, 22 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from One in Illinois (00:11, 17 April 2025)

[edit]

Hi, I was looking for "the veil of ignorance" because we had recently been reading about then the same term was it was used on NPR's Hidden Brain program. The Wikipedia site did not mention the earlier use of the term. There is great need for the original Author's mention. In dictating A Course in Miracles “the veil of ignorance” was mentioned by Jesus. The urtext of the course dates its recording: August 23, 1968. Where did Jesus get it from? Its definition would be consistent:

“Salvation does not ask that you behold the spirit and perceive the body not. It merely asks that this should be your choice. For you can see the body without help, but do not understand how to behold a world apart from it. It is your world salvation will undo, and let you see another world your eyes could never find. Be not concerned how this could ever be. You do not understand how what you see arose to meet your sight. For if you did, it would be gone. The veil of ignorance is drawn across the evil and the good, and must be passed that both may disappear, so that perception finds no hiding place. How is this done? It is not done at all. What could there be within the universe that God created that must still be done?” --One in Illinois (talk) 00:11, 17 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi One in Illinois, it isn't clear whether you are asking a question about a specific page or making a general comment on a topic. It may be that you are referring to the Original position article, about Rawls' use of the term? The term "veil of ignorance" redirects to that page, following a discussion which can be read here. If so, and if you have specific article improvement proposals, then Talk:Original_position would be the place to propose them. AllyD (talk) 08:01, 17 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for sharing your knowledge of the process AllyD,
The etymology of the “veil of ignorance” term could be added to the article to understand how in 1968 Jesus could use the term with his scribes, two Professors of Medical Psychology in New York City. They were likely familiar with the concept at that time. One in Illinois (talk) 14:29, 17 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Can we block someone who frequently change / edit wrong fact in wiki page? --Sharmajii2011 (talk) 18:03, 17 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Sharmajii2011, on your two questions: If there is a topic whose fact claims are under dispute, that is where the article Talk page is the appropriate venue to present facts and references in order to seek consensus among all editors with interest in and knowledge of the topic area. Failing that, there is WP:ANI but I really would not recommend that; if a dispute is intractable, better to take a breath and involve oneself in other topics for a time. Question from LabourUnited (13:05, 20 April 2025)

[edit]

Hello,

You're right — I do want to update evidence and edit outdated articles in my area of expertise (Public Health), with the hopes of soon creating a full page!

Question from Graeme A. Thompson (23:24, 23 April 2025)

[edit]

Dogpop removed my mother's sighting from the Waitoreke article. It was based on a personal reminiscence by her to me, and one book reference I am having trouble tracking down. When I wanted back into edit it, it had been deleted. I found the deletion, but How do I get the content back so I can edit it? Graeme Thompson gtarchivist @yahoo.com --Graeme A. Thompson (talk) 23:24, 23 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Graeme A. Thompson, you should start from the article history. On mobile, you can get to this at the bottom of the article by clicking on the "Last edited by..." line. You can then click on the date/time of each revision to see the content at that point, in this case "22:19, 2 April 2025", and then copy the added/deleted text. AllyD (talk) 04:35, 24 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I would also say that, frustrating as this can be, I see why Dgpop removed the text, with the comment "Remove unsourced personal reflection (?)". The reported reminiscence lacks a published reference and then continues to a first-person signed suggestion, suitable for a forum rather than Wikipedia article space. [edit]

Hi, which type of English can I refer to? American or British? Or does it even matter? --Cheesecake256 (talk) 08:57, 28 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

HiCheesecake256, usually you are best to use the type most relevant to the article subject (for example, organise vs organize). See WP:ENGVAR. You will also see tags like Use British English at the top of articles, which can help with cases that may be debatable. AllyD (talk) 09:11, 28 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Cheesecake256 on Raja Wodeyar I (11:24, 28 April 2025)

[edit]

What kind of images can I add to Wikipedia articles? --Cheesecake256 (talk) 11:24, 28 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Cheesecake256, broadly, images which someone else has already uploaded to Wikimedia Commons or on which you yourself have intellectual property rights which you can grant (typically photos). That can be a minefield, as different countries have differing rights of panorama on buildings, for example. For someone who lived several hundred years ago, the options are more limited, probably just a tombstone or an artist's impression of them. I'd wonder if that kind of idealised image would add much benefit. AllyD (talk) 11:41, 28 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Oddball49 (13:51, 29 April 2025)

[edit]

How do I get my page submission uploaded faster. I play lots of football manager and watch youth football in Cyprus and Greece because I travel to Cyprus sometimes. I have seen multiple young talents and want to create pages for them as they get call ups to their respective national teams for friendlies and such --Oddball49 (talk) 13:51, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Oddball49, unfortunately, young talents are seldom appropriate for articles at that stage in their careers. (Personally, I have seen plenty of young talents in the Scottish lower leagues for whom I c onfidently predicted great futures, but for whatever reason, it seldom happens.) Wikipedia relies on coverage (not Instagram and routine listings) demonstrating that a person has already attained verifiable notability in their field. See the links in Bonadea's explanation of why Draft:Nikolas Markou is not suitable for article main space. AllyD (talk) 19:44, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Okay! I'll unpublish it then. Oddball49 (talk) 21:15, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Oddball49 (08:09, 3 May 2025)

[edit]

Hello? Do you think my draft https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Tasos_Potsepis would qualify for an article? I think it has a strong case for an article, such as sources and notability. As he is very well known in Greece especially by younger generations who interact with his posts daily on social media. --Oddball49 (talk) 08:09, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Oddball49, for myself, I use WP:ANYBIO as set of criteria when considering whether to create a biographical article. Looking at your draft, I don't see this person as established against these criteria; I'd also note this advice page regarding people who appear on social media. I see you have submitted the draft for review, so you will, in time, get an AfC reviewer's opinion on the draft. AllyD (talk) 08:52, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from AvyuktOrai (06:08, 5 May 2025)

[edit]

Hello Mentor,

A few months back, after editing, expanding, and adding citations to many pages, I created a draft: Nadeem Jafri. On 3rd May, it was approved by one of the admins, too. But just now, another editor has applied the article for speed deletion.

Here it is - This article may meet Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion because in its current form it serves only to promote or publicise an entity, person, product, or idea, and would require a fundamental rewrite to become encyclopedic.

What should be my next step to improve the article? --AvyuktOrai (talk) 06:08, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • User:AvyuktOrai, you can engage with the speedy deletion proposal on the Talk:Nadeem Jafri to give reasons why the article should stay. The key is indicating notability outside discussion of the business he started. From a quick look at Nadeem Jafri, I would say the whole section on Franchising is inappropriate for his biography, for example. AllyD (talk) 06:17, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the prompt support. I will remove this franchising section and tone down the article too so that it don't look promotional to any editor. Once done, I will ping you to check the article for your feedback. AvyuktOrai (talk) 06:39, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    Thanks Mentor,
I have removed the Franchising section. Rewrote the whole article in more neutral tone and added more citations. Could you look into the article again and suggest for any further changes required. Also if all good then could you remove the article from speedy deletion.
Article: Nadeem Jafri AvyuktOrai (talk) 07:47, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    Hi Mentor,
Now another editor has deleted the article for advert and COI warnings. Though I vouch I don't have any direct or indrect connection with the article. I have done some changes in Hearty mart page and saw in that wiki page that Mr. Jafri is also elligble for wikipedia article as read a lot about him on media. Hence, I created the article.
Now, how I can bring back my article as after speed deletion nomination I toned down the article and removed less relevant sections, added more relevant sections and added more citations ( total 21 citations were in the article).
Please suggest. Thanks in advance AvyuktOrai (talk) 14:14, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
AvyuktOrai, you can ask the deleting admin., User:Deb, to restore the article text to your sandbox so that you can rework it. I understand that it can be dispiriting when an article that one has worked on is deleted, especially if it had passed through a first set of approvals at WP:AFC. One of the first articles that I wrote was proposed for deletion many years later and by then I agreed that it didn't meet the notability criteria. Business biographies are particularly awkward, as it is often the case that any coverage that exists is as much about the company as the person. Personally, if considering creating a biographical page, I would use WP:ANYBIO to measure whether the article can be sustained, which can be quite a challenging test. Question from FurshpanBernie (02:00, 7 May 2025)

[edit]

I'm trying to add a poster that I created but it's not letting me add it. --FurshpanBernie (talk) 02:00, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi FurshpanBernie, I am not seeing anything in your contribution history to indicate where you have been trying to create this image, but my guess is that it is a poster associated with the film on which you have drafted an article- and that copyright/licensing may be the issue? The articles at WP:COPYRIGHT and WP:FAIRUSE may be useful on how one can declare the permitted use. AllyD (talk) 06:59, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
FurshpanBernie, a related issue is editing on topics in which one has a direct involvement, which requires clear disclosure. I am going to place the standard notice which helps explain this on your Talk page. AllyD (talk) 07:04, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello, please how do I create a good citations? --Olumide-Ojo91 (talk) 06:21, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Olumide-Ojo91, a good place to start is with the tutorial. AllyD (talk) 07:25, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I will go through it. Please be patient with me. Olumide-Ojo91 (talk) 07:27, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Olumide-Ojo91, while answering your question above I briefly saw the User Page that you had created. I can't see it now that it has been deleted, but my memory is that it gave a full biography, in article format. You have asked about its deletion on your User Talk page: briefly, the information on a User page here (unlike that on social media profiles, for example) is usually limited to information useful to involvement in this project. This article may be helpful. AllyD (talk) 07:40, 12 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from BioEd4Musos (15:57, 12 May 2025)

[edit]

Hi Ally I've just started editing. I'm trying to update the article for Luke Daniels (musician), but several of my edits have been rejected for reasons I think are questionable. I think I may have tried to edit too much at once. Is there a way to approach this that may be better received? Also, I have disclosed my conflict of interest. Would it be better if someone without a conflict of interest make the edits? Looking forward to your guidance. --BioEd4Musos (talk) 15:57, 12 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi BioEd4Musos, a biography on a website and a biographical article here are quite distinct in tone and content, which can be difficult at first. You've been taking the right approach on Talk:Luke Daniels (musician) by disclosing your association with the subject and then suggesting edit requests. I would agree with User:Ca's comments, that the teaching facts are already present in the article, which is sufficient here, coming back to my comment about about tone. AllyD (talk) 19:38, 12 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
One more general point - not applicable when editing indirectly via suggested edits on a Talk page - is that when adding material, it is almost always best to build on the work by prior editors rather than overwrite entire sections / references. AllyD (talk) 19:40, 12 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate that. Unfortunately I was incorrectly advised by another source to overwrite the existing section(s). It seems that I'm getting the right guidance now.
Is it better to edit in small sections rather than larger or multiple sections?
Also, would it be more helpful if someone who doesn't have a COI make the edits? BioEd4Musos (talk) 20:32, 12 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
When proposing edits on a Talk page, it would be tidier and easier on other editors to be proposing bite-sized changes, typically a sentence or paragraph. And I definitely wouldn't recommend seeking someone else to make edits to an article: that is regarded as sockpuppetry / meatpuppetry, which results in sanctions. Better to keep everything in clear light. AllyD (talk) 07:16, 13 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Campaign-southsudan (22:31, 12 May 2025)

[edit]

I need to upload a photo to this Wikipedia page, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2026_South_Sudanese_general_election because my boss is running for president of South Sudan, his name is Bol Gai Deng. We have tried to upload to commons, they keep rejecting us for reasons that make no sense. The other candidate, the current president, has his picture listed in the elections article, but his opponent, Bol Gai Deng, does not. We have written a letter to Alfred Neumann asking to post a picture, we own the picture, plus it is public domain. Yet we keep being sent to Wikipedia commons which is not user friendly. Can you help? --Campaign-southsudan (talk) 22:31, 12 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Campaign-southsudan, it isn't clear what has been happening on Commons regarding this photo. If there is a problem, I would guess it relates to the copyright release of the image. When you say "got rejected", did the photo get uploaded and subsequently deleted by an administrator there, or did you encounter a problem during the upload wizard dialogue? On your Talk page at Commons, there are links under a Getting Help heading which could be useful for dealing with the specific problem. I would suggest using that Upload Wizard, and screenshot the point when you encounter any problem. AllyD (talk) 07:00, 13 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I should also mention now that your username may be a problem: some might regard it as falling under WP:ORGNAME, which can result in your account being blocked. I also see you used "we" above, but accounts here must be individual. You should read WP:COI, and possibly consider requesting a more clearly individual username. AllyD (talk) 07:07, 13 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
After I filled out all the information, assured Wikipedia that the photos are public domain, taken by his own camera while he was speaking at the Global Leaders Summit with world leaders Campaign-southsudan (talk) 14:18, 13 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I am still unclear whether you got through the full Upload Wizard dialogue. Its steps areUpload, Release rights and Describe. Did you get through all of these steps?
The Release rights step asks whether an image is your own work or contains the work of others, in order to release the image for use. From what you said above, it may be your answers there that caused problems. AllyD (talk) 14:52, 13 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from MyEnchantedLeader (10:46, 14 May 2025)

[edit]

Good day mentor I would like to enquire about what is the most effecient platform for editing, is it web browser, mobile phone browser, App or something else? --MyEnchantedLeader (talk) 10:46, 14 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi MyEnchantedLeader, that's an interesting question. Personally, I would say the most comfortable medium for editing Wikipedia is on the desktop browser. Over the past couple of years, I spent a lot more time editing on my phone using the browser mobile version (as at present, and as I think you are doing). It isn't too bad - my frustrations are mainly about the limited view and switching between keyboards, which aren't Wikimedia's fault. Editing some related projects (Wikidata) is some way behind on mobile, though improvement work is underway. AllyD (talk) 13:41, 14 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
MyEnchantedLeader thanks you for your insight. MyEnchantedLeader (talk) 04:06, 15 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello dear mentor, I would like to ask how I tag(create link) to a user and article if I'm reporting a user for vandalism. --MyEnchantedLeader (talk) 07:11, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

MyEnchantedLeader, putting u| or ping| then their username, all enclosed in double curly brackets (like I have done here with your username), will give them a notification. Make sure it isn't just a difference of opinion before reporting, though - best done where vandalism is clear and repeating. AllyD (talk) 07:44, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello, I was wondering what are some appropriate times to make an edit depending on the structure and other parts of a story. --TheEditorOFFICIAL101 (talk) 18:55, 20 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi TheEditorOFFICIAL101, I am not sure what you are meaning here, but it is possibly about adding emerging information on a topic? If so, the WP:NOTNEWS article is useful, as is the need to be wary of coverage of technical developments based on an announcement by their vendors. AllyD (talk) 19:35, 20 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Wpdigital (15:36, 21 May 2025)

[edit]

Hello,

I work for a business that currently doesn't have a wikipedia page. As digital marketing assistant, I've been asked to write one.

Even if referencing reliable sources and declaring a COI, would you recommend finding a neutral party to write this for us?

Regards Jake --Wpdigital (talk) 15:36, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Wpdigital, edits where there is a conflict of interest need to be clear, so I would not recommend getting someone else to create the article. WP:COI edits aren't encouraged, but the least-bad approach is probably to (a) disclose your association on your User page, create the article as Draft:Acme Widgets or whatever, also add a Connected Contributor declaration on the Draft's Talk page, and then submit it via this process for independent assessment. AllyD (talk) 15:48, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@AllyD
Thank you. Could you level with me - would you say having no wikipedia page is better than one with COI and other relevant declarations? Wpdigital (talk) 15:55, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Personally, I have felt surprised by companies actively putting themselves into positions of creating a Wikipedia article about the firm which another editor quite reasonably tags with a Notability query, or where an article is deleted following a public discussion concluding that the firm is non-notable (in the Wikipedia sense). I presume sometimes they treat it like a website company listing and just haven't considered whether their company meets these criteria. AllyD (talk) 20:54, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

How do I make an article? --Daniel Azubuike (talk) 14:23, 23 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Daniel Azubuike, it is best to start by learning to edit existing articles, for example through this. But if you want to go straight to creating an article, then first please consider the notability criteria, as it can be dispiriting to create an article that is then deleted. If you feel you can demonstrate the topic is notable, then use the article creation wizard to draft the article. AllyD (talk) 15:12, 23 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from David at Nexergy (09:40, 27 May 2025)

[edit]

Hello Wikipedia Mentor,

I am working on seeing if I could to request an article be written about Nexergy Holdings. Do you know if it is possible to request an article be written about Nexergy? Do you have the link for how I would request an article to be written? Do you how I could request an article to be written about a topic? Please don't request it just yet, I just want to see if it possible first/how I would do it.

Thank you, David =) --David at Nexergy (talk) 09:40, 27 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi David at Nexergy, Wikipedia isn't a site for commissioned articles. If one has a product, a band, an enterprise, and it is notable, then one can hope that someone independent will choose to write about it sooner or later. Please also read WP:NCORP as "notability" has quite particular criteria here. Any article created where there is a conflict of interest (either informally or formally) needs to be clearly declared. The least-bad approach would then be to (a) disclose your association on your User page, create the article as Draft:Acme Widgets or whatever, also add a Connected Contributor declaration on the Draft's Talk page, and then submit it for independent assessment. AllyD (talk) 10:04, 27 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
On that crucial notability topic, I see Mike Turnbull wrote a useful initial assessment on your Talk page. AllyD (talk) 10:07, 27 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Hivki, the documentation at Template:Infobox weapon indicates that the is_UK parameter is used to indicate whether British/Commonwealth English should be used in the article carrying the template. AllyD (talk) 08:30, 17 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Squibbydibby (19:07, 18 June 2025)

Hello! I'd like to add a page of an actor that does not have a wikipedia page yet. How can I go about that?

Thank you! --Squibbydibby (talk) 19:07, 18 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Squibbydibby, see this document for help with creating a first article. First, though, i is worth considering whether this actor's work meets the notability criteria here, as it would be very discouraging to put effort into creating an article which is then deleted. The basic biographical criteria are here and those specific to actors are here. As you will see there, it is crucial to have evidence of the subject's notability. If so you can then use the WP:AFC process to get your draft article reviewed. AAllyD (talk) 20:15, 18 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Rahulpanday up Barabanki, it isn't clear what is your question, but my guess is that you registered this account several hours ago and then immediately forgot its password? These questions here and on you Talk page are the sum total of your editing, so I suggest the easiest action is to start again and register another account for use (and note the password). However my concern is that you have put what looks like some form of ID number on your Talk page: if so, sharing such information is a bad idea and it should be deleted. Question from WillieThurston95 (17:01, 24 June 2025)

[edit]

Hello! Apparently there was a huge IP block around my area from Wikimedia Commons. Something about vandalism I heard. I've been editing a singer's page lately since the current biography on it is just his obituary, and I have a bunch of rare photos that I'd like to add to the page. However, with this IP block in effect, I'm not even allowed to log in for the next 3 years it said. That seems a little overkill if you ask me. You know, "Somebody robbed a bank, so the whole town's in jail." I was wondering if you know how to possibly bypass this block? Legally, of course. --WillieThurston95 (talk) 17:01, 24 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

WillieThurston95, without knowing the details of what has been previously done through that IP range, I'd be inclined to agree with you. A couple of things: (1) were you logged in to Commons with your WillieThurston95 account when you hit the block? And (2) what is the broad range that is under this block? AllyD (talk) 18:02, 24 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
So I was actually just trying to log into Commons, it was my first time on there. That's when it hit me with the block message. And the block range it said was 2600:387::/44 I think. WillieThurston95 (talk) 20:02, 24 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
WillieThurston95, clearly the Commons administrators experienced something deeply problematic to resort to that breadth and duration of an IP block. I am thinking it unlikely that a durable exception would be achieved for you. So... Another approach would be to upload the image file to Wikipedia itself using this link, and then link it in the relevant article. But do make sure you are familiar with WP:FAIRUSE first. AllyD (talk) 12:20, 25 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thank you. WillieThurston95 (talk) 15:57, 25 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

David at Nexergy, I'm afraid the volunteer community doesn't exist to write articles on company commission. And (as noted above) another user, Michael D. Anklesvar INA,

How to correct name as Ankleshwar GIDC or Ankleshwar INA --Nikhil Chabhadiya (talk) 04:23, 11 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nikhil Chabhadiya, looking at the Anklesvar INA article, its only source is the 2001 census, where it was listed with the present name. That is not to say that this was accurate or that the situation has not changed. What will be needed is reliable 3rd party sources which show other names being used. Once you have these, a discussion on the Talk:Anklesvar INA page would normally help reach consensus on which name is best, but that would be unlikely to work as nobody has been active in developing the article, so you are probably best to use the procedure at WP:RSPM to request a move. Question from Jhshuman (00:07, 12 July 2025)

[edit]

Hello, I see an error in the article about Dunkard Creek, a stream in PA and WV. The third paragraph says it "is named for members of the Dunkard Brethren..." but that name was not adopted until 1926. It should probably say "it was named for members of the Schwarzenau Brethren..." That was the original name of the group of which Dunkard Brethren is now a part, but not at the time the creek was named! How can this be fixed? --Jhshuman (talk) 00:07, 12 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jhshuman, the important thing for Wikipedia articles is what is said in 3rd party references. In the case of the Dunkard Creek article, the 3rd paragraph about it being associated with a religious group is supported by a 1968 newspaper reference. It is rather informal in tone but better would be needed if it was to be discarded here. I notice that the Dunkard Brethren Church article's History section says "The Dunkard Brethren are a branch of the Schwarzenau Brethren or Dunkards" - is this an indication that "dunkard" was a descriptive term used before it became part of a formalised group in 1926? Which would make the "Dunkard Creek" name understandable. But if you are seeking a change to the article, you could open a discussion on Talk:Dunkard Creek to propose a change (with supporting references). AllyD (talk) 19:44, 12 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You ask "I notice that the Dunkard Brethren Church article's History section says "The Dunkard Brethren are a branch of the Schwarzenau Brethren or Dunkards" - is this an indication that "dunkard" was a descriptive term used before it became part of a formalised group in 1926?"
That is precisely the issue I raised. "Dunkard Brethren" was not a formal church name at the time of naming the creek, nor for many years afterward, but "Schwarzenau Brethren" has become the commonly accepted name currently applied when referring to the original group from which quite a number of currently existing church groups sprang, of which the Dunkard Brethren is only one. As a member of a sister "Dunkard" group, I feel ALL of the current church groups should have equal representation in the Dunkard Creek entry by using the term they all claim (Schwarzenau Brethren) rather than referencing a single denomination which only came into existence in 1926. Since at the time of naming the creek the group had not formalized its name (see reference in "Church of the Brethren" article, Early History, paragraph 3, which states that the name "German Baptist Brethren" was "not officially recognized until 1836.") Also note that same paragraph concludes "Until the early 20th century, Brethren were colloquially called Tunkers or Dunkers..." I'm really suggesting a change of just one word -- but an important change -- from "Dunkard Brethren" to "Schwarzenau Brethren." It seems to me that the point I raise is clear and can scarcely be debated. Jhshuman (talk) 05:12, 13 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from TheLuckyGeneral (05:43, 22 July 2025)

[edit]

Hi AllyD

I just looked up an old friend and discovered his entry said four children when he has five. So I edited it and discovered that my account still exists: TheLuckyGeneral.

About 15 years ago a professional colleague created an entry for me - under Laurie Patton.

Years later I attempted to update it. Short story. A recalcitrant editor kept rejecting my changes and ultimately I had my entry removed.

I’ve done a few more notable things since then. If I forwarded you an updated version would you be willing to review it and determine if it’s worthy of being reinstated?

Thanks. --TheLuckyGeneral (talk) 05:43, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

If you draft a new biographical article, you should not place it directly as an article but instead use the WP:AFC process so that it will be reviewed. However I recommend first reading WP: AUTOBIOGRAPHY. AllyD (talk) 05:50, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
TheLuckyGeneral, looking at the name history, I am seeing 2 debates on notability (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Laurie Patton, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Laurie Patton (Australian executive)), with the latter leading to deletion in 2020. There are also associated accounts User:InternetAU and then User:Edit0695. It would be preferable for transparency if you could continue editing as Edit0695 rather than this new User:TheLuckyGeneral account. AllyD (talk) 06:23, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Barbalalaika (19:29, 29 July 2025)

[edit]

Hi Ally. Thank you for volunteering to be a mentor!

There is an article I've been wanting to edit for a while, the Bahia Emerald. I'd especially like to update it with new information. For this article, most information is available in the form of news articles. I haven't been able to find mentions in books or scientific literature (at least online). My question is: What is the best practice when using news articles as Wikipedia sources?

Thank you! --Barbalalaika (talk) 19:29, 29 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Ideally for verifiability, the news item would be one for which a URL could be included in the citation, but I appreciate that this is all too often not feasible for all news items; in that circumstance, you would provide as much as possible in the citation (publication, date, author). Before doing anything, I would suggest reviewing the existing references in the Bahia Emerald article, in case one of them already covers the additional information, in which case the citation can be reused. AllyD (talk) 19:40, 29 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the quick reply! Is there anything editors should watch out for when using news articles, something in the lines of avoiding the use of sensationalist or overly local media, etc.? Barbalalaika (talk) 20:11, 29 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Barbalalaika, the section at WP:NEWSORG is worth reading, and you may also want to check potential sources against WP:RSPLIST. AllyD (talk) 07:56, 30 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from SU5MSJ (23:55, 1 August 2025)

[edit]

Hi AlIy! I see you are my mentor. I would love your suggestions on how I can continue to improve this article. Thank you! --SU5MSJ (talk) 23:55, 1 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi SU5MSJ, presuming you mean the Kevin McGarry (actor) article, it could benefit from deeper integration with the Wiki, by adding double square brackets to link to the article's person's college, theatre groups, etc. Beyond that, while an AFD process on something one has written can feel arduous (which is one reason it is usually better to begin by making smaller edits to improve other articles before creating one), a lot can be learned from others' comment; reviewing these may help identify further improvements. And for the future, with what future coverage of the subject's ongoing career is worthy of note. AllyD (talk) 07:22, 2 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Another thing to mention: please take care to (a) include edit summaries for changes, and (b) not to mark substantial changes as minor. (e.g. [1], [2]). This helps other editors reviewing changes. AllyD (talk) 07:29, 2 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! I will work on all these things. Appreciate it. SU5MSJ (talk) 14:18, 2 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Letscontributes (15:08, 14 August 2025)

[edit]

Hi @AllyD, thank you for offering to help new editors—it's really appreciated!

I’ve been working on a draft article about techniques used to bypass Two-Factor Authentication (2FA). It was previously declined due to tone and sourcing concerns, but I’ve since made major revisions: Removed promotional and speculative language Rewritten vague or essay-like phrasing to be neutral and factual Added inline citations from reliable sources like Forbes, Ars Technica, SecureLayer7, and official documentation from Microsoft, Google, and Yahoo – Ensured the draft follows Wikipedia’s guidelines on structure and notability

Before I resubmit it to Articles for Creation, I’d be grateful if you could take a quick look and let me know if anything still needs improvement. Your feedback would mean a lot!

Thanks again,

Hi Letscontributes, leaving aside other editors' concerns about use of LLMs to draft articles and Talk page comments, my own first comments on Draft:2FABypass (2)Two Factor Authentication Bypass would relate to the quality of the references offered in the draft: (1) they are predominantly blogs, and (2) they are "raw URLs" rather than being wrapped in citation templates to express who is saying this and where, etc. . See WP:CITE. AllyD (talk) 19:37, 14 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, AllyD I appreciate you looking over my draft and giving me your thoughts.
Using the correct citation templates provided in WP:CITE, I have now gone over the entire article and fixed all citation formatting to conform to Wikipedia's requirements. The source, author (if available), publication date, and access date are now prominently displayed in each reference.
Although some of the sources are blogs, I have made sure they are from trustworthy cybersecurity companies (like Ping Identity, SecureLayer7, and NephoSec) and are used to bolster technical explanations rather than claims of notability. For added visibility, I've included articles from well-known publications that detail actual instances of 2FA bypass techniques, such as Forbes, Infosecurity Magazine, and Yahoo Finance.
I truly value your advice and will be pleased to make any additional changes that are required. Again, thank you! Letscontributes (talk) 01:25, 15 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

i wanted to add an infobox to their discography Bbencede (talk) 22:23, 28 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Well, you could add an Infobox artist discography but I would suggest this is not appropriate at this point. An Infobox is meant to summarise the information in an article's text. A lot of editors here don't like them as they detract from the actual article. In this case, with only some recent releases, I doubt an Infobox would add anything, but would merely squeeze the article making it more difficult for a reader. Question from Benedipete (04:30, 27 August 2025)

[edit]

Hello ,

How do I begin writing a biography of someone ? --Benedipete (talk) 04:30, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Benedipete, creating a whole new article isn't where I would choose to start but once you have the necessary references to demonstrate their notability you can follow these guidelines: WP:YFA. AllyD (talk) 06:01, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Looking for a writer for biography.

[edit]

Hello ,

I have an article and I am looking for a writer / editor .

would someone be interested in in writing it for me? Benedipete (talk) 04:46, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is a volunteer project where individual editors write about topics of interest to them, not a place for commissioned articles. I am placing the standard conflict-of-interest notice on your Talk page, as it may help explain further. AllyD (talk) 06:07, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

How to put my photo and say things about myself --Daly Musk (talk) 11:14, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Daly Musk, Wikipedia is not a place to write about yourself. See WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY. AllyD (talk) 11:30, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

How can I create an article?1 --Parthin101 (talk) 16:12, 29 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Parthin101, I wouldn't recommend heading straight to creating an article without first familiarising with wiki editing, but if you do want to, please read WP:YFA. AllyD (talk) 16:27, 29 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Boeing777xPilot (02:28, 1 September 2025)

[edit]

I have an image for the Medora Musical, How do I add it to the page. --Boeing777xPilot (talk) 02:28, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Boeing777xPilot, I am a bit confused: your user page says this is an alternate account of Boeing747Pilot and I notice that account previously placed images in articles a few months ago, for example in this edit? Anyway, that edit can provide an example of how to insert an image into Medora Musical, after you upload it using the upload wizard. AllyD (talk) 02:57, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from JoyfulFinance (22:57, 2 September 2025)

[edit]

Hi Ally,

I represent Happy Money, a financial technology company. I’ve compiled independent, reliable sources for a potential article.

I’d value your input on whether the subject meets notability standards and how best to approach working with a writer or editor. I want to ensure everything complies with Wikipedia’s neutrality and verifiability guidelines. Thank you in advance for your guidance!

JoyfulFinance (talk) 22:57, 2 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@JoyfulFinance Your username is against Wikipedia policy, and you are generally not permitted to write an article about yourself or the company you directly represent. Electricmemory (talk) 23:10, 2 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I do not intend to write the article about the company. I'm looking for an editor's help to do that according to Wikipedia's policies. Any guidance you can offer would be much appreciated! JoyfulFinance (talk) 23:12, 2 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No Wikipedia editor is going to write you an article about your company, either, as that is also against policy, and the subject is not notable to begin with. Electricmemory (talk) 23:14, 2 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
JoyfulFinance, while appreciative that you wish to stay within Wikipedia policies, I'd agree with Electricmemory's points above. I can't see circumstances where another editor would be prepared to work on the article that you seek, outside of circumstances that would fall under WP:COI. (I also note that you also asked your question on another user's Talk page.) AllyD (talk) 03:42, 3 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the guidance, AllyD! JoyfulFinance (talk) 13:41, 3 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello was to ask how can we make people know about this platform of letting people to believe and to share the experience of what we do right here --Lexywaz (talk) 01:51, 6 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Lexywaz, it appears you are meaning something other than the Nigerian currency article - rather, some online platform project that you are involved in? Anyway the answer is that Wikipedia is not a place to promote any project. See this summary page. AllyD (talk) 02:53, 6 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from OlleborLeumas (20:14, 9 September 2025)

[edit]

Hello AllyD, Could you comment on the page created? Any suggestions much appreciated.

Thanks --OlleborLeumas (talk) 20:14, 9 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi OlleborLeumas, from a quick look, the article looks well-structured. I do notice that the USC Viterbi reference is not found; I can find a brief faculty profile here instead. You should also hyperlink Society of Petroleum Engineers.in the text. I presume you are heading towards submitting the article via WP:AFC. Before doing that, though it is best to declare if you have any association with Robello Samuel (as per WP:COI). AllyD (talk) 20:28, 9 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your time and quick reply. Very much intrigued by the quick response. I have made the changes suggested by you. Could you please take a look at it one more time when you get time.
Thank you OlleborLeumas (talk) 21:20, 9 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I noted on your Talk page the issue of the Copyrighted photo, and I also tagged it on Commons. There are procedures whereby a copyright holder can release a photo - not something I have ever found myself in a position of needing to do, but see this page and email template instructions. AllyD (talk) 04:19, 10 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The Career section in the draft article could also benefit from hyperlinks to firms and institutions. AllyD (talk) 04:25, 10 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank. Could you please take a look at one more time if anything to be changed. OlleborLeumas (talk) 23:17, 10 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The draft article is well-formed. Presuming you would like this draft published to main space, your next stage will be to submit it through this process, where uninvolved editors will also consider whether the subject meets the notability criteria. One other thing - from here on, it will be important to provide an edit summary when publishing changes to this (or any other) article. It isn't so important when starting in a sandbox, but other editors do expect an edit summary for changes. AllyD (talk) 08:00, 13 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the guidance OlleborLeumas (talk) 16:12, 13 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Lllvfbb (13:26, 10 September 2025)

[edit]

Hello, how can I add a sidebar to the page of Lech Kaczyński? --Lllvfbb (talk) 13:26, 10 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Lllvfbb, template editing is one of the most complex things one could do. You have started developing this. I think what you would need is a template for presidents of Poland (you currently have a typo: PolIsh President), then a specific one for Kaczyński himself, which you would be copying into articles. I'd question whether this is needed: are there enough Kaczyński-specific articles to need this extra level of navigation, or would this become page litter? 14:03, 10 September 2025 (UTC) AllyD (talk) 14:03, 10 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
thanks for noticing the typo, I would like to create one for him because no other Polish politician has it Lllvfbb (talk) 14:17, 10 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Cinnamonman (12:47, 12 September 2025)

[edit]

Hi Ally - I'm new here. Just added a comment regarding a sentence I didn't like in this profile. Wondering if I should have just edited it...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Ben_Enwonwu --Cinnamonman (talk) 12:47, 12 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I have added my comments on that Talk page. On a more general point, I do think that you took the right approach; raising something on a Talk page gives other editors the chance to put a counter-view. Getting to a positive consensus can be a problem on a page which few people look at, but Ben Enwonwu has a healthy level of active work, so waiting a few days may bring others' views. Question from DragonsDarkened (15:14, 14 September 2025)

[edit]

Hello, what do I do if I don’t know anything about any of the recommended edits? --DragonsDarkened (talk) 15:14, 14 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi DragonsDarkened, it looks like you did proceed with quite a few edits, article links, etc. after posting this message. I hope these have been useful in becoming familiar and confident with Wiki editing. After that, there are various maintenance categories (such as this). The other thing is to move towards your own topic interests: once you start Watchlisting articles of interest (using the star in the top menu), you often see edits that need spelling or grammar fixes, etc. AllyD (talk) 18:27, 14 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure where else to put this so I'm going to put it here. There's an exit that I've noticed needs doing but I'm not sure how to do it.In the article 'Two Pence (British Decimal Coin) the images at the top of the page show the Royal Shield design as the current definitive design, despite there being a new definitive design (the Red Squirrel design).Just thought I'd mention this so that a more experienced editor could fix it. DragonsDarkened (talk) 15:38, 15 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The word 'exit' on the first line is meant to say 'edit'. DragonsDarkened (talk) 15:39, 15 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I agree it probably needs an encompassing update by an experienced wiki editor/numismatist, so maybe an opportunity to try out further wiki-tools! What I would suggest is that you add a new topic on Talk:Two pence (British decimal coin) to flag up refresh being needed for new coinage. Optionally, you could also add a Template:Update to the top of the article itself. AllyD (talk) 07:03, 16 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Cinnamonman (10:19, 22 September 2025)

[edit]

Hi Ally - Sorry to bug you again. I've been editing a few things recently. Mostly small. Came across my first dead (red) link on a page (3DLT) and thought I might add a stub. Saw there was a previous page that had been deleted, so don't know what the process/convention is here. Added a draft for you to see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Authentise

Let me know if you think that is ok? --Cinnamonman (talk) 10:19, 22 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Articles on companies have specific notability criteria. In the case of Authentise, there was a draft article which was deleted last month, and the contributor is now blocked for promotional editing. For articles about companies, it is always important to declare any connection: see WP:COI.
Regarding your draft, it looks to me that it would fall under WP:CORPTRIV. AllyD (talk) 19:21, 22 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Great feedback. That trivial guidance is helpful. I was under the impression that a stub would be more helpful than nothing at all. Is that not the case? If those stubs are limited to an "encyclopedia entry giving an overview of the history of an organization" WP:SUBSTANTIAL ? Cinnamonman (talk) 08:16, 23 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Updated the article a bit to address your feedback. Thanks again! Cinnamonman (talk) 10:03, 23 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If you think it still needs updating, please lmk. If not, how does one move a draft to published page? or is it as simple as copying it wholesale? I would wait a couple days in any case to see whether my appeal for feedback on the Talk page elicits any further comments. Excited to publish my first article, even if just a stub (probably the right place to start).
Thanks again for your help! Cinnamonman (talk) 10:21, 23 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, final comment. I found the link you linked before on articles for creation and know what to do once you have confirmed that the article now addresses your comments. Cinnamonman (talk) 10:24, 23 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It is better to place a separate subheading for the References (with two "=" on either side), then reflist in double curly brackets on the next linn.
I am also placing comments in that Talk feedback section. If you do go ahead with this Draft, yit would be reviewed under both the AFC and then the NPP processes. AllyD (talk) 13:06, 23 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
