Talk:Chris Chan

Christopher Chan Seng Heng instead of Chris Chan

[edit]

I'm suggesting this as the new name for the article because there is another Chris Chan, who is the most documented person on the internet, even if he isn't allowed to have a Wikipedia page. That way, it won't cause confusion. AadamK (talk) 21:55, 26 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not totally opposed to that idea, but a lot of Singaporean people-related articles, such as Amos Yee, only use their first two names as opposed to the whole thing. So in this case it would be moved to "Christopher Chan". - OpalYosutebitotalk』 『articles I want to eat22:08, 26 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose. We don't rename articles to disambiguate from people who don't have an article here. * Pppery * it has begun... 22:19, 26 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose per WP:COMMONNAME most articles use "Chris Chan" not any other 1timeuse75 (talk) 16:54, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose - there is no reason to change the title because no other person by that name has a Wikipedia page. If the title changed, the current would just redirect to the new title anyways. ArtemisiaGentileschiFan (talk) 18:27, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Chris ChanChristopher Chan Seng HengChristopher Chan Seng Heng – "Chris Chan" more commonly refers to a rather infamous figure known for creating a certain mashup between Sonic and Pikachu than a Singaporean esports player. I feel this article would be vandalism central under its current name. Dr. Precursor (talk) 23:29, 9 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose - see discussion above - OpalYosutebitotalk』 『articles I want to eat23:30, 9 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose – "Chris Chan" is the WP:COMMONNAME, and would in any case redirect to the article's new title (making it no less of a vandalism target). jlwoodwa (talk) 23:42, 9 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Good point. Dr. Precursor (talk) 01:48, 10 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If the moderators are so adamant about CWC not having a page of her own, the redirect that would result from the page move should be deleted as well. Dr. Precursor (talk) 01:50, 10 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No. Someone who is looking for our biography about this Singaporean executive is likely to enter the search term "Chris Chan"; we should not do them a disservice just because we do not want an article about an unrelated person with the same name. jlwoodwa (talk) 04:34, 10 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose and speedy close - see previous discussion. ArtemisiaGentileschiFan (talk) 01:02, 10 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. At this point, should it be added to a FAQ section? - OpalYosutebitotalk』 『articles I want to eat01:05, 10 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe. ArtemisiaGentileschiFan (talk) 01:31, 10 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Comment This article is not vandalism central because it is semi-protected. Curbon7 (talk) 03:15, 10 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose: every single source given in the article calls him simply Chris Chan. this is a clear-cut example of WP:COMMONNAME. even the Olympedia entry on him says that his used name is "Chris Chan". ―Howard🌽33 12:29, 10 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
