- Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
- Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
- In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
- Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
- Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like
<ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing). - In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
- If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References==
{{Reflist}}

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Regarding your recent edits to Cowen, West Virginia when you modified the page, you introduced unknown parameters. Just because you specify |some_param=some_variable does not always mean that variable will display. The |some_param= must be defined in the template. You can look at the documentation for the template you are using but it is also helpful to use the preview button before you save your edit; this helps you find any errors you have made and ensure that the values you have added are displaying correctly. Below the edit box is a Show preview button. Pressing this will show you what the page will look like without actually saving it. It is strongly recommended that you use this before saving. If you have any questions, contact the help desk for assistance.

- Bruh. I didn't know that "image" was an unknown parameter. I'm sorry... - OpalYosutebito 『talk』 『articles I want to eat』 18:02, 4 November 2025 (UTC)
CSD categories
[edit]Hello, OpalYosutebito,
I was looking at Category:Candidates for speedy deletion as unused maintenance categories and we can't delete all of these categories until they are emptied. Please do not tag categories for speedy deletion until they are actually ready to be deleted. It just confuses admins who might not be familiar with how categories operate on the project. It would be great if you could eithr emtpy these categories or remove the CSD tags until the categories are ready to be deleted. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 05:59, 7 November 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, @Liz
- I created these categories for stub templates I had created. Upon realizing that a standalone stub template requires at least 60 articles before it can be used, I upmerged most of these stubs, leaving most of the categories empty except for the stub template they were intended for. If these categories and associated stub templates cannot be deleted under C4, can they be deleted under G7? Zalaraz (talk) 07:03, 7 November 2025 (UTC)
