Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Animal rights

On Peter Singer's article he is listed on the animal rights template and under the animal rights scholars category. As far as I know Singer is not a rights advocate and has never described himself as such. The animal welfare template might be more appropriate. Please discuss. Psychologist Guy (talk) 21:37, 10 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn't classify animal welfare as a more appropriate category than animal rights for Singer. After his adoption of veganism, his claims are mostly centered on speciesism and rights-oriented arguments. Although, his work when he was a vegetarian would have made animal welfare a more apt category, I don't think that still stands true. AcidicAcid (talk) 06:08, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Unlikely that Singer is a vegan. I listened to a recent interview with him, he says he eats animal products if they are going to waste, he's also written in favour of eating insects and bivalves. Psychologist Guy (talk)

An early advocate of animal welfare, any help expanding the article would be appreciated. Psychologist Guy (talk) 20:45, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Scope of Nonkilling article

[edit]

Currently, the article Nonkilling largely deals only with the political facet of the concept as put forth by the Center for Global Nonkilling. Nonkilling, however, is a traditional and age-old philosophical concept of the Indian Subcontinent, appearing in ancient literature starting from the Vedas, where it originates from the concept of karma and ahimsa and gives rise to the culture of the region, including sattvic dietary concepts, vegetarianism, nonviolence, animal rights, altruism, etc. gradually morphing into modern forms such as veganism, anti-war movement, world peace, abolition of capital punishment, etc. That said, all these facets should be discussed under the scope of this article. The article needs to be expanded to include all these and other generic concepts. Seeking input from other editors and regular contributors on these subjects. Thanks. Wikipedia Page for Anthony J. Nocella

[edit]

Anthony J. Nocella (Anthony Joseph Nocella II) appears to be well-known in the animal rights movement (particularly "animal liberation") as well as some progressive movements. He can be described as an anarchist. His scholarly works and bibliography are commonly cited on this platform. I think he is deserving of a Wikipedia page given these facts. I will go ahead and add him on the "Articles that need work" section of this project's main page. He is not to be confused with Anthony Nocella (racing driver). Cage-free eggs as a disambiguation page?

[edit]

The current[5] version of Cage-free eggs is a redirect to Free-range eggs; this is of course incorrect and misleading. We could improve the encyclopedia by creating an article on Aviary system egg production or possibly Community-nest eggs, and then craft a WP:DAB disambiguation page providing links to both the new article and the free-range article. All of this should be non-controversial. For insight into how the industry sees this, check out the .pdf that can be found on this[6] equipment vendor page. does anyone care to add to the article Moral responsibility?

[edit]

In the "See also" section of the article Moral responsibility, I just added a link to the article Animal ethics.

Other than that Moral responsibility doesn't seem to have any mention of issues relating to non-human animals.

Does anyone care to add any (good, sourced) content to Moral responsibility?
