City Vision

[edit]

I need a bit more discussion about the City Vision article. Obviously, describing it as a political alliance between two national parties was inaccurate. But I think "ticket" is an even more ambiguous term than the previous description. Is it not just a local political party? I've done a little research on election in Auckland and it seems that to have an affiliation listed, you have to get legal permission to do so. And it sounds like if you do choose to list an affiliation, it has to be a political party. Is this not correct? But in any case, isn't City Vision a registered political party?

I guess I also have all of the questions or talking points I left on the article. It sounds like City Vision predates when the national parties began running candidates in Auckland elections. And perhaps that meant that at the national level, the candidates probably voted and/or ran as Labour or Green candidates. But I'm not sure if it makes sense to call these Labour or Green "candidates" in the context of the local elections, because that's not how they are choosing to run. So, as far as I can tell, the most accurate description of City View is a collection of voters/electors who are loosely associated with the national parties described.

It may seem a small difference, but I'd argue it's a significant one. City Vision appears to be a local political party if there needs to be a description of it, and not an "alliance" or parties or "ticket" of "affiliated candidates" of said national parties. Because, theoretically, the national parties many of these candidates are associated with are more than free to run their own candidates in these wards, too, but choose not to. If there is an "alliance" or "affiliation" between anything/anyone, it's between political parties: City Vision, Labor & Greens. City Vision can't even rightfully be called the local affiliate of the two national parties since it's not legally or even organizationally controlled by them. Okay, so they updated their website to read that they are "an unincorporated political grouping." I looked up unincorporated to make sure it didn't have some kind of distinct meaning it doesn't have in the States, and it does not. So then I guess this is not an actual political party; it doesn't even have legal personhood since it's an informal grouping without bylaws and such. But that makes things more confusing. Apparently, in New Zealand local elections, you have to have someone sign off on claiming an affiliation on the ballot. So...without some kind of legal personhood, who signs off on allowing people to run under this affiliation? Is there some informally designated "leader" of this unincorporated group or can anyone claiming to speak for it sign off on allowing its named to be used on the ballot? This is all so strange to me, and I'm sure I'm not alone, which is why I'd like that article to read as clearly as possible for outsiders. Because "ticket" still doesn't make any sense, mostly because the wikipedia article on "ticket" is not clear. Criticalthinker (talk) 20:48, 7 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Voter turnout

[edit]

I posted something about voter turnout. Maybe we need something about the Grey District Council election: "Something really exciting is happening in Grey District; they are way ahead of us at 21.5%." Schwede66 02:08, 27 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
