Sockpuppet coming back

[edit]

I noticed your patrolling activity at Đại Việt National Socialist Party, and it appears that sock accounts keep returning. I suspect they may be linked to Musée Annam, given his fixation on Vietnamese flags and political organizations, or possibly a new sock range.

These may or may not be related to each other, but are likely connected to the issue here:

I don’t mind if these accounts make constructive contributions, but the issue is that they often ignore citing sources, or when they do cite, the interpretations are poor. For example, in the case above, they lump various other organizations into the article in ways that do not make sense.

I have observed similar behavior and editing patterns on that page as well as on Đại Việt Duy Dân Đảng. I have filed reports at SPI and ANI, but it seems the admins are not very familiar with the sock history of disruptive activity.

If you could keep an eye on these pages and the accounts editing them, it would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if you need further information. Thank you. Greenknight dv (talk) 22:42, 30 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Sir, It has been a long time. I would like to get help, reviewing the edits which are done to the page Dhivehi Premier League. Since a non registered user is doing the edits, they are deleting the history completely and only leaving the newest implementations. ZZ47 (talk) 15:17, 14 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Vietnamese nationalism

[edit]

Just FYI, 14.177.234.137 immediately re-added the edit request on Talk:Vietnamese_nationalism after you removed it. I denied it (was in the process of denying the first when you reverted) then they deleted out my edit to make it look like it was unanswered. I'm sure you're used to dealing with them, but I have denied 5+ edit requests the last 24hrs on different Vietnamese pages that are almost certainly the same user: re-adding the exact same content verbatim as banned sock users. Sneaky lil bugger.

Just wanted to let you know. Nubzor [T][C] 01:28, 21 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Records and statistics

[edit]

The page is notable records and statistics. With respect, not just club records. This said, Nobby Solano holds the current record of 15 assists in a season. But, out of good faith to you, and to be considerate to your time and good faith edits, I will present a another citation that verifies Nolberto Solano is the club record holder for assists in a season, too. Thank you. Angloyearn (talk) 08:15, 21 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Possible block evasion and apology

[edit]

Dear Sir Sputnik,

I just saw an edit request by an IP user on Talk:Flag of South Vietnam, which made me a bit suspicious. To start with, I thought it was very similar to an edit request I had already answered ten days ago. Scrolling up that request, I saw that all the comments besides my own were crossed out over block evasion (by you). So I'd like to apologize for implementing their request, and I hope that my edit did not inadvertently vandalise the page. I also saw that an edit quite similar to the one I implemented had been reverted by @Izno.

I don't know where to report suspected abuse, but I also saw that you had reverted many of their edits on another page, so I hoped just bringing this to your attention would be enough.

Thanks in advance,

Slomo666 (talk) 16:55, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Slomo666: The userpage for User:Area5K, the editor who made the reverted edit you linked above, should shed some light on what's going on here. It identifies the blocked editor in question, and includes a link to the sockpuppet investigation page. You can report future abuse there, if you think it's necessary. If they're editing while logged out, simply reverting their edits is usually enough, in long term abuse cases like this. Reports of abuse are most useful if they've registered a new account, are consistently editing from the same IP address, or are consistently targeting the same article. Someone else has already decline the edit request as block evasion, and I've blocked the IP that made it. Sir Sputnik (talk) 21:49, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Nuke leftovers

[edit]

Hello, Sir Sputnik,

You "nuked" a lot of pages for deletion but this feature doesn't delete Talk pages so there are dozens and dozens of orphaned talk pages that still need to be deleted. Can you now take care of all of these? And also any redirects that exist? Thank you for handling this cleanup. Liz Read! Talk! 18:03, 30 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I think I got all of the broken redirects, now you just have several dozen talk pages to handle. Liz Read! Talk! 18:28, 30 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Liz: Thanks for the help. Nuke does actually have a (newly introduced?) feature for deleting talk pages and redirects that apparently doesn't work. TIL. Sir Sputnik (talk) 18:35, 30 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Footballers with same name, and shares same birth year

[edit]

Hello Sir Sputnik, For footballers who have the same full name, and shares same birth year, how can I set their Article page names? For example about two footballers whose name is Ahmed Rilwan, and both birth year is 1986. One is a midfielder and other is a forward. ZZ47 (talk) 09:36, 4 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@ZZ47: The convention in that case is to disambiguate by nationality or by birth month. If these are also the same for both of them, I'd ask for more input at WT:FOOTY. Sir Sputnik (talk) 15:42, 4 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Arbitration

  • After a motion, arbitration enforcement page protections no longer need to be logged in the AELOG. A bot now automatically posts protections at WP:AELOG/P. To facilitate this bot, protection summaries must include a link to the relevant CT page (e.g. [[WP:CT/BLP]]), and you will receive talk page reminders if you forget to specify the contentious topic but otherwise indicate it is an AE action.

Guide to temporary accounts

[edit]

Hello, Sir Sputnik. This message is being sent to remind you of significant upcoming changes regarding logged-out editing.

Starting 4 November, logged-out editors will no longer have their IP address publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account (TA) associated with their edits. Users with some extended rights like administrators and CheckUsers, as well as users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will still be able to reveal temporary users' IP addresses and all contributions made by temporary accounts from a specific IP address or range.

How do temporary accounts work?

Editing from a temporary account
  • When a logged-out user completes an edit or a logged action for the first time, a cookie will be set in this user's browser and a temporary account tied with this cookie will be automatically created for them. This account's name will follow the pattern: ~2025-12345-67 (a tilde, year of creation, a number split into units of 5).
  • All subsequent actions by the temporary account user will be attributed to this username. The cookie will expire 90 days after its creation. As long as it exists, all edits made from this device will be attributed to this temporary account. It will be the same account even if the IP address changes, unless the user clears their cookies or uses a different device or web browser.
  • A record of the IP address used at the time of each edit will be stored for 90 days after the edit. Users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will be able to see the underlying IP addresses.
  • As a measure against vandalism, there are two limitations on the creation of temporary accounts:
    • There has to be a minimum of 10 minutes between subsequent temporary account creations from the same IP (or /64 range in case of IPv6).
    • There can be a maximum of 6 temporary accounts created from an IP (or /64 range) within a period of 24 hours.

How to enable IP Reveal

Impact for administrators

  • It will be possible to block many abusers by just blocking their temporary accounts. A blocked person won't be able to create new temporary accounts quickly if the admin selects the autoblock option.
  • It will still be possible to block an IP address or IP range.
  • Temporary accounts will not be retroactively applied to contributions made before the deployment. On Special:Contributions, you will be able to see existing IP user contributions, but not new contributions made by temporary accounts on that IP address. Instead, you should use Special:IPContributions for this (see a video about IPContributions in a gallery below).

Rules about IP information disclosure

  • Publicizing an IP address gained through TAIV access is generally not allowed (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 previously edited as 192.0.2.1 or ~2025-12345-67's IP address is 192.0.2.1).
  • Publicly linking a TA to another TA is allowed if "reasonably believed to be necessary". (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 and ~2025-12345-68 are likely the same person, so I am counting their reverts together toward 3RR, but not Hey ~2025-12345-68, you did some good editing as ~2025-12345-67)
  • See Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer § What can and can't be said for more detailed guidelines.

Useful tools for patrollers

  • It is possible to view if a user has opted-in to view temporary account IPs via the User Info card, available in Preferences → Appearance → Advanced options → Tick Enable the user info card
    • This feature also makes it possible for anyone to see the approximate count of temporary accounts active on the same IP address range.
  • Special:IPContributions allows viewing all edits and temporary accounts connected to a specific IP address or IP range.
  • Similarly, Special:GlobalContributions supports global search for a given temporary account's activity.
  • The auto-reveal feature (see video below) allows users with the right permissions to automatically reveal all IP addresses for a limited time window.

ArbCom 2025 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2025 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 1 December 2025. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2025 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:26, 18 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Account 2025-34903-64

[edit]

Hi Sir Sputnik. Would you mind taking a look at Special:Contributions/~2025-34903-64? You reverted an edit made by Debasten to File:Egyptian Football Association logo.svg on November 13 as being made by a sockpuppet account, and this IP made the same edit to that file page (and lots of similar edits to other file pages) earlier today. Perhaps it's the same person. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:08, 19 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
