Question about formatting references

[edit]

Hi, could you confirm that my article Antisemitism in health care requires dozens of "page needed" tags which have been added recently? Feels excessive to me, but maybe I'm wrong? Thanks! Allthemilescombined1 (talk) 23:50, 4 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I think that's a better question posed to @Cdjp1 who added the tags; but yes, it's best practice to cite a page within a reference book.
Also, while you did create the article, using phrases like "my article" is generally poor form, see WP:OWNmacaddct1984 (talk | contribs) 11:49, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I've added them for citations which are multiple pages long. Best practice for WP is to specify the exact page the information is taken from as opposed to say the entirety of a 20-page book chapter. I have already provided specific pages for some of the citations. -- Cdjp1 (talk) 11:55, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I thought @Cdjp1 has been 'following me around' per WP:HOUND, but perhaps I just need to resign myself to @Cdjp1 coming along and correcting my work over and over. Agree that the phrase "my article" is poor form; I apologize for that. Allthemilescombined1 (talk) 22:46, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Other examples of @Cdjp1 'correcting' my work to my dismay[1][2][3] Allthemilescombined1 (talk) 23:43, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
in the past day or two Allthemilescombined1 (talk) 00:01, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
My apologies if you dislike the style Wikipedia employs for writing, you can request the relevant guidance on style be changed if you wish at their talk pages. -- Cdjp1 (talk) 08:03, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I would also suggest reading HOUND again, as the core necessity for actions to be considered within it's remits is lacking. -- Cdjp1 (talk) 08:07, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Cdjp1 I perceived your following me around as hounding, but you are welcome to explain why it's not. Please take care around WP:CIVIL, specifically using a respectful tone. Allthemilescombined1 (talk) 10:00, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Cdjp1 I have a question for you: what is a respectful way to ask someone to review proper usage of the apostrophe in "its" vs "it's"? As in "the core necessity for actions to be considered within its remits is lacking"? Allthemilescombined1 (talk) 10:03, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
In this case "it's" is correct, due to possession. As to hounding, the edits require a pattern of editing that has the aim of causing the negative emotions listed. As per the edit summaries and the types of edits engaged in, you will find they are the same sort of edits that I engage in across a wide and broad range of articles that are well within WP guidance on style alongside other policies. -- Cdjp1 (talk) 10:12, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
In this case "it's" is correct, due to possession. You were right the first time! "it's" is exclusively used as a contraction of "it is/has" – macaddct1984 (talk | contribs) 11:34, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
One of the many reasons that English is a terrible language. -- Cdjp1 (talk) 12:55, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Macaddct1984 Could you please clarify for me what distinguishes the edits by @Cdjp1 on Antisemitism in health care and [1][2][3] from following me around per WP:HOUND? Allthemilescombined1 (talk) 21:46, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think it's really my place to make that distinction/determination. If you're truly concerned, I would advise heading over to WP:ANImacaddct1984 (talk | contribs) 21:52, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

So make this edit

Request for explanation of removal on the article 'List of newspapers in the United Arab Emirates'

[edit]

Hi Mac,

I hope this message finds you well.

Could you please clarify why Emirati Times and GCC Business News were removed from the English-language section of the article 'List of newspapers in the United Arab Emirates'?

Appreciate your time and assistance.

Regards,

EM Newseditorem (talk) 14:01, 5 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I removed them because they we're against Wikipedia's policy on external links and Wikipedia is not a repository of links, and they did not have an internal article on Wikipedia. – macaddct1984 (talk | contribs) 02:16, 6 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

And thus you mindlessly restored Russian propaganda

[edit]

Calling the Russian aggression "Spedial Military Operation" and calling the aggressor propaganda website "Lostarmour, an OSINT analysys [sic, and there are other errors such as Random Capitalization you also restored] website".

Revert yourself. Specifically to my neutral version ("the war with Ukraine", "Russian website").

This is the sort of "OSINT analysys" we talk about:

"The destruction of a U̶k̶r̶a̶i̶n̶i̶a̶n̶ NATO army [the word was purposely crossed out] armored column in the Russian region of Zaporizhzhia. Unforgettable images," wrote Lost Armour, a military blogger with 22,000 followers. https://www.lemonde.fr/en/international/article/2023/06/10/moscow-tries-to-impose-its-narrative-of-a-failed-ukrainian-counter-offensive_6030757_4.html

Which of course goes along with the "SMO" nonsense by whoever wrote this article, and you didn't even look into it at all.

I honestly should have just removed the ebtire Lostarmour sentence/pargraph. And you should too.

Interpretation of a dynamic map as original research

[edit]

Greetings Macaddct1984! I saw that at Talk:2025 Belgorod Oblast incursion#Extended-confirmed-protected edit request on 04 August 2025, you referred to the interpretation by users of dynamic maps such as DeepStateMap.Live as essentially amounting to original research, so I was interested in your thoughts on how Dobropillia offensive#Territorial control is being approached. Thanks! SaintPaulOfTarsus (talk) (contributions) 15:36, 15 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I think that use case seems a bit more acceptable, provided the source is indeed reliable. My issue with the edit request on the Oblast incursion article was going further than just saying "as per this map, it is occupied" to instead say "this map used to show X, now it shows Y, and we should take from that a result of Ukrainian failure" – macaddct1984 (talk | contribs) 15:46, 15 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, makes sense! SaintPaulOfTarsus (talk) (contributions) 15:53, 15 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect help / advise

[edit]

Hiya!

You rejected my Redirect suggestion for Namco system 753 redirecting to the correct 357.

The reason i did it in the first place was I myself was a user accidentally putting in 753 instead of 357. You mention advising of a source for it being a common misspelling?

Anyway, not here to dispute, but wanted your advise on when a redirect is necessary? Thought Flipped numbers was an easy enough mistake (and seeing as i had done it myself before when trying to get to the correct wiki page) to be a redirect, but your comment makes it sound like it should only be more for common alternative names? just want to make sure i avoid more unnecessary redirect requests in the future.

Cheers! WikiPidge (talk) 08:11, 28 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
