Changing of the CTOP alert substitutions
[edit]Hey there, I was just curious on your recent edits to CTOP alerts on various user talk pages where you moved the automatically placed invisible note location? Shouldn’t we rather fix the template? Are you making these changes on behalf of ArbCom? Raladic (talk) 15:29, 25 September 2025 (UTC)
- @Raladic: No. The template {{Contentious topics/alert/first}}; especially this section, the parameter
|2=or|sig=must be signed inside the template, not the outside template like this:{{subst:Contentious topics/alert/first}} ~~~~. For example,{{subst:Contentious topics/alert/first|sig=~~~~}}or{{subst:Contentious topics/alert/first|~~~~}}. - Signature inside the template is optional as you can see in the Template data table.
- Whether an invisible editor comment is before or after the signature makes no functional difference to editing experience.
- The reason it's optional is so that there's no double-signatures if the template is used with the new DiscussionTools that became default 3 years ago on en-wiki, which conveniently I can just hit "Add Topic", past in the
{{subst:ct/alert/first|gg}}and hit submit. - There is no need for you to chase after users who are doing so. Raladic (talk) 18:33, 25 September 2025 (UTC)
