Information icon Hello, I'm Belbury. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Biryani, but you didn't provide a reliable source. On Wikipedia, it's important that article content be verifiable. If you'd like to resubmit your change with a citation, your edit is archived in the page history. If you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Belbury (talk) 11:45, 21 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi Joebrans! I noticed that you've made several edits in order to restore your preferred version of Biryani. The impulse to repeatedly undo an edit you disagree with is understandable, but I wanted to make sure that you're aware of Wikipedia's edit warring policy. Repeatedly undoing the changes made by other users in a back-and-forth fashion like this is disallowed, even if you feel what you're doing is justifiable.

All editors are expected to discuss content disputes on article talk pages in order to try to reach a consensus with the other editors involved. If you are unable to come to an agreement at Talk:Biryani, please use one of the dispute resolution options that are available in order to seek input from others. Using this approach instead of repeatedly reverting other editors' changes can help you avoid getting drawn into edit wars. Thank you. Belbury (talk) 12:14, 21 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at Biryani, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources to see how to add references to an article. Hi, thanks for trying to add sources (even if unformatted), but neither of them actually said that Arab traders brought the dish to Kerala, so they are not usable for this purpose. I've actually no idea why you are so insistent on the word "Kerala" as "Malabar Coast" describes the same bit of coast, but since you seem to prefer it, we can use that. We must however continue to say "Calicut" since that is what it was called at the time, and the source uses it. I do hope this is clear, as your editing is now verging on WP:DISRUPTIVE and edit-warring, which is forbidden on Wikipedia. You have been blocked from editing from certain pages (Biryani) for a period of 2 weeks for edit warring. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions.
During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please review Wikipedia's guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  ~ ToBeFree (talk) 03:42, 22 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to the region of South Asia (India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal), broadly construed, including but not limited to history, politics, ethnicity, and social groups, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia's norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Additionally, you must be logged in, have 500 edits, and have an account age of 30 days in order to make edits related to two subtopics: (1) Indian military history, or (2) social groups, explicitly including caste associations and political parties related to India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

I would also recommend reviewing WP:ECREXPLAIN if you are uncertain how to observe the editing restrictions described above. signed, Rosguill talk 20:26, 23 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
