Works by person
[edit]If you want {{Category works by person}} to be used on "Films directed by X" categories, then could you please take steps to ensure that it doesn't place the category it's used on directly into Category:Films by director?
WikiProject Film has an established consensus that because there are well over 10,000 "Films by [Specific Individual Director]" categories, which would make the base category massively unbrowsable due to size, we don't want individual directors' categories to be filed directly in Category:Films by director itself — individual director categories should all be diffused into appropriate subcategories, such as the relevant nationality child of Category:Films by director nationality and/or the appropriate "[Genre] films by director" category (e.g. Category:Animated films by director, Category:Documentary films by director) if the director is associated with a specific genre of film that has one, and we don't want any individual director categories to appear directly in the Category:Films by director parent itself.
But if the template is used, then it places the director's category directly in Category:Films by director, where we don't want it to be, and the only way to get it out of there is to remove the template entirely. So if you want that template to be used on "Films directed by [Specific Individual Director]" categories, then can you please ensure that it doesn't file them in Category:Films by director? Thanks. - Unclear why you didn't take the time to go over the documentation or examples. I've actually took the time to write those. Category:Films directed by J. J. Abrams is not in Category:Films by director. Gonnym (talk) 08:16, 6 September 2025 (UTC)

Why?
[edit]I have some very clear evidence as to why I should invoke the Wanda/Yelena first name rule with Elektra in Daredevil Season 2:
1) In the 2005 film with Jennifer Garner, she is referred to by FIRST NAME.
2) The Deadpool and Wolverine article ALSO refers to her by first name, and this is part of the MCU.
3) Finally, and most importantly, HER SUPERHERO NAME IS ELEKTRA. If her hero name was her last name I'd understand, but NO, her first name is her hero name. HiGuys69420 (talk) 08:32, 25 September 2025 (UTC)
- There is no "evidence" needed. The articles follow the MoS guideline to use last names. This is used almost consistently across all MCU articles. Other articles can do other stuff for various reasons. Gonnym (talk) 08:40, 25 September 2025 (UTC)
- I mean, like MOS: LASTNAME doesn't really apply to everything. It's like how we call Chris Redfield from Resident Evil "Chris", and Riley Anderson from Inside Out "Riley", or how we refer to Dexter Morgan by his first name. HiGuys69420 (talk) 08:42, 25 September 2025 (UTC)
- Also do u know where the MCU Last name Discussion is? HiGuys69420 (talk) 08:43, 25 September 2025 (UTC)

FYI
[edit]I see you are making some improvements at Module:Person date/sandbox. Thank you!! Wanted to make sure you saw this change that I had to make to the module. Want to make sure you incorporate that into what you are doing. Thanks again! — Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 18:54, 26 September 2025 (UTC)
- Do you have a testcases page that you test the module code? Gonnym (talk) 18:56, 26 September 2025 (UTC)
- So kinda? We have Template:Infobox person/birth/testcases setup… as well as the documentation at Template:Infobox person/birth/doc and Template:Infobox person/death/doc. But none of those are properly setup to compare Module:Person date with Module:Person date/sandbox.
- I started to go down that road, but got distracted. Template:Infobox person/birth/sandbox and Template:Infobox person/death/sandbox should be properly established to point to the sandbox of the module, but a true testcase page has yet to be configured. Up until about 48 hours ago there was no need for a sandbox of the module. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 19:00, 26 September 2025 (UTC)
- Sorry about missing the doc update. Thanks for tagging me in the edit summary. Did a search to make sure there are no other templates/modules pointing to the old category. Looks like its just a couple of sandboxes which I’m not going to touch. — Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 07:45, 27 September 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah those don't need to change. Gonnym (talk) 07:48, 27 September 2025 (UTC)
