WAM CAT

[edit]

Hi, I removed the tag of CSD from WAM CAT, it’s a tracking category. The campaign will start on 1 November 2025, using the CAT on the same time. Warm Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 12:13, 18 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It's not a tracking category. It's a regular category as any other. You shouldn't be creating categories before they are actually needed and you should never misuse that template that verifies that empty categories get deleted, as they should. Gonnym (talk) 12:35, 18 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

MOS:APO

[edit]

Hi, Gonnym. I came across the RfD for the now deleted MOS:APO and notice that it has 81 incoming links. WP:RFDAI suggests that the deleting admin should "... still need to manually check the history and incoming links for a deleted redirect ...". Would you happen to know what the correct procedure is here? Selectively replace MOS:APO with WP:APOS as you suggested in ns:1? Best, Sam Sailor 15:33, 20 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

If the link is from a project, category, template page then replacing it is correct. If it's from old talk discussions, then that isn't as clear. Some editors don't touch those and leave it be, others do. So can't recommend any course of action here. I saw only two newsletter pages that should be fixed and did so. Curiosity

[edit]

Out of curiosity, why didn't you just redirect {{Disappeared year and age}}? Just curious. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 06:52, 21 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not a fan of redirects. I believe that their hidden cost is greater than their value. Now if the redirect is widely used, then fine, it can stay, but if the page was just created, I'd rather nip it in the bud. Gonnym (talk) 11:43, 21 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That makes sense! Thanks for the reply. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 17:34, 21 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Using {{Wrapper}} instead of {{Wraps infobox}}

[edit]

Hi, Gonny. A few days ago, you went through and changed uses of {{Wraps infobox}} to {{Wrapper}}. That's fine, but the information in the notice box has changed. When {{Wraps infobox}} uses |wrapped=1, then {{Wrapper}} should use |all=1 to tell editors that all parameters are already implemented. Otherwise we get spurious edit requests like this one. I'll go through and fix these, but thought you should know if you're going to change this in the future. — hike395 (talk) 12:11, 21 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, thanks for that. I missed that parameter. Gonnym (talk) 12:24, 21 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

RFC

Thought you would find this RFC regarding updating WP:T5 interesting... Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 00:28, 23 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question about hidden {{efn}} workaround

[edit]

Hi Gonnym,

I noticed that you removed this line with the edit summary "this is invalid syntax and should never be done":

{{#if:||<div style="display:none;">{{efn|name=fn1}}<!-- Forces fn1 as [a] before infobox, hidden --></div>}}

I was using it to make sure that the named note (fn1) appears before the infobox, since the lettering can otherwise come out of order if reused later in the lead. Could you clarify what exactly makes this "invalid syntax" and whether there's a recommended way to control {{efn}} order in infoboxes?

I want to make sure that I follow best practices rather than using a hack.

Thanks, R.L (talk) 15:50, 12 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

A note should follow text, as in George Hume, also spelled Home{{efn|name=fn1}}. The above code has a note connected to nothing. It's completely fine for the note to come after the infobox and for it not to be the letter "a". There is no significance for the lettering. In fact, seeing as the birth date field also has a note and comes before the name, it also makes more sense. If you were talking about something else that is causing an issue, then please explain again. Gonnym (talk) 16:10, 12 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your prompt reply. The visible notes do follow text, but my hidden one did not. If that's considered a violation, perhaps the only way to avoid seeing "b" before "a" is to remove the notes from the infobox entirely. Do you have any other suggestions for avoiding the awkward ordering?
R.L (talk) 18:32, 12 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
But (a) it doesn't matter that "b" is before "a", but also, that isn't correct. The date note comes before the name note, because that is the order in which the infobox shows them. That's perfectly fine. Regarding your other question, infobox usually don't need references in the infobox (see MOS:INFOBOXCITE). The guideline does not address notes, but the same logic can be applied to notes. Gonnym (talk) 11:01, 13 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
