Reaching out
[edit]Hi there. I just wanted to thank you for making some nice improvements to the articles that I’ve overhauled or created recently.
I’m planning on overhauling a lot of articles on Medieval Albania in the next few weeks. I’ve already done so for the Jonima articles and I’ve now begun work on the Zaharia articles, so hopefully we’ll be able to collaborate in this regard. I can see that you’ve written some articles that have passed their GA nominations - fantastic work, btw - and I want to bring the majority of these Medieval Albanian articles to a GA standard.
I’ve been able to access a lot of sources which I’d require for these articles and so forth, but I’m not great with the images. You’ve added some nice pictures to the Jonimas and Nikollë Zaharia, for example, so things like that might go a long way. Also, I’m not sure if you’re much of a map-maker? If not, I might give it a try to just map out the principalities at certain time periods. Botushali (talk) 22:58, 21 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hello! Yes no problem Medieval Albania is my speciality so whenever a new article relating to that comes out I just like to improve it even more. But I agree I also want to bring as many Medieval Albanian articles to GA standard as well. Regarding the maps Im not much of a map maker but I did make one map for the Principality of Mataranga but I need a better one to be made. But a really good map maker you could contact is Nishjan. I also have a recommendation for your overhauls you should try and include a Bibliography just to show the list of all the sources that was used in the article it makes it look more organized, you could see an example of this with my Gjergj Thopia article. But other than that I would love to collaborate because I dont have access to alot of Albanian sources only more western ones so that would be great. Thanks again! - Great - so the bibliography is just re-listing the references or do you typically sfn cite instead?
- In terms of sources, no worries - if there’s anything in particular you’d like to look at or if you have a list of them, let me know and I’ll see if I’ve got it somewhere. That includes sources in other languages too - French, German, Italian, Serbo-Croatian etc.
- Yes, I’ve seen Nishjan’s work, great map-maker. For the Matranga family, perhaps you could crop Nishjan’s map on the Albanian principalities? I’m pretty sure they’re included.
- I’ll be working on Koja Zaharia next, followed by Lekë and any other members of the Zaharia family. Once that’s done, I’ll probably overhaul the article on the Zaharia family itself. In the meantime, I’ll see if there’s anything I could do about a map using Inkscape. Botushali (talk) 23:43, 21 September 2025 (UTC)
- Yes it's basically just re-listing the references and yes I do sfn cite. I don't have anything in particular yet but thanks for offering cause I mostly just have English sources. For the mataranga map nishjan said he could make one when he finds the time so that should be great cause his other maps looks fantastic. Regarding the Zaharia family maybe you can help me with Koja's daughter Boglia Zaharia they took her page down cause it didn't have enough personal information with the sources I had so maybe with your sources it will be enough. Let me know how the map on Inkscape works out and I'm excited to help collaborate on the new pages you overhaul! Arberian2444 talk 00:10, 22 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hey! I finished a map on the Jonima family under Dhimitër Jonima, ca. 1394 - [1]. Let me know what you think. I tried to keep it somewhat consistent with maps that we already have on the Albanian principalities. If you think it's good, feel free to start using it on articles! Botushali (talk) 10:56, 22 September 2025 (UTC)
- Wow that is very amazing! Would you be able to do one for the Principality of Mataranga as well? You should try and do this for all the domains and principalities like the Zaharia! Arberian2444 talk 18:35, 22 September 2025 (UTC)
- I will be doing the Zaharia map as soon as I get around to overhauling their articles. I’ve seen sources describe Koja Zaharia as the lord of Danjë, Sapa, and Shati, and that his lands bordered those of Dhimitër Jonima’s to Jonima’s north.
- In terms of the Matranga map, I assume you’re asking for a map on their greatest extent under Vlash Matranga? Sure, I can give it a try when time permits, but it would be good if you could highlight which sources to use as I’ve never really reviewed the sources regarding the family. Basically, just all the sources that mention their possessions, and then I’d know what to draw. Botushali (talk) 23:05, 22 September 2025 (UTC)
- Also do you happen to have the book Das venezianische Albanien (1392-1479)? Arberian2444 talk 22:15, 22 September 2025 (UTC)
- That’s been one of the most difficult books to find and get my hands on. I’ve even searched libraries and the like to no avail. However, the Google Books version allows you to search for terms within the book, and it then gives you a preview of the pages in which that term is found. You could try that method - as long as you find a direct quote, you can use it. Botushali (talk) 23:08, 22 September 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah I tried But It leaves out the important information I need.Arberian2444 talk 23:22, 22 September 2025 (UTC)
- But I recently just published a new article about Fior Jonima if you have any other sources that discuss him feel free to add onto the article!Arberian2444 talk 00:10, 23 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hows it going with the Zaharia map? Arberian2444 talk 19:31, 25 September 2025 (UTC)
