Question from Lindassrvcs (01:23, 1 August 2025)
[edit]Hi Ampimd, I'm working on an article about Link Luckett, a helicopter pilot known for an early high-altitude rescue on Denali. The draft was declined for lack of sources, and while I’ve since uncovered additional newspaper coverage and archival materials (e.g., Carnegie Hero Fund, university archives, etc.), I’m still looking for ways to strengthen the article’s notability—particularly regarding his later work with Air America and his contributions to international flight operations.
My aim isn’t just to tell one man’s story, but to show how his actions intersected with the evolution of rotary aviation—especially how his 1960 Denali rescue helped demonstrate what helicopters were capable of at a time when their limits were still being tested.
Would university archives or publications like Impulse (Carnegie Hero Fund) be considered reliable enough for biographical claims? And I’ve found a full obituary published in the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette—is that solid enough to support birth/death/family facts?
Thanks in advance—really appreciate your time. --Lindassrvcs (talk) 01:23, 1 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hello [User:Lindassrvcs|Lindassrvcs]], thanks for sharing the context on your draft and the additional sources you’ve uncovered. This is an interesting subject, and you’re right that the wider significance of helicopter operations (e.g. Denali, Air America, early high-altitude rescues) can help establish notability if covered in reliable secondary sources.
- On your specific points:
- University archives – These can be useful if they contain published or curated materials (e.g. digitised collections, oral histories, newsletters). However, raw archival documents (like unpublished correspondence) are generally treated as primary sources. You can use them sparingly for uncontroversial details, but they won’t carry much weight in establishing notability.
- Impulse (Carnegie Hero Fund) – If it’s a published periodical with editorial oversight, it can often be used as a reliable secondary source for factual claims about awards and recognition. The Carnegie Hero Fund’s own website is also fine for verifying award details.
- Obituary (Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette) – Yes, that’s usually considered reliable for straightforward biographical data (birth/death, immediate family, career highlights). Be cautious with anecdotes or evaluative language—those should be backed up with independent news coverage if possible.
- To strengthen notability overall, the key is to find independent coverage in newspapers, aviation journals, or books that discuss his rescues or later aviation work in detail. Even a handful of solid secondary sources that go beyond routine reporting can make the difference.
- A couple of next steps you might consider:
- Search databases like ProQuest, Newspapers.com, or Google Books for references in aviation history or mountaineering literature.
- Frame the article not only around his biography but also around the impact of his work on helicopter rescue practices—since notability often rests on the broader significance, not just individual heroism.

Adding articles
[edit]How do I add articles to the wiki? ウィキタイムズ (talk) 16:45, 4 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hello ウィキタイムズ, welcome! 👋
- On Wikipedia, new articles are usually created through the Article Wizard or the Draft namespace:
- If you’d like step-by-step guidance, try the Article Wizard. It will walk you through writing and submitting a new page.
- Many editors prefer starting in their Draft space. This lets you develop the article and request feedback before it goes live.
- Before starting, I recommend reading:
- Wikipedia:Your first article – practical tips.
- Wikipedia:Notability – explains what makes a subject suitable for its own article.
- Wikipedia:Reliable sources – shows what kinds of references are required.
- That should help you get started! If you’d like, you can draft your article in your sandbox and ask for feedback from experienced editors before submission.
- Happy editing! ✨

Question from Bill Harcourt (12:28, 7 August 2025)
[edit]Hi thanks for agreeing to be a mentor. I am hoping to create a page for my father, a well recognised mid century furniture designer. I thought my work in a 'sandbox' represented a draft, but someone seems to have deleted it before I thought the draft was ready. how do I avoid this happening?
Bill H --Bill Harcourt (talk) 12:28, 7 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Bill, thanks for your message. 👋 Creating an article about someone you’re closely related to (such as your father) can be tricky, because of Wikipedia’s conflict of interest guideline. To keep things neutral, it’s usually best not to write the article yourself.
- What you can do:
- Collect independent, reliable sources (books, newspapers, academic journals, design magazines, etc.) that discuss your father and his work in depth. These are essential for meeting Wikipedia’s notability requirements for designers and artists.
- Instead of drafting in your sandbox, you can create a page at Draft:Your father’s name, where other editors may help improve it.
- Alternatively, you can post the reliable sources and a draft outline at the Requested articles page, so that independent editors can consider starting the article.
- Because of your close connection, the best approach is usually to provide sources and request help, rather than publishing the article yourself. This ensures neutrality and increases the chance that the article will meet Wikipedia’s standards.
- Best wishes,

Question from MattMCN608 (23:12, 13 August 2025)
[edit]If I’m interested in submitting an article to Wikipedia from my “Sandbox”, how will I do so? --MattMCN608 (talk) 23:12, 13 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Matt, 👋 thanks for the question. If you’ve drafted your article in your sandbox', you can submit it for review through the Articles for Creation (AfC) process:
- Go to your sandbox draft.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page. You should see a grey box with a button that says “Submit your draft for review”.
- Click that, and your draft will be moved into the Draft: namespace (if it isn’t there already) and placed in a review queue for other editors to check.
- An experienced reviewer will then look at your draft, checking whether it has enough reliable sources, is written in a neutral tone, and whether the subject meets notability guidelines.
- 👉 If your sandbox draft doesn’t already start with
Draft:Title, you can also move it there yourself by using the Move tab at the top of the page, and selecting “Draft” as the new namespace. - For more detail, see:
- Best,

Question from Dinaglyphs (17:06, 15 August 2025)
[edit]Hello Ampimd, I hope you are well. I'm new to wiki and I'm here mainly to contribute new articles and update existing ones.
You have been recommended to mentor me and I hope to get some useful tips on how to write Wikipedia compliant articles and efficient citations.
I look forward to reading from you.
Thanks --Dinaglyphs (talk) 17:06, 15 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hello Dinaglyphs, 👋 welcome to Wikipedia, and thanks for reaching out! I’d be glad to help as your mentor.
- Since you’re interested in writing new articles and improving existing ones, here are some first tips that will make your contributions much smoother:
- Start small – Before jumping into creating a brand-new article, try making improvements to existing pages. This helps you learn the style and formatting used across Wikipedia.
- Wikipedia’s writing style – Articles should be written in a neutral tone (no promotional language), based on verifiable information from reliable sources. Original thoughts or unpublished ideas don’t fit here (see no original research).
- Citations – The easiest way to add references is by using the Cite tool in the editing toolbar. But if you’d like to do it in wikicode, the format looks like this:
<ref>{{cite web |title=Article title |url=https://example.com |website=Example News |date=15 August 2025 |access-date=15 August 2025}}</ref>See Help:Referencing for beginners for a step-by-step guide. - Creating new articles – New editors are encouraged to draft in their sandbox or the Draft: namespace, then submit via [[WP:AFC|Articles for Creation]]. This allows other editors to review your draft before it goes live.
- Good places to learn –
- Wikipedia:Tutorial – a short interactive guide.
- Help:Your first article – tips on drafting and submitting.
- Wikipedia:Manual of Style – the style rules that make articles consistent.
- Feel free to ask me questions at any point — whether it’s about formatting, sources, or finding the right notability criteria. 🙂
- Best wishes,
- — 🖋️ Ampimd (talk) 21:16, 16 August 2025 (UTC)
Question from Mrwikiproblockchain (13:47, 16 August 2025)
[edit]Hi, please I would like you help explain when best or duration a new account can wait before publishing an article or what are the requirements he/she needs to meet, thanks. --Mrwikiproblockchain (talk) 13:47, 16 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hello Mrwikiproblockchain, 👋 thanks for your question.
- There’s actually no minimum time or duration a new account must wait before creating an article. However, in practice, it’s strongly recommended that new editors spend some time learning the basics first — for example, editing existing articles, adding citations, and getting used to Wikipedia’s style. This helps avoid the frustration of having a first article deleted too quickly.
- Here are the main requirements to keep in mind before publishing:
- Notability – The subject must meet Wikipedia’s notability guidelines. This usually means there are multiple, independent, reliable sources that cover the topic in detail (not just passing mentions).
- Reliable sources – Use reliable, published sources (e.g. books, academic journals, mainstream news). Self-published sources, blogs, or promotional material usually don’t count.
- Neutral tone – Articles must follow neutral point of view— no promotional or biased language.
- No original research – Everything must be backed by verifiable sources; personal knowledge or unpublished material isn’t acceptable (WP:OR).
- Article creation process –
- New users normally create drafts in their sandbox or the Draft: namespace, then submit through Articles for Creation for review.
- Autoconfirmed users (accounts at least 4 days old with 10+ edits) can technically publish directly to mainspace, but it’s still wise to go through AfC until you’re confident about the notability and sources.
- In short: there’s no waiting period, but the real “requirement” is having a well-sourced, neutral, notable topic written in Wikipedia’s style. Starting in Draft is the safest path for new editors. Ampimd (talk) 21:22, 16 August 2025 (UTC)

Can you please tell me about the basics of Wikipedia editing? Thanks a lot --Ritock (talk) 14:36, 1 September 2025 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Hi, Ritock, and welcome to Wikipedia! I'll put a welcome with more information on your talk page, but Help:Editing explains a lot about the basics, and Help:Getting started is a good place to look for finding more information! There's a lot of stuff there, so feel free to ask questions – the Teahouse is a great place to ask about general questions, and you can also ask more here. Is there anything specific you're hoping to learn to edit, or anything you're interested in editing that you have questions about? Happy editing, Perfect4th (talk) 15:47, 1 September 2025 (UTC)
Mentee questions
[edit]Hi Ampimd! I'm another new user mentor on the English Wikipedia. Some of those involved with the growth team features such as mentorship were looking at questions that hadn't been responded to yet to see if any mentors were inactive and needed to be marked 'away', and your talk page came up. You've got several unanswered questions on your talk page; would you like to be marked as away at this time?
It also looks like you used a large language model for some of your answers. Is there a specific reason for responding via LLM and not on your own words? I haven't found generative AI to be very useful on Wikipedia as it is rarely correct on specifics and often makes errors, and the community largely feels human answers are better (see the links at WP:AI and the essay WP:LLM).
Hope you're doing well, and happy editing ~~ Perfect4th (talk) 15:47, 1 September 2025 (UTC)

- (talk page stalker) Hello, Jm4rch906! Help:Pictures explains how to add pictures; I suggest using one of the simplified versions from the box near the top as that will be easier to start with. References are usually marked by
<ref></ref>tags, but there are templates to make it much easier; try the article Wikipedia:Citing sources (or its simpler versions) to get started. As for infoboxes, you can find a list at Wikipedia:List of infoboxes (you might want to Ctrl+F that page because it's long). Each individual infobox template should have a documentation page that explains which parameters are most commonly used, so you should be able to copy & paste and edit from there as desired. Feel free to drop by here or my talk page if you have any more questions, and happy editing! Perfect4th (talk) 04:27, 18 September 2025 (UTC)

- (talk page stalker) Hello Kaymaggs! I'm only seeing one edit from you on the article, but it looks like the reverting editor's reason was that it was a one-time thing rather than the main genre. If you disagree, a good next step is to open a section on the article's talk page to discuss the issue and reach a consensus with other interested editors. On Wikipedia, we often follow a process called BRD (Bold, Revert, Discuss) – someone makes a bold edit, another person reverts it, and then you discuss on the talk page what the best solution is. The article Terry Engesha has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Fails GNG
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
This is an automated notification. Please refer to the page's history for further information. DatBot (talk) 00:33, 3 November 2025 (UTC)

Hello. I just joined because I found a page on my grandfather who played rugby in Scotland. I wanted to add his photo from.my files and tried to upload it to Wikipedia Commons but can't find out if it was successful of deleted?
Thanks --Migilmor (talk) 05:33, 10 November 2025 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Hello, Migilmor! I checked your global contributions and your edit here is the only one I see, and it doesn't look like you have any deleted edits either, so I think it might not have gone through. What did you use to upload the photo? Feel free to drop by here or my talk page if you have any more questions, and happy editing! Perfect4th (talk) 03:08, 11 November 2025 (UTC)
Question from Lui Collins (02:46, 11 November 2025)
[edit]hello, I was just notified that a page in my name had been flagged, that it needs more or better citations. Names of several musicians I've worked with in the past are shown in red. Do you know if those are the problems that are being flagged? I tried adding links to each musician's website, but my changes were reversed. Can you help me resolve this? Thanks much in advance. --Lui Collins (talk) 02:46, 11 November 2025 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Hello, Lui Collins! Nope, names should be linked when a Wikipedia article for the subject exists, but if not we're fine with redlinks – editors can be concerned about spam if external links are added instead. It looks like the issue raised on Lui Collins is rather about citations. It's especially important for Wikipedia to try to get information about living people right, so we try to maintain a good baseline for good quality sources and well-cited information about people. In this case, someone has noted that there aren't many good sources currently cited in that article. Based on your username it looks like you have a conflict of interest, so it would be better not to edit the article directly. However, you might be better positioned than some other editors to find good sources, so feel free to leave those on the article talk page (where editors discuss improvements to articles). See our reliable sources guideline for what to evaluate as helpful sources for Wikipedia articles. Feel free to drop by here or my talk page if you have any more questions, and happy editing, Perfect4th (talk) 03:08, 11 November 2025 (UTC)
