Question from AstronomyKid1 (16:15, 3 June 2025)
[edit]Hello once again, my friend. I am now a recent changes patroller, and I'm pretty good at finding the obvious vandalism, but not so great at find the more sneaky ones. I was wondering what are some key signs of vandalism, but other than that, I'm pretty much good! --AstronomyKid1 (talk) 16:15, 3 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hey @AstronomyKid1, that will come with time! The first thing I would say, is to always double check what the source says when there's a content edit that doesn't make sense to you. If someone adds a sentence that doesn't have a source, google around, and see if you can find a reference that would back that up. Or if the sentence already has a citation, and they change the wording, click the source, and make sure the new edit lines up with the content in the citation. This adds work, but unfortunately the subtle vandalism always takes more work to catch. Do you have any examples of things you're thinking about? Alyo (chat·edits) 13:44, 4 June 2025 (UTC)
Question from Itstartswithanerveblock (04:03, 4 June 2025)
[edit]Hello I was wondering how would one import an image found on the Chinese Language wiki.
to the english page. --Itstartswithanerveblock (talk) 04:03, 4 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Itstartswithanerveblock, I'm not entirely sure what you mean. You've already uploaded File:Shanaxi University of Chinese Medicine logo.jpg, and uploading this image would be the exact same process--save the image to your own computer, and then upload it to English Wikipedia through one of the upload tools. Am I misunderstanding the question? Alyo (chat·edits) 13:47, 4 June 2025 (UTC)
- My question is primarily asking if there was a direct way of importing the file without download and re upload. From your explanation it appears that there is not a native import feature between the different sites so I will do the download method. Thank you, I will use this method to clean up some confusion in East Asian universities which have solid articles in the native language but are lacking in English. Cheers Itstartswithanerveblock (talk) 16:22, 4 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Itstartswithanerveblock That is correct--for copyright reasons, each language version of Wikipedia has its own uploading and hosting procedure. The WP:Wikimedia Commons is where photos are hosted that can be used on all projects, but the photos hosted on Commons have to be free. Logos and the like are not free, so they must be hosted individually on each site. Alyo (chat·edits) 17:02, 4 June 2025 (UTC)
- Fantastic, thank you for the guidance! Itstartswithanerveblock (talk) 17:20, 4 June 2025 (UTC)

Question from John marstond (05:13, 11 June 2025)
[edit]Hello I just joined Wikipedia and I'm wondering what if I edit something to say the truth but then it gets vandalized? --John marstond (talk) 05:13, 11 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @John marstond, what edit are you talking about? It looks like your edits have been helpful, and you haven't been vandalized. Alyo (chat·edits) 15:55, 13 June 2025 (UTC)

Question from Saoirse Don (10:43, 13 June 2025)
[edit]Thanks Aylo. I want to check I'm doing something correctly. I added references and improved the language on a page, and then removed the 'multiple issues' notice in the source code. Is this correct? --Saoirse Don (talk) 10:43, 13 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Saoirse Don, thanks for checking in! To start, the "multiple issues" (and the individual maintenance templates within) is entirely subjective. In some sense, if you feel you've resolved the issues, then yes, you can remove the tags at any point. There's no review process, etc. However, while you are a newer editor and still getting your feet under you, I appreciate you looking for a second opinion just to confirm your understanding of proper writing, style, etc. For Singing Sandra, you added some references: perfect. While you didn't make any changes to the prose, the article has been significantly cleaned up since those templates were added in 2023, so I think the removal of those tags is fine as well. The only other fix I would have made is in the legacy section, where the second sentence is a sentence fragment without a main clause. The easiest thing to do is just merge the two sentences. Alyo (chat·edits) 17:20, 13 June 2025 (UTC)
- One more thing: when you add references, add them after the punctuation. So it should be,
She continued to perform as a solo artist,[1] and at the 1997 carnival she won the 'Best Nation Building Song' award along with a prize for the song 'One Destiny One Heart'.[2]
Alyo (chat·edits) 17:24, 13 June 2025 (UTC)- Now that's a good tip! Thank you Saoirse Don (talk) 17:29, 13 June 2025 (UTC)

Question from WelldoneSally (19:43, 14 June 2025)
[edit]Hello! I am trying to edit a page. Once I've done it, how can I submit it? --WelldoneSally (talk) 19:43, 14 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @WelldoneSally, you're talking about Draft:Sandra Bordigoni, right? Go ahead and add the code

to the top of the page! This submits it to a queue for review, and another editor will come along and review it. Alyo (chat·edits) 13:57, 16 June 2025 (UTC)
Question from Carlos Hernández Cabrera (19:51, 15 June 2025)
[edit]Hello I wanted to make some changes in the Almohad Caliphate wikipedia, I gave 4 different sources one from Cambridge university and they keep reverting my changes. These people seem like they have monopolized this article and have some nationalist biased intentions behind it. Where can I ask for an admin to check it out? Thanks. --Carlos Hernández Cabrera (talk) 19:51, 15 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Carlos Hernández Cabrera, I know nothing about the topic, so I cannot speak to the substance of the dispute. However, I see that three different editors are reverting you. You aren't going to get anywhere by forcing your edit through, and because Wikipedia operates on a "consensus" system, you cannot demand your change be made if multiple editors disagree with you and no one agrees with you. Finally, admins do not have any special power over content. You would need to convince the other editors on the talk page that your edits are correct, but that doesn't appear to be happening. Alyo (chat·edits) 14:03, 16 June 2025 (UTC)
- Yes is what I tried, I tried to talk with them but they just deny my sources without any argument. Thank you anyways. Carlos Hernández Cabrera (talk) 21:22, 17 June 2025 (UTC)

Question from Obliquepixel (13:18, 18 June 2025)
[edit]Hi Alyo!
I'm interested in improving citations on Wikipedia articles - pointing out / fixing dead links, handling "link rot" and "reference rot", finding open access versions of references, etc. With your experience, what do you think a good place to start would be?
Thanks! --Obliquepixel (talk) 13:18, 18 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Obliquepixel, welcome to Wikipedia! This may seem like an simple answer, but start with a topic that you find interesting, or know something about. It will be much easier for you to find sources when you're already familiar with the subject matter, and the kinds of sources writing about that topic. Beyond that, Wikipedia uses maintenance flags and templates that automatically add articles with that issue to a category, and you can basically just jump in.
- So lets say you are looking for articles that, e.g., both have references with bare URLs (at risk for link rot) and are related to European history? Here's how I would find articles like that, and you can tell me if this is helpful or not. I often start at the Wikipedia:Task Center, which lists a series of tasks and then links to random articles that have issues in that task area. So the first task on that page, "Fact-Checking", has a link on the right side allowing you to "Go to a random page in Category:All articles lacking sources". You could start there, or you could also click on the maintenance category, Category:All articles with bare URLs for citations. This takes you to a hidden WP category containing every article that is currently tagged with the {{Cleanup bare URLs}} or {{Bare URL inline}} templates. However, at the top of that category page there is also a yellow box that directs you to articles lacking sources in a certain topic area. If you click "Europe" it takes you to this search result, which you could also recreate by entering
articletopic:europe incategory:"All articles with bare URLs for citations"
into the Wikipedia search bar. This also suggests that you can do the same for other "articletopic" fields, although I don't know where that list is off the top of my head. The other category you might look at is Category:Articles with dead external links. Let me know if this makes sense/helps/isn't what you are looking for. Alyo (chat·edits) 16:33, 18 June 2025 (UTC)
Hello Aylo! I made an account mainly to make an article about a producer I've recently found called Jérémie Périn, but after researching a bit further I'm no longer sure if he's notable enough. While he's linked in wikipedia articles of works he's directed/worked with (ex. Mars Express 2023), he only has three articles that I can find otherwise (sources being: IMDb, AnimationIsFilm, IFFR) and a few interwiews on youtube. Is this notable enough to make an article about? Thank you in advance! --Taurusami (talk) 14:59, 19 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Taurusami, I would agree with you that by themselves, those sources don’t seem to be enough. However, have you looked at french language sources? Given where he works, I feel like it’s possible that notability could be achieved through non-English sources. By virtue of directing an award winning film he’s close to meeting WP:DIRECTOR. Alyo (chat·edits) 17:46, 19 June 2025 (UTC)
- Oh, yes! I hadn't even thought about that, thank you! And there's even a French Wikipedia article already about him (with also a lot more sources as you suggested!). Would it be possible for me to translate the article to English or is that kind of weird with the policy/copyright here? Taurusami (talk) 18:06, 19 June 2025 (UTC)
- You absolutely can. The policy for translating other articles into English is here: WP:Translation. One critical step is here: Help:Translation#Licensing. You usually have to add a statement to the edit summary of your edit explaining where the translation came from. Let me know if you have any questions. Alyo (chat·edits) 18:08, 19 June 2025 (UTC)
- So if I make the article for him by translating it, I have to for example link the Wikipedia article with a statement like "translatd from xy" into the reason for edit box and it's fine? Or do you mean directly as a note in the article citing the original? (Sorry for so insistantly asking, but I sometimes have difficulties understanding longer English sentences) Taurusami (talk) 18:15, 19 June 2025 (UTC)
- The first thing, yes! Here's the line to add:
Content in this edit is translated from the existing French Wikipedia article at [[:fr:Jérémie Périn]]; see its history for attribution.
Include that in the edit summary box when you make the article. Not directly in the article. Later there's another note you can add to the talk page, but that's a later issue. Alyo (chat·edits) 20:44, 19 June 2025 (UTC)- Thank you so much for explaining it to me, it means a lot! Taurusami (talk) 20:55, 19 June 2025 (UTC)

[edit]Hello Lance, how can I publish a biography please? --The Reframe (talk) 10:23, 21 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @The Reframe, who is the biography about? Alyo (chat·edits) 15:00, 21 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hello ALYO, the biography is about Lanre Shasore, a Nigerian public figure The Reframe (talk) 18:19, 21 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @The Reframe, Wikipedia requires all biographies to be sourced to multiple independent, reliable citations discussing the person in significant detail. If those sources aren't provided, the article is likely to be deleted. Can you link to the best three sources you have about Shasore? Alyo (chat·edits) 23:50, 21 June 2025 (UTC)

Question from Rootmen213 on Algerian Air Force (20:37, 23 June 2025)
[edit]hi i am trying to edit somthing and i cant figure out how ro add a source to the text that i am adding, please help --Rootmen213 (talk) 20:37, 23 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Rootmen213, what are you trying to add? Alyo (chat·edits) 20:38, 23 June 2025 (UTC)
- i am trying to add an aircraft, i want to link the source that says they ordered it Rootmen213 (talk) 20:41, 23 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Rootmen213 so the simplest thing to do is put your reference information inside "ref" tags, like this:
<ref>[REFERENCE CONTENT HERE]</ref>
Place that code at the end of the sentence you want to attach the citation to, and the reference will show exactly what you've typed in. At a very basic level, that's all your need. Now, the second step is that we have templates for citations, like {{cite web}}, which do all the fancy formatting for you. If you copy the template, and fill in the various parameters, you'll get a full citation automatically. So the full (blank) code would be this:<ref>{{cite web |last= |first= |date= |title= |url= |website= |location= |publisher= |access-date=}}</ref>
Just fill that in with the information you have (or use {{cite book}} or {{cite magazine}} if appropriate) and you're good to go. Let me know what follow-up questions you have. Alyo (chat·edits) 02:35, 24 June 2025 (UTC)

Question from Ghada Hijjawi (21:05, 25 June 2025)
[edit]Hi Alyo! Thank you for volunteering to be my mentor. I wish to create a page for my village in Palestine, but I wish to write about the history of people. What kind of guidelines can I follow and avoid? Thank you and I look forward to a prosperous relationship! Ghada --Ghada Hijjawi (talk) 21:05, 25 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Ghada Hijjawi, the key rule is to make sure that what you write about is backed up be reliable sources. In other words, unfortunately you can't just write down stories you've heard from people who live there--it needs to be a history covered in books or newspapers. Does the village already have a Wikipedia article? Alyo (chat·edits) 14:38, 1 July 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply. Yes it does have an article but it is not about people - it is called Hajja. I think I will have to postpone this until I've had a chance to go myself. It is a Palestinian village and I needed to preserve some of its history. Ghada Hijjawi (talk) 17:01, 1 July 2025 (UTC)

Hi --Midihoops (talk) 21:13, 25 June 2025 (UTC)
Please, just leave my RuneScape edits alone
[edit]That's all I want to say. Colonel Knight Rider (talk) 03:33, 29 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Colonel Knight Rider I'm sorry, but I'm not going to let your edits sit there if they violate policy or other discussions on the page. You need to understand that our audience is not the same audience as rs.wiki. We do not go into the same level of detail, we don't need to include as much information, we don't treat everything in-universe as inherently important, and we need to make sure that content is well-sourced. Also, don't capitalize in-game terms unless reliable sources also capitalize them--and that isn't true for skills or terms like "the combat triangle". Alyo (chat·edits) 01:15, 2 July 2025 (UTC)
- "Also, don't capitalize in-game terms unless reliable sources also capitalize them--and that isn't true for skills..." Yes, it is. People like you are always up in everybody's business, demanding that sources from reliable Websites be cited, but do you bother to read them?
- https://web.archive.org/web/20110715213645/http://www.runescape.com/kbase/guid/controls_statistics#experience "In this image, the mouse pointer is over the Runecrafting skill."
- https://web.archive.org/web/20110729081956/http://www.runescape.com/kbase/guid/fighting_the_basics "Your own combat level is calculated from your statistics, using either melee (Attack and Strength), Magic or Ranged, along with Defence, Constitution, Prayer and Summoning."
- https://web.archive.org/web/20110715213851/http://www.runescape.com/kbase/guid/sym_summoning_the_basics#familiars_and_combat "You must have completed the Wolf Whistle quest to begin using the Summoning skill."
- https://www.eurogamer.net/runescapes-new-necromancy-skill-reinvents-combat-once-again-22-years-on "Necromancy is the 29th skill to be released into RuneScape 3, and arrives three years after the last, Archaeology."
- So, either we can keep squabbling over nomenclature, or we can compromise. I hope you choose the latter because I'm not walking away from this matter with only you benefitting. For instance, although whether melee is initial capped or not varies from source to source, and sometimes from sentence to sentence, I am willing to let it not be initial-capped, as it is not a skill but a combination of three skills, according to the Melee Basics source: https://web.archive.org/web/20110720193422/http://www.runescape.com/kbase/guid/melee_the_basics.
- Colonel Knight Rider(talk) 12:40, 2 July 2025 (UTC), Reading your sources so you don't have to.
- @Colonel Knight Rider first, please stop editing like this. 25+ edits over nearly an hour just to produce one reply is incredibly disruptive on higher traffic talk pages. Use the WP:preview function, or else plan your response out before you start typing.
- Second, I repeat that articles about videos games are not places to include every detail, or every bit of in-world color about the universe. For the purpose of this conversation, that means that it doesn't really matter what runescape.com says or does. One of the main issues with the RS article--and the reason it repeatedly failed becoming a Good Article--is because so much of the article relies on primary sources like the Knowledge Base instead of news sources like those listed on WP:VG/S. The first three links you provided here are not independent, reliable sources, so it is irrelevant how they do or do not capitalize the names of the skills. The guiding rule here is MOS:VGSTYLE, with a citation to MOS:CAPS in footnote G: "only words and phrases that are consistently capitalized in a substantial majority of independent, reliable sources are capitalized in Wikipedia." I've been looking around, and the trend in recent years has been to capitalize skills, so I'm totally fine with that--your fourth link is indeed helpful in that regard. So thank you--it's not a "compromise", it's following the rules of this site.
- Finally, I suggest you chill out with the "people like you" and "I'm not walking away" comments. I've been working on this page since long before you got here, and the stable version of the page has, for years, not capitalized the names of skills: at the time the sources didn't either. I'm not just reverting your edits for the sake of it, I'm actively trying to improve the article. I'm happy to work with you--you're clearly passionate about the page--but if you want to be a productive editor I suggest you (a) learn the rules of the site and (b) be open to the idea that others around you are not just "up in everybody's business" when they disagree with you. Alyo (chat·edits) 19:58, 3 July 2025 (UTC)
- 1. Forgive me. I like to refine my edits after the fact. I mean you no harm in this regard. I'm simply an impulsive person.
- 2. Those links were already there in the article in the first place. I did not add them. But... thank you for allowing my changes to stay. Other than that, my intention was not to include every detail about a video game in the article, but simply to give enough information to know what prospective players might be getting into, as well as update some information that hasn't been updated since the early 2010s, such as the fact that RuneTek 5 has been replaced with RuneTek 7 as of 2013 (why no one made the change sooner is a mystery to me).
- 3. I am open to the idea that you're not just up in my business for no good reason. Sometimes, I wish it were easier to find the "independent, reliable sources" you demand when there are so few. I hope you can understand my frustration and how it caused me to sound as angry as I did. Colonel Knight Rider (talk) 04:53, 7 July 2025 (UTC)
- 1. Understood. Just so you know, on editor talk pages, the editor whose page you're on gets a new notification for every single edit you make, which can be annoying. And then in general, on talk pages with more action, those edits will cause other editors to have wp:edit conflicts as you and they save the page at the same time.
- 2. Sure, I gotcha. The article can certainly do with a facelift. As the game's popularity slowed, the edits to the page did as well (check out this graph if you want to see it visually). It used to be that @1ForTheMoney and I basically operated as the reviewers for all of the content that IPs and new users would add, but there's clearly less need for that. That partially explains why my instinct is to preserve the status quo whenever it looks like an edit tries to increase the in-world accuracy of the page (i.e., stuff that should be in the RS wiki). So I apologize for that--I should have done more work to double check your edits re:sourcing capitalization.
- 3. I actually think there's a lot more than I've realized! A list of sources that are good for video games is here: WP:VG/S. And when I checked out some of these sites, there were a bunch of articles that we haven't added into the article. If you want to jump in on a project, we really should try to replace all of the Knowledge Base links with proper sources, and I actually think that's much easier now than it was in ~2010. Alyo (chat·edits) 13:55, 7 July 2025 (UTC)
- "Also, don't capitalize in-game terms unless reliable sources also capitalize them--and that isn't true for skills..." Yes, it is. People like you are always up in everybody's business, demanding that sources from reliable Websites be cited, but do you bother to read them?

- Hi @Cellbycell, the Hindustan Times article is the only one of those that I believe would be considered reliable by other editors. In general, the tone of these pieces is extremely promotional, and there is very little to say about Awasthi without it being a puff piece. I do not recommend that you continue to try to submit this--I don't think it will be accepted. Alyo (chat·edits) 00:13, 7 July 2025 (UTC)

Question from Andrew5130 (13:46, 30 June 2025)
[edit]Hi Alyo I have made some amendemtnts to broken links on peoples pages in wikipedia, I have made citation changes of dead links and replaced with totally y relevant new sources Can you tell me if all is ok with my process? Thanks, arthur --Andrew5130 (talk) 13:47, 30 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Andrew5130, thanks for the question. I'm looking at edits like this and this. Updating the links is great, and thank you for doing that. But what you need to do is put the reference in the text and replace the other reference. Otherwise you're adding a citation at the end of the page where no one will see it. Does that make sense? Usually you don't add the reference to the "Reference" section--that section just holds a template that automatically shows the citations that are placed in the body of the article. Alyo (chat·edits) 17:47, 1 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Alyo, can you explain what you mean by "put the refence in the text and replace the other refence"
- thaks, Arthur Andrew5130 (talk) 10:54, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Andrew5130, sure! So the content between the
<ref>
tags is the reference right? And a completed reference looks something like this:<ref>[REFERENCE CONTENT HERE]</ref>
- For example, in this edit you added this code to the page:
<ref>{{Cite book |last=Soutor |first=Carol A. |title=Clinical Dermatology |date=29th April 2022 |publisher=McGraw Hill / Medical |year=29th April, 2022 |isbn=ISBN-13 : 978-1264257379 |edition=Edition : 2nd |publication-date=29th April, 2022 |language=English}}</ref>
- What you need to do is paste that reference at the end of the sentence that the citation is for. In the edit where you added the Soutor book, the book was being used as a citation at the end of the sentence "Atopic diathesis is a predisposition to develop one or more of hay fever, allergic rhinitis, bronchial asthma, or atopic dermatitis." Instead of adding the reference into the References section at the end of the page, add the reference to the end of the section or sentence that it is a citation for. You can see me do that in this edit on that page. Alyo (chat·edits) 14:40, 25 July 2025 (UTC)

- The CampaignEvents extension has been enabled on all Wikipedias. The extension makes it easier to organize and participate in collaborative activities, like edit-a-thons and WikiProjects, on the wikis. The extension has three features: Event Registration, Collaboration List, and Invitation List. To request the extension for your wiki, visit the Deployment information page.
Updates for editors
- AbuseFilter maintainers can now match against IP reputation data in AbuseFilters. IP reputation data is information about the proxies and VPNs associated with the user's IP address. This data is not shown publicly and is not generated for actions performed by registered accounts. [1]
- Hidden content that is within collapsible parts of wikipages will now be revealed when someone searches the page using the web browser's "Find in page" function (Ctrl+F or ⌘F) in supporting browsers. [2][3]
A new feature, called Favourite Templates, will be deployed later this week on all projects (except English Wikipedia, which will receive the feature next week), following a piloting phase on Polish and Arabic Wikipedia, and Italian and English Wikisource. The feature will provide a better way for new and experienced contributors to recall and discover templates via the template dialog, by allowing users to put templates on a special "favourite list". The feature works with both the visual editor and the wikitext editor. The feature is a community wishlist focus area.

[edit]Is https://www.britannica.com/ considered a valid source here? --S2cndchance (talk) 15:57, 2 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @S2cndchance, it's a bit complicated. There have been many discussions about the use of Encyclopædia Britannica and you can read a summary of those here: WP:BRITANNICA. In short, try to use other sources, but the EB articles written by experts and reviewed by editors may be ok. Alyo (chat·edits) 21:29, 6 July 2025 (UTC)
Hello Alyo, After getting a bit familiar with editing articles I wrote my first article on the Scottish radiologist, author and archaeologist Dr John Henderson Reid. Unfortunately, it was declined. The reason given at the top of the page says that the "article is not adequately supported by reliable sources", however the Comment that the reviewer who declined my article left only mentions that all inline links should be removed, and turned into references if appropriate, Wikilinks, or external links in a section so named. It doesn't mention lack of reliable sources. I have made the changes requested: taking out all the inline links and making them into references or links in the External Links section. My question is if I would be ok to resubmit for review after doing this. Thank you so much for your time and consideration. --Zarasyn (talk) 20:52, 3 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Zarasyn, yes, it's absolutely fine to resubmit! It's very normal for submissions to get submitted multiple times while editors sort out the issues. And good work resolving the issue that the reviewer flagged. Alyo (chat·edits) 17:24, 8 July 2025 (UTC)

- Temporary accounts have been rolled out on 18 large and medium-sized Wikipedias, including German, Japanese, French, and Chinese. Now, about 1/3 of all logged-out activity across wikis is coming from temporary accounts. Users involved in patrolling may be interested in two new documentation pages: Access to IP, explaining everything related to access to temporary account IP addresses, and Repository with a list of new gadgets and user scripts.
Updates for editors
- Anyone can play an experimental new game, WikiRun, that lets you race through Wikipedia by clicking from one article to another, aiming to reach a target page in as few steps and in as little time as possible. The project's goal is to explore new ways of engaging readers. Try playing the game and let the team know what you think on the talk page.
- Users of the Wikipedia Android app in some languages can now play the new trivia game. Which came first? is a simple history game where you guess which of two events happened earlier on today's date. It was previously available as an A/B test. It is now available to all users in English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, Turkish, and Chinese. The goal of the feature is to help engage with new generations of readers. [5]
- Users of the iOS Wikipedia App in some languages may see a new tabbed browsing feature that enables you to open multiple tabs while reading. This feature makes it easier to explore related topics and switch between articles. The A/B test is currently running in Arabic, English, and Japanese in selected regions. More details are available on the Tabbed Browsing project page.
- Bureaucrats on Wikimedia wikis can now use Special:VerifyOATHForUser to check if users have enabled two-factor authentication. [6]
A new feature related to Template Recall and Discovery will be deployed later this week to all Wikimedia projects: a template category browser will be introduced to assist users in finding templates to put in their “favourite” list. The browser will allow users to browse a list of templates which have been organised into a given category tree. The feature has been requested by the community through the Community Wishlist.
- It is now possible to access watchlist preferences from the watchlist page. Also the redundant button to edit the watchlist has been removed. [7]

The company intends to drop lore about its products and digital work --TAG-WØLF2310 (talk) 16:49, 8 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @TAG-WØLF2310, that's probably not a good idea. Wikipedia is not a business directory, or a place for companies to promote themselves. Companies are generally considered "notable" enough for Wikipedia when multiple news sources have written about the business. Is that true for this company? Alyo (chat·edits) 17:03, 8 July 2025 (UTC)

Question from Fractal-Dreamz (04:40, 10 July 2025)
[edit]Hi! I was browsing some pages for practicing copyedits, and have a question about formatting.
I edit on mobile, and though I hope to someday understand wikitext, I'm stuck on visual editor. As far as I can see, I can only change one section (is there a more formal name for that?) per edit. Ex, I can only alter "History", and not "Awards" in a single edit. My question is, is there a way to not stretch that across several edits? I know it's frowned upon to create an account, and instantly start jacking up your edit.
Sorry for being long-winded tbh with how much i wrote and rewrote this message you'd think it'd be more compact, and thank you so much! Fractal-Dreamz (talk) 04:40, 10 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Fractal-Dreamz, great question! Yes, those are sections, and the general rule is that if you click the edit button on a section, that's the only section you can edit. However, there's also a button to edit the entire page, usually located at the top of the page. I'm not exactly sure how the visual editor looks on mobile, but is there an edit button at the top? Something that will make the entire page editable at once? I'm able to do this on desktop, so hopefully it works for mobile as well.
- Second, I wouldn't worry at all about jacking up your edit count. If you are making helpful edits, no one is going to notice your edit count at all, I promise. (Now, if you're like...adding and removing a single space from an article over and over to get the edit count up that might be a problem. But that's pretty clearly not what you're doing so far.) New Article - Hoping you will take a look
[edit]Alyo - I just realized that you have offered to mentor me. A little background. I am one of the leading and senior Professional Health Care Chaplains in the country. I have been involved in the field the last 30 years. I have been involved in multiple of the organizations, help numerous positions, published extensively.
One of the reasons I became an editor is that there is nothing really extensive about health care chaplaincy. We have numerous organizations. Professional chaplains work in almost every hospital and long term care facility in the country. We have a long and professional process for learning chaplaincy/pastoral care skills and then a certification process to demonstrate a high professional level of work.
I have started creating a new article on Professional Chaplaincy in the US and Canada. Here is a link to the draft.
Draft:United States and Canada professional chaplaincy organizations
When I first posted it, I knew that I had to make extensive changes once I received feedback. I received initial feedback and now have researched what was missing, research what is verified and neutral, and much more.
I am hoping that you will take a look at the draft article and let me know what else, if anything, needs to be done for the article to be released.
There are a number of additional topics that need to be created in the same field such as: Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) - what is it, why is offered and to whom, who must take it, what is the process, etc. As I draft them, knowing much more now that when I first started, would you be willing to look over the articles?
Finally, many of the foundational leaders in the field are not yet part of WikiPedia. What is the process for me to start to add them?
Again, thank you. StephRab18 (talk) 20:12, 18 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @StephRab18, apologies for the delay in response. This may be a bit of a long response, but you've asked a question with a lot of layers, so bear with me.
- In order for topics to be considered "notable" enough for Wikipedia, they generally must be covered by multiple independent, reliable sources that discuss the topic in significant detail. We call this the general notability guideline. For an article called United States and Canada professional chaplaincy organizations, this means that you want coverage of this type of organization, or the field as a whole--that's the scope of the article title. Coverage of individual organizations, by comparison, will not help you achieve this notability threshold. They may be relevant to the topic as examples, but they will not necessarily convince a reviewer that the article about the field of chaplaincy orgs as a whole should be accepted.
- So my first question is about the scope of the article. With the background of what I've just said, what is the proper scope of this article? Is there enough sourcing about specifically about the field chaplaincy organizations in North America to support this article? Remember, not just sources about individual organizations, but about this type of organization? What is so different about chaplaincy organizations in NA such that they need their own article, instead of maybe a short added section in Chaplain or a related article?
- I did a quick skim of the sources that I could access, and these three pieces seemed to come the closest to discussing the topic "chaplaincy organizations in NA" in depth. The rest generally appeared to cover either chaplaincy certifications for individuals--something that could easily fit in the chaplaincy page--or else individual organizations--which should be judged on their own merit. And with just those three sources, the core of the article would be pretty short. I did not come away from that convinced that "chaplaincy organizations in NA" was a topic that would meet our guidelines based on the sources currently in the article. You might come back and tell me that there are plenty of sources on this topic now that you know what you're looking for, but I just want to tell you what I see so far.
- The next issue to discuss is the use of the chaplaincy organizations' websites as sources about themselves. Those websites are not "independent" or "third-party", and so they carry less weight than say, a peer-reviewed journal or news profile would. If the content currently in your draft were in an article, someone would be justified in removing much of it as "overly promotional" because it is essentially repeating what the websites say about themselves. I realize that chaplaincy is a much more morally beneficial movement than say, a teenager's new punk band, but it still must meet the same rules about self-promotion.
- Now, all of the above applies in the same way to individuals. I imagine you may have an easier time with this part, as there are probably more biographies and profiles of individuals, instead of categories of organization. I'm happy to look at any other drafts, but I always tell new editors the same thing: if you want to save time, link me to the three strongest articles/sources/citations on a given topic, and I'll tell you whether it's likely to pass the very first, most important step: that notability threshold above. [edit]Hello I am a first time indie author and I was wondering how I can get a page for my book The Witches of Galveston --MrMcClure77 (talk) 06:44, 22 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @MrMcClure77, In order for topics to be considered "notable" enough for Wikipedia, they generally must be covered by multiple independent, reliable sources that discuss the topic in significant detail. We call this the general notability guideline. For your question, this likely means that the book is notable enough once it has received multiple reviews by reliable sources. [edit]How do I create a citation. --Wittykitty99 (talk) 07:59, 23 July 2025 (UTC)

and place at the end of the sentence. So a completed reference looks something like this:<ref>[REFERENCE CONTENT HERE]</ref>
. If you are using the visual editor, then this page has a helpful tutorial for adding citations. Alyo (chat·edits) 15:06, 25 July 2025 (UTC)

[edit]Hello! Thank you for volunteering to be a Wikipedia mentor. That's very kind of you.
I'm pretty good at writing and research, but inexperienced in writing in an encyclopedic voice. I have 150 edits at this point, which are all minor things like fixing typos, changing "is" to "was", or removing confusing language.
I think my next step is identifying articles that need improvement that I feel motivated to improve.
Feel free to give me any general advice you might have. --YarrowFlower (talk) 12:46, 25 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @YarrowFlower, great question, and glad to see you're off and running as an editor! There are a ton of ways to contribute, but I really feel strongly that it should start with your interests. When I first joined WP, I was interested in college football and video games, and so the vast majority of my edits fell into those subject areas while I learned the ropes. A benefit here--apart from just making editing more fun--is that if you're the kind of person who has been reading or following your interests for a long time, you probably have a good sense of what the sourcing looks like for that subject area. My current editing process somewhat matches how you described yours on your talk page. I just use WP a lot, and am constantly coming across articles that have issues. In particular, I always just to spare time to add or improve sources to existing articles. At this point in WP's lifecycle, that appears to me to be one of the most crucial tasks.
- Now, if you want to dive into a type of task, then I would start with the WP:Task Center. This has different types of WP work separated by task and difficulty, and you can look at what matches your skills and interests. Some of these maintenance backlogs have tens of thousands of articles, so there's plenty to do! Let me know if you have any questions about any of the tasks on that page. Alyo (chat·edits) 15:27, 25 July 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you very much! I will take your advice. I think the thing that would motivate me most right now is just finding an article on a topic I'm interested that needs cleaning up and doing improvements. I'm more confident improving the writing than improving the sourcing, but maybe I could learn how to improve sourcing. YarrowFlower (talk) 00:58, 31 July 2025 (UTC)
- @YarrowFlower Completely understandable. I think you'll find, especially if you stick around, that the two often go hand-in-hand. There are still tons of articles with typos and basic grammar errors of course. But many of the articles that need improvements to their writing need those improvements in order to better align the text to what the sources say, if that makes sense. However, if you want to start with articles that have been tagged as needing copyediting, you may want to look at the WP:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors, which works on articles in this maintenance category. - FahFinlay's mentor Sakura emad is away.
Hi Alyo,
I just tried publishing a Wikipedia page, but the article lacked secondary sources so it was denied. If the person I'm writing about has few secondary sources I can use, especially for statistics, is there another way to go about making this page viable for Wikipedia standards?
Thanks, Fah --FahFinlay (talk) 15:59, 25 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @FahFinlay, unfortunately no. In order to ensure that Wikipedia is not flooded with promotion content about businesses, bands, and people, we require all topics to be sourced by multiple independent, reliable sources. Wikipedia is not a business directly, phone book, or place to promote individuals, so this rule is pretty hard and fast. Alyo (chat·edits) 16:25, 25 July 2025 (UTC)

[edit]My Draft about pakistani actor Nameer Khan is not getting submitted --ItsSmartMe (talk) 12:32, 29 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @ItsSmartMe, your draft Draft:Nameer Khan was indeed submitted. However, the reviewers have not accepted it because they do not believe he qualifies for a Wikipedia article. Specifically, they are saying that there aren't enough sources covering him that are reliable and independent. By the way, Pakistani-language sources can be used. Are there more discussions of Khan in Pakistani newspapers? Alyo (chat·edits) 23:08, 7 August 2025 (UTC)
- Can you help me find errors or guide me through with certain examples from the draft?? ItsSmartMe (talk) 05:53, 8 August 2025 (UTC)
- @ItsSmartMe sure. This is a blog, which we can't use, and this link doesn't work. I think Grazia and H mag are probably decent, but they are interviews, which carry a little less weight. These two links are actually the exact same. I think Samaa probably wrote the piece and then Dailytimes reposted it? But either way this only counts as one link. Question from LullabyHead (22:40, 29 July 2025)
[edit]Hello! I've created a draft of a biographical page. I've added a list of citations (which still need more work). I'd like some feedback on the contruction of the article and also pointers to how to create the sidebar information that has basic biographical information (born, occupation, instruments, years active, etc). Any suggestions are appreciated. --LullabyHead (talk) 22:40, 29 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @LullabyHead, you have a good start with User:LullabyHead/sandbox. I have a few tips.
- First, you want to make sure that the sources back up what you're using them as references for. As a random example, you have a sentence that says
His composition, Two Dances, was read by the resident Pittsburgh Symphony...
with a footnote to this article, but unless the article is cut off it says nothing about Two Dances. - Second, you want your content and sources to be about deLise, not other topics. E.g., the parenthetical and references about Eddie Bruce can be completely removed, and if a reader wants to know about Bruce they can click his article. (But note that the actual statement about deLise and Bruce's collaboration has no citation!) Anytime that you're adding more than a few word to explain a connected topic, person, album, etc, that can be removed. So most of the additional info about "2 Steps Away", "J'Ouvert", etc.
- Wikipedia article cannot be used as citations. You can link to them, like you did for Eddie Bruce, but you should change the reference that links to The A's (and others) into wikilinks, just like I've done here.
- First, you want to make sure that the sources back up what you're using them as references for. As a random example, you have a sentence that says
- That would be my start. I think deLise may be notable enough for Wikipedia, but there may need to be 1-2 more high quality sources about him--not a song that he worked on, or a famous person he worked with--added to the draft. Alyo (chat·edits) 19:36, 8 August 2025 (UTC)
- This is great guidance. Especially the distinction between citations and links. Thank you for the feedback. LullabyHead (talk) 00:26, 9 August 2025 (UTC)
- Glad to help. Let me know if you'd like me to check the draft again later. Alyo (chat·edits) 04:08, 9 August 2025 (UTC)

Hello! I have an etiquette question: Is making several small edits in a row annoying to other editors? I often think of new things to change after saving a set of edits, but I'm not sure if by doing that I'm blowing up everyone else's notifications. If so, do you have any advice about how to avoid this kind of workflow issue? --Cab-wit (talk) 00:03, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Cab-wit, great question. It's not a huge deal, especially on articles, but it's always a good idea to use the WP:preview function to see what your edits will look like when you publish the page and catch additional nits before you save. It's also helpful to use edit summaries to explain your edits, so that other editors can get a sense of what you did without actually opening up the edit history. With those two notes, it's really not a big deal to make multiple edits in a row unless you're, like, editing one word at a time in a sentence. Apart from that, if you're editing different sections (like you were here) and find it easier to save your edits each time, that's never an issue. If you know that you'll be working on an article for a long stretch of time and really want to be safe, you can use the {{in use}} or {{Under construction}} templates and remove them when you're done.
- Now, where a lot of small edits is a problem is on talk pages, and other places where editors may be responding to you. If you're on an active talk page and save a comment, and then go back and edit your comment three times in quick succession, you may block other editors from saving their own responses--we call that an WP:edit conflict. Definitely use the preview function on talk pages and try to minimize successive edits on highly active talk pages, although hopefully you're not needing to edit those kinds of pages for a long time anyway. Alyo (chat·edits) 18:28, 8 August 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for the response! I'll keep your advice in mind, and it's reassuring to hear I haven't been committing faux pas all over the place. Happy editing!

Question from The Yill on Scott Marlowe (01:14, 3 August 2025)
[edit]Hi Mentor,
I opened a new account after closing the Thoy hoy account after throwing a hissy fit about IMDB as a reference. I would like to restore most of what I deleted, particularly the Television listings I worked so hard on. I tried to cut and paste, but it includes references and other stuff in the last entry of Murder She Wrote. (I will be removing the references to IMDB.) So, I figured out how to delete the IMDB references. And I was able to restore all the text I wanted. I guess I don’t need any assistance now…unless you have any suggestions? — Preceding unsigned comment added by The Yill (talk • contribs) 20:09, 3 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @The Yill, sorry for the late reply, I've been on vacation for the last week. I believe your questions were about Scott Marlowe right? Yup, you figured it out! You remove references by removing the <ref> tags and the content in them from the body of the article. Now, I do have some notes about some of the other sources you used, although I haven't gone back through the article's history and other discussions to see what the backstory is with you and IMDB. However, as a general rule, try not to use Youtube as a source. Very often people who upload youtube videos don't own the copyright, so linking to something like this is actually a copyright violation. Plus those videos tend to go down often, etc, so they make for bad sources. You can see WP:YOUTUBE and WP:RSPYT for our policies about that. If a video is uploaded by someone official it's a little better, but often not needed. At minimum though, they do need to actually verify the statements those sources are attached to. So for example, you linked to this episode on Tubi for the statement
In 1962, he guest-starred on Stoney Burke in "Point of Honor" as a troubled, would-be bull rider.
But I see nothing on that page or in the credits that mentions Marlowe, so even though I'm sure you're right, that source doesn't really help the reader (or other editors). This may be a better question for you to direct to the people who often work on tv show articles, but is there a different kind of source you can use for this? Alyo (chat·edits) 21:33, 8 August 2025 (UTC)- Thank you for the response! Regarding “So for example, you linked to this episode on Tubi for the statement In 1962, he guest-starred on Stoney Burke in "Point of Honor" as a troubled, would-be bull rider. But I see nothing on that page or in the credits that mentions Marlowe…” - I watched the episode and based my summary of the character on the viewing. And the credits list Marlowe as a guest star. I thought providing that citation - where the reader can access the video and verify the info - would be appropriate. So, it’s wrong to use video and audio files on the internet as citations? Only “written” information? I have several of these “viewed” citations for Marlowe, so I guess I should delete them? The Yill (talk) 20:10, 10 August 2025 (UTC)
- I didn't see Marlowe in the credits, but I certainly could have missed that. Assuming that's true, I would imagine that is ok? I'm actually not exactly sure what the right answer here is, especially if someone isn't in the credits. I know that for television episodes, the episode itself is considered the "source" for the plot, for example. There is no citation in the plot section of this Spongebob episode because it's assumed that someone who wants to verify the WP summary could just go watch the episode: Help_Wanted_(SpongeBob_SquarePants)#Plot. However, I don't know if this same rule applies to an actor making an appearance in an episode. You might want to ask the people over at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Television or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Actors and Filmmakers?
- For the second question, it isn't wrong to use video and audio files as citations--you just need to be aware of where they come from. So Tubi presumably (1) gets the proper license to upload things and (2) confirms information about the episode before uploading. Thus I have more faith that a Tubi/Official Youtube Channel is accurate and reliable. However, if "1950sWesternFan" on Youtube uploads a bunch of episodes, I have much less trust in them to have the rights to the episode, or any editorial oversight. Does that make sense? Tech News: 2025-32
[edit]Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Updates for editors
- Editors can now enable the User Info card. This feature adds an icon next to usernames on history pages and similar user-contribution log pages. When you tap or click on the icon, it displays data related to that user account such as the number of edits, reverted edits, blocks, and more. It's part of a broader project to make it easier for moderators to evaluate account trustworthiness. The feature can be enabled in your global preferences, and later this week it will be available in local preferences. [11]
- Everybody is invited to share comments on Collaborative Contributions, a project recently launched by the Connection team. The project aims to create a new way to display the impact of collaborative editing activities (such as edit-a-thons, backlog drives, and WikiProjects) on the wikis. Post your comments on the project talk page. [12]
- Administrators can now define the default block duration for temporary accounts. To do that, they need to create a page named
MediaWiki:Ipb-default-expiry-temporary-account
and use a value defined inMediaWiki:Ipboptions
. This allows administrators to easily block temporary accounts for 90 days, which is functionally equivalent to an indefinite block. The advantage of this solution is that it does not clutter Special:BlockList. More documentation is available. [13] View all 27 community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week.
Updates for technical contributors
- Gadgets can now include
.vue
files. This makes it easier to develop modern user interfaces using Vue.js, in particular using Codex, the official design system of Wikimedia. Codex icons can be loaded through the gadget definition. The documentation has examples. For user scripts that use Vue.js, an API module now exists to load Codex icons. [14][15] - Module developers can now use a Lua interface to simplify the preparation of Lua modules for translation on Meta-Wiki. This improvement makes it easier for translators to find and edit module strings without dealing with raw Lua code. It helps prevent mistakes that could break the module during translation. Module developers and translators are invited to watch the demo video, read more about translatable modules to understand how it works, refer to Meta-Wiki's Module:User Wikimedia project for example usage, and share their feedback on how well it addresses the challenges in their workflow. The interface still has some performance issues, so it should not be used in widely used modules yet. [16]
- Developers of external tools that connect to Wikimedia pages must set a user-agent that complies with the user-agent policy. This policy will start to be more strongly enforced in August because of external crawlers that are overusing Wikimedia's resources. Tools that are hosted on Wikimedia's Toolforge or Cloud VPS will not be affected by this for now, but should still set a user-agent. More technical details are available, and related questions are welcome in that task.
- Parsoid Read Views is going to be rolling out to some smaller Wikipedias over the next few weeks, following the successful transition of Wikivoyages and Wiktionaries to Parsoid Read Views. For more information, see the Parsoid/Parser Unification project page. [17]
Detailed code updates later this week: MediaWiki
Meetings and events
- Wikimania 2025 will run from August 6–9. The program is available for you to plan which sessions you want to attend. Most sessions will be live-streamed, with exceptions for those that show the "no camera" icon. Question from Uncountableinfinity (23:45, 8 August 2025)
[edit]Hi Alyo! Thanks for the connection. It's a pleasure to e-meet you.
I was wondering if you wouldn't mind reviewing my first major edit if you have time. I'm a bit nervous and would appreciate any feedback on areas I might have missed or handled incorrectly.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Energy_Market_Operator
I updated the article with recent 2024-2025 developments, improved sourcing by replacing unsourced content with properly cited material, and restructured the history section for better organisation. I believe all additions use reliable sources including government documents and established media outlets.
Thanks for any guidance you can provide! --Uncountableinfinity (talk) 23:45, 8 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Uncountableinfinity, welcome to Wikipedia! You can see a bit of trim I did here, but generally your edit was good. I would say that in a few places, the tone of the article came off as a little too praising of AEMO, and we try to keep our language a little more neutral here. So e.g., when a sentence like
As Australia's independent system and market operator and system planner, AEMO's purpose is to ensure secure, reliable, and affordable energy and enable the energy transition in the long-term interests of consumers
can come directly from the organization's PR team, it probably shouldn't be in the article. I also cut most of the acronyms from the article, as they weren't used again later in the article--but feel free to undo that if it would aide the reader/if those organizations are known significantly more by their acronyms than by their full names. My final comment is to double check my rewrite of the lead sentence. As much as possible, we want the first sentence to be as simple as concise a definition as possible. "X is Y". Or "X is a Y, known for Z". I rewrote that lead sentence away from "X performs A, B, and C", but just confirm that what I said is accurate. Alyo (chat·edits) 18:07, 11 August 2025 (UTC)- Thank you so much @Alyo! I appreciate you taking the time. I understand what you are saying and have reviewed your edits. They all make sense and have helped me understand what is expected.
- I added one acronym back in (NEMMCO) as this is the much more publicly recognisable name, but otherwise left it as is.
- Thanks again for the review, the edit, and the detailed explanation. Uncountableinfinity (talk) 21:47, 11 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Uncountableinfinity yup, no problem! Let me know if I can help in any other way. Alyo (chat·edits) 00:49, 12 August 2025 (UTC)
Question from Llesiowski (23:42, 13 August 2025)
[edit]Hi Alyo! I'm looking to improve this article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tangaroa_Expedition). I haven't made any large edits before, so I wanted to confirm with you before making them.
I believe this article lacks quality sources and requires some rewriting and expansion. I'm planning on making some minor edits to the lead section and adding the refimprove and sections templates to the top, as well as noting my reasoning on the talk page. Do these sound like good moves?
Also, a linked stub (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guara_(centerboard)) consists of literally two sentences. Is it appropriate to put this up for deletion (and if so, how?) or should I do some additional research to try and expand it? --Llesiowski (talk) 23:42, 13 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Llesiowski, sorry for the delayed response! I certainly agree with you that the article is pretty rough at the moment. I don't know enough about the expedition to know what content the article is missing, but the topic is not structured well and seems like it could use more background on why this trip is notable.
- And don't feel the need to confirm edits--one of our core principles is that you should be bold! It's always helpful to others to explain what you're doing, either on the talk page or in edit summaries, but if you know you can improve an article, do it!
- As for Guara (centerboard), I would think that expansion would be a better option than deletion. Wikipedia does have quite a few "stub" articles, and those aren't inherently wrong. In this case, the sourcing is surprisingly decent/in-depth for the topic. At minimum, before deletion we could add the content about the guara to the relevant parent article, Pre-Columbian rafts and then redirect the former to the latter. But yes, I would try to expand it first. Alyo (chat·edits) 01:26, 20 August 2025 (UTC)
Question from Josphinecardamone (19:26, 14 August 2025)
[edit]Hello, I'm afraid I'm too old and not technology literate to edit Wikipedia. I wanted to do an easy edit but I could not find the way to do it. There is so much information and suggestions, I could not find my way. Is there a simplified page for getting started on an easy article? Thanks --Josphinecardamone (talk) 19:26, 14 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Josphinecardamone, welcome to Wikipedia! Have you looked the new user homepage? It has some simple tasks, but it's also ok if you support Wikipedia in other ways! Just keep reading and telling your friends and family to use Wikipedia. Alyo (chat·edits) 14:29, 19 August 2025 (UTC)
Question from HumbleLion (19:24, 15 August 2025)
[edit]Hi Alyo! I came across some information about how Louisiana is suing Roblox because of its lax child protection rules. I wanted to update Roblox's Wikipedia page to reflect this info, but I don't have the clearance to do so. The page's Talk is also protected, and therefore, I cannot request changes there either. Is there a workaround? HumbleLion (talk) 16:22, 15 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @HumbleLion, because of the topic (and probably because of the age of many Roblox players), the page is protected so that brand new users cannot edit the page. Right now the article is set up so that only users who have been around for 30 days and 500 edits can edit the page, but the talk page should be available to you by now. Can you check again and see if you can edit the talk page? Alyo (chat·edits) 14:24, 19 August 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks @Alyo. Someone else has already updated the page with the new info. HumbleLion (talk) 06:51, 20 August 2025 (UTC)
Question from AviationInsight3 (20:17, 18 August 2025)
[edit]I need to create a basic page for a business that is a client of mine, how can I get started? --AviationInsight3 (talk) 20:17, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @AviationInsight3, Wikipedia is not a business directory, or a place to promote any particular enterprise. Alyo (chat·edits) 14:17, 19 August 2025 (UTC)
- I realize that but we want to add informative, notable and neutral content about a company. I have created the client reference to my account but not sure it is correct and where it should go:
This user, in accordance with the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use, discloses that he has been paid by MarketLift on behalf of MedAire for his contributions to Wikipedia. - AviationInsight3 (talk) 21:21, 21 August 2025 (UTC)
- @AviationInsight3, you can add that to your "userpage" here: User:AviationInsight3. This is where you can place some information about yourself. You also have a user talk page here: User talk:AviationInsight3. That's where other editors will leave you messages. Right now we're on User talk:Alyo, which is my talk page. Question from Ula Kr on User:Ula Kr (00:24, 20 August 2025)
[edit]Hi, i published my page, Declan Shinnick on Wikipedia and when i Google it, I can not find it anywhere. What should i do? --Ula Kr (talk) 00:24, 20 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Ula Kr, you did not publish a page, you added the content to your userpage, which is the place to tell other editors about yourself, as an editor. Alyo (chat·edits) 00:33, 20 August 2025 (UTC)
Hi, I have created this account because I want to ask a question about the page for Wilhelm Blandowski. The article refers to a mining pump developed while he worked as a goldminer in Castlemaine. I have been unable to find any information regarding this pump and none is cited in the article. I am very interested in tracking it down. --ZYZWVU2 (talk) 13:28, 20 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @ZYZWVU2, I found a little bit. That content was added in this edit in 2018, and has never had a source. However, googling "William Blandowski double-action force pump" does pop up with a couple of interesting hits, including this piece and this text dump of volume 14 of The Australian Zoologist. Here is that same volume in an official archive, and I found reference to a force-pump on page 151. Alyo (chat·edits) 13:47, 20 August 2025 (UTC)

Edit warring notice
[edit] You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Atlanta United FC. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users’ edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.
Points to note:
- Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
- Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.
If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article’s talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection.
If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. 2A04:4540:642B:3500:6D99:924E:E396:A4C9 (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A04:4540:640B:1A00:1816:CA64:C44:EF18 (talk) 20:01, 28 August 2025 (UTC)

Question from Thechosenwriter23401 (21:37, 28 August 2025)
[edit]I have been doing a few edits; I would love to get your feedback. --Thechosenwriter23401 (talk) 21:37, 28 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Thechosenwriter23401, welcome to Wikipedia! Joseph Cari Jr. was a significant improvement. Note that someone restored the categories that you removed, and I also moved some sections around so that the timeline made sense. Kenny Habul was also good work. Honestly, the only thing I would say is that unless your edit is likely to be controversial (which Habul almost certainly was not), you don't need to explain all of your editing, as you did at Talk:Kenny Habul. To be clear, it's very helpful and you're welcome to keep doing it, but that's a lot of extra work you're creating for yourself (especially on talk pages like Habul that don't get much action). So far my only comment is to keep it up! Do you have any specific question or concern you'd like to get feedback on? Alyo (chat·edits) 00:33, 29 August 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it. Thechosenwriter23401 (talk) 17:08, 30 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Thechosenwriter23401 addendum: when you leave a detailed edit summary, like you did here for Habul, that can stand in for the note you're leaving on the talk page. So certainly continue to use those edit summaries, because that is by far the easiest way for other editors to see at a glance what you're doing. They're much more like to see that than the talk page note. Alyo (chat·edits) 17:28, 30 August 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it. Thechosenwriter23401 (talk) 17:08, 30 August 2025 (UTC)
Question from Patrick Decklar (19:23, 29 August 2025)
[edit]I lost my article draft, do you know how I may be able to recover it? --Patrick Decklar (talk) 19:23, 29 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Patrick Decklar, the only two pages that you've edited and saved in the software are User:Patrick Decklar/sandbox and User:Patrick Decklar. It doesn't look like there was any draft content saved at either page, so I'm sorry to say that I don't think so. Alyo (chat·edits) 19:26, 29 August 2025 (UTC)
Heya! Mind telling me all of the written commands on how to properly cite external links, make references and other commands that’ll be useful for things like fact checking, ect. --Milqtoasq (talk) 20:12, 29 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Milqtoasq, I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "written commands". We have "templates" like {{cite web}}, which has parameters you can fill in to have a reference be generated for you. It looks like this:
{{cite web |last= |first= |date= |title= |url= |website= |location= |publisher= |access-date=}}
and you can fill in the information after each "=" and it will properly display as a citation. Additionally, there's a little tool that helps you add references, and you can see instructions for it here: Help:Introduction to referencing with VisualEditor/2. Are either of these what you're thinking of? Alyo (chat·edits) 19:24, 1 September 2025 (UTC)- Yes! Thank you- apologies for the wording as when editing on phone it appears sort of like a command script you’d see in coding (/ “ < : =, etc) so i had automatically assumed the terms would be similar. Sorry if it had confused you.
- Thank you kindly! Milqtoasq (talk) 19:46, 1 September 2025 (UTC)
- @Milqtoasq Ahh yes, so the "language" that WP uses is called "wikicode" (along with some HTML), and there's a full list of the markup there. Note that most new accounts use the WP:visual editor on articles, where some of those commands may be hidden. You can also use the WP:source editor, where you see the wikicode in all it's glory--you can change between the two when you click edit, or change the default in your preferences. Let me know if you have any questions there. Alyo (chat·edits) 19:54, 1 September 2025 (UTC)
Hi, i just submitted my first draft for review I’m not sure if you can see it . Please let me know if i left something out . Thank you --Bzns33 (talk) 21:05, 29 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Bzns33, you're talking about Draft:Noma Mokoni, right? Biographies are generally accepted on Wikipedia when the subject has been covered by multiple reliable sources in some detail. The only reference I see that appears to meet that standard is the piece from The Chronicle. The other sources from from less reliable blogs, or else Mokoni's employers. The article needs more sources from reliable newspapers, magazines, etc. Alyo (chat·edits) 19:36, 1 September 2025 (UTC)

Question from Jesmarjosep on Department of Public Works and Highways (13:40, 3 September 2025)
[edit]How do I create a citation --Jesmarjosep (talk) 13:40, 3 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Jesmarjosep the simplest thing to do is put your reference information inside "ref" tags, like this:
Alyo (chat·edits) 14:09, 3 September 2025 (UTC)

Question from LORDZZ (Musical Artist) (03:47, 5 September 2025)
[edit]There's a minor problem that another user has to fix on the template ==Speedy deletion nomination of User:LORDZZ (Musical Artist)==

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on User:LORDZZ (Musical Artist), requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
- It appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, and/or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free Web hosting service. (See section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion.)
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. . --LORDZZ (Musical Artist) (talk) 03:47, 5 September 2025 (UTC)
Question from Wittykitty99 (09:36, 5 September 2025)
[edit]Can you give a citation format example --Wittykitty99 (talk) 09:36, 5 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Wittykitty99 sure, the simplest thing to do is put your reference information inside "ref" tags, like this:
<ref>[REFERENCE CONTENT HERE]</ref>
Place that code at the end of the sentence you want to attach the citation to, and the reference will show exactly what you've typed in. At a very basic level, that's all your need. Now, the second step is that we have templates for citations, like {{cite web}}, which do all the fancy formatting for you. If you copy the template, and fill in the various parameters, you'll get a full citation automatically. So the full (blank) citation would be this:<ref>{{cite web |last= |first= |date= |title= |url= |website= |location= |publisher= |access-date=}}</ref>
If you fill in each parameter with the reference information, you're good to go. However, there's one final step that should make this even easier: there are little tools in the editing interface that will create the reference for you if you enter the information. We have a tutorial page here that explains that process. Let me know what follow-up questions you have. Alyo (chat·edits) 13:48, 5 September 2025 (UTC)
