MatPat Heartbound controversy ?
[edit]I feel like the current controversy section focuses very heavily on the recent events and tends to forget about less recent ones, such as this controversy surrounding popular Youtube personality MatPat's playthrough of Heartbound. A quick lookup on Google Trends shows that searches for the game in January 2019, when this controversy occured, reached an all-time high. 88.183.14.204 (talk) 02:57, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
Re POV and ACCURACY tags
[edit]I've tagged this, since as a Wikipedia article, and particularly as a WP:BLP, this needs to have:
- all of its statements actually supported by its supporting references. Content and associated references needs to be reviewed, with unsupported material either properly cited or removed (WP:BLPREMOVE).
- neutral phrasing (with non-neutral statements used correctly attributed), avoiding any WP:OR/WP:SYNTH/editorialisation.
- reliable independent sources, noting that some biographical material is ultimately derived from statements made by Thor himself (WP:BLPSELFPUB)
The last para of the "Hardcore World of Warcraft incident" section is not properly supported by its source (there's nothing in that that I can see about Thor being kicked from guild), and even it were there's clear OR/editorialising. ~Hydronium~Hydroxide~(Talk)~ 03:58, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- It is well known that he was kicked from the guild. Not even PirateSoftware disputes it 2407:C800:5A31:D60:555D:A672:F87C:271B (talk) 12:19, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- Regardless of how well-known**, it needs to be verifiable (WP:V), and in a controversial article such as this one (and personally, in most cases) it should be verifiable via an inline citation. Such a cite which supports new neutral wording (WP:NPOV) has been added here - a great improvement over what was there before. [**and it really shouldn't be considered as well known in the grand scale of things, when you consider that most wikipedia readers are not clued into Vtuber drama] ~Hydronium~Hydroxide~(Talk)~ 13:12, 24 July 2025 (UTC)
- i know NOT the BEST quality BUT heres a reddit post in r/onlyfangs that shows the discord message from sodapopping about his gkick: Sodapoppin gkicks Piratesoftware from Onlyfangs : r/OnlyFangs 188.174.223.37 (talk) 05:43, 29 July 2025 (UTC)
- Reddit posts can't generally be used under WP:SPS. The exception is basically if it's from a verified account and WP:ABOUTSELF applies. Hypothetically, even if a verified Sodapoppin were to have made a post on reddit, it wouldn't be usable for this matter because it fails ABOUTSELF criterion 2. In this case, it's a screenshot that looks like it's from discord that's been posted on reddit, so even if its usage would otherwise be valid under ABOUTSELF, it couldn't be used as a source. And we now have what looks to be a reliable enough secondary source in the article to back up the claim that Sodapoppin kicked him, so reddit and discord posts are definitely not needed. ~Hydronium~Hydroxide~(Talk)~ 07:27, 29 July 2025 (UTC)

Career section?
[edit]Why dose it say "Hall left the company in February 2016 to work at Amazon Games as an automation engineer." and then later state in the next paragraph "Hall left Amazon Games in September 2016 to work at the Eagle Research Group as a cyber security [...]" what did he come back at Amazon Games 7 months later to leave again? 1timeuse75 (talk) 07:57, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- He joined Amazon Games in Feb 2016, it doesn't say he left it. 197.90.42.49 (talk) 11:41, 25 July 2025 (UTC)
Birthname
[edit]Thor is just a nickname he has given himself. His birth name and legal name is just Jason Hall. 2001:2020:313:B6E6:0:0:3A96:B292 (talk) 12:51, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- This is factually incorrect. His full legal name is Jason Thor Hall. 2600:6C51:403F:EB00:F5A7:1DA5:C781:FCFC (talk) 17:08, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- Interesting... His divorce papers from 2020 are public record, and they state his full name... Jason Hall.
- I suppose he could have legally changed his name since then, but there's definitely a source needed on it being his birthname, or even current legal name. 2001:4649:6691:0:E4C8:C176:4382:C4C3 (talk) 04:36, 24 July 2025 (UTC)
- I assume [REDACTED LINK] is him, although it has him listed as being born in California not Washington 2407:C800:5A31:D60:AC0D:520C:4C7:5ED (talk) 11:09, 24 July 2025 (UTC)
- We can use neither birth certificates nor divorce papers (WP:BLPPRIMARY), and nor can we assume that such documents necessarily belong to an article subject even if it is highly likely (WP:NOR) - we need to use what is reported in reliable sources (WP:RS) except in extremely limited circumstances (WP:BLPSELFPUB, WP:SKYISBLUE, WP:CALC, etc). If definitely reliable sources report him as 'Jason Thor Hall' then use that; if as 'Jason "Thor" Hall' then as that; if there's reasonable doubt, then just "Jason Hall" will do until there's a better set of sources. ~Hydronium~Hydroxide~(Talk)~ 12:55, 24 July 2025 (UTC)
- I've redacted the link, ref (WP:PRIMARY#4) ~Hydronium~Hydroxide~(Talk)~ 13:28, 24 July 2025 (UTC)
- That makes sense.
- His dad is Joey Ray Hall, founding member of Blizzard who worked there from 1991 until 2016.
- Blizzard HQ is in Irvine, California, so his birth certificate stating California checks out. 2001:4649:6691:0:7703:764E:FD0D:117D (talk) 17:13, 24 July 2025 (UTC)

DarkSphere Creations?
[edit]Apparently, Thor used to sell Second Life avatars under this name but I can't seem to find any credible source that would also be neutral. Figured someone else could try. ApertureUA (talk) 09:25, 25 July 2025 (UTC)
Re CSD
[edit]Pppery, I don't believe that this article is likely to be a valid G4 candidate given a significant amount of current content is post 2022 so it's unlikely to be substantially similar to what it was then -- can you confirm? (I also think it's more likely to survive AFD in 2025 as an article in its own right) ~Hydronium~Hydroxide~(Talk)~ 03:13, 29 July 2025 (UTC)
Contested deletion
[edit]This page should not be speedily deleted because I think it contains valid information regarding Pirate Software the Youtuber. Content related to Heartbound although accounts for 10-15% of the total content on the page, it still shouldn't be the reason for the article to get merged with Heartbound --Anhgamat (talk) 06:12, 29 July 2025 (UTC)
- oh the Heartbound article was deleted 1timeuse75 (talk) 10:35, 29 July 2025 (UTC)
"Known For" Ferret Rescue in Lead Section
[edit]@HenriettaGrand: I still do not agree that the existence of a single one source equates to him being known for maintaining a ferret rescue. It is the only source listed (and from a quick seach I cannot find any other of note) that mentions that he owns a ferret rescue. Additionally, the reliability of the Mashable source is dubious as per the current deletion discussion. While I can see how that information is warranted in the body of the article, I'd argue he is NOT known for owning ferrets. Added BSN to avoid WP:WAR and in line with other uses of the source.
