Richard Jonathan Ker (born 1980) is a Malaysian entrepreneur, content strategist, and public speaker. He is the founder of RK Digital, a social media agency based in Cyberjaya, and the North Borneo Historical Society. He is known for producing short-form video content and for his advocacy in heritage preservation in Sabah.

Early life and education

Ker was born in Tawau, Sabah, in 1980. He attended SMK Kuhara Tawau and earned a diploma in Multimedia Technology Engineering from Universiti Putra Malaysia. He later obtained a bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom.

Career

Between 2003 and 2013, Ker lived in Beijing, China, working in the technology and training sectors. After returning to Malaysia, he held positions at the Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre (MaGIC) and Cyberview Sdn Bhd, where he contributed to national innovation and entrepreneurship programs.

In 2022, Ker founded RK Digital, a content strategy and video production agency. The firm has collaborated with companies such as Huawei, Petronas, and Maybank.[1]

Public speaking and media appearances

Ker has delivered talks on topics such as branding, digital storytelling, and entrepreneurship. He has spoken at events including TEDxMMU and TEDxSeremban.[2] He has also participated in forums hosted by Multimedia University and the Securities Industry Development Corporation (SIDC).[3]

Heritage advocacy

Ker is the founder of the North Borneo Historical Society. In 2016, he launched a campaign to preserve the Melalap railway station in Tenom, believed to be Sabah’s first railway station. The campaign led to the site being gazetted as a national heritage site in 2017.[8][9][10]
