PoliceActivity is a YouTube channel that specializes in collecting and uploading body camera footage from US law enforcement agencies and making them publicly available to watch. The channel has over 6 million subscribers.

CanLII considers the channel to be one of the most popular bodycam-orientered channels on YouTube. PoliceActivity describes itself as “your source for daily police related news, pursuits, shootouts, and more”.[2]

History

[edit]

The channel was registered on January 17, 2016 in United States, it has a yearly income of $8.7 million to $196.1 million dollars. Since August 1, 2025, PoliceActivity uploaded 2408 videos and received over 3 billion views. It had over 137 million views in 2017.[3][4] It uploaded its first video on January 20, 2016. The videos that the channel uploads mostly consist of US police officers responding to emergency situations. Reportedly, the intent behind the channel is to educate its viewers about the dangers of working as an on-duty police officer.[5][2] The identity of the channel's owner is unknown, the channel is not affiliated with any police agency.[6]

According to Ojumoola Daniel, the videos are unedited and unfiltered. They either consist of routine police duties such as traffic stops or dangerous encounters with suspects. PoliceActivity shows both positive and concerning police interactions, allowing the viewers to form their own opinions.[7] PoliceActivity, along with Code Blue Cam collect the bodycam footage for their videos by requesting it from various police departments. Per Freedom of Information Act, the police are legally required to release the footage to the channels. Chief of Police Kelly Bakken said that the cost of releasing the footage is big because they need to review and edit out all sensitive information from them.[8]

Videos

[edit]

PoliceActivity writes short descriptions of the incidents in all of it's videos to provide context, they range from two hundred to six hundred words. The paragraphs were mostly copy-pasted from from various local media affiliates of ABC, CBS, and Fox News with minor changes and no credit. An analysis by CanLII showed that each description influenced the discussions of the channel's audience and their interpretations of the incidents.[2]

The examples of the channel's videos include Bodycam Video Shows Knife-Wielding Man Shot by Ohio Policeman, which received 6 million views[2] and Colorado Deputy Shoots Man Who Popped Anti-Anxiety Pill While Picking Up His Brother from School which showed the Killing of Richard Ward.[9] PoliceActivity's most popular video is Woman With Child in Car Rams Multiple People & Police Cars While Trying to Avoid Arrest which was uploaded on July 20, 2022, it has over 40 million views.[6]
