Submission declined on 20 November 2024 by Lemonaka (talk). This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of books). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia. Declined by Lemonaka 7 months ago. | ![]() |

Comment: This journal seems notable enough, but more than half of the sources used in this draft comes from the journal itself, which is not acceptable. Please add more independent and reliable sources. NeoGaze (talk) 20:01, 18 May 2025 (UTC)
Comment: I think the journal clearly meets NJournal, but there's still some work to do. History section, complete list of editors in chief, some better references. Nobody (talk) 09:03, 11 April 2025 (UTC)

Language Learning & Technology (LLT) is a peer-reviewed, open access academic journal of Language Learning, Language Teaching and Language Technology published online by the National Foreign Language Resource Center (NFLRC) at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. The journal is currently sponsored and funded by the NFLRC as well as the Center for Language & Technology (CLT) at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa. Its focus is to provide both foreign and second language educators with research on problems related to technology and language education. LLT’s focus is not strictly restricted to technology but rather has a wide scope that encompasses all issues related to language learning and language teaching and seeks to see how those issues are affected or enhanced by the use of digital technology.[1]
History
[edit]The journal was founded in July 1997 with Mark Warschauer as its founder and first editor, who in January 1998 was joined by Lucinda Hart-Gonzalez as co-editor.[2]
It was created as the first fully online, open-access,[3][1] peer-reviewed journal dedicated to the intersection of learning and technology, with a particular focus on how digital tools and media impact second and foreign language acquisition.[citation needed]
Reception and impact
[edit]LLT is recognized as one of the leading journals in the field of CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning). A 2024 scientometric study by Mohsen et al. identified Language Learning & Technology as one of the most influential journal in the field of computer-assisted language learning, citing its over 18,000 citations, an h-index of 75, and its pioneering role as an online-only, open-access publication since 1997. The study concluded that LLT has played a central role in shaping CALL research over the past four decades.[4]
In 2016, ERIC Digest published an article titled "Leading the Way for Open Access Research", which described Language Learning & Technology (LLT) as an early example of a peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal in the field of language education. The article outlined the journal’s launch in the mid-1990s and noted its role in demonstrating that scholarly standards could be maintained in an online publishing format.[5]
In a 2017 statement, the Computer-Assisted Language Instruction Consortium (CALICO) cited it as one of the “foremost international journals” in the field.[6]
A 2019 editorial in ReCALL noted its influence among educational technology publications.[7]
LLT also consistently ranked in the top quartile (Q1) of linguistics and education journals according to the Scimago Journal Rank.[8] According to the Journal Citation Reports, the journal has a 2023 impact factor of 3.5.[9]

- Promotional tone, editorializing and other words to watch
- Vague, generic, and speculative statements extrapolated from similar subjects
- Essay-like writing
- Hallucinations (plausible-sounding, but false information) and non-existent references
- Close paraphrasing
Please address these issues. The best way to do it is usually to read reliable sources and summarize them, instead of using a large language model. See our help page on large language models.
