Members of IBA include biogas organizations, institutions, companies and individuals and its mission statement is to “propagate biogas in a sustainable way.”
Collaborations and partnerships
[edit]The Indian Biogas Association has entered into a number of national and international collaborations focused on biogas development in India.
- In 2016, IBA signed a collaboration agreement with the German Biogas Association under the BIG-P (Biogas Indo-German Partnership) project.[1][2][3]
- In December 2020, IBA signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Sardar Swaran Singh National Institute of Bioenergy (SSNIBE),[4][5] to work on training, policy research, and plant audits; this agreement was renewed in 2024.[6][7][8]
- In 2024,the association and the Hydrogen Association of India inked a Memorandum of Understanding.[9]
- In 2025, IBA entered into a partnership with Indian Oil Corporation Limited to collaborate on projects related to bioenergy and biohydrogen.[10]
- The association was also granted observer status by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and was listed among the admitted organizations for COP29.[11]
Additional mentions appear in parliamentary records,[12] embassy reports,[13]international collaboration reports[14], government working paper[15] and International Energy Agency publications.[16][17]
Advocacy
[edit]The Indian Biogas Association has participated in policy discussions, media outreach, and sectoral initiatives related to biogas development in India.
- Policy advocacy: The association has sent in suggestions and opinions on how to set prices for compressed biogas, how to give subsidies, and how to help people use biogas in India.[18][19][20][21]
- Media engagement: National news has talked about IBA representatives when talking about things like rural energy, waste-to-energy solutions, and the circular bioeconomy.[22][23][24]
- Sectoral awareness: The organization has been part of talks about funding for MSMEs, incentives at the state level, and problems with infrastructure that make it hard to promote biogas.[25][26][27][28][29]
- Compressed biogas (CBG) pricing reforms: IBA has advocated for fixed procurement pricing to improve market stability for producers.[30][31][32]
- Sustainable Practices: The association has pushed fermented organic manure (FOM) as a way to improve soil health and lessen reliance on artificial fertilizers.[33][34]
