[edit]

I saw your 10,000th edit and wanted to congratulate you on your achievement! If you compare yourself to all contributors (accounts that have made at least one edit), you're now statistically 1 out of every 1000 editors (or the top 0.1% of editors)! While I obviously don't endorse only using edit counts to judge or determine the level of skill, trust, dedication, tenure, experience, etc of other editors, I still think that it's a great accomplishment that you absolutely should be proud of. :-) Congratulations again! Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:12, 3 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Oshwah: Thank you so much! I can't believe I've come all this way since 2023...... ~delta (talkcont) 22:15, 3 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It's a good accomplishment for sure. But hey, assuming that you decide to stick around and become a long-term contributor to the project (which I really hope you do), that number will only get larger and larger as years go by. I'm sure that many others have told you many times about how time in life will go by quickly when you finish school and after your childhood ends, but I hate to say it - it really is true! When I created my Wikipedia account (back in 2007, over 18 years ago now!) and first started editing, I was in High School. I was likely thinking about the assignments I had to get done, graduation, girlfriend stuff, boy oh boy... Well, fast forward to today, I definitely feel like time has gone by very fast since after I graduated college and started living life in the "real world". If you enjoy contributing to Wikipedia, I hope you stick around! Back in High School and when I created this account, I never imagined that I'd be who I am today on this project... not for a single moment. Like some have said around here: If someone like myself can do it, you can definitely do it too. Hit me up if you run into any questions or need any input or advice; you know where to find me... ;-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:06, 4 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism

Seems like you've got some secret admirers... Second time in two days your talk page has been targeted. LuniZunie ツ(talk) 19:36, 15 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@LuniZunie: LTAs gotta LTA I guess. If this continues for a bit more then I might do a request at RfPP but for right now I will just wait and see if there is any more disruption. ~delta (talkcont) 05:29, 16 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from LtMHReqm (20:37, 29 October 2025)

[edit]

Hi! I submitted my first back in June and was declined because I cited incorrectly. I updated it immediately to reflect everything, I believe, the accurate way. However, I haven’t seen any movement on the piece. Is it normal for it to take this long? The original submission was responded to quite quickly… I’m wondering if I’ve done something incorrectly after updating? --LtMHReqm (talk) 20:37, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to the clerk team!

[edit]

Hi ~delta. We have added you to the list of clerks and subscribed you to the mailing list (info: WP:AC/C#clerks-l). Welcome, and I look forward to working with you! To adjust your subscription options for the mailing list, see the link at mail:clerks-l. The mailing list works in the usual way, and the address to which new mailing list threads can be sent is clerks-l@lists.wikimedia.org. Useful reading for new clerks is the procedures page, WP:AC/CP, but you will learn all the basic components of clerking on-the-job.

New clerks begin as a trainee, are listed as such at WP:AC/C#Personnel, and will remain so until they have learned all the aspects of the job. When you've finished training, which usually takes a few months (and a maximum of one year), then we'll propose to the Committee that you be made a full clerk. As a clerk, you'll need to check your e-mail regularly, as the mailing list is where the clerks co-ordinate (a on-wiki clerks' noticeboard also exists but is not used nearly as much). If you've any questions at any point of your traineeship, simply post to the mailing list.

Lastly, it might be useful if you enter your timezone into WP:AC/C#Personnel (in the same format as the other members have), so that we can estimate when we will have clerks available each day; this is, of course, at your discretion. Again, welcome! Regards, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 20:51, 30 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@HouseBlaster: Thanks for the message, and I am looking forward to working with the clerk team! ~delta (talkcont) 22:15, 30 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Guide to temporary accounts

[edit]

Hello, ~delta. This message is being sent to remind you of significant upcoming changes regarding logged-out editing.

Starting 4 November, logged-out editors will no longer have their IP address publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account (TA) associated with their edits. Users with some extended rights like administrators and CheckUsers, as well as users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will still be able to reveal temporary users' IP addresses and all contributions made by temporary accounts from a specific IP address or range.

How do temporary accounts work?

Editing from a temporary account
  • When a logged-out user completes an edit or a logged action for the first time, a cookie will be set in this user's browser and a temporary account tied with this cookie will be automatically created for them. This account's name will follow the pattern: ~2025-12345-67 (a tilde, year of creation, a number split into units of 5).
  • All subsequent actions by the temporary account user will be attributed to this username. The cookie will expire 90 days after its creation. As long as it exists, all edits made from this device will be attributed to this temporary account. It will be the same account even if the IP address changes, unless the user clears their cookies or uses a different device or web browser.
  • A record of the IP address used at the time of each edit will be stored for 90 days after the edit. Users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will be able to see the underlying IP addresses.
  • As a measure against vandalism, there are two limitations on the creation of temporary accounts:
    • There has to be a minimum of 10 minutes between subsequent temporary account creations from the same IP (or /64 range in case of IPv6).
    • There can be a maximum of 6 temporary accounts created from an IP (or /64 range) within a period of 24 hours.

How to enable IP Reveal

Impact for administrators

  • It will be possible to block many abusers by just blocking their temporary accounts. A blocked person won't be able to create new temporary accounts quickly if the admin selects the autoblock option.
  • It will still be possible to block an IP address or IP range.
  • Temporary accounts will not be retroactively applied to contributions made before the deployment. On Special:Contributions, you will be able to see existing IP user contributions, but not new contributions made by temporary accounts on that IP address. Instead, you should use Special:IPContributions for this (see a video about IPContributions in a gallery below).

Rules about IP information disclosure

  • Publicizing an IP address gained through TAIV access is generally not allowed (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 previously edited as 192.0.2.1 or ~2025-12345-67's IP address is 192.0.2.1).
  • Publicly linking a TA to another TA is allowed if "reasonably believed to be necessary". (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 and ~2025-12345-68 are likely the same person, so I am counting their reverts together toward 3RR, but not Hey ~2025-12345-68, you did some good editing as ~2025-12345-67)
  • See Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer § What can and can't be said for more detailed guidelines.

Useful tools for patrollers

  • It is possible to view if a user has opted-in to view temporary account IPs via the User Info card, available in Preferences → Appearance → Advanced options → Tick Enable the user info card
    • This feature also makes it possible for anyone to see the approximate count of temporary accounts active on the same IP address range.
  • Special:IPContributions allows viewing all edits and temporary accounts connected to a specific IP address or IP range.
  • Similarly, Special:GlobalContributions supports global search for a given temporary account's activity.
  • The auto-reveal feature (see video below) allows users with the right permissions to automatically reveal all IP addresses for a limited time window.
