Welcome!

[edit]

Hi Private Letter! I noticed your contributions and wanted to welcome you to the Wikipedia community. I hope you like it here and decide to stay.

I've noticed that you've expressed an interest in the Arab–Israeli conflict. Unfortunately, due to a history of conflict and disruptive editing it has been designated a contentious topic and is subject to some strict rules.

The rule that affects you most as a new or IP editor is the prohibition on making any edit related to the Arab–Israel conflict, which includes discussing articles on talk pages, unless you are logged into an account that is at least 30 days old and has made at least 500 edits.

This prohibition is broadly construed, so it includes edits such as adding the reaction of a public figure concerning the conflict to their article or noting the position of a company or organization as it relates to the conflict.

The exception to this rule is that you may request a specific change to an article on the talk page of that article or at this page. Please ensure that your requested edit complies with our neutral point of view and reliable sourcing policies, and if the edit is about a living person our policies on biographies of living people as well.

Any edits you make contrary to these rules are likely to be reverted, and repeated violations can lead to you being blocked from editing.

Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Additionally, you must be logged in, have 500 edits, and have an account age of 30 days, and you are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on any page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

I guess ill just count to 500 by repeatedly editing my user page to add 1 to the number. Maybe then I'll be allowed to have an opinion. Private Letter (talk) 19:13, 11 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That's gaming the system and if you do so, the permission will be revoked and you would need to ask for it manually.
Wikipedia is not the place to express opinions, that's what social media is for. This is a project to write an encyclopedia. As there are strong feelings on each side of the Arab-Israeli conflict, policies have been put in place by the community and Arbitration Committee to reduce disruption to the project, by ensuring that editors have a record of experience before contributing to the topic area. "Anyone can edit" does not mean "anyone can make any edit without restriction or limitation". 331dot (talk) 19:16, 11 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
"Wikipedia is not the place to express opinions"... I was on a talk page where people were giving their opinions on changing the title of an article. I wasn't editing the Toilet paper orientation article to tell people the correct way is to ingest the toilet paper so the poop wipes itself on the way out. If you don't want opinions, don't give people a comment section where every comment is prefaced by an indication of weather you agree or disagree with the change. Private Letter (talk) 19:29, 11 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I thought you meant general opinions about a topic. You may give your opinion as to the merits of a particular change to an article- as long as it isn't the Arab-Israeli conflict(until you have 500 substantive edits). 331dot (talk) 19:34, 11 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Well then, IN MY OPINION, the moderation on this website is fucking garbage and you fucking suck at your job. Private Letter (talk) 20:06, 11 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This edit is not allowed until you meet the criteria. 331dot (talk) 19:36, 11 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Private Letter, this isn’t allowed either FortunateSons (talk) 19:52, 11 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
What, facts? Private Letter (talk) 19:59, 11 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That wasn't even an opinion. Private Letter (talk) 19:59, 11 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

To enforce an arbitration decision, you have been blocked from editing Wikipedia for a period of 31 hours. You are welcome to edit once the block expires; however, please note that the repetition of similar behavior may result in a longer block or other sanctions.

If you believe this block is unjustified, please read the guide to appealing blocks (specifically this section) before appealing. Place the following on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Please copy my appeal to the [[WP:AE|arbitration enforcement noticeboard]] or [[WP:AN|administrators' noticeboard]]. Your reason here OR place the reason below this template. ~~~~}}. If you intend to appeal on the arbitration enforcement noticeboard, I suggest you use the arbitration enforcement appeals template on your talk page so it can be copied over easily. You may also appeal directly to me (by email), before or instead of appealing on your talk page.

Reminder to administrators: In May 2014, ArbCom adopted the following procedure instructing administrators regarding Arbitration Enforcement blocks: "No administrator may modify a sanction placed by another administrator without: (1) the explicit prior affirmative consent of the enforcing administrator; or (2) prior affirmative agreement for the modification at (a) AE or (b) AN or (c) ARCA (see "Important notes"). Administrators modifying sanctions out of process may at the discretion of the committee be desysopped."

You had a clear warning about the restrictions, and our discussion above- you then went ahead and made your two recent comments. As such I have imposed this block. 331dot (talk) 19:54, 11 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, two factual comments devoid of any opinion. What the fuck kinda circus is this community? Private Letter (talk) 20:03, 11 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You are not permitted to edit any page on Wikipedia related to the Arab-Israeli conflict, broadly construed, until you have 500 substantive edits and your account is 30 days old. It doesn't matter what the edit is. You can curse this all you want- but that's the way it is. I will remove the block if you commit to abiding by the restrictions described above(which include not gaming the system to obtain 500 edits). 331dot (talk) 20:12, 11 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that comment section was the whole reason why I created my account in the first place. So go fuck yourself, and i will see your dumbass in a month. Private Letter (talk) 20:18, 11 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Also know that personal attacks are not permitted. Personal attacks are part of the reason for the contentious topic restrictions- the topic area draws a lot of such activity. If you cannot be civil, that's not the topic area for you, even once you can edit it. 331dot (talk) 20:16, 11 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Half of the one who can and have commented are genuinely a bunch of braindead morons being blatantly wrong. These fuckers are trying to change the definition of Genocide to fit their arguments. Just know that if you do rename the page to include the word genocide, I'll gather up my boys and turn that page into the single most vandalized article in the history of this site. You're the one supposed to prevent this kind of misinformation from tainting the number 1 website people visit to research those kinds of topics. If you can't be fucked to do your job properly then just log off the site and get a new hobby where being stupid won't be an issue for you. Private Letter (talk) 20:28, 11 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I've now made the block indefinite due to your continued attacks and incivility. You are demonstrating why the restrictions exist. 331dot (talk) 20:22, 11 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't even started my guy. Revert it back to a month and I'll stop. Keep it permanent and im changing my IP adress and im back in 30 min. Private Letter (talk) 20:32, 11 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Your continued incivility has led me to remove your access to this page. When you're ready to have a civil discussion, let us know via WP:UTRS. If you choose to evade your block instead, that's up to you. 331dot (talk) 20:33, 11 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
