COI Requests

[edit]

Hi, Pac Veten and welcome to Wikipedia. I do realize that everyone is welcome to edit Wikipedia but it is not common for someone newish on Wikipedia to answer COI edit requests. I am assuming that the advocating at Talk:Informa is likely due to inexperience with guidelines surrounding companies but we maintain a pretty high standard for inclusion of information on company pages. With all this in mind, I am hoping you can tell me more about your interest with COI. CNMall41 (talk) 18:10, 22 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi CNMall41. My participation was requested for this discussion. If you review the contents of this talk page, the particulars are presumably available.
Is there an aspect of the corporation's proposal that you think deserves additional attention? If so, I assume that article's quality would be enhanced by your new scrutiny. Pac Veten (talk) 21:09, 22 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
For "this discussion," yes. Your original involvement began in June and you were not pinged. What brought you to the Informa page originally? --CNMall41 (talk) 06:57, 23 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Please have a look at the talk page for the Informa article. My feedback was requested on June 2.
For discussion related to a specific article, I suggest using that article's talk page. Pac Veten (talk) 13:07, 23 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No, there was a COI request on June 2 but I do not see where your feedback was requested. The COI request was declined by another user on June 10th for being promotional. You were pinged on June 11 by the editor with a COI as they stated you were active on the page, although there were other active editors (including myself) who were not pinged so it is strange that you would be targeted. Not an accusation, but seems out of the ordinary. As far as the talk page, I am here about conduct, not content. Your edits give the impression that you may have a COI and prior to bringing to WP:COIN, I am hoping you can clarify why you are advocating for the inclusion of advertorial material that had previously been declined as well as new requests which have been declined as advertorial. I may be missing something which is why I am here asking. If you would prefer that I file this directly with COIN I will do so but it is a requirement to discuss with you first. --CNMall41 (talk) 22:17, 23 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Correct about the date when I was contacted—11 June 2025. For any background on that contact, the best source of information would be the person who reached out to me.
In approaching the discussion around the article on Informa, I have tried to bring a real-world editor's perspective—striving at all times for clarity, consistency, and completeness. In case it helps with administration, I am not a current or former employee of Informa or one of its competitors.
As a member of Wikipedia's Guild of Copy Editors (GOCE), my initial hope was to improve the quality of this piece on Informa. Hopefully I have helped in some way with that. But since it looks like my input is no longer needed, I'll be glad to step back now. Most concretely, I can stop following the article's talk page. Since I have no official role in this COI process, that step should be sufficient to let the process reach its natural conclusion organically.
At any time in the future, if the community would like traditional copyediting work to be done on this article, please feel welcome to contact the GOCE or myself directly. Pac Veten (talk) 02:00, 24 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Please do not take this as me asking you to "step back." The reason I am here is for clarification and hopefully you can understand why based on what I presented. It was strange that you came across the page to just change a logo. Then, were pinged by a COI editor. Then, continued to advocate for promotional content. Again, not accusing you of having a COI, but it gives the impression. As far as stepping back, I would advise the opposite. I encourage you to continue editing any topic you see fit. However, I would also recommend taking the advice of other editors, including the other two experienced editors who were commenting in the discussion along with myself. I realize that Wikipedia has a large learning curve as I am still learning myself. --CNMall41 (talk) 03:19, 24 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
