Administrators' newsletter – December 2025
[edit]News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2025).

- Starting on November 4, the IP addresses of logged-out editors are no longer being publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account associated with their edits.
- Administrators will now find that Special:MergeHistory is now significantly more flexible about what it can merge. It can now merge sections taken from the middle of the history of the source (rather than only the start) and insert revisions anywhere in the history of the destination page (rather than only the start). T382958
- The December 2025 administrator elections are scheduled from Nov 25 – Dec 15.
- An Articles for Creation backlog drive is happening in December 2025, with over 1,000 drafts awaiting review from the past two months. In addition to AfC participants, all administrators and new page patrollers can help review using the Yet Another AFC Helper Script, which can be enabled in the Gadgets settings. Sign up here to participate!
GOCE coordinator elections for 2026
[edit]Hello. I hope that it's just an oversight that you haven't nominated yourself yet. You certainly will be missed if your intent is not to run. Dhtwiki (talk) 07:46, 14 December 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for the poke, Dhtwiki. We need new blood who will actually do things, so I was dragging my feet. If by chance I missed the deadline (I won't :-), it wouldn't have affected what I do with the GOCE; Jonesey95 and Baffle gab1978 are good influences. Thanks for offering to stay on as lead coordinator. Happy holidays and all the best, Miniapolis 18:00, 14 December 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah, I prefer being a mostly silent partner. I copy edit more than I record on the drive and blitz sheets. I'm in it for fixing things rather than getting the barnstars after all of these years. I do record at least one article to keep my streak going, though. Thirteen years next month, inshallah. – Jonesey95 (talk) 18:24, 14 December 2025 (UTC)
- We should always have someone on call who can run the drive-scoring script, which I cannot at this point and the newer coordinators might need time to be brought up to speed, as doing it by hand for ~40 entries out of the ~65 who sign up is onerous although doable. Minneapolis has been the go-to for this, which is one reason their participation is important, as well as their wealth of experience. Dhtwiki (talk) 05:56, 15 December 2025 (UTC)
- Running the drive script isn't difficult; if I can do it, anyone can :-). Jonesey's instructions (and Torchiest, who wrote the script) are invaluable. If you don't have them, I can email. All the best, Miniapolis 14:45, 15 December 2025 (UTC)
- I have the script, and it's there for anyone else who wants it, thus saving the trouble of emailing. The problem is getting it to run on my computer, an Apple iMac, or rewriting it in a language that will run on my machine. Otherwise, I have had some luck with regular expressions and parser functions to add up some of the more complicated entries, e.g. those with dozens of articles where only a subset are flagged as old or requests.
