Removal image requests

[edit]

Hi, I noticed you removed numerous image requests. I noticed this for a couple of pages on my watchlist and the requests there seem reasonable to me. Please explain your reason of removals. --Altenmann >talk 18:52, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Altenmann: Thanks for allowing me to explain myself. Per Template:Image requested, the image requested template is "not a general-purpose "no image present" indicator ... Editors placing this template on a talk page should provide information about what images or photographs are wanted". Apparently in 2014, a user added these requests to around 50,000 talk pages, to the talk pages of (apparently) every single Iranian village article that lacked an image (see this category as an example). So, while some of these requests can be viewed as valid (we don't always explain our reasons for adding the imagereq template to talk pages), your average user at least doesn't add them to thousands upon thousands of talk pages en masse using the same edit summary, disregarding the usage guidelines in the process. The massive number of image requests dilutes the template's importance (it isn't intended to be added en masse), and also goes against the usage guideline. Also according to those guidelines, Template:Improve images should be added instead as a ""no image present" indicator". Nythar (πŸ’¬-πŸ€) 22:53, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a request for comment, a new speedy deletion criterion, G15, has been enacted. It applies to pages generated by a large language model (LLM) without human review.
  • Following a request for comment, there is a new policy outlining the granting of permissions to view the IP addresses of temporary accounts. Temporary account deployment on the English Wikipedia is currently scheduled for September 2025, and editors can request access to the permission ahead of time. Admins are encouraged to keep an eye on the request page; there will likely be a flood of editors requesting the permission when they realize they can no longer see IP addresses.

Question from Blackgirlmighty (17:33, 9 August 2025)

[edit]

Hello..I'm having issues with knowing how to move my articles in sandbox to drafts..to create a space for other articles i want to create on sandbox for review...or can i just create them as draft on article wizard..? I am not that bad for a beginner --Blackgirlmighty (talk) 17:33, 9 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Blackgirlmighty: You can submit your drafts for review directly from your sandbox; just paste this template at the very top of the page: {{AfC submission}}. If you want to free up your sandbox to use it for other drafts, simply move your current sandbox from User:Blackgirlmighty/sandbox to User:Blackgirlmighty/Koleka_Mlisana and then recreate your sandbox as a new page. Regards, Nythar (πŸ’¬-πŸ€) 22:07, 9 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Appreciated Blackgirlmighty (talk) 22:24, 9 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure if i did the right thing..kindly check i dont want to be blocked Blackgirlmighty (talk) 23:02, 9 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Blackgirlmighty: You moved the draft to User:Blackgirlmighty/Koleka Mlisana, so that's good. Of course when you move a page, a redirect is created at the page with the old title, so I've gone ahead and cleared your sandbox. Now you can add the {{AfC submission}} template to submit your draft for review. Nythar (πŸ’¬-πŸ€) 23:06, 9 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I am adding the template to the moved article right Blackgirlmighty (talk) 23:09, 9 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the one you want to be published. Nythar (πŸ’¬-πŸ€) 23:11, 9 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It is giving me troubles..when I add the template a whole lot of information comes out..and when i click on it..the whole template highlights Blackgirlmighty (talk) 23:15, 9 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It's supposed to show up as a large rectangle filled with information for the person submitting the article. You have to paste the template at the top and save the page if you want your draft to be added to a category of articles for review. Let me know if you need help with that. Nythar (πŸ’¬-πŸ€) 23:19, 9 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes it does come out with a lot of information..so i dont write anything in the template i just paste and save Blackgirlmighty (talk) 23:32, 9 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Correct. Nythar (πŸ’¬-πŸ€) 23:33, 9 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Ohh i get it now..thank you very much Blackgirlmighty (talk) 23:37, 9 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Lthomp99 (13:33, 13 August 2025)

[edit]

hey Nythar, I'd like to add https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ifm_group to the disambiguation page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IFM. Instinctively I though to add it under the 'Organisations' heading, but checking the German disambiguation page https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/IFM it's listed under 'ifm' in all lower case, separate from 'IFM' in all caps. Is this just a quirk of German Wikipedia or should I replicate it for the English disambiguation page? --Lthomp99 (talk) 13:33, 13 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Lthomp99:, it seems the main (English) article is located at ifm group, all lower. I don't see any reason you can't add it to IFM, and use all lowers in your link. As for the German disambig page and the separate section for caps vs. non-caps (IFM/ifm), that would be a question for the Wikipedians there. - Adolphus79 (talk) 16:42, 13 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I've added ifm group to the disambiguation page now, thanks for the clarification! Lthomp99 (talk) 18:30, 13 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
