A barnstar for you!

[edit]
The Barnstar of Diligence
For diligent investigation into the history of the Theban alphabet, culminating in your discovery (at the Library of Congress!) of a black-and-red chart of that alphabet from the earliest known source, the 1518 Polygraphia, and following its changes through subsequent published versions. This helps the first-mentioned article tremendously. – Raven  .talk 11:42, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

RFC on the underlying definition of alphabet at WP:NCWS

There is now an RFC on the WP:NCWS alphabet definition topic. – Raven  .talk 05:04, 8 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Revision notice: I had that link go to WP; it is now corrected to WT. – Raven  .talk 17:25, 8 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The things I come across while working for you...

There's an old coarse joke about Star Trek, that the starship Enterprise wipes out Klingons around... well, you've heard it. Now take a close look at this pic of the planetary symbol of Uranus: How did those ancient symbol-makers know? – .Raven  .talk 07:31, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@.Raven: LOL, that's amazing. It's also interesting that that graphic is currently in use on exactly 2 articles: Planets in astrology and Kazakhstan Tennis Federation! Nosferattus (talk) 16:22, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

BTW...

[edit]

kwami first *templated* me on my talkpage – for editing an article with an ongoing page move request  (is that even a rule?) – then (when I responded on his talkpage) reported me to WP:ANI for "harassment", quotha. I finish responding to that, check my watchlist, and oh joy, he's reverted my edit on N'Ko script, thus deleting an RS citation, with the comment: "rv: this is an ongoing discussion -- wait for the result". But the "ongoing discussion" was the page move request, which doesn't affect the article text at all. – .Raven  .talk 18:00, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Nosferattus: I just started the talkpage with two overall templates, four subtemplates. Would you please look that over to see whether I did it right, and whether you like the choices I made? I very much hope you will change it to your liking, especially since you started the page! – .Raven  .talk 22:54, 16 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi When you replace a high quality image that has been in the infobox for several years, it is not a good practice to just delete it. The image you removed is of much higher quality and, here, shows the head much better than your image, so you should have moved it to somewhere else in the article. I actually think mine is more encyclopaedic and better for the info box, but I am not going to edit war. Charlesjsharp (talk) 15:05, 11 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Charlesjsharp: My apologies! I've restored your image to the infobox of the article. Nosferattus (talk) 23:41, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

RM at the article you started

Without intending to WP:CANVASS, I think it's fair to advise you of the RM at Talk:Magical alphabet. – .Raven  .talk 19:11, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Heliconius charithonia

Heliconius charithonia, commonly known as the zebra longwing or zebra heliconian, is a species of butterfly belonging to the family Nymphalidae. It is distributed across South and Central America and the U.S. states of Texas and Florida, with some migrations further north in the warmer months. Adult butterflies are monomorphic of medium size with long wings. On the dorsal side, the wings are black with narrow white and yellow stripes, with a similar pattern on the ventral side, but paler and with red spots. The wingspan ranges from 72 to 100 mm (2.8 to 3.9 in). The caterpillars are white with black spots and have numerous black spikes along their body. Adults roost in groups of up to 60 individuals on a nightly basis, returning to the same roost every night. These roosts provide protection to adults, the large groups deterring predators and retaining warmth. This H. charithonia butterfly was photographed in Hendry County, Florida.

GMOs and pesticides

Like the notification says in the second to last sentence, this is primarily to let you know this is a controversial topic you're stepping into. It's complicated and there are a lot of logistics you seem to be bumping up against as a new editor in the topic, so that's largely why I'm posting the template.
With that said, I am also concerned about your trajectory of behavior. You came into the article frequently citing very poor sources from either the organic industry (USRTK) or lawyers involved in litigation, and the problems with that should have been apparent based on the other comments you were making about being concerned about industry influence. You were pulling from some very charged non-independent sources. You came in very strong with those points of view and are butting heads with editors like myself trying to handle things even-handedly. It really gets to be problematic when you make personal comments like You are really bending over backwards here to defend an indefensible paper. and while I'm not going to say it definitively crosses the threshold of WP:ASPERSIONS related to companies (with guidance specifically for this topic), that really is a poisoning the well issue on a talk page that shouldn't happen, especially when you use misleading rhetoric saying I'm defending the paper. That just becomes WP:BATTLEGROUND rhetoric. I have already explained myself plenty that you should have known my perspective rather than resorting to that language. Wikipedia is not a place for enemies or to portray people as "defenders" when you don't agree with them. I'm far from a defender of the paper, and being the person asking you to pump the brakes a bit when it comes to assumptions in the content does not make one it either.
My advice is to slow down and watch for the editors working for neutrality and handling complicated subjects with care instead of pushing hard. The latter only makes it harder to navigate an already complicated subject or inflame it, and coming in hard like that only makes it appear that those giving you caution are doing the same. There have been many discussions on this topic in the past, and the section you opened recently has been the most charged in awhile, so that's why I'm concerned where your comments have been going. KoA (talk) 21:12, 7 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to the world of GMO / Monsanto editing

[edit]

I noticed you asked repeatedly for a single standard for judging sources. Seems reasonable, right? I think so too. Are you at all familiar with the GMO arbcom? There--10 years ago--I talked about my experience with what I believed to be double-standards with sourcing with some of the same editors who oppose your edits. It might help you understand the challenges you are having now.

You can talk in circles until there is a wall of text and find little progress. I have seen a few editors keep talking, get frustrated and say the wrong thing, then find themselves topic-banned or indeffed. I was topic-banned.

In my experience, when it feels like non-involved editors would see the problem, a simple neutrally-worded WP:RfC will end the log-jam. IMHO it is the best way to get fresh eyes on a problem like that you are experiencing. I have thought about weighing in there, but I'm not sure it would do much without the eyes of non-involved editors. --David Tornheim (talk) 19:35, 13 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
