Stale
[edit]Hi! I have no clue how the procedure works, and I am sure checkusers are very busy, but I worry that closing the SPI without blocking the socks because the IPs are now stale would make it very easy for them to continue socking. If their previous IPs get blocked and a new one shows up it is easier to get them blocked for blockevasion. Am I making sense? What would you recommend? Polygnotus (talk) 20:29, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
- Polygnotus: Dynamic IPs just change frequently. Their IP will just change over time. They don't own them forever. There's usually no point in blocking old inactive IPs. SPI is not always the fastest way to deal with ongoing disruption. WP:RFPP and other noticeboards might be better to deal with that. MarioGom (talk) 20:35, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
- Is there a way to see how often an IP allocation changes per ISP/IP range? Polygnotus (talk) 20:36, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
- Polygnotus: There's no standard way to do that. Some people, especially checkusers, might be familiar with allocation patterns of some popular ISPs, but that's it. Sometimes you can guess based on edit histories. MarioGom (talk) 20:38, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you. I read that Signpost article and it seemed like a reasonable, but apparently very unpopular, idea. Polygnotus (talk) 20:57, 31 March 2025 (UTC)

UPE banned editor?
[edit][1] would you mind stating or emailing me the information to confirm this is a banned editor and who the master is? I watch a bunch of related pages and want to know what to watch out for. (t · c) buidhe 01:58, 22 April 2025 (UTC)
- buidhe: I track all of their edits both from accounts and IPs at m:Wikiproject:Antispam/Qatar tracker. There's multiple masters because it is a single actor contracting multiple freelancers. The most active right now is Bennet43. I'll send you an email with details on how to detect them. MarioGom (talk) 16:16, 22 April 2025 (UTC)
- Buidhe: I sent you an email with all the WP:BEANSy details. By the way, some of their edits may be ok. I'm ok with other users reinstating them, just keep in mind that in the past many were blatant copyvio, or failed verification, had due weight issues or added duplicate info, etc. As long as an editor in good standing takes responsibility for checking these aspects, I think reinstating any of these edits is fine. MarioGom (talk) 19:07, 22 April 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks so much! Now I know what to watch out for. (t · c) buidhe 04:50, 23 April 2025 (UTC)

Heads up
[edit]That I posted this here. It does not address anything related to AfDs, but I asked them about their use of AI, so thought you might be interested to follow. I also asked them here about WP:BEFORE, though I'm not confident they will reply given the lack of replies in the past. I'm also quite concerned about this edit WRT the potential use of AI, but will take it one step at a time. i know you're a dog 04:29, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for May 11
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Xamarin, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Android. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
